I thought the keys would feel cheap or not nice to type with before purchasing but this not the case.
The only negative is that it is not good for gaming, but as it is not advertised as such, this is irrelevant. Still a great product!
Working at home more over the past couple of years has made it more important to have an ergonomically correct setup. I found this keyboard and mouse combination to be really comfortable.
Keyboard took a little time to get used to as it appeared that I had been using the wrong hand for some keys whilst touch typing, but now flying along!
I use my computer mostly for writing and was looking for a keyboard that didn’t require me to hunch my shoulders. this is perfect. it was a bit weird at first but once I got used to it, it’s much better than my old standard keyboard. I also like that it has padding which gives great wrist support.
I’ve seen a lot of reviews comparing this to the ergonomic 4000, which I also used for years. So I’ve written my review in the same way. I’ve only had this one for a day, I bought it because I have a new job which will require me to be typing all day for 8 hours straight. I really like this better than the 4000 already.
1: I find it a lot more responsive.
2: I like the additional padding, which isn’t broken up with buttons as it is on the front of the 4000. I never did figure out what those buttons did.
3: I read one reviewer who said they felt a bit “short changed” by the fact we only get 3 favourite keys here, compared to 5 on the 4000. there is a work around, you can format the media keys to favourites if you don’t use them, that’s what I did.
4: The keys are quieter and also more responsive on this one.
5: I like the office key, though I can’t see the point of the Emoji one. I mean I know people use emojis a lot, but that just seems a bit silly to me.
All in all, I like this keyboard a lot better than the 4000, I don’t use the mouse as I’m blind so can’t, but am looking forward to using it in my new job working from home, plus it’s mine so I don’t have to give it back at any point!
Bonus: I got it as a Black Friday deal with 28 off, so can’t complain about that either!
I don’t know why the info says about batteries though, because unless I’m missing something, no batteries are required. It’s also lighter than the 4000 which is nice. Overall happy with my purchase.
The emoji key is pretty useless at this point and in a silly place. It should be tucked away on the top row somewhere, a right waste of prime space where it is.
The application key is now on the left in between CTRL and WinKey, which is again silly. It makes some of the keyboard shortcuts using the Win Key a bit more challenging to reach, though not a big deal for most folks. It cannot be remapped but can be turned off, though this also turns off the function for the Emoji key if you remap it to be the application key, aka, turning off the left one disables it for both keys. They should have just left this key on the right where the Emoji key now lives.
Calc key now sits above the F11 key, which is also silly as it is nowhere near the number pad now.
The lock key, sits right above the DEL key, a silly place for it.
The Office Key, quite useful for some, once you figure it out, you can open most (not all though) of the locally installed MS Office apps or use it to take you directly to the Office 365 login page. So, useless for anyone not using MS Office and it cannot be remapped.
Only three Fav keys now too, making me feel a little shortchanged.
The keyboard itself feels quite nice, it is quiet enough and quite comfortable and feels well built. It is however not a match for the kit it replaced, the Microsoft 4000, and has some really duff placement choices and keys.
The mouse feels fine, it is nice and light and works really well.
Both plugged in, Windows installed the drivers and I was able to modify some of the keys from the MS Keyboard and Mouse Center.
Overall, working well and the niggles are likely not a deal-breaker for most folks.
I only buy ergonomic keyboards and find this one very user friendly but will take a bit of getting used to if you haven’t used one before. Many years ago I was trained as a typist and we had to use both hands and all fingers and keep them hovering over the keys (no crossing from side to side!) so this keyboard suits me very well (;o)
Put some serious mileage on this keyboard since I bought it.. so far hasn’t let me down.. there are a great selection of functional keys and the typing feel is great.. the key caps are easy to remove for cleaning..
Very comfortable and great value and ergonomic mouse comes too, was clear in picture but not in descriptio
Love the shape and feel of the keyboard. – my first ergonomic keyboard. It really makes a difference in hand positioning.
As from Microsoft, expected, and received, a keyboard mouse that did not feel cheap.
Keys can feel chunky/bulky but this suits me fine.
I have not tested the gaming or sleep mode so cannot comment hence my rating for these features.
The ergonomics
The keyboard letters are already fading and I only brought it a month ago. I really do like the keyboard and its functionality and ease of use but am hugely disappointed that the letters are already fading.
I used to use the MS Ergonomic 4000 Keyboard and also used a Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard. In some ways this is easier as it is wired so no more battery problems. Also, it is better than my MS 4000 Keyboard.
This keyboard is exactly what I needed with my poor old arthritic hands. I do need to retrain 2 of my fingers as the keep hitting the wrong keys but the relief it gives over a regular keyboard is well worth it. It does feel very strange at first but you soon get used to it.
Bending my wrist out of shape using a previous keyboard left me with horrible joint pain and a steroid injection. I love the design of this and it’s easy to use. Being a lot bigger, it tends to get dirtier but you can use an effective keyboard spray to get rid of it.. The wrist pad does stain a lot. But it should be ok.
My first sample of an ergonomic keyboard, I purchased from the warehouse, slight dent in the box but the contents were in perfect condition.
It took a while to get used to the ergonomic shape but my typing is getting faster on it with time. I wouldn’t recommend it for gaming though as the keys are not in the usual places it could prove tricky getting used to.
If you opt for downloading the Microsoft Keyboard and mouse software it allows you more flexibility in programming the “hot keys” on the keyboard and changing some options on the mouse.
Overall it is a nice bit of kit and worth the investment for a home/office setup
My previous ergonomic Microsoft keyboard worked great for many years but did not like full fat coke being poured into it by my granddaughter. I have replaced with this wired version.
