Octopath Traveler 2 is a masterpiece in his genre. You get to play with 8 characters, each with distinctive stories and abilities. You live their stories through different chapters while leveling them up and gaining new abilities. There are also secondary classes that you can assign to them (4 of them are “secret”) and hidden dungeons. What’s not to like about all of this? Prepare to spend hours and hours as you will get hooked up! (if you love the genre). The HD 2D graphic keeps it very modern while providing that nostalgia effect we all love.
It does everything the first game did but better. Visuals are the same but in a good way. The combat is familiar but has new bits to it, with interesting new twists.
I’ll admit from the start, as an old-skool JRPG enthusiast, I was a huge fan of the original Octopath Traveller. I couldn’t wait to dive into this sequel, and boy, it did not disappoint! Playing on the Nintendo Switch allowed me to immerse myself in this enchanting world like never before.
The first thing that struck me was the visuals. The developers have once again outdone themselves with the art style, capturing every detail of the vibrant landscapes and character designs. Each of the eight protagonists has a unique tale, and I was captivated by their diverse backgrounds and motivations. The depth of their stories and how they interweave make for an engrossing narrative that keeps you hooked for hours.
The combat system, a mix of turn-based and strategy, is both challenging and rewarding. The addition of new job classes and abilities in Octopath Traveller 2 enhances the gameplay experience, providing ample room for experimentation and tactics. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a newcomer to the series, the game strikes an excellent balance in its difficulty, ensuring everyone can enjoy the adventure.
The developers really have put some effort into world building here too. Exploring cities, dungeons, and hidden nooks feels like a genuine adventure. And the music is great, perfectly complementing each scene whilst accentuating the emotions of the characters.
The Switch’s portability is a massive advantage for a game like this, allowing me to continue my quest when on the go. The seamless transition between handheld and docked mode is a testament to the game’s optimization.
Octopath Traveller 2 builds upon its predecessor’s strengths and delivers an exceptional gaming experience on the Nintendo Switch. With its mesmerizing visuals, compelling storytelling, and engaging gameplay, it’s a must-have for classic JRPG lovers and also players new to the genre.
Har inte hunnit spela 1an n och det var ett bra pris p detta s slog till.
A must-have for anybody who played the first Octopath Traveler. This sequel is much of the same, including the art style and battle mechanics. However there is much improved, including additional jobs, the introduction of the day/night cycle (which you can switch freely between) and more interaction between the party characters (something which was sorely lacking in the first game).
Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys traditional JRPGs.
Great Qualities:
Music, Art style, battle system, exploration of the world, interaction with NPCs, freedom of choice
Decent Qualities:
Storytelling, visual fidelity on switch, English voice acting
Concerns to be aware of:
Performance on switch can be a bit slow in some areas that feature lots of VFX or moving sprites.
Random battles can be reduced but not completely turned off like some more modern RPGs such as the Bravely series.
I switched to Japanese voice acting as I preferred how they sounded, English wasn’t bad just not great in my opinion.
Game is quite long if you wish to fully complete it and see the true ending, anywhere between 60-100 hours depending on how much side content you do along the way.
Conclusion:
Awesome game full of interesting characters, unique side questing system and engaging battles. The music is a particular highlight for me, if you really appreciate good RPG music and Japanese composers this game is well worth your attention from start to finish!
Great game! And arrived in a single day in perfect condition. Very happy!
A must play for all turn based JRPG lovers. Complex, beautiful and extremely well written.
It inherits most good aspects from the first generation and does a lot of improvements on what we expect to have (eg. better stories, more interactions among main characters)
One thing I feel degrades is music, but maybe it is just personal taste thing.
In general strongly recommend to People who like classic JRPG.
I really enjoyed the first game and this second entry didn’t disappoint. The first game required a lot of grinding which didn’t particularly bother me but that seems to be much improved upon in this game. Beautiful to look at with a great soundtrack. If you enjoy turn based RPGs and thr 2D style design then this entry in the series is for you. It’s a completely new story and doesn’t require you to have played the first one.
