Excellent if expensive monitor. Chose this over the oled version for higher hdr scene brightness and no issue with screen burn. Responsive, sharp clear pic with good brightness especially in hdr. Works great for sim racing. Once setup not really noticed any issues especially with the Latest firmware.
It does continually make a very quiet noise as the plastic moves as it warms. Not an issue but I have heard of others mention it as well. You have to be in a quiet room to hear it. The mini led back light is the star of the show giving extreme contrast ratio, when set-up right. The earlier firmware sometimes messed this up but much better on later firmwares. Even viewing test scenes filmed for oled (LG oled 4k on YouTube) this monitor shines on, if you sit in front it’s great black background with bright highlights but not overdone. Yes if you go off axis you get the halo effect but on axis which is how it will be used this is not an issue.
Slightly strange how much of the function of the monitor gets locked out when setting to hdr etc but I guess this is part of the hdr requirements to keep the transmission faithful.
Highly recommend, not compared to much personally but have experience with oled tvs and the reviews of this tend to be good and I am not aware of any of the issue raised anywhere else. And as I used to work as a product engineer in Toshiba it was my field for a long time.
Excellent monitor in terms of quality and variability, the option to have 240hz with 4k resolution to put the rtx 40 series to work is great. One thing to note however is the appearance of black squares and bars that show up once every few hours, which can be inconvenient but doesn’t affect the performance at all and isn’t too noticeable as it doesn’t happen too often. Overall a fantastic spec monitor that can do it all but with minor flaws.
I love this monitor, it’s by far the best monitor I’ve ever had and the first “high end” display I’ve ever had. I’m going to be CRITICAL with this review though and say 4 stars is about right.
Backstory: I wanted 4k 32″ OLED but as of today there is no 4k 32″ OLED in existence (although the PG32CDM litterally got announced yesterday which is, but also doesn’t exist today and will probably cost a bomb). So failing that I wanted the blackest LED blacks at 4k and 32″. This is the only thing that fits that spec – so it was a buy.
However:
I just hate the curvature. I’m trying to learn to love it and I still might, but seeing things I know should be straight lines be curved is triggering to me. The monitor is large at 32″, but not so large that it goes unnoticed like the curvature of the freakin earth.
By the specs, the local dimming is the best on the market, however…
Games have to use FULL black for it to kick in at its best and it’s SPECTACULAR in tests that do, but you only realisticaly see that in games on loading screens, there’s always a bit of ambient light in normal 3D scenes and so the local backlight kicks in.
Everything glows. If you have dark backgrounds with white text on top, the white text will GLOW. That’s the local dimming. Taking getting used to but again it’s a productivity negative… that text does not have a glow, but I see a strong glow effect around it all.
There are scanlines visible in deep blues which is a bit odd but nothing I mind or see that often. The local dimming seems to freak out around the edges and flicker on full-black screens, not sure what’s up there.
That all aside though, I do love it. 120hz is nice, can’t really use the 240hz mode at 4k. The HDR is nice, on the games that use it right. The colours and blacks are still the best I’ve ever seen on a non-oled monitor, to the point I am showing everyone I can just how good it is in comparision to my old stuff. Love it.
One last thing: twist it to portrait and it is absoloutely DOMINATING as a display, so good, if only there were more reasons to do that.
So far after 3 month it’s been a great investment. After hearing stories of Samsungs product quality I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the monitor.
Great colours and blacks without the risk of burn in you get with OLEDs.
If your not going OLED this is as close as you can get to the true blacks
Overall, I have been satisfied with the panel. I was able to calibrate it for accurate colours.
However, after a few days of use, I discovered a dead pixel. I was aware that Samsung’s quality control is not the best, but I did not expect this issue.
If you are considering purchasing this panel, be prepared to potentially return it for a replacement.
Great monitor for the price. Beware does not have speakers.
This monitor is good for gaming:
– 4K at 240 or 120hz
– contrasty image looking good in both HDR and SDR
This monitor is not very suitable for work/productivity:
– lacklustre brightness in SDR
– HDR brightness is not very high either (don’t believe in HDR 2000 they use in marketing as it’s not a reference to the standard but their own assessment which they call ‘quantum’ HDR)
– very poor color uniformity especially on the vertical axis – when you sit right in front of it you’ll see three distinct zones – the one in the center is perfect, the one to the top or bottom is washed out pretty noticeably (this one is again not visible in gaming / video, but very prominent in any other form of work)
– the screen is very reflective even in the evening when there’s not much lights in the room – the light glares back at you
– the matte film on this display has this weird distorty effect when you look at it, like a smudged glass sort of thing (you need to look at it in person)
– scan lines are clearly visible in 240hz mode
My particular unit exhibited air bubbles on the screen film (which is not removable) so had to be returned.
Overall is only suitable for gaming if you’re willing to agree to the shortcomings of the VA panel described above. Quality control might be an issue so buy only where you can easily return/exchange.
The picture quality of this monitor is exceptional, truly the best you can get in an lcd, second only to OLED. The refresh rate is as advertised as well.
Existing reviews talk about banding at high refresh rates, however in practice – while they are there – they really are not noticeable. I could only slightly notice them within Windows Explorer, and never when actually gaming.
The only issue I have for this monitor may be something specific to me but I’ll say it anyway. My PC refuses to start if the monitor is on when the pc boots, it gets stuck at 97 (which is a display error). If I power off the monitor, start my pc until it gets past step 97, then power on the monitor, it works like a charm.
I highly recommend this monitor to anyone in the market for a high end 4k display with OLED visuals and a super fast refresh rate, but who want a more standard 32″ display.
I have purchased this monitor directly from Samsung. I was like everyone else hearing the reviews of scanlines being a problem an was worrying, but I took the jump. My monitor came and I set it up and had a really good look an couldn’t see any while on windows furthermore it hasn’t caused any problems while gaming either. No scanlines. How ever I had a problem of flickering in games with amd freesync, but that is now fixed. I updated drivers, removed the second monitor that I had on my gaming rig, bought a vesa certified display port 1.4 and turn on vrr on the monitor. No more flickering. I do believe it was down to the amd driver.
It is great for gaming picture wise. Black’s or black as they shud be close to oled and HDR is great. With the perfects black an high HDR rating, brings a new experience to your games .Only the rtx 4090 MIGHT come close to being able to drive the 240hz. The display for colour and responseness is excellent. I’m happy with purchase
here are no words to describe the perfection of this monitor, i was hearing about scanlines and etc but i haven’t got anything!!! its pure magic and its on 240 HZ 4K, the colours and the bright while HDR is amazing!!! every game is stunning, you think u are inside… definetely recommend this monitor!!! i believe the price of this item will definetely go up!!! its only up that can go for this monitor!!
This is the best 4k monitor i have ever used its 165 refresh rate at 4k i have not managed to get up that high in any new games the hdr is stunning on this and worth having on refresh rage is 48 – 165 for dp on pc
its clear and i have had no problems with this at all recommended for gaming .
i am running 5900x and 3080ti
bf2042 max settings 80ish
cyberpunk max setting with dlss on performance about 60 fps
i was going to get the g8 32inc 4k at 240 rr but all the problems its having i ended up going with this glade i did as games all not even close to 100 fps at 4k max setting
i have also turned the brightness down to about 65% as it hurts my eyes but when the hdr is on wow must see to believe i must have watched every youtube video on this before i got it all in all for 1000 pounds with promo was a lot but it comes with everything i needed for now
the bad point is the stand is so poor i needed to buy a desk mou
