I have purchased the top models of the other two most well known makes and they are nowhere near as good as the Philips 9000. The Philips shaver gives a much faster , closer shave than the other two makes . I am very satisfied with my purchase .

Got used to using it by the second shave. Coloured pressure feedback system works very well. I mostly use it wet – with shaving gel and hot water – but works OK as a dry shaver too. Cleans in a few moments but I only clean it every 3-4 shaves as it’s usually been rinsed a lot. The heads have a fairly large shaving area (compared to my old Phillips razor) but this simply means you can shave very quickly indeed if need be.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI didn’t expect to rave about something but this shaver is terrific. It’s wonderful to get such a close shave in such a short time. Even areas such as under nose and between lips and chin are a doddle. The LED lights tell how hard or not to shave so you don’t have to guess and you can apply the right pressure knowing you will get a perfect shave.

And using the cleaning fluid under control of the app keeps the shaver spotless – no accumulation of hair and skin under the blades.

An expensive shaver but well worth i

Significant improvements on my previous 9000 model. More comfortable to use.
The 3 colours pressure lights are helpful. Feels more powerful. System indicators very clear

    Dislike:
Little awkward to get right up under the nose, and use a razor to get the tiny bit of hair that this can miss.

    Likes:
Fantastically smooth shave. I use it for my face and head, and whilst it can’t do what a wet shave razor can it comes so close and is so convenient to use that I’m shaving every day with it now. (I wet shaved using a razor every other day before.)
No more nicks and cuts, it glides over my face and head with no trouble at all. I like the colour changing head to show when you apply the right pressure or not, though this is less useful behind my head when shaving.
The shave lasts a very long time and I charge it infrequently.
You can shave wet with this and I have tried it, but equally the shave is just as good dry so don’t bother wetting my face or head now.
Cleaning is a breeze, open the flip lid and wash it under the tap, close the lid and whilst the shaver is running just let it flow through the blades.
I also use the cleaning station, just so I maintain the shaver at its best.
I cannot recommend this shaver enough, you won’t regret it if you buy it.
Had it for many months now.

Yes very good close shave lots to like came with a good shaving case for a change I think the best shavers about, very small niggle, the cost & the only provide 1p shaver cleaning brush yet you pay top price for this piece of kit & all the previous shavers came with a plastic shaving head guard this didn’t again strange as the cost of this shaver & replacement shaving heads, cost nothing to provide you with piece of plastic to protect them ,but can’t fault what it does right( philips if You read this get these small things right as a top end high price shaver we expect all aspects to be the best not whats left in the accessories bin)

I was looking for an electric shaver and was torn between this and the Braun 9000. I ended up going for the Braun but was a little disappointed with the closeness of the shave, and that it just would not cut longer hairs at all in my neck area. So I decided I’d try this one and am very impressed – the shave feels very close to a blade wet shave. I’ve only had it for a day so far so it’s still early days, but so far I’m loving it.

Update – upon reflection I would add that this shaver does require that you apply pressure correctly to get a close shave, and the Braun also gives an equally close shave if the same amount of pressure is applied

I am amazed how good quality this shaver is. I used Phillips electric shavers last 15 years, this is by far the very best they made. Quality comes with the price but it is fair considering what it does. The job it took my old shavers a few minutes that one does with two or three touches to the skin and is quite smooth. I was worried as one review suggested it does not reach all hair on the under the nose, in my experience it is not an issue at all. I am impressed.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe shaver works well for very close work and superior results: a smooth face. However, the accompanying literature shows a massage head as an additional fitting, which was not in the box or referred to as being available. I thought I had bought the top of the range option, yet a prominent component was missing. Why?

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHaving spent a lot of money on this, I was expecting more. If I dry shave it doesnt glide over the skin, its sort of feels like its being dragged over it, with shaving foam its better. The shaving head is huge compared to my old Philips shaver, and that causes a few problems around the neck and under the nose areas where trying to get the thing to shave them is a bit of an annoyance. Its got a light ring that tells you what pressure to shave at and a phone app to show you all the other things, both not really needed and its a preference thing.

