Works perfectly with OBS and has zero delay using passthrough. Easy to setup so beginner friendly.

When I read the reviews I was a bit surprised to see why the Ripsaw had so many negatives. It’s been brilliant so far for me, the sound is good, the picture quality is great and the additional headphone and mic jacks are super useful. I don’t have a super powerful pc and was worried at first that this won’t work, but it’s been brilliant so far, very happy with the purchase. If you’re a console gamer and want to stream and record gameplay this fits in really well.

I bought this to help record my gameplay for youtube and stream using OBS and this has been a blessing. So easy to set up and use. It is a must have for people who want to use something other than Elgato

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI got this capture card as a backup having been incredibly happy with the one I’d already got, as someone who has spent years recording content. I found in the end that not only was this a very competent card, it’s also better than the more expensive one I’d had prior.

If you can get over the fact that this is a 1080p60 capture card and cannot record therefore in 4k, and the fact that it doesn’t come with its own recording software (alternatives such as OBS are available, OBS Studio being free and ideal for anyone looking to livestream or record), this is a fantastic piece of software. For my own needs recording Nintendo content, this is ideal. For a newcomer hobbyist on a budget who just wants to get started streaming on Twitch or uploading small clips to YouTube, this is great for the price.

Have had no issues in the few months I’ve been using it, in terms of size it’s small enough and light enough where you don’t have to worry (unlike older capture cards) about finding a giant dedicated space for it. Setup is plug and play, it comes with an HDMI cable (albeit not a long one) so no need for an additional one unless your PC is a significant distance away from the recording setup.

Overall it’s not going to come with tonnes of dedicated software, but for a newcomer you don’t need that. It’s not going to give you 4k recordings or streams, but again you don’t need that especially when streaming as many can’t view such high quality live. For a plug and play HD Capture Card, you get exactly what you need without the complicated extras.

Footage attached is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo Switch), recording software is OBS Studio on default “Optimise just for recording” auto-setup. No other colour corrections or changes post-production. File size: 387MB.

Initially needed something for converting VHS to the computer so had this coupled with a cheap digital converter and it did the job amazingly using OBS to record the VHS to the computer. Have since started streaming using this now. Awesome bit of kit.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs expected from Razer, good build quality, albeit plastic made. The only problem is audio data sent through this device is not good as the picture. Okay, I thought , maybe the HDMI cable wasn’t good enough to pass decent audio quality, so I changed the cable twice and still same issue.. It could be the unit itself, but my experience with audio wasn’t as expected, but still good product though..

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAmazon removed my review with the most important information to solve the screen flickering because I put my email for people to reach for help….
If you have any screen flickering or something messing with the screen that occures after some time or in same places of the screen its because of the USB port, you are using on USB GEN 2.0 and this is expected to happen.
It needs USB 3.0 to prevent screen flickering, it works with USB GEN 2.0 but to fix this issue on 2.0 you need to replug the video card again and thats the only fix for USB 2.0.
When I had on USB 2.0 the screen flickering was lasting 1m and sometimes doesnt come at all but just go with USB 3.0

Works great. Low latency to the point where I play my switch games without a second monitor I just watch it through stream labs. Easy to use. Really just great all around

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAfter completing all setup, the device works perfectly for capturing my Nintendo Switch gameplay, with a very high quality video and audio input. However, you will need an adequately powered USB 3.0 port to run it! More on that later.

The device is relatively plug-and-play – I plugged the Switch into HDMI in, my monitor into HDMI out, the cable to my USB 3.0, and off I went. The device is detected as a camera within Windows 10, so getting it onto the Camera app, streaming directly as a webcam or putting it into OBS is trivial.

My difficulty came with getting audio. There are plenty of other guides out there, but the simple solution is: you have to add “Razer Ripsaw HD HDMI” as audio to your stream. This is detected as a microphone within Windows.

The problem I had was this didn’t give me audio at all! No sound came through to my stream, but plugging headphones directly into the Ripsaw showed audio was definitely playing. The overall solution: I bought a powered PCI-e USB 3.0 hub for my desktop, so it would have a dedicated power source enabling it. Once that was put in place and the Ripsaw plugged into it, it’s worked perfectly. I write this to save anyone else the frustration – if you aren’t getting the proper audio or video in, ensure you’re giving enough power over USB!

This was frustrating – if there was an option to power the device with a mains plug, I would have taken it – but once set up, the device works without a hitch.

Works great with Razer Blade 15 Advance (2020)

No need for a 2nd monitor, there is no delay on OBS and you can even hear the game through OBS with no delay.

Also works with Streamlabs OBS too

[I recommend you go to nvidia settings to force OBS / Streamlabs OBS to use dedicated graphics on a gaming laptop, by default it uses integrated graphics which causes some lag]

Teenage sons friends have one of these also so that way they both agreed if both playing they get both get the brilliant clear crisp experience. We’ve had this for ages now and kept meaning to review it but forgot as under the rest of console stuff so don’t really see it when there. Not a big box or not that hard to set up. Put it one way give anything game wise to a teenager to try to get it to work and your sorted. The big thing is the price as it doesn’t look anything like worth the cost but once installed and in place doesn’t take up much room next time games consoles etc and you are there. Son says it seems to have not made any difference to the speed of his games if anything slightly better and the results are crisper and clear so if playing action games more definition with the for him he thinks that’s needed to make some games even better to play. A nice to have game addition as son says to me the price is the big issue and would I really want to pay that price maybe for a big gift yes but not just as a nice to have one. The make Razer is a good one I’ve found to be the case as have a few items in the range that seem hard wearing expensive but seem like built to last a time which is important to when buying anything expensive.

