Tips on How to Use Our Baby Food Maker
– Please make sure the sieve is properly pressed into the jar lid to avoid appliance damage.
– Fit jar lid properly on the jar to ensure the product is working well. (Jar lid fitting may be tight at first use, but will fit well after several usages).
– Do not let the appliance blend more than 30 seconds at a time, take a short break in between (to cool down) and continue with blending in pulses of about 5 seconds to get the expected food consistency.
– Please do not shake or move the jar during blending to avoid appliance damage.

I love it, so easy to steam and blend baby food!
Used it most days for nearly 3 years! It’s so useful and allowed me to continue making healthy meals even for a toddle
Love love love this machine. Super easy to use. The food tastes amazing keeping all its flavour. It’s only lost points because I think it has a few unnecessary ridges which makes it a bit more time consuming to clean and my lid inside stained on first use with carrot. Regardless I’d this I would recommend for its simplicity
Love this product, its very easy to use, i use it all the time to make my babys food.
You can make everything in it (veg, fruit and meat). It’s brilliant for introducing new foods as am able to make things from scratch and ensure that I know exactly what’s going in her food.
So simple to steam food and then it it, comes with a manual and has a timer that goes off when it’s finished. Doesn’t really stain unless you leave the food in there without washing it straight away.
This is the best steamer/blender out there ! It is very easy to use and everything is ready in 15 min and it’s easy to clean, you have just one jug and the job is done . Fresh made food for my little chickpea. I have tried everything and i have to say the taste is amazing.
It dose get stains from carrots but it’s normal fresh vegetables do that! Even so is not so bad if you clean it after and don’t let it just sit there.
One of the best investments. Just makes cooking for baby super easy, fast and hassle free. When you need to do a lot (including various baby food) and is so little time is really handy to have it.
As people say it is hard to clean but we managed with vinegar.
It is good. Does the Job. Steams well and blends well.
However I wish it came with a timer. I think the newer model does.
Also because of how the cover is designed it is very hard to clean and you must clean well otherwise it will have mould. Like mine did after I did not use it for about a week. Even though I thought it was clean. You have to take the cover apart everytime you clean it so you can reach all the corners. Besides that I still think its value for money.
It does perfectly the job and very easy to use!
As a daddy that little steamer is a blessing. The fact that you just need to cube your veges or fruits and the steamer does the rest is just simple and easy.
You just fill up your water and turn the button to steam and riiiing! VOILA! your vegs are ready. You then switch it around and twist to blend and in 2 min you get your mash or soup!
Cleaning? Super easy as you can dismantle every parts in matter of seconds and just wash them all on the go.
I now even use it for us when I’m doing our meals for quick mash, broccoli, green beans.. while I just cook the meat separately.
We have used it quite a lot, great building quality. It does make some noise when in use, so make sure your babylishous is not sleeping right next to the machine when using it. The food is VERY hot, so a little time to make it cool down as it stays hot for a long time. Very durable and I only had to buy a new lid for it, because I dropped it after couple of years use and it broke, so nice you can buy spare parts and for a good price. All in all this was an indispensable product for us, when the kids were little and I can give my warmest recommendations for this product when you have them cute little kiddies <333
I’ve been wanting to buy this for so long for my lo so I didn’t have to use a big steamer and a separate blender then washing them afterwards which was an absolute hassle for a busy mum like me. So after asking my hubby for consent (and money) to buy this, he finally said YES! When it came, I was overjoyed! It felt like christmas for me. It was the perfect size, everything was perfect except for that darn lid which at first was difficult to open. But it became easier the more I use it. Then alas I tried it, steaming was a breeze, and the blender was pretty strong too for its size. Overall, I am very pleased with this product! I always use it in making homemade food. My lo prefers homemade baby food instead of store bought food. It was abit pricy though..