The cleaning station is very good, a very clever piece of kit that cleans without the hassle of plugging in something else. The charge station does exactly what its supposed to do without any fuss.

It provides a good shave not a great shave as I still have to get a few stray hairs on my neck with a razor, which sort of defeats its purpose really.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersVery pleased with the product! To receive the same results with other shavers I’ve used I’d have had red raw skin where I have been pushing so hard continuously trying to get a smooth cut….I took my beard off with the trimmer straight out of the box on 10% battery and then then shaved the stubble effortlessly. Really smooth, comfortable result in little time!

I have however had to remove a star due to Amazon, on taking the shaver box out of the delivery box, one side of the shaver box lid was open and the circular sticker on the other side had been cut through…..this makes me feel I have an already opened product passed on to me at full price, with no time to send back, it’s left a bad taste, first time I’ve spent out for an expensive ‘ new ‘ shaver so the lost star is down to this. It doesn’t look to have been used but would have been nice to receive a factory sealed item!

I have tried battery shavers before but never had a good shave. For the past two years I’ve been wet shaving and tried all makes the blades are not made to last, So I bought this shaver and so far it’s great, shaving as close as a wet shave very quick results. Nice to hold thought the lights may be a gimmick but lights green when you use the right pressure works well. All round worth the money

Only thing is around the nose too shave isn’t as easy on this one I think!! But overall I’m happy with shave

I have used Philips shavers for a number of years and this was a replacement (a newer model) for another Philips Shaver Series 9000 that I had had for about 3 years (I had replaced the foils). I was happy with the previous model, but this a step up from my old shaver. I get better results quicker than before. For convenience, I can use the dry shave to get the same result I used to have to use a wet shave, although I still prefer a wet shave. If you use a wet and dry shaver, I think it would be hard to find one better than this one.

I have had Philips shavers all of my adult life and have found rotary shavers to be more sympathetic to my skin. Old razor was approaching the end of its life, so decided to get a new one, expecting the resultant shaving to be the same.
It was not! I cannot recall ever having had as close a shave as this model provides without irritation of the skin.
Really impressed irrespective of the convenient cleaning, which seems to me to be a bonus.
I would recommend to anyone that is familiar with rotary shavers.

I just got this with a great deal on Black Friday. I previously had the S9000 Prestiogem, the old model, which was a great shaver. I could stuck with it and replaced the cutters, I last changed them 2 years ago. But I went for this shaver as the reports were it upped the game. Just had my first shave, and it’s excellent. Was quicker than before and the unit is very nice to hold in the hand. Cleaning was easy with the cleaning stand and my purchase came with 4 cleaning cartridges in total. These shavers are not cheap, but they last well and the battery life is excellent and above all, they shave very well. I have thick even, dark stubble and it cuts through it nicely.

I couldn’t justify upgrading mine which is previous model, with this one. Why?
    1) the previous model is quiter and has rotation speed adjustment
    2) I prefer the round shaving heads on previous model
    3) the light sensor on this model will switch off if you press it too much on your skin, and once off, you cannot get the it back unless you fiddle a bit with the multi button. Again, I disagree with previous reviers as you don’t need app to disable the light as the button on the shaver can do it.

Also I disagree with previous reviwer who claimed it is impossible to get a clean shave over lips and neck. This claim is not true. This shaver gives you a very clean shave everywhere on the face and neck. You just have to press it on the skin.

The concept is sound but heads are very large making it awkward to use on some parts of the face. It is designed for large hands I think and takes some time to get used to after using an earlier 9000 series shaver. The cut has improved though and I hope that I will get used to the increased size . If you have large hands( I don’t) this could be just the tool for you.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersHaving owned and used the previous 9000 series and the Prestige model, I thought I’d treat myself to the latest model especially as the price was significantly reduced, (58% off).

