Productivity? Tripled. Gaming? Top of the scoreboard with 240Hz. Streaming video? Totes amazeballs. There is nothing this monitor isn’t AMAZING at.
It’s only weakness, and it’s pretty much Kryptonite, is you need a B I G D E S K.
Let’s be honest, if you can afford this monster, a new desk is pocket change
100% recommend.
Been waiting this for a while and was not disappointed. If you enjoy FPS games this is the monitor for you. Just be aware that not all games take advantage of an ultra wide monitor, but the ones that do look amazing.
Bit disappointed at first, but that soon wore off, only in the fact that the screen depth seemed very narrow. But as it’s for Sim Racing it’s perfect. I see all I need to see. Brilliant refresh rate and fantastic picture right out of the box, would highly recommend.
This monitor was suggested to me by a Discord server full of people with some expertise in this space. They have compiled tons of research into a spreadsheet and this is the one that suited my needs perfectly. I was advised to save money and get this G9 rather than the G9 Neo, as the difference between the 2 isn’t worth the increased price.
This is cheaper and better than the competition, which is surprising since Samsung are usually nowhere near as cheap as its competition, but this monitor is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else that I could find similar to this.
It felt like a no-brainer, and right they were; this monitor is absolutely fantastic. The quality is blowing my mind still today, the speed is great, the way my games look … I can’t express how beautiful they are. GTA V with the graphics mod known as NVE (Natural Vision Evolved) looks out of this world on ultra settings. Microsoft Flight Simulator on ultra is beautiful, WoW even looks insane on this monitor.
Most importantly, however, I bought this monitor for sim-racing. It’s exactly what I needed for that, and ticks all of the boxes. I have no issue with motion, colour range, brightness / darkness or any of that stuff. The one thing this monitor scored quite low on was black uniformity but for me I’ve not noticed that it’s bad at all, perhaps I need to be a completely dark room to spot that; I usually have a lamp on.
I’m no expert when it comes to knowing what I’m on about with monitors which is why I let the experts provide the data and I made my decision based on that.
No regrets at all, it looks awesome (front and back) and has completely changed how I race and how I write code.
1st impression review and 1 year later review.
1st impression: my set up at the time of purchase was imac 2012 and ps4.
I didn’t buy for gaming, although i game with ps4 via HDMI..
With the right Display port cable and a mess around with the settings, i’m more than happy with the quality. There isn’t another monitor this wide on the market (at my time of purchase) i originally purchased this screen for extra real estate in music production.
NOTE Using 1080 Display port (out of my imac 2012 and still looks good)
If you want extra screen, instead of buying two 27″ monitors for example. Do it.
As for gaming, G sync is the best option using windows, I have tried my ps4 with it is good enough
Future update 1 year on..I NOW USE A MAC STUDIO AND PS5
It’s absolutely fine gaming with ps5, it has a 1ms response time which many other monitors don’t. Especially for the size! That’s an excellent feature.
I currently have this connected to my mac studio, The ghosting is visible, for example watching football you can see the ball leaving a trail like most other monitor do. But other than that i can’t fault it’s performance. BUT to be a critic do have a couple of grudges.
The auto switch between ports doesn’t work. For example, turning off my mac then turning on my ps5. I have to manually change the source.
Leading me on to the next issue, the previous issue could’ve been solved if it had a remote. It’s a pain in the ass switching the sources by hand.
Other than that, it’s still the best monitor on the market regarding size, response time, quality picture even after a year after purchase, one thing you might want to know is, It’s not fully 4k. But it that doesn’t matter, unless you edit photo’s and video’s?. If you watch films that are shot in 4k, it looks amazing.
This monitor really is incredible (if a little pricy!). The 5120×1440 resolution makes it amazing for both productivity and gaming (although you’ll need a best of a machine if you want to run games full-screen on max graphics with a decent fps)
I don’t play PC games, so I can’t rate it for that. As far as I use it though, as a ridiculously huge workstation to extend my laptop screen out, it’s a game changer. Seeing large spreadsheets without constantly having to move left and right, or having multiple documents and pages open at the same time visible is great. I couldn’t go back now.
Seems ok but other Samsung basically broke after 2.5 years. Horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen.
All good except I have 1 red dead pixel + When you look at text or stuff in orange you can see lines not sure if thats a common problem or what but all apart from that all works good.