I was ummming and arrrghing between the Tommee Tippee Baby Food Steamer Blender and the Philips Avent. I read all the reviews for both machines and was constantly changing one for the other in my basket before finally deciding on the Philips Avent and I am glad that I did. When it arrived it was well protected and easy to unpack. I sat down and read the instructions and warnings which are easily understandable. Then I decided to have a go at making my first batch of puree to freeze for my baby grandson – Cauliflower. I thought that I would have to stand over it whilst it steamed but no as it beeps when it has finished steaming. Leave the machine for a minute so as to allow all the steam to leave the container so you don’t end up getting burned then it’s a very simple matter of flipping over the jug and holding the button in the blender position until the food reaches the consistency that you require – which doesn’t take long. Very easy to clean and in less than 45 mins I had made 1 Cauliflower in to a batch of cooked and pureed baby food ready for freezing in ice cubes trays and had cleaned and tidied it away. My only criticism is that the Recipe book needs to be looked at by Philips as each recipe is in done in all the different languages before going on to the next recipe which makes things a little bit of a palarva when trying to find a recipe it would be much better if all the recipes were in one place in one language at a time and on the picture of the different parts of the steamer/blender parts 5 & 7 are transposed. Nothing major. I would definitely recommend this Steamer/Blender, I wish this was available when my children were babies this would have made life a whole lot easier. This is a great gadget and a boon to both working/nonworking mums and nans.
I’m a big fan of this machine. It’s such a boon for all mothers who want their babies to enjoy fresh food and get the taste of veggies and fruits at an early age. The jar is big enough to prepare 6-7 meals. It can steam virtually anything including meat. I’d would have liked it to accommodate more water for steaming so I can process large batches without running out of water, but that’s not such a big problem as I can always fill it during the steaming process. It has an auto-turn off (with a beep) when the steamer runs out of water.
Once food is steamed, you may want to remove excess water before blending.
It makes such smooth purees, my son loves them and he surprises a lot of people by his taste for wide variety of vegetables at 7 months! All thanks to this product.
I would give it 4 and a half .. only because the pot itself has very sharp edges.. i have cut my hand several times when cleaning.. but now i am used to it so am extra careful. The white lid sometimes catches the colour of food items (e.g. carrot) which doesn’t go away. I expected more from Philips. The product itself it brilliant.. and a time saver. I am a strong advocate of freshly cooked (home cooked) baby food but juggling with 10 tasks at a time (like school run etc.) makes things little difficult.
I read a lot of reviews on this product and wasn’t sure whether to buy it or not.. but i am very happy with it. I only wish amazon would have price matched other places where this product comes on offer at certain times.. and even sold for as less as 50
Works great. Doesn’t have a timer so be sure to use one on side. Do not steam more than 20 mins on full water resevoire. Times of steaming and water levels are marked accordingly on the side of the cup. Sometimes we had to spill out the excess of liquid after steaming because the baby food would get to watery. I am just saying this as a tip. The device works as advertised. When the device keeps turning off and beeping, clean the water tank with citric acid as instructed. This beeping is not in the troubleshooting so keep it in mind.
Firstly, I’d like to say to all people thinking of buying this product – do it!
This is a high quality, great value product which steams and blends perfectly, retaining all the flavour and aroma of the ingredients. You can have so much fun trying different combinations and be safe in the knowledge that your baby is getting exactly what you want him/her to eat. Also, you easily recoup the price tag over the months as you no longer have to buy expensive baby food in jars. Being able to control the level of pureeing is also handy, as is the lack of washing up. No need to prepare food in different containers, this does it all.
There have been a few reviews with people moaning about the noise and smell that it produces… Regarding the smell, they must have been using the blender for far longer than the 30 second recommended maximum blending time, and as for the noise? It makes the same amount of noise as a regular food processor, which is not very much at all. They must live in a silent house or have very highly strung babies if this is a problem for them.
Me and my husband decided to buy this product a few months ago because it seemed relatively easier to use, compared to other appliances in the market for preparing semi-solids. We were attracted by the feature to use the same jug for both steaming and blending. The product has mostly lived up to our expectations, and we have used it pretty much everyday, even travelled with it. The only reason we won’t rate it all five stars is because the beeper for the steamer stopped working within days. This is inline with our experience of most of our Philips products – great design, but medium quality. However, as long as it works, and delivers on it’s core features, it continues to be an indispensable part of our cooking, well at least for a few more months anyway.
This is a great and convenient product. Very practical. Sadly the cleaning of the product is not so smart. In particular the steamer lid. Food seemingly colours the material of the blender to the point it has stained. In addition the body of the blade holder (again the same plastic) has gone grubby in appearance. I can’t help but blame it on the make-up of the material. Doesn’t lend itself to be cleaned to appear as new. Bearing in mind, I’ve only been using the steamer these past three weeks and I’ve tried really hard to clean the stain and grubby marks off.
