Merrell Men's Moab 2 GTX Walking Shoe
Merrell Men's Moab 2 GTX Walking Shoe
Shoe sizes are not standardized. Every shoe manufacturer uses different measurements in terms of instep height, toe shape and foot width. However, the basis for your own shoe size is always the length of your feet. Thus, you should always determine your foot length before buying in order to choose the right shoe.

These are great I wear inserts and normally get one size bigger but I didn’t need to the grip is excellent and I wore them in 30 heat on holiday and my feet didn’t overhea
hese are my second pair of water proof walking shoes, the latter pair being Adidas terrex which cost more than these, i have to say the Merrell are so much more comfortable and last much longer than the adidas. the sole is really hard and grippy. they are waterproof and i have had now for around 6 months and are still waterproof.
Well made product. Arrived in time. Comfy to wear and the right size.
Great fit very comfortable good price for a Quality shoe
Another great runner from Merrell. Lovely fit. Haven’t tested then in the wet yet.
These were a replacement for another pair of Merrell trainers my partner had worn out. He wears them everywhere. True to size and very comfortable, so he tells me. Great shoe
Have had 7 Moab GTX and 5 non GTX for the last 13 years, these are waterproof unless it comes over the ankle. Main difference with these is the tongue is stitched in, whereas other Moab GTX have had the tongue loose where water once on to the tongue filters in.
Other difference with these Vibram soles they are much harder and a different pattern. 4 weeks on, perhaps done 30 miles they do feel hard and quite loud on tarmac etc like a work boot clunking away. Feet were raw after a 7 mile walk, had to wear other shoes for a few days. Heard GTX 3 are even harder soles.
Did Yorkshire 3 peaks in these, rained for half of it, dry feet no blisters
Always been a big fan of Merrell trainers, every pair I’ve had have worn out rather than failed, so you’re guaranteed plenty of years of use. Comfy, well made recommend from someone who’s had them since 2007.
The shoe is comfy, as you would expect when spending a sizable chunk of change. I have now had my pair for 3 months and I wear them all day long – for work and walking my dog.
These shoes are waterproof to their depth, in other words, don’t be expecting these to keep your feet dry when walking in tall wet grass. For working outside, puddles and standing water are no problem.
I would certainly recommend these for keeping your feet dry in normal everyday conditions
History of problems with ankle, tried various types of trainers and walking boots but this particular walking shoe does the business for me. Comfort and durability, couldn’t ask for more.
Bought these to wear when walking the coast path in decent weather instead of boots. They are great. Had a problem with sizing, I’m a 9 shoe and usually order 9.5 walking boots, when they came they were too small so I ordered a 10 and they are perfect – Amazon exchanged and redelivered within 24 hours! excellent service.
Bought these for walking the dog so wanted something lightweight, waterproof and comfortable.
For me these run small, I’m a 10 and a 10.5 fits perfect (with normal socks).
I think the underfoot cushioning could be improved, feels good until you walk on the pavement then it feels a bit hard. I’ve replaced the inner soles with better cushioning ones.
They seemed to grip well on wet surfaces but have not come down a mountain side with wet rock underfoot.
Waterproofing wise they coped walking through small streams on the beach but obviously would need more exposure to comment on their true effectiveness.
I could have given them 3 stars but with even with their short comings i actually like them (and they look good) so 4 stars it is.
I was always a sketchers guy but read they wasnt very good for the feet so decided to take a punt on these and with them being goretex, they are breathable and wateroroof too!
They are, as they say, comfy right out of the box and theyre now my go to shoe for going around the stabes, fields, taking the dogs out, etc… I like the way the inside is shaped to support the foot.
I havent tested the waterproofness but its goretex. No worries there. They stand on their warranty, literally! 😀
I like the shoes, good quality, nice looking but I think I should have gone a half size up
MOAB or mother of all boots?
Not really. These are shoes, not boots.
So they are waterproof. I walk through mud, puddles and in rain and they keep my feet dry. But water can ingress over the tops and waterproof is not 100% watertight.
They are breathable, supple and very comfortable and I use my shoes for all but the harshest or muddiest conditions here in the temperate Surrey Hills of southern England.
You should order a 1/2 size up on your usual size. That’s my experience and I’m on my 4th pair now.
They are not perfect. My previous pair only lasted 2 years before perished leather on the sides started to perish (and allow water ingress). I cover at least 3 or 4 miles daily dog walking as well as much longer walks from time to time. Previously I was more of a weekend walker and they lasted 3-5 years
The soles, though generally grippy, can be slippy on certain surfaces, so if you’re scrambling on smooth rock – or walking to work on smooth paving with many manholes in wet weather – perhaps research alternatives?
A great boot for the keen, amateur walker and surprisingly inexpensive for the quality.