The 9000 series gives a good clean and close shave and outstrips its predecessors. The prestige ‘looks’ great but is let down by too much plastic a tinny sounding motor and LED display that failed after a few months.

This latest model looks and feels like a complete top to bottom re-build. The motor gives a much more reassuring noise and feels more powerful. The shaver is far more robust and feels better in the hand.

It produces a much closer shave than all preceding models by far and achieves a ‘baby bottom smooth’ finish with two passes. The older models never quite produced the smoothness of my double-edged safety razors without applying pressure, especially under the chin. The new model was a delight to use and achieved astounding results all over including the difficult area under the chin, and in my opinion, as good as a blade.

The cleaning system too has received a long over-due re-haul, gone is the bulky lump of black plastic requiring mains power. Instead, there is now a much smaller unit which uses the power of the shaver to clean, far more efficient!

So far, I’m thrilled to bits with this bit of kit, my only miff is that there is no wireless charging as with the prestige, that would have made this shaver perfect.

Used the 9000 series and Braun series 9. This is outstanding. The stand alone cleaning station so simple and last much longer than Braun alcohol based one. This is a quiet shaver and the colour LED is great. Genuinely best shave. Highly recommended from someone with sensitive skin and course hair.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMy old Philishave died after 18 years of service. Battery was still going strong, but part o f the head failed and is no longer available.
This new one is pretty expensive, but my wife reasoned that since it’s used every day I’m worth it !
The shape of it in one’s hand takes some getting used to after the old one, but I’ve got the hang of it now. The old one and the cheaper models in the range now, are a smoother more ergonomic fit in the hand. The new one is angular and less comfortable. The head is much larger now, which feels good and speeds up the process a bit. Also getting a better, closer shave. Likely to be due to a new set of blades etc, but feels easier getting there.
Pressure indicator lights are interesting but not essential. Bluetooth pairing to my phone .?.. not done that. Haven’t used the hair shaving attachment either.
The cleaning pot is OK though and cleaning overall is much easier in this one than my old one. Nothing falls off or out when I pop the head open, which is nice.
The only other downside, and main reason I knocked off a star is that it’s rather noisy. Much more so than my old one, which was surprising, especially given the cost.
Overall, if you can bear the slightly eye watering cost, I’d definitely recommend it.

No effort required with shaving. It’s quiet and deals with my 2 day stubble no problem. Definitely the best shaver I’ve ever had. I thought the light system for indicating the pressure was a gimmick but it’s not, it’s really helpful and makes my shaving effortless. I’m really pleased with it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve been using Philips 3-headed electric shavers for the last 40 years. The new Series 9000 is a major step forward for the Philips 3 headed shaver. Shaving with foam, the closeness and comfort matches, or even exceeds that of a traditional wet shave, without the cuts of course. The new cleaning system is a huge boost and very effective. The cleaning system is a real step forward and not simply something invented for continuous consumables sales. So I’m very happy with this new Series 9000 – finally Philips have produced a 3 headed shaver with outstanding performance and simultaneously solved the cleaning problem. Well done to the R&D department at Philips, this new Series 9000 could be the last word in shaving. They have finally cracked it. Also does a good job on the exterior of the pinna, which is handy for us blokes-of-a-certain age. I now look forward to shaving. The pressure sensor and guided shave system is very handy to reduce skin irritation. The result is ‘smooth as a baby’s bottom’. 10/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars As close as a traditional wet shave, low irritation & excellent new cleaning system 10/10

My 30 year old Philips shaver finally stopped working and was at the time of production their best – so I decided to spend a lot on one of their top models again
Truly, the screen animations, coloured lights, extra trimmer attachment and cleaning system seem to me overkill for an already excellent product
It is a refined product yet does not feel quite as robust as the old one
Cleaning the heads is easy but the old unit still gave over 2 hours battery life and this one only 4 or five shaves before requiring recharge
The extra large head plates are good but the old system seems better – you can shave up to the hairline more accurately with the old closer together heads and the little oblong head opener button sticks out a little too much
But still an excellent shaver as soon as you get used to using i

I bought this to replace my previous Philishave which is decades old. I only selected this model as it was at a great discount. It is still expensive due to the touch-sensitive screen, flashing LEDs and complex cleaning system.