Fantastic product for making your own organic baby food. I did a lot of research and didn’t want to spend a lot on a product I would use for months but this processor can be used for toddlers as well to steam veggies or to make smoothies, and cook sauces and food in even shorter time. I thought its capacity was small but it’s not bad, you can make a large quantity and cook in small batches later when their food intake increases. Also the reduced price makes it worth it and with a good brand like avent it will last, powerful motor. It’s also easy to use, easy to clean, and doesn’t take u much space or of your time.
This is one of my best buys. I have been able to make fresh food daily for my baby. Sometimes I use it more than once a day because it’s quick and easy to make and clean. Basically you chop up your fruit/veg and place it into the jug. There is a maximum level line. Then close the lid and put it on the main steamer. You get a measuring beaker for the water that is needed. Switch the dial to the left and it steams. You can completely forget about it. Once it’s done it beeps. Switch it off then turn the jug up side down, switch the dial to the right and it pures. You get a table in the guide that tells you how much water each food will take to steam such as carrots take 15mins, apples take 5mins. The water beaker is marked in 5mins, 10mins etc as well as the ml measurement. I mix different fruit/veg with the same timing on some occasions. Also after steaming I may add more water into the jug by taking off the lid to achieve the consistency my baby likes. I would highly recommend this product for weaning because it makes preparation quick and easy.
I use this to make ally baby food. It is so simple and much easier to clean than pots AND a blender.
You simply put the good in, use the guide it comes with for cooking times, pour in the water and that’s it. Once it beeps, flip it over and blend for perfect baby food every time.
I make a jug full and then freeze.
It’s small enough to fit in a suitcase, so it goes on all our holidays. I buy fruit, meat and veg, prepare it in the room and I have enough for the week!
Unfortunately I dropped and broke part of mine, so it now only steams – but not a problem as my baby is 10 months so mashing is fine. They do make replacement parts, but I think they ‘re expensive.
I will definitely be buying another one for baby number two.
This has been one of the best “gadgets” we have bought. We use it to make batches of baby food which we the freeze in ice-cube trays and combine to make meals with plenty of variety. It means you have total control over the ingredients in your childs meals and know exactly how good the food is that you’re feeding them.
It’s simplicity to use. Prepare your food, fill the water compartment with the right amount of water, attache the steaming vessel (the right way up) and switch it on. When the cooking is done it beeps and all you need to do is flip the steaming vessel over and it becomes a blender. With a super-sharp blade and a powerful motor it will turn most cooked foods into a very find puree if you want it to. Blend for a shorter period of time for a chunkier consistency.
It comes apart easily for washing and is even dishwasher safe, although we tend to wash it by hand because we use it for a couple of hours to make the next batch and then put it away again.
I honestly can;t think of any down-sides to this. There are other models available from other manufacturers, but the all-in-one approach of the Avent machine makes things really compact, simple to use and easy to clean. Very highly recommended.
One thing we have also learned is that if you are going to freeze food into portion sizes, silicone ice cube trays work best as it’s tricky to get frozen food out of the traditional plastic ones.
I’ve come to trust Philips since I needed baby products, and it’s pretty much what you need when they start weaning. It’s simple and easy (only 2 function buttons + power), so no unnecessary gadgets, gets the job done. The combination steamer/blender is the main attraction, and means you have less washing to do (not to mention that it was a treat at half-price).
There’s so much fuss (and I am a fussy mother) and truth about steaming (baby) food being better as it retains more of the vitamins, etc…and because you’re not supposed to season baby food, the health factor is well respected.
Appearance-wise, it’s sturdy and does not take up too much space, if that’s a concern. It does allow for substantial baby capacity, although you obviously have to cut food into pieces (a full charge may make up to 5 portions). The usual precautions are well detailed in the instructions (do read), and the only things it does not seem to process are rice and pasta (a shame though). The steaming time (max. 20 mn) depends on the quantity and category of food (put more rather than less water). The blender is quite powerful; the question is what to do with it once your baby steps up to bigger bits or eats normally? Ah well, we’ll see…at worse, it will certainly not be the only piece of cookware piling up my kitchen… Improvement: if only it could make soups…
PS: some of the parts stain due to all the orangy-greeny-purplely food, at least rinse straight after use!
