About Us
“What do you think about going into die casting?”
It was September 1943 when this proposition was brought to Ryobi founder Yutaka Urakami.
The proposal came from the manager of Mitsubishi Electric’s Fukuyama Works in Hiroshima . Yutaka, then operating a small trading company, was no technician and, with no knowledge of die casting, had to ask “What’s die casting?” The manager explained and Yutaka immediately set to work reading about the process, learning about it from scratch.
After this momentous conversation and careful consideration, his reply to the manager was decisive: “I’ll do it.” This decision came just one week after Yutaka heard the term “die casting” for the very first time.

Strimmer works well with ample power for domestic use (Used half the power of 4Ah battery on reasonable sized Garden). Easy to handle and well balanced.
Package had slight damage when delivered and noticed date of manufacture week 24 2022 but all seems to work well.
Well first I bought the hedge trimmer Ryobi.
Now I bought this to replace my petrol multi tool.
Lightweight and easy to use and set up.I love how you can turn the head to trimm the edges as on the petrol this was not a option. It does a great job on the grass I don’t think I will ever go back to petrol after this.
Only one thing I would say is if your grass is neglected you might need to get it cut back first.
The Ryobi Strimmer boasts an impressive cutting power that allows it to effortlessly trim through tall grass and tough weeds. Equipped with a high-quality motor and cutting mechanism, this strimmer maintains a consistent cutting speed, ensuring a neat and uniform result on your lawn. Whether you’re dealing with unruly grass around the edges or tackling dense vegetation in hard-to-reach areas, the Ryobi Strimmer proves to be up to the task.
Versatility at Its Best:
One of the standout features of the Ryobi Strimmer is its versatility. It comes with adjustable cutting height settings, giving you the flexibility to tailor the cutting height according to your specific needs. The option to switch between trimming and edging modes further enhances its versatility, making it a 2-in-1 tool for various gardening tasks. You can neatly edge your walkways and flowerbeds with ease, thanks to the strimmer’s rotating head.
User-Friendly Design:
Ryobi has put considerable effort into ensuring that their strimmer is user-friendly. The lightweight construction and ergonomic handle design allow for extended use without causing hand fatigue. The well-balanced distribution of weight also adds to the comfortable experience, making it suitable for both novices and experienced gardeners alike.
Cordless Convenience:
The Ryobi Strimmer is available in cordless models, powered by efficient lithium-ion batteries. This cordless design provides the freedom to roam around your garden without being constrained by a power cord, eliminating the hassle of untangling wires and searching for power outlets. Maintaining the Ryobi Strimmer is hassle-free. The cutting head is designed for easy line replacement, allowing you to spend more time on your gardening tasks and less on tool maintenance. Replaced my 10 year old petrol strimmer, spending more time repairing and trying to start it
Easy to use, although not as powerful as the petrol version, line tends to tangle in spool, just as all machines appear to do. Battery life just about ok for my needs, but intend to get a bigger battery soon, and use original as back up
he trimmer has plenty of function and has low battery usage, my 2Ah battery was able to last the front garden edge trimming and rear garden and all the edge grass as well, i would say it has about 30 mins run time. also the tilting head is very useful as well as just having 1 line instead of 2 seem to work really well and reduces the amount of wire los
Finally a strimmer that actually works and does not require constant fiddling with the cutting cord.
The included battery is OK, only 1.5 amps but it will do the average garden on a single charge. Its a pity they didn’t put a bigger battery on it as I don’t know how well it might cope on other Ryobi products.
I can’t fault the product….
I’m a fan of Ryobi anyway, but it’s a good strimmer…..
To be fair, I needed it in a hurry, and rushed the ordering of the item, without doing the proper research……
It’s just not man enough for the job, but that’s my fault, and it is not down to the tool….
For light strumming and edging pathways it’s great….Long thick grass or big weeds less so……
My new garden is a jungle, and I’ve had to resort to hacking it down manually……
You can buy blades for this stimmer to replace the strimmer cord, which helps…..
