Very reasonably priced came within 24 hours. Bought this to make iso back ups. Plugged in no drivers needed working on Windows 11 instantly recognised device. Used imgburn quickly made a cd and worked when tested. Also looks slick and is compact. USB powered supplied with a backup USB cable and a port for devices that don’t have enough power fully through USB. Must have for newer laptops without drives and older ahem myself user who pine for cd or dvd retro gaming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rioddas quick easy works straight out of the box!

These drives are good, i needed one mainly because i have a lot of important back up files burnt to disc including a whole lot of music that i wanted to transfer onto my new laptop, the drive is quiet and has USB3 and it’s plug and play so my laptop picked it up straight away, i haven’t even tried burning any discs, anyway who burns discs now days plus you will need burning software, I’ve played some DVDs and they play perfectly and did i mention its multiregional but there’s a catch, it will only allow you to play different regional discs 5 times before it locks onto a region, but looking at this external drive is a little ugly, especially with the black and the orange stripe but this drive is exceptionally good value for money, all in all if you want a cheap drive that does what it says on the tin, you cant go wrong with this one

I’ve had this a few days and used it several times already, just for playing DVDs on my HP Envy Windows 11 laptop. As other reviews also explain, I had to download VLC from VideoLan because of my Windows 11. But that was easy peasy, and my DVDs play very well. The icons in the VLC menu are a bit small and therefore fiddly, but that’s a VLC issue, not the fault of the Rioddas player. But still, it’s a small negative – but only small, not a problem really. I have given the item 4 stars rather than 5 only because I will only ever use it to play DVDs, not any of the several other fancy things it will do, therefore I can’t know how good it is in other areas. It works fine for my purposes and I am very happy with it. Also I tried it with my slightly ancient Macbook Pro and it worked with that. (My mac has an internal tray to theoretically play DVDs but that stopped working long ago and I was advised to get an external thing instead.) My mac used its own media player to successfully play DVDs with the Riobbas, but I prefer the VLC on my HP Envy Windows 11 laptop. The VLC icons and menu on my HP Envy laptop, despite being a bit small, are better and easier (imo) than my mac’s own media player settings. The Riobbas so far has been perfect, and it accepts and ejects the DVDs fine (when I load the DVD into it, I have to push the tray in manually myself. It doesn’t ‘suck it in’ like big tv-use DVD players do.) I haven’t had to use the little pinhole thing to force eject. All in all, so far it’s great and looks like a robust enough build too.

Drive works. My previous review was incorrect. Turns out it just wasn’t connecting to a device provided by my workplace, due to IT restrictions placed on it by the employer.

I bought this to try and play old PC games made for desktop on my laptop I had from the 90s/00s and after some finagling and downloading an update or two it worked perfectly! You do need two usb outlets on your laptop so just a heads up and the disc makes noises inside the machine but honestly its a nostalgic sound for me but just be aware haha. Deffo recommend for playing games, listening to CDs and watching DVDs but mostly for playing games because so many other external CD/DVD drives don’t let you and this one does!

I ordered this as my PC does not came with a CD DVD drive like many PC are becoming these days.
Just plug it in with the USB cable (which is conveniently clipped away underneath) and it works great out of the box. I am using a USB 3 and it works great with all formats and types: CD, DVD and data disks.
    Great portability too.
    A great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great value external CD DVD playe

My dad finally upgraded his laptop but as with most new ones it didn’t have a DVD drive which he definitely missed. Picked this up for him and it’s done the trick perfectly for him

Works perfectly fine no flaws at all , brought it to play some of my older games on a PC that doesn’t have a disc drive and this really works just how I need it.
    Definitely recommend i

I bought this for my grandparents as their laptop was lacking a cd drive.
It does everything it says on the tin. A must have if you are from the stone age and still use dvds or cds.

Plugged this straight to my laptop, clicked ‘Allow’, and put a CD into the tray. I was able to import a bunch of CDs into Apple Music.

I found a load of compilation CDs in my loft that aren’t available on streaming platforms. This device has warped me back to my childhood as now I am able to listen to all my old tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super nifty and quick

Bought this for a friend who is really quite lacking in computer skills. Was half expecting him to request help with setting it up but was happy to find he managed to just plug it in, and start using it straight away without assistance! Great for the elderly and computer befuddled friends/relatives we have in our lives!