Monitor is perfect if you are lucky enough to get one without any faults! 100% recommend just don’t settle for one that is not up to par!! From the moment it was taken out of the box and switched on it had a cluster of dead pixels located on the far right! Had to go through the works to get a replacement instead of a refund! 20 minutes on amazons live chat, 2 – 30 minute calls to Samsung and then another 20 minutes live chat with amazon and I Finally managed to get a replacement sent!
I bought this to replace a dual Screen set-up as it worked out the same desk space but a higher spec screen. I game and use it for work.
Paired with my 3090 it plays most modern games in full resolution very well and G sync makes any fps variation unnoticeable. I miss having a second screen for putting temps or vids on but I may buy a small cheap 10 inch monitor for this later.
As for working, it works just as well as a dual screen setup as you can still snap 2 or more windows and it looks just the same as a multi-screen set up.
It is very heavy and gets fairly warm after being in use for a long time and I would not have considered buying this monitor at full RRP but I got it for 900 which I am happy with.
Hello all. I have had this monitor for two days so just getting use to it, i have the monitor on for about 8 hours no popping or cracking form the case, no flickering on the screen.
Setting up was fun (not) but i have it working how i want it to,
out of the box the monitor was dull i had to go into settings adjust the input in my case display port, then pick to the picture mode i wanted sRGB i disabled active-sync, then adjusted the Brightness. this worked for me it may not for you.
I found the best way of getting the monitor out of the box was to put the stand and arm together then attach it to the monitor and lift it out of the box then place on my desk.
Ok so far i’m happy i will update in one month.
Thank you for your time.
Up date it’s now 06/02/2023 the monitor is great no problems no pops or crackling. I’m vary happy with my monitor, I will up date if anything happens goos or bad.
This thing is big. Set up was tricky, but if you follow the instructions it’s pretty straightforward. I definitely recommend using the bottom half of the polystyrene for support when building it up and plugging in cables etc.
Mine arrived in perfect condition, and I’ve heard no pops, bangs or cracks when the thing warms up. The OSD is quite intuitive, and after downloading the Samsung drivers and making sure it was displaying at 240hz I was good to go.
It’s great for work, and I use a piece of software that enables fast window resizing, which I run three windows at around 40:40:20. For games it’s great – the 240hz helps to make things smooth, even if your graphics card struggles to push higher than 100fps, this monitor still makes things look silky. The immersion too is on another level from the 35 inch curved screen I upgraded from.
All in all, I love it.
Since the review below I have got a replacement for the monitor and second time around I can give this monitor 5 Stars. The replacement has non of the faults of the previous monitor and everything works has it should. Now I am happy to own one of these monitors and thought it only fair to add this fact to my previous review.
Many faults HDR darkens the screen so you cannot use it, full 5210 x 1440 works @ 60Hz. Screen can also start flicker turn dark and lock up. These are just 3 of many faults with the Samsung G9 many more become apparent when you do some research on the internet PC forums. The price is way too high for a monitor with so many issues. I was looking for a good experience but sadly did not find it so returned after 24 hours.
Please do your research before buying this particular monitor although other Samsung monitors I have owned have been quite satisfactory.
Great for gaming and normal office apps. Curve is perfect. Some things do flicker though, especially things like “notebook” with text.
This screen is amazing. Mostly for office usage IMHO. The issue with games and even movies is that there simply isn’t a lot of them that can run on the maximum resolution. I have one pixel that turns green when I enable HDR, but I don’t even notice it with all the screen space available. Would buy again if I had to do this over.
I was considering to buy this monitor for 2 years, finally made decision to go for it and I do not regret it.Got rid of other smaller monitors to have this. As I WFH I have also noticed my eyes are less tired in the end of the day, this is because of high refresh rate.
Bought this not for gaming, but for productivity and development.
Screen is nice overall but there are some annoying parts.
Ok, you can use 3 inputs and split two in the same time , however is not automated and you have manually each time to unsplit then activate two of them and good luck remembering what input is what.
Total idiotic thing to create such of setup behavior.
I wanted to use two sources from a laptop as split screen and the third as one full screen with other PC.
It was a nightmare to try to do what I wrote before and then ended up in removing one source and the split screen .