It works very well, with different coloured LED lighting to show the shaving pressure as too light, just right or too hard. I used the touch sensitive screen buttons to just show too heavy pressure. Cleaning is easy: just flip the cutters and brush clean with the supplied brush. The screen also advises the occasional use of the fancy cleaner device containing expensive cleaning solution cartridges. Unlike my previous Philishave, the shaver supplies the power. Just place the shaver, upside down, in the container and push the power button. The cleaning cycle is automatically controlled by the shaver.

The shaver has a beard clipper that replaces the shaver head and has an in-built sideburn trimmer.

The shaving performance is better than the previous shaver ever was. If I could be sure that the other Philishave models were as good at shaving, I would have saved my money.

Its all round brilliant theres light emited it glows green when you are using the right amount of pressure to achieve the best shave blue when not enough and red when too much pressure and the self cleaning module looks after the blades. There’s even an app for your phone that has all kinds of tips on how to get the best from your razor.
Needless to say I am very happy with my purchase.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersThis arrived to replace my previous S9000 (the blue one not the Prestige). The blades needed replacing on that, and after 4 years the battery wasn’t lasting very long so I opted to upgrade.

I had my first shave yesterday (about 3 days growth) so I write this after just one shave. First impressions:

It cut through the hair on my cheeks faster than any previous Philips. Very close and very quick with minimal effort. It is a very different shaving experience to the previous model. This one is louder and feels much larger. I could hear the hair being cut on the last one but not so with this.

I found the neck areas more tricky to get very close with this but some of that will be down to me honing my technique. Under the nose was also very difficult to reach as this has a large shaving head.

The coloured feedback to assess your shaving pressure is a bit of a gymic if you ask me. I’m sure a scientist will tell me I’m wrong, but I know my face and have been shaving for over 25 years so I can figure that out, but if you’re a techy then it’s another thing to enjoy.

Philips relocated the beard trimmer to an integrated unit which pops up from the back. This still feels like an after thought. I really wish Philips would invest some R&D into this because it’s awful. You can’t get a decent edge on a sideburn. The beard trimmer on my Panasonic was fantastic and for such an expensive unit, this isn’t really acceptable from Philips. It doesn’t fix into position either so it will just start to fold back in if you use it at the wrong angle.

There is a new cleaning unit which is powered by the shaver itself, meaning you can’t charge it in the cleaning unit if it has no battery. There is a second stand that came with it that will charge your unit. I only used the 60 second clean and the shaving heads still had shaving cream in them. Hoping there is a more thorough cleaning option.

From a shaving point of view, I find Philips’ offerings to be the best. I’ve tried other premium shavers from alternative brands but find these offer the best shave in the context of comfort and closeness. They aren’t as loud as others so you wont disturb other people in the vicinity as much. It’s a much more efficient shave than previous models and at the Black Friday price this was a very good deal.

Philips just need to get their house in order and give us a decent beard trimmer – I’ve had to keep my Panasonic going just for this purpose.

UPDATE: I had shave number two today and I managed to get a very close shave across my entire neck and face including under the nose. This is the closest shave I’ve ever had from an electric shaver. I started wet shaving for a few months in the summer and there really isn’t much difference between wet shaving and this Philips.

I maintain my comment about the beard trimmer unit though. I cannot get a clean and straight edge on sideburns. I have retained my old Panasonic just for that. Come on Philips – raise your beard trimmer game.

    Brilliant shaver though!
