My grand children love the tablet, they prefer it to the ipad which the school gives them
Good quick tablet, pen very nice to use. Good support, top quality in all respects except the screen brightness and, in my case, although Amazon addressed the issue, the screen was slightly raised from the frame (manufacturing fault I think, so one off and now completely sorted). Also the screen is not as bright on a sunny day as my old Galaxy Tab A and given this is an S6, I was surprised (not so clear even on a dull day when using it outdoors – for OS maps, directly compared).
But in all other respects other than these two, I love it.
Good quality tablet does everything I have needed, Battery can go quite quickly depending on type off app used and does take a while to fully charge but all I’m all well worth it.
The tablet is good but the nib of the pen broke after 1 x week . Unfortunately Amazon would not replace the pen for an original Samsung pen but would only offer a refund for cheaper alternative pen in a different colour or return of complete tablet and pen ?? I must say, that Amazon are losing my custom now as their offered service’s seem to be getting worse . Their delivery couriers are poor and leave parcels where they can or don’t offer as much next day prime delivery as they use to .
Super Android product, handy for meetings using handwriting. Only downside no fingerprint biometric. Face recognition seems to work only after session started with pw. Handwriting can be recognised on synced laptop. Great price compensates.
We can work at a lot of places with it, but it does not accept sim card.
Since getting this, my daughter has used it non-stop. She’s downloaded a range of art apps for it and produced some lovely artwork. The stylus draws smoothly and works well with the apps. Writing notes with the stylus is also easy and it’s pretty amazing how it can recognise bad handwriting!
The screen quality isn’t quite as good on the lite version, and strong sunlight does hinder viewing a little. However if you’re using this mostly indoors, you’d probably never notice.
It’s WiFi capabilities are good and you can also use a sim card if preferred. It plays videos well and was able to read and play files from a usb c memory stick with no problems – this includes films and music.
My daughter writes many stories and prefers the use of a keyboard for this. She regularly plugs her gaming keyboard through the usb c on the tablet and this works exceptionally well.
The tablet is really good for battery life and charges quite quickly especially if used with a fast charging adaptor. The screen is quite robust and doesn’t appear to scratch easily. My daughter refused to have a screen protector on in case it affected her artwork and despite this, the screen is still immaculate.
Considering how much other similar tablets cost, I think this one is a little gem.
Performance is good, pencil is integrated really nicely. There are quite a few things that need setup and changing such as the replacing some of the built in Samsung apps.
The screen is not amazing, but most of the time you won’t notice it, only if you’re using it in the dark you’ll notice that the blacks are not black.
Other than that – it’s reliable, nicely made, nice to hold, nice to use, nice to look at. Loving it.
I had some difficulty utilising one of the features of this product, but as a result of the exceptional product support from this company I came to realise it was not a limitation of this product but a limitation of my own device. In my experience, few companies provide the level of support that this vendor does.
If you don’t whine about every little detail then this is a good buy especially with the amount of deals being applied to this tablet. It’s got a quality feel about it, granted the screen is lacking due to the price bracket but that doesn’t deter from the fact that it’s probably as good as it gets for the aforementioned price, the battery is brilliant but be aware it takes a long time to charge but you are repaid in the amount of usage time it gives, the S pen works good with no hiccups and the weight is more than acceptable for this size tablet. I would recommend if in no rush to search for deals, I found a ‘like new’ in the warehouse deals that had 90 reduced of it, when it arrived it had never been used. Buy wisely and you can get a really decent tablet at a fraction of its original price.
Upgraded from a year older Samsung Tab A. Doesn’t disappoint. Been using Samsung products now for years and always rely on them. The pen is a nice touch. Something I’ve never owened before. Screen is excellent. Wouldn’t personally pay the additional 150-200 more for the S7. Didn’t want a huge 12″ screen anyway. This is just right for me. Quality product. Battery life is very good. You won’t be disappointed. Too early to list any issues or dislikes, but I doubt I’ll find any. Would highly recommend.
I use my S6 for personal use to keep in touch with friends and family and to play card games, sudoku and simiple word games. It functions well. Is not too heavy and the larger screen than my previous Samsung is easier for me to read.
