I upgraded from a Surface Pro 4 to the Surface Laptop Studio after I got a fantastic deal on this item. One thing of note however is that if you get the i7 version, which comes with a GPU chipset representing an RTX3050 then make sure you download the latest NVidia drivers, or else you’re stuck with the onboard standard intel Xe, at which point you might as well not bother at all.
Splash out, if you’re going to get this get the i7/RTX3050 combo otherwise you’re going to be disappointed.
The only major downside is the connectivity which is two USB-c ports and a headphone jack. The proprietary ‘Surface connector’ port can be hooked up to a dock (and at 250 you might want to stay away from that thing unless you’re a power user who needs super high speed ethernet and display ports – i ended up buying the previous model which works fine for my needs), but the charger it comes with does have a built in USB-A socket for charging something else (power delivery only though, no data transfer).
Few things:
1. It’s a bit heavier than other laptops, due to the fans etc. for the GPU. But it’s not as bad as I feared.
2. It runs Adobe Creative Suite really well – which was one of the prime considerations for me. I had a Lenovo before, and it was small, light but really struggles with Premiere Pro
3. Battery is fine. It’s not an all day device due to the power sucked up by the GPU. But it lasts me all day between meetings just fine. And it can charge from USB-C – so I don’t need to carry around the charging block.
4. It doesn’t have that many ports – just two USB-C, so I bought an adapter and that’s been brilliant.
5. Touch screen is fine. I don’t really use the 45 degree angle thing, other than to show off sometimes, but you miss the keyboard. Some people have said it’s good for watching movies – ok, but I don’t do that on my laptop.
So in short, it’s not a mac. But it is good. And yes you have to have a hotmail/microsoft email address for it – but I think that’s true of all Windows computers these days.
I love it. It does what I want it to do very well.
The keyboard and touch pad a joy to use. Great battery life. very good sound quality.
The build quality is exception and the two in one concept is genius. So those are my likes.
There isn’t really much to dislike, but there could be an improvement in increasing the number of ports.
2no. USB-C’s is in my opinion 1 no. light. There should be at least 3 no. It is also quite expensive, but the quality justifies the price. But for me these are very minor quibbles, and this is a solid 5-star laptop.
The surface studio tablet/laptop exceeded our expectations in every way. The build quality is very high. Will continue with this range when we upgrade years to come.

I love the imaginative screen. So its both tablet and laptop. Lovely keyboard. Not convinced by the stylus. It is surprisingly heavy for a modern laptop.
Does what it says amazing for drawing and general internet browsing. More aimed towards the professional world that general user. Always loved my macs but haven’t really noticed a difference in the switch.
