Until I saw this phone, there weren’t many Nokia’s that I remember seeing which could compete in the premium market – most Nokia’s were about average without anything standing out too much.

Compared to its predecessors, it’s a lighter phone at 185g with a better chipset, display and arguably camera. However, it has a lower battery life, no option to expand internal memory and for now, seems to be locked to Android 12 only.

Design looks nice and sleek but nothing to really differentiate it from its competitors.
    It’s got a large 6.43″ FHD+ display (2400 x 1080) which looks quite crisp.

It’s quite responsive and doesn’t seem to have any performance issues that I can notice. It has 6GB ram and 128GB internal memory but there’s no option to expand the capacity as there’s no micro-SD card slot on this.
There is also another model that has 8GB ram and 256GB internal memory for those that may need it.

Camera quality is decent considering it has a 50MP camera – was happier with the quality of low-light and night images as the night mode did a good job processing these.

Battery life was good but varied upon usage. This would last a couple days on minimal usage but if used throughout the day, it would need charging once a night, or more often if used for videos/games etc.

Having only 3 years of support for security updates is a bit of a concern if you’re expecting the phone to last a long time.

For 280.00, I think this is reasonable enough but in a saturated market, it won’t be long until another phone comes along and poses a challenge to this.

All in all, I think this is a very good showing from Nokia to re-establish themselves in the premium smartphone market, but there is quite a lot of competition at this price point that may be able to offer more for less.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersReplaced X20 which I thought was great. This one is smaller, thinner and lighter. Very responsive and fast, great camera. Only thing I preferred on the X20 was the fingerprint is in the power button and no one could see I was using my thumbprint. This one has a screen fingerprint that takes longer to open the phone and is very obvious. Otherwise, very happy with it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is an impressive smart phone. Made from recyclable materials and a commitment from the manufacturer that this product won’t be phased out from updates it offers good value for money, looks stylish and sleek and has a great camera.

There’s a number of different settings, night mode, artificial A.I. and the picture clarity is good. The macro capability is lacking, however considering the price of the handset vs others that cost 3X’s more what it does offer is incredible.

You can have a digital SIM card with this phone, easy to request and download with excellent pricing plans available through the phone, these are particularity good if you use plan to use your phone abroad. You have the option to change month to month.

There is built in well-being and parental control options if needed.

    Excellent camera and operatio

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersNot sure how best to write a review on this Nokia X30 phone – I haven’t owned a Nokia for many (many) years, instead opting for Samsungs or Motorolas, but with this latest model I think I have been missing out.

What makes a phone special? I suppose everyone has their own reason for a specific phone or brand, but for me it boils down to quality of picture (video and camera) and device speed. For the first of these it has a fantastically clear screen for watching videos and an amazing 50MP camera for truly great pictures. With the 5G connection capability (you need a 5G contract of course) this means you’ll get the absolute best possible mobile video streaming quality.

Then with one of the newest Android operating systems around (12.0 – 13 was only released a couple of months ago) it takes advantage of the latest OS updates. My downloads are quick, with a good amount of storage of 128Gb – but no expansion slot – and no pauses when streaming videos, it provides a truly accessible and usable phone. As a bonus, it claims to be made from recycled aluminium and plastic – in this “looking after the planet” concern this is at least a start (but a long way to go for phones – given how many billions of phones there are in the world)

The Nokia X30 5G arrives in a small, branded cardboard box. On the box it says Built to Last, crafted with recycled materials. The top of the box slides off to reveal your new phone encased in thin see-through plastic. My first impressions of the phone are good, it is thin and compact, also lightweight with Nokia imprinted on the back in silver. The back of the phone features a 50 MP OIS Camera. The phone screams quality at this point, as you would expect given the price point.

Below the phone is a black warranty card, promising three years of warranty OS upgrades and monthly security updates. Below this are several thin pamphlets, in different languages, two of them are in English, they are Get Started and Product and Safety information. Below this is a small pin to open the SIM Card / SD card drawer on the phone, and a small USB cable (which could do with being a bit longer but it’s adequate.) There is no USB plug included so you’ll need to get your own. Given the price this is disappointing.

The Get Started booklet shows you the various sections of the phone. They are: SIM Card slot, Microphone, Loudspeaker, Flash, Camera, Microphone, Front Camera, Volume Keys, Power / Lock / Google Assistant, Fingerprint sensor and USB connector. The phone doesn’t seem to use a standard USB connection, instead it uses a smaller USB connection (which is really annoying!), this means I’m gonna have to buy a new USB plug that fits it. For now there is sufficient battery charge, 42%, to review the phone.