I must admit, I was skeptical…
Come on, it’s a steamer (which I have) and a blender (which I also have) put together. Bought it for my, back then 4 months baby girl, who was about to discover the tastes of the world. Used it less than a week to, surprisingly, discover it’s a clever piece of irreplaceable convenience – takes very little space, makes food as your baby needs it, relatively easy to wash (and you wash it a lot) and is a real time saver!
no need to compliment AVENT on their built quality and design – this device is up to their already high standards and see no faults whatsoever, after using it for over 3 months now
piece of advice – do disassemble the steaming base and wash it from first use on – delaying this or saving yourself a minute could result in a stained base (not in the visible parts), which would do no harm but might bug your perfectionist’s mind, if any
overall, a must have and a definite reco!
price is reasonable and i regret not a dime of it
and last but not least, REMEMBER: babies eat REAL food and they DON’T have to LIKE it, but they DO have to TRY it 😉
the avent combined steamer and blender is a great door-opener for the new world of tastes
I love this product. It’s one of the best gadgets I bought for my baby girl, I’m so glad I spent the money. Yes it’s a bit pricey but not as much as other similar products and it’s really all you need: steaming and blending. I think weaning is hard enough and this will totally make your life easier. Obviously you can make all your food on the stove top but with this product you just chop and steam. When I first started introducing foods to my daughter, I loved the fact that I could make them well ahead of time and not have to worry about ‘watching the pot’ as it has an auto shut off. Then I would blend and leave it to cool down. As she’s gotten older, I still use it to steam vege for her and if she’s teething, I make applesauce or other purees that are soft for her to eat. I even use for family meals because you can make enough for 4. I do not agree with the reviewers that say it doesn’t hold much. It holds plenty and I can definitely get 2-3 servings out of it for my girl. Yes if you want to make a month’s supply at once it’s not going to do that, but if you make a bit extra every evening for a week, you will soon have a full freezer. This product is great when combined with Philips storage pots, it really will change your life in terms of feeding your kid. I totally believe this product helped me feed my daughter a variety of healthy foods and she now loves all her fruit and vege!
I found the gadget very useful. Easy to cook, easy to clean, easy to use in general. And pretty compact comparing w/ a normal steamer and/or a normal blender. I recommend it to everybody. It saves precious time to whoever takes care of the baby.
The bad thing about it in my case is that the sample I received had one bug. The blender unlock was not working properly, it looks like a manufacturing defect. And since I’ve ordered it from UK and I live in Romania, I have no warranty. But I’ve easily patched it, but forcing it to always unlock the steamer function (anyhow the steamer is working only when you keep the button switched, so I don’t even know why they have that unlock). This is the only bad thing I can say about the product, except this everything is great.
I first saw this device at a friens, who spoke very highly of it. He said it was very convenient to have only one device that could prepair his sons food so quickly and easily. I checked it out and read some negative reviews, which made me hesitate to buy it immediately. I checked out a few similar steamer/blenders from other brands in the local market, which were all of pretty bad quality compared to the Avent. So I decided to go ahead and buy it putting my trust in Philips.
After checking out the build quality, I really cant understand how somebody could find it bad. It is very sturdy and well built, and does what it says quite nicely. You dont need to dirty a bunch of containers and mixer to prepare a single baby meal, which is great.
I am very happy with it and glad I got it.
The delivery was super fast, took only a few days to get to my door (in Athens!!!)
Disclaimer: I bought this on sale (about 50% off) through Amazon, but after having it for 4 weeks of weaning, I would happily have paid full price!
My friend recommended this and I have to say, it’s fantastic. I started out doing one type of food at a time but am now making chicken, potatoes and broccoli all at once for lunch or dinner. I also use it just as a blender for food I’ve cooked on the hob.
There’s only one blade, so no option to make food smoother or chunkier, but you can do this by using more or less liquid as you need. Meat is never fully creamed, like in baby food packets or pots, but they are very fine bits that my daughter didn’t have any problem taking. I also steam some fresh food, then pop in some previously frozen cubes to thaw before blending them all together.
It’s also easy to take apart and clean. To give you an idea, it take 20 minutes to steam chicken or potatoes. So with 5 minutes to peel and chop, 20 min to steam, 3 min to puree and 3 min to clean, I have enough for 2-3 meals made up in just over half an hour.
Of course orange food has stained the strainer and white cap (it’s on the bottom in the main product picture) easily, but it’s not visible from the outside and to be honest, I don’t think we have one spoon that’s not stained either, so I guess it’s to be expected!
I’ve been telling all the mums in my antenatal about this – I really do recommend it!