So it’s been a while, and I forgot to update this.

I had some issues with my first one, but I did get a second one sent out with no issues and after a little bit of configuration (setting filters etc to off in OBS) everything works perfectly, and has been working perfectly for over a year now.

Good product, and if you get it for under 100, an absolute steal.

    ____________________________________________________
Now I’ll be upfront: I’ve used one of these before, without issue.

I bought this because of that, but when my unit arrived, it isn’t working. No matter which configuration I use, the picture coming through from the card is completely wrong. The passthrough is fine, but the capture video is unusable, as can be seen in the image.

I can only give this a 1/5 just now, we’ll see what happens after a chat with Razer’s support.

    Doesn't necessarily work - UPDATED

I have managed to get this operating on OBS, but be aware when you use this with Kiyo there is sole known Usb3 compatibility issues which need to be ironed out. Essentially down to usb controller issues. But, when this is ironed out the streams are really nice. You can see these on Smetroretro!

Here are my points on this product:
    * It helps if you are technical.
    * It can help you get good video of your gameplay.
    * Nowadays you can get gameplay without video capture devices through Twitch (although the quality may not be as good).
    * Razer products are always well packaged meaning no damage on transit. The box looks great in Razer’s standard bright vivid green and black, and there is always a sheet of shiny, iridescent silver stickers enclosed. The little touches go a long way to creating brand loyalty.

Had a poor experience with an old Elgato HD60 with lag in OBS. Decided to plump for this and it’s awesome. It just works. Using it to record and stream old consoles like the SNES and Megadrive using a scart to HDMI converter plugged into the Ripsaw and its flawless. Worked immediately and great quality. Good stuff.

I use this for capturing screens from my work PC which I can’t install software on due to it being managed.

It’s a simple setup and captures great video in OBS which I then edit in Camtasia.

I’m not a gamer (too left thumbs) but it works great for what I purchased it fo

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe Razer Ripsaw HD is a great way to intercept a gaming feed from your PC or console (or apparently any other HDMI non-HDCP encrypted HDMI HD to 4K source) and either stream it live or record it for later playback – especially for consoles like my Xbox One S which have 4K output – you can still send the full 4K to the TV and have it downsample the 4K to full HD for streaming live or recording offline.

As well as the device producing the video, you will also need another PC to do the recording or streaming. I have a fairly modest Core i5 notebook, and I was easily able to stream or record at 2500Kbps at HD resolution, 60FPS using Razer Synapse and Streamlabs OBS (both free). There may only be a relatively limited range of apps which can see the Razer as a video source, so don’t just assume that you’re going to be able to fish the output into anything.

For those of you who are wondering – no, the Razer isn’t seen as an HDCP device, so don’t imagine you’re going to be able to use it to rip movies or satellite TV. Unless you happen to have your own HDCP stripper inline, of course. Which is of course illegal, so don’t do it.

As for streaming/capture software – the only two officially compatible with the Razer Ripsaw HD right now are Streamlabs OBS (I’m successfully using version 0.18.5) and XSplit (which I don’t personally use).

I have had issues where sometimes I will need to have to re-start OBS and unplug and plug back in the Razer from my PC USB 3.0 port to get the signal to appear in OBS, but apart from that, it’s perfectly fine.

Having the ability to monitor audio straight from the Razer and have mic input plugged straight into it is a really nice feature – you can then use the audio sliders in Synapse to adjust the mic / game mix and alter the master volume too. Really convenient.

So overall, this is a pretty robust solution that – with the addition of just a gaming device, a streaming PC and some free software, can give you your own game streaming channel right out of the box.

I have to say that I’m impressed.

We have a PS4, and an Xbox One. On those consoles it is very easy to stream and upload gaming clips to YouTube, which my son has done quite a bit in the past. We’ve not really done it on our PC though, so I thought this would be a good thing for my son to try out.

Firstly Razer do present their products well – my son has a Razer phone – and the packaging is very nice indeed and creates a good impression. In the box you get your capture card – smaller than I thought it would be – plus an HDMI cable, Type C cable and an audio cable.

The main reason we haven’t really done any capturing on our PC is that it isn’t really a top-end, all powerful machine. We found that our PC really struggled to cope and there was no way we were going to be able to capture full HD video.

Set up was OK, although we did experience a few issues; loads of updates and the PC was really dragging it feet at some points, but we got it to work and uploaded a couple of clips of Fortnite and Roblox.

If you have the patience – and I would say a decent PC – then this could be for you.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe Razer Ripsaw HD works well. It records 60fps at1080p easily, but getting it to do so is a different story. Out of the box it comes with a HDMI cable included, a braided 3.5 male to male headphone jack and braided USB type C to USB 3.0, so that is a good thing to see for the price.

I tried recording with the recommended “xsplit” recording software, which you have to get a subscription for to even record in 1080p to start with! Recording 30fps at 720p works just as well with this (since that’s the non-subscription resolution), but I wasn’t impressed that I wasn’t able to get 1080p without paying extra. I tried OBS studios and with a little bit of tinkering it will work using the capture card and this works perfectly recording 1080p at 60fps and the video is smooth and nice for streaming and YouTube content creators.

If you are just recording for small things I would just use the NVIDIA screen capture or other screen captures, but I do recommend for YouTube’s and streamers.