When you turn the phone on you are greeted with a menu, here you set the time and date and your location. You are asked to connect to your Wi-Fi to finish set up, set a fingerprint — if you want to, a pin number — if you want to — or a face ID — if you prefer. When the phone comes on, after you’ve accepted the usual annoying terms and conditions, you’re greeted with a menu that is very much the same on most modern phones. Here various apps are shown, including phone, your SIM contacts, YouTube, Google Play Store etc. with the option to download more from the store. Instagram etc. The date and time is shown at the top of the screen. A swipe down will show the remaining battery, which started at 42%, your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc. These can be turned on and off with a press of a button.

Press the button at the side of the phone and it comes on, the phone will go into rest mode when you’re not using it, press it again to switch the phone back on. Sliding down will show you your apps which include text messages. Sliding left will show you google news stories. When you enter an app sliding down will return you to the home menu. It works like most modern smart phones.

I am a novice when it comes to smart phones and if I’m being honest I can’t see much difference between this and the far cheaper Nokia G11. That phone has a slightly bigger build but it has all the same apps as this one and a decent camera for the price. I’m sure this phone is better build wise and technology wise (I’m sure it has a better camera and more memory) but as a novice I can’t really see a difference between the two. They work in exactly the same way, with the same menu layout. I suppose this phone is a better status symbol (being more expensive) if you’re into that, which I aren’t.

This Nokia has a frame made with 100 percent recycled aluminium and the back cover is made of 65 percent recycled plastic. The camera is protected with scratch proof glass. The camera includes Dark Vision and Night Selfie shots, it provides ultra-wide angle shots.

Looking at some stats for the phone online (because there is no instruction booklet), this is a 5G Smartphone, with 6GB RAM, 128GB ROM, 6.43″ FHD+ and an AMOLED Display. Would an OLED screen really make a difference at this size? Doubtful. It has 90Hz refresh rate, a 50MP camera and super-fast 33W charging support. The phone looks the part in a nice metallic blue. I recommend you buy a phone case to prevent scratching it.

Tech wise I’m sure this is faster and a far superior phone but I can’t see the upgrades in action myself. Maybe if you play games you would see a noticeable upgrade. I don’t play them. Maybe if you take photos and videos a lot you will also experience that difference. I don’t. To be fair, the camera takes a beautiful picture, as you would expect (given the price), and the pictures look great on the OLED screen. Video is recorded well too with a nice clear image. As a novice I text, look at apps occasionally and phone people rarely. I don’t live on my phone, I still access the web via a laptop.

It’s still an excellent phone, with a nice built, in a gorgeous blue metallic. I’m awarding it four stars out of five, but as a novice, I am perfectly happy with the Nokia G11. I’m gonna give this Nokia to my dad.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersA solid specced smartphone that comes available in two different colours: blue and white for the current price of 399.

It uses the Android 12 operating system which I find to be quite friendly to use. The phone has a bezel-less 1080p FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate option.

Having used this for a while now, I can safely say that the colour clarity and the overall sharpness of any visual being displayed is great for the price. Although, I do tend to lower the 90Hz back to 60Hz to save on battery. I find that the increase in responsiveness is not worth the battery life.

The 6GB ram is a nice average amount that didn’t bottleneck my day to day use. 8GB is the sweet spot but 6GB is a fair compromise for the rest of the specs. There is a 8GB version of this phone by the way.

In terms of processing power, it is more than capable of running anything I throw at it. Games run fairly well too (Candy Crush and subway surfers) but I’m not much of a mobile gamer so take that with a grain of salt.

The 90Hz refresh rate definitely shines during game sessions but that will definitely tank the battery life. Speaking of the battery life, it has a 4200 mAh battery which is a decent amount. Combined with the lowering of the refresh rate, it can last me a whole day (from full charge) of constant use. Said constant use is mostly me taking pictures. The quality of which is really good, provided you spend the time to adjust some settings. Seriously, I am impressed with the camera quality. Oh and the 5G connectivity works well and is lightning fast.

Now the negatives. One thing that I am not a fan of is that there is no SD slot. This variant does have 128GB internal storage but as a person who takes pictures, I find that will quickly be used up.

Another negative is that it doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Call me old fashioned but I hate having to charge too many devices and having to carry wireless earphones that may fall once in a while. Still, none of these are really dealbreakers.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the phone is made up of 100% recycled aluminium and 65% recycled plastic which is great if you are environmentally conscious.