I am not very techy, and I have only had it a couple of weeks, but I hope my comments are of use to someone.
I would wait till it is on sale, I bought the 128gb and at this point feel it was a bit pricey.
Battery life is no different than my old 5 year old Samsung tablet, so a bit disappointing. Screen is bright and clear – good when your eyes aren’t what they usd to be!
I thought I had researched the life out of this model, but I missed a few things. It has taken a bit of getting used to not having a home button, will have to look up how to do a screen shot! Its a lot different to my 2016 Samsung 10.1 which was a lot easier to navigate for a non techy person. My only real disappointment, and I hope this is a heads up for those who use the free version of Office – word, excel etc. It is NOT FREE on tablets with over a 10.1 screen. It seems you need a monthly subscription to Microsoft 365 to be able to edit any documents – I had loads, will be a bind having to dust off the laptop to do my accounts/write letters (yes, some of us still do!). For me this was important and not something that popped up in my pre purchase research. It did have a fancy pen with it that I can apparently write on the screen wth!
Brilliant tablet. It doesn’t really lag at all and the pen works very well. I’ve had a go with the new ipad air and I prefer the pen on the s6 lite. The responsiveness is the same for both but the s pen feels more like writing on paper. The screen is nice and bright, although it might take a while to get used to if you’ve had an oled before. Obviously an oled would be nicer but I can’t complain because for 300 it’s an absolute steal! Oh and I wouldn’t recommend it for people who want to type lots as there aren’t really any nice keyboard cases. I got one of the 20 ones and it’s absolute garbage.
Very easy to set up and to use. Delivered quickly. Love the pen that comes with it – makes it even easier to use! No problems so far (but only had it about 3 months to be fair! ). Love Samsung products and this is no exception. I only use it for the basics – Internet, e-mail, games, social media etc, but it more than meets my needs at a very competative price. Highly recommended.
A good tablet with a few issues. The pen is excellent. I use it all the time, so I never leave fingerprints on the screen. I select apps with it, turn pages and play games with it.
The screen is good quality as is the sound.
It came with a free set of Galaxy ear buds which are fantastic.
The battery life is awful. The worst on any tablet I’ve ever owned. It’s the achilles heel of the product.
Another irritation is that what is the on / off button on other Samsung tablets I’ve owned is now the dreaded Bixby button. Why would anyone use it with Google search installed? Knocking the tablet off involved swiping down the screen to call up a small on / off button next to the settings icon.
Always had Samsung phones but always had ipads for my tablets.
Decided wasn’t going to spend the extra on an ipad and go for Samsung.
Not regretted it, happy with the screen, it has a nice weight and is a good size not too thick or heavy. It also looks nice and really like the blue colour.
The pen is a nice added extra with a few apps included for drawing which the kids love.
The main thing I wanted was good battery life and this has it, my son hammers it watching YouTube and I get 2-3 days use before needing to charge.
Recommend and think will be sticking with Samsung tablets from now on although I expect this to last a good amount of years.
I bought it through the Amazon warehouse on sale plus an additional employee discount, the price simply was impossible to beat by anywhere else but not only that the tablet arrived in pristine condition not a scratch not a minimum fault the battery last me at least two days of casual use and full six hour or seven hours of heavy use playing games , YouTube , etc … The S pen does what you would expect in tablet and the screen even though is not amoled is super crisp and detailed can’t complain about the sound either tuned by AKG sound full and loud . Best mid-range android tablet definitely!
If your a mobile user like me, this s6 tablet will replace it. I like to browse and use YouTube alot so screen size is perfect and for movies in bed even better. Audio sounds amazing for a tablet really good quality. Camera is good but I haven’t used it much but quality is seems really good. The pen is the icing on the cake. I don’t use the pen much, but the pen is a pen and it’s great it works like a pen, so when it’s needed it’s brilliant. Battery life is OK for what I use it for. The tablet is very solid sleek and the screen is too. I’ve had no screen protector or tablet case and the screen still looks perfect, I was worried the pen would mark the screen if used too much pressure. so I let my two year old put the pen and tablet through a min stress test. The pen and the screen is solid I’m very happy
Been waiting for this to go on sale for a while and was delighted with the 33% reduction on Prime Day.