What an amazing product! This product deserves 10/10!!
Please don’t hesitate to buy this product for weaning your baby. It has saved me so much time preparing meals. I don’t need to buy a separate steamer and blender to make my meals and the maximum time you have to wait for food to be cooked is up to 20 mins depending on the type of food you’re cooking.
I understand that there are negative comments about this product and I do respect their personal experiences with it, however please don’t let these negative comments put you off!!
Yes, some foods will stain the inside of the lid – but that happens with lots of other kitchen utensils I use. Yes, you have to wash it after every meal you prepare. – but you have to do this with every other thing you cook with! Yes, you can only make a small amount of food – you’re only cooking for a baby! Each jug will contain about 7 days worth of meals! Yes, the motor isn’t strong. – again, you are only making food for your baby and as long as you read the instructions, you will not burn out the motor as you need you to blend in up to 10 second burst until you reach your ideal consistency.
The main thing with this product is that you can steam and blend all your food in one which saves time and money. The end result is a very contented happy baby who has enjoyed his dinner make with fresh produce. – PERFECT!
There are so many products on the market for mums and babies now, the choice can be overwhelming.I was looking for something that would help my daughter prepare healthy food for her 6 month old baby that she would find quick and easy. She was initially boiling and microwaving then blending and generally making a mess with lots of pots and pans. I had never seen one of these before, but read the reviews and thought it sounded just the job. It arrived within 2 days and we tried it out immediately. Well, we were both so impressed! It steams without filling the kitchen with steam. There is no water to empty – as long as you put the right volume in to start with, the water all converts to steam. Then simply turn it the other way and blend to the consistency you want. We tried apples, carrots, potatoes, different fruits, broccoli and all worked perfectly. Isaac [baby] was impressed also. It does not create a mountain of washing up because everything is confined to one container and you can make enough to freeze for extra meals. What a good buy. She loves it. It is also small [about the size of a medium thermos] and sits nicely on a worktop. It might be a bit pricey but to my mind it is worth the money.
Update on this review 1 month in: This equipment is described by my daughted now as a ‘must have’. She puts everything in: fish, chicken, vegetables and gives it all a 20 minute steam then simply blends. Isaac loves the food and she buys nothing ready made or in jars for him. She says it so easy and it’s easy to clean. What a splendid piece of apparatus. Ready made baby food is expensive so this gadget must pay for itself in no time at all.
This steamer/blender does exactly what had hoped. It is small for storing, but very efficient and quick at steaming and blending. You can’t do large quantities at once, which I like to do and then freeze them in ice cube trays, so I just steam food in more than one batch and as it only takes 15 or 20 mins to steam, it is still quick to do. The blending is good, a bit noisy but it is quick and efficient. I would have liked another setting to create slightly lumpier foods as well as smooth foods, as the older the babies get, the lumpier their foods should be, which doesn’t seem possible with this machine.
Overall though I have used it continuously since my baby started eating food 3 months ago, have a large stock in the freezer of foods and also take it with me when I go away (we travel in the car, not by plane) so I can make food when away.
There is no reason to buy pots of baby food as this machine makes it so quick and easy to make home-made baby food and luckily my baby loves everything I have made so far.
I bought this after reading the many good reviews on Amazon. When I first started using it I was really pleased with it, thinking the guy who designed this must be a genius. It is simple to use and the fact that it steams and blends in the same pot is brilliant. Do remember to turn off the steamer as soon as it beeps as I had failed to do this last week and the steamer function was burnt out and dead. I have had this for about two months and i think it is great for what it’s designed for, however the cons for me are that it does deal with only small quantities, the blender is really noisy, and it is not the most straightforward to clean: the lid needs to be taken apart and the blade bit can get puree lingering in the middle of the tube. As i am blending more quantities, more varieties, and more often the cons are starting to bother me so since the steamer went I have been thinking that maybe I will now buy a more powerful, quieter blender which can still be used for soups, smoothies, etc in future when i don’t use it for purees anymore.
I had pondered over buying this gadget for several months as it is quite costly but I’m glad I did – it was very much worth it! Really simple to use, following the guide to tell you how much water and how long to steam it works perfectly. Take care with turning the unit over for blending though as I found sometimes some hot water drips out and can burn. Blends REALLY well – the number of times blended depends on the consistency you want. Easy to clean just take care of the blades they are very sharp. Only downsides I can think of is that once baby starts eating larger portions the amount of food you can put in the unit may not be enough and you may have to take longer making food. But other than that this gadget will save me loads of money making my son fresh food instead of expensive less healthy food in jars!