At the end of the day, it is a good quality smartphone that has the specs that I am looking for when I use smartphones. Those are: good camera, friendly OS, decent RAM, and a clear, crisp display. It comes with a three years warranty and a guarantee of three years of monthly security updates which are really nice to have. I can definitely recommend this.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat phone for price, mybe HMD Global are bringing back the Nokia Brand.
Good overall price paid 299 , although I would not have paid the asking prive from Nokia When this phone was first announced on their website.
Yes other mid range phones are available at this price point, and some with slighly better specs that zhis phone.
Given i first went back to Nokia braded phones with X10 and needed a replacement, i purchaed this phone, due to being overall impressed with the last phone i bought.
So a week or so in using the X30 5g.
Good build quality, dissapointed that back of phone is plastic, im sure by now Nokia could use recycled glass here.
Overall good quality build , with aliminium body and new glass on screen.
Overall experince in use good screen, and sound for size of phone.
Dissapointed it has no expandable storage, not sure why Nokia decided to remove this feature.
And lack of headphone jack for thoses of us who prefer to plug in headphones.
Supports bluetooth 5.1 for everything else.
Good ram , a SoC give this phone a user experiance .

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI was excited to be able to give this Nokia a try, its been a long time since I have had a phone like this one as my current one was an iPhone.

My first thoughts was how light and thin this phone is, the body is made from 100% recycled aluminium and 65% recycled plastic which is great for the environment.

The camera is amazing and has been giving me nothing but perfectly clear images and videos, there is lots of features on this phone which all work well.

The battery has been lasting me well over a day now but this does depending on your usage of the phone each day.

I have been looking for a case and screen protector to help protect it from any damages but it does seem difficult to find one currently with it being a new phone.

Overall I am very happy with this and its a 5* from me.

    Amazing

super phone at a great value price, the quality of the camera is really good, the features of the phone are at the current market equivalent of a mid market range phone, the phone feels sturdy and it transferred all my apps and settings from my old phone seamlessly, all the packaging was recycled which is great nowadays, great value for money

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a great little phone and what I like most of all is that it’s made from 100% recycled aluminium and 65% recycled plastic.
A lot of people will be interested in the technical specifications but if you’re like me and not that tech savvy then things like looks, feel, size, camera and battery usage are far more important.
It looks great and feels nice in your hand but it does feel thinner than previous phones. With that in mind I definitely would want a cover for it. As it’s such a new phone though they’re not that easy to find.
The camera is amazing, it’s actually better than my proper camera. Night shots almost look like they’ve been taken in the daytime.
The battery time looks very good although from experience I know this deteriorates the more time it’s charged.
I really like this phone, find it easy to use and love the camera.

    Nokia X30, great camera

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe Nokia X30 is a beautifully built, very practical, solid device. It has a large 6.43″ FHD+ 1080 x 2400 screen at 90Hz.
As well as a nano-SIM, the X30 can use an eSIM, NFC payment is also available on it.
It is great that the X30 is made from recycled materials. The build quality is also superb, with the edges made from aluminium and the phone having a nice weight to it. You would expect to see this build quality on flagship phones and not a mid range one.
At the bottom of the phone is a USB-C port along with decent downward firing speakers and the SIM port. On the side you get the usual power and volume buttons. Sadly the X30 does not take an SD card, but comes with 128GB internal storage.
The battery easily lasted the day, I would say that you get around a day and a half out of it, but I charge mine every night. It also has fast charging at 33w, but you will need to supply your own charge plug, as it comes with just a charge cable, which again is good for the environment.
The screen scrolls very smoothly and runs at 90Hz. The OLED display looks great with vibrant colours and deep blacks, you also get the fingerprint reader on the display, which is working well for me.
The camera on the X30 is fantastic, It is 50MP and delivers some great shots. The night vision has given me better results than on my Google Pixel 6. Again, this is the type of results you would expect from flagship phones. The video capture is 1080p at 60fps, with various modes such as slow motion etc. The front facing selfie camera is 16mp and gives perfectly decent pictures, but I tend to never use the front facing camera on my phones anyway.
Performance wise, I found the phone to be smooth and snappy and was more than happy with it. If you are into gaming, you can probably find better performing phones at this price range, but you should still be able to run most games at a decent level.
All in all, I’m very impressed with it so far. Since I don’t play games on my phone, an improved build quality and camera are perfect for me.
It is also fantastic that NOKIA is taking a green approach with recycled parts and their Circular service.

    Fantastic eco-friendly phone