I have an old MacBook Pro with a DVD drive that is now very choosy as to what it play! This external drive have solved that problem for me. It also allows me to ‘burn’ my old 3″ CD singles to my Apple Music library. I’m now able to listen to tracks/ remixes that I haven’t heard in years I would recommend this product.

works fine but the USB lead is far too short if connected to USB 3.0 at rear of machine will not sit on top of machine not sure if an extension will slow down transfer rate?

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersHad some CDs that I wanted to put on my mobile via my laptop which it did without any problems. Easy to connect, read every CD as it should and I can even watch a DVD using this. I miss those days where you just put the dvds in and played your movies without the need to subscribe and pay monthly to several streaming providers as some movies are exclusive to either one or another provider.
Recommended this to my daughters too. Immensely valuable to those people who have a few cds or 100s or 1000s which they like to listen to on the go. Very small package too, just the size of a double cd and that’s everything including cables too. Highly recommend it.

You need to use both leads, one for power and one for data. If your PC doesn’t recognise it download videolan , it only takes a couple of minutes and everything should work fine. Im pleased with it.

Eventually I got this working after turning it over and spotting the additional USB connector tucked into the base. If there had been proper instructions this would have saved quite a bit of frustration with this product, as I had been about to submit a very negative review. Anyway once it is properly connected with both USB leads it works fine.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI am thoroughly impressed with this external DVD-RW USB drive! It has been a game-changer for me, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The plug-and-play functionality makes it incredibly easy to set up, and it has proven to be a reliable and efficient addition to my tech setup.

The drive’s read and write speeds are impressive, ensuring that I can quickly access and burn data to DVDs and CDs without any hassle. It has worked flawlessly with various types of media, including movies, software installations, and data backups. The compact design is a bonus, as it’s easy to transport and doesn’t take up much space on my desk.

This external drive also complements my laptop perfectly, adding the convenience of a DVD drive that is often missing from modern laptops. The build quality feels durable, and it has not let me down in terms of performance. Overall, I highly recommend this external DVD-RW USB drive to anyone in need of a reliable and affordable solution for their optical media needs.

New PCs don’t have DVD slots so needed this to play some of my old DVDs- easy to install and use NOTE you need additional software for area restricted DVDs

As (nearly) always delivery was incredibly fast (next day before 1pm) and the device is as described. Compact, portable, attarcative and functional.
Only used to read CDs so far but worked perfectly – no drivers to install.

Bought this CD/DVD player as my new laptop did not have one. It’s great does the job perfectly. The USB cable is permanently attached so it’s not mislaid, which i love. It’s compact, just slightly bigger than a CD. and up to now is working perfectly. I’ve probably used it about 6 times now. It relies on your computers programs to play and record.

I needed to replace a broken player and chose this one after research. Not had it very long, but it works fine so far, and good value. I like that it provides an extra USB connection in case additional power is required. Not needed in my case but gives peace of mind if buying for an older laptop where the power from one usb socket might not be enough. Essential additional kit to include in a laptop bag, never know when you might need it.

Very easy to set up, just plug and play. Slim and lightweight. I would have given 5 stars but my only minor gripe is the power cord is very short, if it was maybe double its current length then it would be perfect. Aside from this, if you’re looking for a value for money portable drive this is your buy.

Bought a couple of days ago, started using this evening. Plug and play as you would expect and fast spin up and read cycle. Not yet tried to cut a disc. I paid 22.99 – excellent value. Note the case is light plastic, so not load bearing – I didn’t expect it to be anyway as it’s a portable drive. Happy to recommend.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersOrdered y’day, arrived today. Well packaged, good look to the player itself. I’ve just given it it’s 1st outing on my new Acer Aspire XC-1760 and played a DVD. Having read some reviews, I had pre-downloaded VLC Media software. DVD worked instantly. Easy to follow on-screen `keys`.
So far I’m very pleased, the quality of the picture and sound was excellent. Only issue so far, and it was it’s 1st outing, it does `whirr`Some may be put off completely, but I have tinnitus and learnt to live with it, I expect the same here! Any changes to the operation of the Rioddas I’ll let you know.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersI bought this to replace and old Samsung drive which was a bit creaky. A sturdy well built drive and absolutely easy to use. Just plug it in and away you go! I have used it quite a lot over the last few weeks and it has performed really well. I would add that I use Linux and this has not caused any problems at all in using it. The only downside to it is the short cable. The cable is 7.5″ long and is great for transportation as it fits neatly into a bay on the drive but it is a bit short if plugging directly into a desktop. Mine is plugged into a USB hub so it is not a problem but I think the cable length is something buyers should consider before buying as it could be problematical for some. I am perhaps being a bit mean but I dock one star because of the cable length.