Apple iOS is a mess when it comes to simply plugging in external USB drives or SSDs, so I’ve been desperate to get an Android tablet for years.
This Tablet hits the sweet spot for cost vs quality.
Ignore the silly reviews that say it’s slow, it has 4Gb of ram which is plenty for a slick OS.
It has a great screen to body ratio and is perfect for web browsing, video calls, entertainment and light gaming.
I nearly bought the Tab S7 but am so glad I didn’t. I needed a tablet, not laptop replacement – I already have a Dell XPS 15 for my work needs.
All in all a speedy device with the added dimensions of the excellent S Pen.
My kids both have one of these each and I’m pleased to say that games like ‘Among Us’ function perfectly. They absolute adore this tablet.
If you want a tablet buy this, for 259 direct from Amazon during a sale, you cannot go wrong.
The best bit? My 500Gb external T7 Samsung SSD simply plugs in and plays any movie or file ‘on the go’ like a dream.
Move over Apple, you’ve been outdone.
I bought this to replace by aging Samsung Note 10.1 tablet. Its an ideal replacement. Although on paper the screen resolution is slightly lower resolution and is IPS not OLED the quality is just as good. Some of the reviews on Amazon have reported sluggishness, I have noticed none at all. The S-Pen works exactly as expected, and the advances in technology over 7 years are evident – the s-pen is a better shape and feels much more realistic. Battery life is great. the only annoying thing is that the face recognition is quite unreliable but given its other benefits and fantastic price this does not matter to me. I also had to spend some time uninstalling Samsung’s spam but I’ve learnt to expect this with Samsung devices.
I chose one from the Warehouse used options. According to description, it was supposed to have small scratches on the back, but it came in perfect condition, box was opened and then taped together. Definitely worth 50 saving in price. Even if it had scratches, I was planning to buy a case for it and I would never see back of it. I have pretty good experience with Warehouse items and recommend looking into them.
I decided to buy new tablet, to stop using my Samsung Galaxy S9+ for browsing internet at home and away and draining its battery. I have Kindle Fire HDX 2013 (3rd generation), but it has old version of Android, which doesn’t have any more upgrades, and any new apps slow it down. In last few years, I only used it for watching films and TV series while away from home.
I was afraid Tab 6 Lite screen might not be as great as on my phone, since it’s not Amoled, but I don’t see any difference. Maybe in full sun, but weather didn’t give me too many chances to try it in full sun yet.
Samsung Smart Switch was helpful with transferring apps to tablet, however I had to type in hundreds of passwords again. A few apps have different functionality on tablet and one is not updating information. That’s why I’m removing 1 star from review. My favourite news app is not able to update and it’s something related to Android on tablet, app works on any other phone I tried. I already raised it with developer. Also, Adguard and HTTPS filtering doesn’t seem to work properly. Ebay shows me ads that are blocked on my phone. The same for one of the webpages I read, ads are showing up, but they are suppressed on the phone with the same software and rules. Again, raised a ticket with developer, to see if they can solve it. Of course, not everyone is blocking ads on their devices so it may not be an issue, but there might be some other Android tablet quirks.
S-pen is great and I enjoy making notes, just for the fun of handwriting. I use it for almost everything else, typing on keyboard, scrolling pages and playing basic games. I hardly touch the screen with my fingers. I’m waiting for screen protectors, I ordered.
I can’t comment on the battery life yet, only charged it twice. It takes around 3.5h to charge it from almost empty to full. How long it will last, depends on the usage and installed apps. I don’t plan to watch any films on device unless away from home, so it will be mostly reading connected to internet via Wifi.
Even though the tablet was supposed to replace my phone for browsing internet at home. it’s too heavy or not convenient for some situations. Phone is just much easier to hold in one hand and scroll content.
I have now ditched my paper notebook and totally use my new galaxy tablet for taking notes.
It has completely organised my working/home life and the advantage is the ability to create folders and sub folders. We’ll worth the money.
The additional advantage is that you can import pdfs into your notes and take a photo of anything you are writing notes about. I often take a photo of my computer screen if it is a complicated sketch or diagram.
The added value of this tablet is that you have all the other apps available, Internet, email, videos.