If they only had a simple idea to make some profiles that you can only switch/rotate from a dedicated button, but I guess for that you need to brain.
What else. The 240 is a gimmick cause even if you try to install the monitor driver and your card can output that is still based on particular settings that you can chose. I will need to stick to the 120.
Also the amount of time spent to actually calibrate it on some acceptable nuances was way longer than should be.
Overall the eyes are getting tired faster that using a 34 inch so probably I should tried a 38.
I do regret getting it.
I use 3 laptops, 2 connected to the monitor. it could do with a remote. constantly fiddling with the button under. is constant source of pain. other than that its a great monito
It’s nice. I’ve not had any major issues with games yet and for most games it’s a nice screen. It’s great for productivity.
It get hots, very hot, sometimes even alarmingly hot. A hot ambient room doesn’t help but at the end of the day the top of the monitor is hot to the touch, quite literally too hot to touch. And this thing emits a lot of heat.
I have had the monitor for several months now and wouldn’t swap it for anything (okay maybe the Alienware QD-OLED), but unfortunately, despite my scoring, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you get a deep discount.
The monitor is still plagued with issues from it’s rocky launch, my screen has the common issue where certain colours being displayed on the screen can cause the entire screen to go in to this weird greyed out ‘pixelated’ mode – mine appears to not be as bad as others as I’ve been sent videos which cause other G9’s to bug out on but mine doesn’t – it’s still not acceptable for the price.
I also occasionally have Windows Sleep issues where the monitor does not awake – if you get this hold Ctrl+Shift+Win and press B, it should come back (the key combo resets your GPU drivers, thank me later), again not acceptable for the price.
There’s other issues too, NVIDIA Linux drivers do not support DSC (compression), so at full resolution you can’t have full refresh rate, it’s one or the other.
Now that the negatives are out of the way, the positives are also great – the monitor looks fantastic in both HDR (really good) and SDR (still great), the responsiveness is very snappy and always feels fluid, and the physical build quality of the monitor itself also feels great (though it’s hefty!).
As a final note for PS5 users – don’t get this monitor just for it. If you do have a PS5 and a PC though, you need an EDID adapter to run the monitor at 120Hz and 1080p (you still can’t have 1440p), doesn’t seem to be needed on Xbox.
The question in the title should be asked for the price. If your the type that can sit down and customise your setup to fully utilise it, it is worth it (3d modeling, software development, gaming)… if not, and there are feature which are specific you might not need this.
I love the monitor, but it obviously lacks certain things which you can do with a comparable dual monitor setup. One key thing is having something in fullscreen on 1 monitor vs the other. That a side the sheer number of pixels makes text so clear that I’m defaulting to 67% zoom on most websites.
If your running Win 10 or Win 11, I’d highly recommend installing Microsoft’s “PowerToys” for the “Fancy Zones”. Windows 11 has a way of quickly sizing windows to portions of a screen, but the powertoys enable a more powerful / customizable version to Win11 + 10.
One thing really bugs me about the device is that when the current input has stopped, it very quickly goes into power saving mode (irritating when you want to switch to another device plugged in and active, maybe add an option for extending this). Following on from that point, instead of turning off switch to an active device first instead of turning off.
I work with tech and so I am the one stop shop for family repairs. The point in saying that is I do love the PIP mode. Being able to have a second device showing in the top corner while something long winded is installing is such a time / space saver. Now I don’t need to pull out a second disable :D.
Another thing for people to consider is the size of your room when setting up. The box room was converted to my office and the desk fill up near the window, so I can’t get around the back of the table… it made plugging in cable a little more difficult.
Works seamlessly with the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060.
So far this is an excellent monitor. A completely different viewing experience from the traditional two or three separate screens. The curvature makes sure you don’t need to move or strain to see what’s at the edges of the screen. I use it for video editing and 3D modelling. I Don’t use it for gaming. It’s very heavy and you ‘must’ read the unpacking and installation notes to get it set up and working properly. There is a cover that fits over the back connection options which makes it awkward to connect and disconnect cables once its on your desk but that’s a minor quibble. You do pay a high price but if It’s your job you won’t be disappointed.