I bought this item here because that was the best value found on the web at the time.
The brand is reliable and several reviews about this item helped to choose this.
If you have a baby, beginning giving solid food is so easy with this device. wash the vegetables, dice them, put them in it, steam cook and blend them and it’s easy to serve. No need to monitor it, it switches off automatically and the food is really great. Our baby loves it. It works for desserts too: apples and pear compotes are delicious and baby keep asking them. It took one week for weaning him thanks this device. It’s easy to wash, easy to use, easy to store, time efficient, no waste of food during preparation: simply brilliant.
It’s so convenient that my wife uses it sometimes to prepare our own food when small quantities are needed. A good value for money.
I bought it when my child was 6 months and now is 9 months. It’s the perfect tool for a mom. It’s small, compact, easy to use: just put the food inside (by the way, I don’t cut it in such small pieces as they say, and it still works perfectly), let it steam for the required amount of time (no more than 20min), reverse the jar and then blend the food. If you want the food a bit thick, throw away a bit of the water first.
Just one jar to wash, you don’t have to regularly check if the food is ready or not (as you would do, if boiling it on the oven).
And you can blend in different ways for each stage of weaning (unlike what one of the customer said). you just have to stop from blending when you achieve the desired consistency ;). that’s the whole idea – to be easy to handle, not to have lots of buttons, options etc. It’s the perfect solution for fresh meal every day ( i don’t like the idea to cook a big meal, freeze it and then feed my baby small unfrozen portions the following days – yuck! )
And by the way, I also use it for myself: a nice cup of meshed vegetable soup does wonders – especially when you don’t have the time to prepare something else.
There are other devices like this on the market (e.g. beabe), but i chose this because it’s small and it costs less than them.
Bottom line: I’ve told all my friends with babies to buy one, or something similar – it saves us mothers lots of time. And i’ll use it even when my boy will grow: steamed vegetables, pure, soups …
I can’t begin to express how much I love this machine. It has made weaning so easy. You just choose the food you want to prepare, chop it up, add water and turn it on. Then when it’s done steaming (the machine turns itself off which is handy if you’ve become distracted by your little bundle of joy), you flip the container over, and puree away. Contrary to the description it does NOT have 3 pureeing speeds, but if you want lumpier food you just puree for less time.
All the parts (except the motor, obviously) can be washed in the dishwasher, but there’s only a few parts to clean so I find it easy to do by hand.
It comes with a handy recipe book which has some nice ideas. The instruction manual also has a table of suggested steaming times for a range of fruit/vegetables/proteins, which takes the guesswork out. You then just add the right amount of water: e.g. 100ml for 10 mins, 150ml for 15 mins and so on. You don’t have to do just one type of food at a time, for example, there’s a recipe for baby bolognaise where you put the meat and veg in all at once, steam, then puree.
As others have said, the machine is not huge, but I find it sufficient. To give you an example, I fill it to the “max” line with apples, and find that gives me about 14 x 30ml ice cubes worth. I don’t have a huge freezer so that’s more than enough. I started using the machine a couple of weeks before we started weaning so by the time my baby was ready I already had a freezer drawer full of cubes of different fruit and veg, which I now mix and match each day to give her a varied diet (I use freezer bags to store cubes to avoid having to buy loads of ice cube trays and save space).
You can use the machine for fruit, veg, fish and meat. You can also use it as a steamer only, or to puree only, which makes it very versatile.
It really makes the whole steaming/pureeing process so simple: no hassling with pans and separate blenders. Also steaming is much healthier than boiling, apparently, because more nutrients in the food are preserved. I really like the fact that I know all my baby’s food is homemade with no additives and (for the most part) organic.
My only slight criticism is that the puree function is quite loud. That means it’s hard to use when the baby is asleep, and if I use it when she’s in the room it terrifies her and she starts crying so I can’t do that either. I work around this by popping her in another room with a toy for the 30 seconds or so it takes to puree.
After watching many other mums I know struggle with weaning, I’m so glad I have this machine. I recommend it to others as a way of simplifying the whole process. And of course you can use it after weaning is done – I’ve already used it to make creamed spinach for the adults in the family!