Bought this strimmer as needed to cut the long grass. Slots together easily, the hardest part I found was getting it out the box! Battery lasts between 15 to 20 minutes depending on how hard you are using it and how long it was charged before hand, charges in 1 hour, but lasts better if left to charge a little longer. Works well and made short work of the long wet grass in my garden.
Would have liked a heavier trim line to cut what is a good wide area. Will load some next time.
Never convinced of any auto feed but serms to cope.
Assembly is easy and straightforward.
With a 5Ah battery it easily trims the edges of 3 lawns totalling around 100 yards by 50 yards and still has plenty of charge left.
The rotatable head and extendable shaft are easy to adjust/lock.
The instructions didn’t make it clear if the line feed needed the spool to be tapped on the ground like some other strimmers, I had to refer to the Ryobi instruction YouTube video to discover the line feed is automatic and doesn’t need “tapping”.
The line spool is easy to access/change.
I can feel it beginning to strain when it’s up against a dense tufty clump of grass but if you back off and then go back in slowly it copes okay.
The fitted spinning wire/cutter is strong and even after several months it hasn’t broken or needed me to yank some more out.
I have a large garden, an acre roughly with a lot of edges and awkward spots. I have completed most of the edges easily on one charge, even the thought grass still wet from dew. I strongly recommend buying, manufacturing or, in my case, altering a (petrol) strummer harness for use as a support. The lower back reminded me I needed one. So far, the line has been good enough to tackle even the toughest of weeds and the charge is still going strong. (NOTE – I am used to a powerful two-stroke petroleum trimmer which tackles the toughest the garden has BUT it’s power comes at a cost – noise. I usually wear a helmet with a face guard and ear protection. Although the face guard is prudent, I no longer require the ear protection. Ryobi is quiet. Neighbours will be pleased.
After a few week’s use, like all my other Ryobi kit, this is a great piece of kit. I was pleasantly surprised by how long the reel of plastic cutting thread actually lasted and by the size and type of plants with which it deals effectively. I have not tried recharging the reel with cutting twine but it looks very similar to my two-stroke. Changing to the plastic cutter blades, I noticed the increased vibrations but, once again, I was pleased by how simple it was to use and by how long they lasted.
HIghly recommended.
I have now completed all the edges and rid the spinner of most of its tenacious weed and not yet had to change batteries or re-charge spools; not even sure how that is done but will find out soon; more anon.
One disappointing feature is the ubiquitous “Made in China” logo. What is wrong with British manufacturing? So many items purchased today have the same label (not revealed until after purchase) and surely no beyond British companies.
I am not able to report on longevity, battery charge, etc. My garden was growing so well, I just had to deal with it.
I like the freedom to walk anywhere with this trimmer and not have a cable. It is quieter than my corded trimmer but less powerful. Perhaps that is to be expected or due to using a 1.5Ah battery!
Didn’t think a cordless Strimmer would be so good.
Really impressed this well made and a joy to use
Used for strimming grass in places mower was difficult to reach. Did not like the fact when nylon cord snapped I had to take the head apart and manually pull more cord out. Everything else seems fine.
Also I had a couple of 1.5ah batteries from my Ryobi drill which are smaller than the recommend 2.5ah (I think). However they last maybe 15 mins each in it which doesn’t seem a lot but your not cutting the whole lawn with a strimmer so does the job fine. Only once I had to swap over part way through and the battery wasn’t full when I started.
My advice, don’t get the cheaper one with the non-adjustable grips or you’ll pay for it with lower back pain. And if you have some smaller batteries already then save some money and buy it without batteries as the 1.5s work fine. Whole point of Ryobi is not to have 1 million batteries. And if you’re planning to cut your whole lawn with a strimmer then good luck!
All that has changed! As I own several Ryobi tools already it was a no-brainer to get the strimmer. As it so easy to slap in a battery and get stuck in, I find I’m doing it every time now. I also find the auto-feed mechanism works faultlessly. I’ve not had to re-thread a broken line once yet, and that always used to happen with my Flymo and mains-powered Ryobi ones.
I have genuine Ryobi 5.0 AH batteries, and I can strim all the edges of my fairly large lawns and then move the battery into my Ryobi leaf blower to tidy up, and I’ve rarely used more than half of the capacity.
Highly recommended!
