I was looking for something with a level of management, switch allows a number of VLANs to be setup (along with different levels of complexity) and you can also setup a mirrored port capturing data from any selected ports and mirroring that data to another port which is very helpful.
I had the 8 port but needed something bigger, there is a large price jump from 8 to 16 port.
Works very well easy to set up very good will buy agai
Worked a treat allowed me to expand the POE network, highly recommend
The switch has been running well for 2 years. Unfortunately it started giving an intermittent issue where the internet stopped working, which the old off & on fix worked . I got on to Netgear support and they shipped me out a new switch. I can’t complain about that service, made me glad I spent a bit more.
Fairly straighforward, as any switch should be. Accessing the management page does unfortunately require windows application download, and I had to learn that there is a difference between passive and active PoE, but it is otherwise working reat. I will note however that the device does make fairly high pitched whine sounds. Is is not too bad, but definitely audible in a quiet room.
Not much to say about this switch.
Usual Netgear quality.
Does it’s job.
Management interface is nicely done and easy to navigate.
Only criticism is that some of the ports do not want to let go of the cable plugs when you’re trying to remove them. Regardless of pressing the release clip on the plug the sockets seem to hold on to the plugs and require an uncomfortable amount of jiggling to get them to release.
Not a big deal but I’m hoping it doesn’t lead to any damage as I will be using these for training sessions and will need to plug and unplug things regularly.
Anyway, other than this it’s spot on.
I bought this switch to provide a few extra Ethernet ports and the option to power some of my devices over a single Ethernet cable (mostly Pi’s and a VoIP telephone hub). I did not require the additional benefits and features offered by a more expensive switch and you cannot really go wrong with Netgear. This is marketed as a business class switch which although unmanaged it still has some useful features such as PoE port priority, which means that if you hit the maximum power rating of the switch the devices on the high number ports get powered down before those on the low numbered ports. Using this switch has also improved the latency and jitter of connected devices compared to my ISP branded router which was a bonus (especially for VoIP). This unit comes with self adhesive rubber feet and rackmount ears depending on how you plan on using it and is smaller than you probably imagine – check out the measurements in one of the product description pictures. My only criticism is that the power cable from the PSU seems a little thin and I would have liked to have seen a better strain relief on it, but I am using it on a desktop rather than rackmounting it and a cable tie with a self adhesive base relieves my paranoia. As a side-note, this switch uses negotiated PoE+ so no harm will come of it if you plug a standard Ethernet enabled device into it. Half of the devices I currently have connected to mine (including the upstream router, printer and a smart TV) are non-PoE and are all working without issue. For the Pi’s, I have a combination of official PoE+ hats and dongle type splitters (the DSLRKIT gigabit ones available on Amazon) and all work well with this switch.
TOP!
I’ve got this for powering a couple of POE devices and it’s doing exactly what it supposed to without any hassle.
I’m not that IT savvy so I’m really happy with how easy this switch was to set up for my new cabin. Connect it all up. It works. Job done.
I bought this to power an internal WiFi access point. Initially it didn’t seem to be supplying enough power and I gave it a 2-star review I have subsequently found out the access point was to blame as it wouldn’t draw PoE+ power unless specifically set to do so. Since sorting this out this switch is now powering the access point well I have changed my review to 4 stars. It’s worth checking PoE powered devices when powering from a switch like this. This switch is well price and performs as expected.
I chose this switch because I needed a lot of PoE-enabled sockets and a compact size, without any fan noise. The switch looks and works great and I now realise why it’s compact and fanless – it has a separate power supply which is MASSIVE! Apart from that it’s a great buy as long as you can find somewhere to put the big black box.
This switch works and still has the potential to do so much more I do quibble that the instructions are not helpful if you have no idea what your doing .
Small and will built. Quality metal construction that dissipates heat well. This product does not heat up much but I feel the metal case helps.
I use mine to power CCTV cameras so the total power output is plenty. It’s located in the loft so after running through summer heat in the UK it has held up well. I’ll update this review if I have issues. But after 6 months, all had been well.
For businesses or home users looking to deploy power over ethernet devices on their local area networks then I would recommend this product.
From my experience in the industry, netgear products offer much better performance and reliability in their switches than some of the cheaper brands I have tried. This Power over Ethernet switch delivers high performance on network transfers as well as power to network devices.
It can deliver 15 watts per port of power.
It only has 4 ports for Power over Ethernet but that is more than enough for small networks
This switch also supports VLAN tagging, as well as having a management web interface. You do not need to install the supplied software to access this interface.
One thing that is recommended doing is upgrading to the latest version of the firmware available on the netgear web site.
Overall very happy with this switch and have been using it to power a number of wireless access points and networked IP cameras in a number of locations.
This is a quite reasonable switch, and seems to handle most tasks adequately. It’s certainly stable, which is excellent news – not all the NetGear switches I’ve had are. The PoE support seems flawless, too – I use it to power a GS108Tv3 hidden in a cupboard.
The major downside is that there is no facility to automated monitoring (SNMP would be perfect here). If you need this, but don’t need PoE output, the much cheaper GS108Tv3 seems better here, and it’s a mystery to me why the statistics exposed on the web interface couldn’t be exposed over SNMP just as easily.