Would have been nice if it was right model, it was older model mk1
look like amazon warehouse dont check items as this was older model in wrong box
it you had it in split screen mode it would not always work, bit pain if want two 27″ screens.
sometime could not select 10bit, had to flick through 60/ 144/ 240hz to get working
also sometime flicker as screen image image would glitch which i read on the internet reviews with old model
picture was nice even tho it had only 10 dimming zones, there was bit of a glow on edges
and some do clip in the ultra wide so huds are off the screen but if ran in 27″ 34″ mode seems ok in these mode but no gsync if in split screen mode
was running 2080 super get 50fps in the ultra wide 5000 res
also some stuck pixels
the monitor when attached to the stand did not seem very stable, when the desk was knocked the monitor wobbled quite a fair amou
Read many reviews about this monitor, had mixed feelings about quality. So I was pleasantly surprised when I did not run into any issues.
No dead pixels, crystal clear text and great images, and it works at 240Hz (only used for productivity, no gaming). No thermal expansion noises either.
Certainly no expert on the subject but no notable bleeding (you have to be a very dark room to notice what little there is), and uniform white. Not sure how the latest more expensive model would improve on this one.
Really glad I took a gamble and ordered this superb monitor. After reading a few negative reviews, I was worried it would have –
1. Dead pixels – nope
2. Make popping noises from the plastic heating up – nope
3. Trouble with Freesync/Gsync running at 240hz – nope
4. Light bleed – nope
Had no issues with it at all. I did have to download the latest firmware (currently 1013.0) but that proved to be simple – just pop it on a usb stick and plug in the back. I bought the G9 LC49G95TSSRXXU which uses less power than the last version.
Open world games look fantastic. If your on the fence and you’ve a decent graphics card – Go For It! you won’t regret buying.
This is the best screen and computing experience that I’ve ever had. I don’t use it for gaming though, mainly productivity, programming etc. The screen real-estate is impressive and makes tasking with multiple apps a breeze. I have not had any problems with this screen, and I’m running it off a Mac mini (16GB memory). If you get this monitor to use with a Mac mini you will need to purchase a separate USB-C to Display Port cable (I got mine from Amazon) because the Mac mini has a non-compatible size HDMI socket. The resolution is excellent. I would recommend. If you spend a lot of time in front of a screen, then this is a very worthwhile investment. I’ve not had any problems with it.
Do you need a 49′ wide screen monitor? Probably not, however I bought one anyway.
At first I missed the vertical height my 32′ wide screen gave vs this screen.
That’s about where the negatives end, the quality of the picture is amazing I had a highly rated monitor already but this G9? Text is crisp, the colour is beautiful and I get none of the flicker or any other problems reported in the first batch or two from the factory.
It’s beautiful, to use and Im glad I pulled the trigger, the light bleed is minimal and yes in a dark room with a mostly black screen like any similar panel there is ‘some’, however nothing that would worry or bother you, not had any of this plastic cracking (they lowered the power to 55w from over 100w).
If you aren’t sure? And see how these screens have come down in price? Absolutely worth the money, and I cant see the newer ‘Neo’ version being worth the extra money, until they drop to similar price this is the smart buy.
Perfect for me animating on it. The large space with no physical barrier in between works a treat. It’s seamless so I can work in my 3D package Maya with ease.
I bought this display to share simultaneously between my MacBook Pro and Asus Windows PC Laptop for work productivity and gaming, and I’d delighted with its quality and capability. The display is huge, but is a joy to work with and easy to set up. I have no dead pixels, the case doesn’t creak – it is faultless. The design is sext, the RGB lighting looks cool, and the screen curvature is remarkable and makes it easy to work with. Money well spent – thoroughly recommended.
No problems at all; no plastics creaking or cracking – the only issue is that I wish the stand could lift the monitor a little higher, but I could always buy a riser to put it on…
Monster of a screen and surprisingly heavy. Works really well though. I bought it mainly to connect to my M1 macbook pro as they don’t work with multi external screens. Works great for this, and I have no issues with full resolution like some screens can have. That said in the new age of working from home my works company windows laptop is plugged into it more and it works equally well. From a multiple windows at one point of view I can easy get 3 across the screen. Example 3 browser windows up at one time. For work that translates to say a browser, teams and a remote desktop which is way better than I could do with 2 screens. Home wise video editing timeliness or audio work flows are amazing with all the screen area.
Expensive but has made a huge diference to my work flow.
