This is a good performer. It feels a little bulky at first, but one soon gets used to it though. It just cuts so well, no catching, snagging or anything, it just cuts.
The comb attachment is removable, simply rotate the cutting depth dial to minimum & pull off the comb. One big reason for buying panasonic is that their rechargeable batteries are second to none. Will hold a decent charge for many, many charging cycles. Overall, good value for money. Other brands might cut as well, but their batteries won’t last anywhere near as long!.
Writing this review after 18 months of use. GB42 Model.
It’s a great beard trimmer, nice even cut and charge lasts a decent amount of time.
My only complaints would be with the comb attachment; it can be a bit fiddly to remove and reattach and also it is too large to effectively trim your moustache to the same length as your beard – it’s just too big.
Ideally there should be a second attachment designed for moustaches.
I went for the GB37 model – not sure why they combined it on the same page with another model, meaning they share the same rating, but hey.
Went for this one as it’s primarily for shaving my head, not just beard, and it’s a little wider than standard beard trimmers, maybe by about 15%. So, not much, but “every little helps,” as Bob Hoskins used to say.
The absolutely essential thing for me is the slidable/adjustable comb-attachment. I have no idea why in 2024 probably 99% of these things come with half a dozen different lengthed plastic comb-guards instead of one adjustable one. Who can be bothered with those? Not me.
The comb-attachment slides up and down in half-millimetre increments, from as little as 1mm right up to 10, which should be more than a big enough range for most.
I’ve just clipped my head hair in about 5 minutes flat with this thing. Started with it set to 4mm then finished the edges at 3.5mm. I won’t win any barber awards but it honestly looks absolutely fine.
Finally, it comes with a charging bay. Strangely, the clipper doesn’t just drop on and lift off with ease; one must apply a little pressure to push the clipper onto the charger then use two hands to prise them apart. There is a little red light on the charging bay to indicate charging is in progress but no indication of charging progress/percentage, and the light does not go off or change colour when charging has completed (as confirmed in the enclosed booklet). So, you basically have to use your own judgement, knowing that charging from empty to full takes 8 hours (again, according to the booklet). A full charge yields approximately 40 minutes’ run time.
I recommend this clipper as of now, not because it’s particularly awesome, but because there is so little competition in this price bracket for the three elements this thing covers: it’s a little wider than standard beard trimmers so more efficient for clipping head hair; it has a single adjustable comb attachment with a good range of lengths; it’s cordless.
Unless something better were to become available in this price bracket I would buy again.
I bought this to replace multiple shavers in the house. Adjustable attachment ‘means varied length on demand and a sleek, tidy appearance makes it simple to integrate into any decor. Ladies are supper sharp and if kept well oiled will lest forever.
The design affords a strong grip and steady hand where required and its small enough to be included in your travels with excellent portability.
This is well designed and robust trimmer which is genuinely waterproof, trims well and evenly. Takes a while to charge but once it is, has a decent battery life. The plastic trim length adjustment piece can be fiddly to locate, but that’s really only a minor flaw.
Well made product and easy to use. Not as good as the Braun one I replaced as I find the beard guide a bit big to smoothly use particularly around the moustache. Waterproof and easy enough to clean and the long battery life is particularly good.
Excellent upgrade to my previous trimmer. Quite wide cutting head, very effective. Easy to use. Nice charger. Seems excellent value for money.
My previous one I had for years. Bought this which is a similar style just that this one you can wash under a sink which my previous one you couldn’t. Does the job
Great easy to adjust cutting. Very even and smooth operation. Rechargeable battery last for ages. I love the inbuilt turn dial for cutting length, it’s very precise and easy to adjust. Great for beard and body hair.
It cuts really well, very smooth, no catching. Can cut very close if required but not very long. Max 10mm. I’ve looked for an attachment for increased lenght but can’t find one.
I use this trimmer to keep a short stuble beard, so shave about twice a week. It works great and I only have to charge it every few months. The real USP for me was that I can just rinse it under the tap, saving all the faff or cleaning the hairs out. I can also use it before I shower without worrying about it accidentally getting wet, then shower and wash all the hairs away. Hey presto. Works a charm. Had it for six months now and would recommend.
I had another shaver which I used for years but that one’s battery died. This replacement is a big step up! The battery lasts for ages, and I like the easy to use length adjustment. I also like the fact that unlike my previous model, it offers a very short length option which I use to trim my facial hair to short stubble length which is how I like it.
I have also found that unlike my previous shaver, it doesn’t make me itch (or at least, it’s SIGNIFICANTLY better) when I trim my chest hair. Definite win.
I like this beard trimmer. Sturdy in the hand. The cutter adjustment is accurate. The cutter assembly comes apart easily for cleaning and clicks back into place with a positive action. Waterproof enclosure makes cleaning a breeze. Good battery life. Cons – the red charging indicator light stays on all the time even when the trimmer is fully charged. The unit is too big to trim under the nose with the comb fitted. So a steady hand needed when trimming here! All in all though very happy with my purchase.
Only used once so far but it gave an excellent trim to my beard. Very easy to adjust trim length & clean after use.
Head seems a touch on the large side for my requirements.
i like this product easy to use and has good quality and good value for money.
For just several ‘s more, these trimmers are so much better value than those that cost around 20 & come with all the plastic attachments. Panasonic have made an amazingly better design by incorporating a simple turndial wheel that alters the height of the blades by 0.5mm per turn. This means more cutting permutations than by fitting combs, & by removing the standard comb supplied, it’s possible to use the trimmers as a shaver. It’s incredible how much better this Panasonic product is than its competitors, not just the design, but the build quality of both the trimmers & the charger. Once charged, the battery has a long life of nearly an hour, making these trimmers well worth the extra cost over the alternatives…
Works great on my short hair and most of my beard.
You to be really careful when trimming the bottom of your chin, as the cutting spacer is only on the top of the blades I took a couple of chunks out of my beard before I realized. It will take a week or two to grow back.
Liked this razor as a product but find that compared to previous razors I’ve owned it’s too chunky when trying to trim moustache area between nose and lip, especially near to nose. Other than that, I have no complaints!
The shaver was easy to use and very useful the only downside was during charging time as you never know when its fully charge or not. the red light was on even forget to remove from the socket for three days and still on red light in the indicator.
Wanted a cheap electric razor to keep a stubble beard. Tried one from another brand, bought from boots, and it was rubbish.
This has good battery life, multiple length settings – you can even remove the guard for a “0” length.
Only issue is that you can’t use as a wired razor – the charge unit is a base stand.
This electric razer is the best I have owned! It comes with a handy charging stand, including a UK plug (very helpful). It took quite a while for the initial charge but battery life seem good and has not been an issue.
I love the scroll wheel function of the different length! Saves on space as I do not need to have hundreds of different attachments!
It was very easy to use and very statifed with this product!
Well built Trimmer that works well with coarse hair, it’s just a shame the charger is proprietary, and cumbersome to use. It feels like it’s going to break every time you ‘snap’ it on the charging dock, and there is no way of knowing if the trimmer has been fully charged or not, as there is a single permanent red led light when charging. Also, judging by the comments left by other users, it seems the charger is hard to replace as well, which is another worry.
The shaving blades are quite small and fragile also, which doesn’t seem durable in the long run.
Overall, I’d say it’s a good trimmer, but unfortunately let down by the charging dock that it comes with, therefore I wouldn’t recommend it for travelling.