My second pair of these, both have been on the small size for the stated size, depending on the thickness of your socks get at least half a size larger. They have a relatively narrow fit but Merrell do a wide fit as well. The shoes are well constructed, my last pair took some serious pounding and clocked up the miles and are still wearable after three years. They give good support for a shoe, as opposed to a boot and my last pair were as waterproof as you can hope for from a shoe, nothing keeps your feet dry in long wet grass except wellies. Good construction has a slight downside in that they are not the lightest shoe going, you want light buy some trainers.
I purchased these having not tried Merrell before but had heard good things from friends who have had them and urgently needed to replace an old pair of Northface shoes that should have been replaced ages ago but I’m always reluctant to get rid of shoes I find really comfortable and therefore wear them until they nearly fall apart. I bought the size that I’ve always purchased in pretty much every other make I’ve had (NorthFace, Berghaus, Salomon etc) but on trying them on found immediately they were just on the small size and not something I could live with so ordered the next half size up and requested a return for the ones that didn’t fit.
Since the next size arrived I’ve worn them nearly every day and used them on a week away and haven’t had any issues with them, in fact they felt like a pair of shoes I’d been wearing for a lot longer and didn’t require any wearing in. I tend to be very picky with shoes and often have problems with heel blisters when I get new ones.
The only issue I did find, but more of an annoyance rather than an issue was a slight noise they make when walking, almost like a slight “crumpling paper” noise. This appears to come from the insole but I tend to swap these out so I’m not that concerned. Overall I’m really happy with this purchase and may well consider getting another pair in another colour.
I’ve been buying and wearing some variant of the Merrell Men’s Moab 2 Gtx Low Rise Hiking Shoes for over ten years. This latest pair is in the black colourway and the two pairs before that were “beluga grey”. I’ve also had a couple of pairs in a “sand/beige” colour too.
I typically wear them every day, for both work and leisure. Routine use is 12+ hours of walking and standing indoors 3-4 days a week, but I have used them to hike up mountains and walk over 15 miles on rough mixed terrain. Typically I get 2-3 years use out of each pair before replacing them – at that point they’re usually not completely done for but are showing some sign of wear. Usually the shoe itself is structurally sound but the insoles have worn through and one or more layer of the paracord laces have sheared through and stripped off.
Aside from the fact that I personally like the aesthetic of them their key feature is they are extraordinarily comfortable. From the first minute you put them on I find there’s no breaking-in period at all. they’re just good-to-go. I rate comfort as 5/5 from the beginning to the end of the shoe’s life.
The shoe is relatively waterproof – I find heavy rainfall is no issue at all but if you have the misfortune to stand in a very deep puddle you WILL get water ingress. Shallow puddles tend not to be a problem. Water resistance 4/5.
They’re not the lightest shoes, I’ve got some Skechers that are lighter but I don’t find the weight a problem. I’ve rated them 4/5 because there are definitely lighter shoes available but the weight isn’t really a factor for me because of the extreme comfort.
You could consider laces and insoles to be a semi-consumable product if a shoe can have a long life. Historically I’ve never been able to replace the laces or insoles with original Merrell versions but I find that Amazon UK now sell official Merrell laces and insoles so for the first time I’ve been able to replace my damaged laces. This shoe in “black”, in an UK size 10 comes with “Pinpoint Black” laces that are 132 cm long. Laces cost just under 7 to replace. Insoles are just under 33.
This is my second pair of these first pair still going strong I’ve had other makes before but these type of merrells are good Very happy hope these last as long also very comfortable
i take a size 9…after reading the reviews about the small fitting i ordered a size 10..if i had gone half a size up i think they would have been too tight..although they may have worn in…..without a sock they slip up at the back…with a sock, absolutely perfect..and comfortable…like slightly walking on air………..dont take any notice with tracking delivery..these arrived 2 days earlier..but not complaining
This is my secon pair, and they are grand, a good outdoor show. Word of warning on sizing, they tend to be small fitting. I Normally wear UK size 8 but needed an 8.5.
These are the second pair of merrell intercept walking shoes I’ve had, the previous ones are still in one piece but after 5 years are showing their age, I’m glad to see the quality hasn’t changed, still excellent. As per previous feedback buy a size to half a size bigger than you would normally wear. I normally take a size 10 and the 10.5s are a perfect fit.
Great quality (not tested in anger yet), very comfy from the off. Prior to buying these i read some reviews and many said the sizing was a little small so buy a bigger size than you normally would. VERY true and Im so glad i took notice or i would have been sending these back. They are brill but you will probably need to buy a full size bigger.
My son is a postman and his shoes are very important to him and getting ones that fit well are hard to get, when we looked on the Amazon web site and saw these I sent for them straght away.
They were so comfortable I sent for another pair within 24 hours .
He would buy these Merrell men’s inctercept trainers again.