This steamer and blender is fantastic! It is so quick and easy to make healthy tasty food that I’ve stopped bothering freezing portions. I even take it on holiday with me. I wish I’d had it for my first child and although it can only make child sized portions I think I’ll continue to use it for making apple sauce for pork chops and veg portions for the kids as they grow up etc so I think it is well worth the money. I live in an area with hard water so I use filtered water in the steamer compartment so not sure how it copes with unfiltered water. It comes with a small recipe book which is great for getting you started. Only minor complaint is that the steamer part is difficult to clean really well. Also, it is difficult to get the green part off to clean and I often break a nail in the process but a broken nail is a small price to pay for such a great product. Buy it!
I bought this item because I wanted a small steamer and a blender. I didn’t think in the time that such gadget as this one existed so when I saw it I was very happy to know that someone came up with such a brilliant idea.
Goods:
1. Although the reviews say that is not enough for a lot of food, yesterday I may a Bolognese for 2 adults and the amount of food was enough for 3. So, the size is good. I don’t have a baby but I believe that if you need to make few different meals, it is easy to make food for 3/4 days in a morning.
2. Quiet and efficient. It does everything by itself. In fact, a good example is the video on amazon, it is really what happens when you use this gadget. So you can do different things while the food is steaming
3. Easy to store. All part will fit inside the jar (excluding a lovely spatula that comes with it)
4. Very very very very healthy. Not so much about this machine but steamers in general. Everyone needs a healthy kitchen and this gadget helped me a lot having a healthier life without any effort
Bads:
1. Only 1 bad, make sure you don’t put more food then the maximum when blending. I had a really hard time cleaning all water that came out from the hole that has in the middle and the food will be everywhere. Saying that, the machine has a maximum limit for something.
2. A bit pricy, but there is no other gadget like this one and after using it I can say: Worth every single penny!
This is one of the best buys I’ve made so far in Amazon. Though its pricy I was convinced after reading its reviews. I have been using it for the past month. Its an excellent product – compact, smooth, easy to clean and not in the least bit messy. I use it just as a blender for fruits and steamer/blender (for veggies) and now can’t imagine having to make veggies the traditional way i.e steaming in a separate container and then blending. And having an exclusive blender just for the baby makes it so easy, otherwise I would have to spend too much time making sure (cleaning) the family blender was absolutely free of spices etc before using baby food on it. My son is 7 months old now and I plan on using this for him for as long as possible. After that too, I guess it will be useful for making stuff like soup for adults.
One last word. Whoever designed it is ingenious. Using the same container for steaming and blending is ingenious and all the parts can be packed compactly including the measuring cup!
This is worth every penny of its asking price as its just so brilliantly simple to use and the results are superb. It reduces the washing up, reduces the energy used during cooking and purees like a dream. Its even clever enough to bleep when its done cooking and stops the steaming action by reading how much water is in its reservoir. Then just flip it over, blend and serve or store.
As I’m writing this our daughter has just eaten a haddock pea and potato puree which we calculated to have cost 17.5 pence per portion but not including the energy costs for a 15 minute steam (8 portions from the jug being filled to the max mark).
If we take this calculation its simplest form and multiply it across a 31 day month of three meals per day = 16.27.
In comparison a very good organic baby food @ 80 pence per serving give or take a bit of left overs say 2.00 per day = 62 per month.
Kerching!!
If that doesn’t convince you then watch the video of the product on Amazon as for once a product video actually shows how a brilliant and easy a product really is.
Simple, compact and brilliant.
We bought this product when we started weaning our son. We wanted to limit the amount of prepared meals and we have found that it is super simple and quite quick. We used a book (Top 100 Baby Purees: 100 quick and easy meals for a healthy and happy baby by Annabel Karmel – which is great) and we love it. The little one not only loves the food, but we know that the ingredients are fresh.
We normally make enough for about 12 pots, which we freeze and then we can mix and match. This introduces the little one to different flavours and flavour combinations. The only fruit we have struggled with is the avocado as it needs to be completely ripe and this is quite hard to find in the UK (and if you buy them raw and let the ripe, they tend to go bad in some parts before other parts are ripe).
Then, our kitchen was getting clogged up with appliances (Espresso machine, blender, juicer, toaster, steriliser etc.), so we did not want another space absorbing appliance. We found that the machine is actually quite small and it can easily put into a corner.
Finally, it is super easy to clean. We found it to be a breeze (much easier than out Braun food processor).
So we would recommend it to anyone.