I highly recommend it, don’t know how I managed before !!
I absolutely loveee this tablet. Many things about it I like. First, I got a case with it, which auto locks it when closed which is handy. (But ofc not part of the product)
Anyhow, for productivity it is great! I use it everyday for drawing or taking notes, the S pen is so smooth, barely any lag when using it.
It’s a great learning tool too. My use case is for drawing primarily, and it’s such a great way to learn. For example, learning anatomy is so much easier. Can just watch a video, and have the notes app above in transparency to then take notes.
Can also then use same notes transparency to practice yourself by tracing or whatever. Much better than my old wacom tablet, I can see the improvement clearly.
Same goes for any classes or anything which requires alot of notes like shopping list etc.
The screen is nice, but I hate that I can see my ugly reflection. (Mood. Am I right)
The battery lasts around a day and a half, but depends on how much you use it obvs.
I do wish the s pen button was programmable to be what you choose it to do which sucks. E.g. click to ss.
I wanted a tablet for when I was on holiday abroad or in the UK in the caravan.
The screen brightness and clarity is really good and the speakers are great. They get very loud and the sound quality is good too, they easily fill a small room.
The included pen is really good to use and has some nice features too like live translate, copying text etc. I also love the colouring app Pen Up that’s included although it gets a bit addictive and time consuming!
The battery life is really good and I love the fact it uses USB-C like most of my other devices which means it can be charged quickly.
I chose to have the 4G version over the WiFi only model as it means I don’t have to rely on WiFi to watch movies etc – perfect for the caravan.
All in all I’m really happy with my tablet, it’s good value and has great features.
The best tablet on the market, period. I cannot recommend this product enough I’ve been thinking about getting into digital art for a while now and the included s pen and software on the play store combined are amazing, Samsung have definitely knocked it out of the park by fine-tuning Android for the tablet experience, the screen is colourful and beautiful the speakers are loud and sound amazing and the s pen feels like a treat to use on any art software. in my opinion this is a potent iPad rival please consider this before buying any thousand-pound Ipad. I cannot recommend it enough, thank you Samsung!
There isn’t that much out there, and I’m glad I settled on the s6 Lite.
It’s beautifully finished and I’m delighted with it; it does all I want it to.
It’s fairly snappy and apps/ browser work ok; Samsung’s own Exynos octa-core processor stacks up quite well against Snapdragon in bench tests.
Bluetooth connectivity is good and quick, which is something I use a lot; speaker, headphones, keyboard and phone.
I was really suprised at the sound quality/ clarity; the Dolby atmos works really well. When I put it in the serving hatch of my kitchen, the surrounding wood seems to act as a makeshift super-woofer!
I can recommend this tablet for people who want a basic machine for basic tasks.
ive used both this and its more expensive sister, the tab s7+ for some time and can say for certain:
if you need a basic tablet for note taking, this is it. if you need it for borderline movies, this is it but if you need it to do that but at a responsive speed, do not get this, save up for the s7
i found that while yes, it is lightweight, very portable and the pen feels very good to use, the processing speed (how fast it gets things done) is notably slow compared to even a budget phone like the Samsung a70. switching to the s7+, i immediately noticed the responsiveness, the image quality, the sound and just felt how much better it is compared to the s6 lite.
i strongly advise waiting for the next version of the tab s6 lite if you can as it will most likely have a better processor or save up for the tab s7 or s7+ if you need the larger screen (the image quality is not too different to each other) but it is still a good beginner device for those who just need some basic digital note taking or drawing capabilities.
Excellent tablet
Screen (resolution (2000×1200)):
It is sharp and crisp. It gets very bright and is responsive to touch
Build quality: very sturdy, feels nice in the hands and even under heavy loads the casing remains cold to the touch
Performance: I haven’t stress tested it, but for my needs (video streaming, browsing the web, drawing designs and flows, music streaming) the tablet is fast and gets the job done without any noticeable delays.
The S-Pen: this is the reason I bought this tablet, and I haven’t been disappointed. It works great for sketching designs and is also useful for using the tablet as a whole, it adds another layer of polish and use to day to day usage of the table
A brilliant tablet. I was choosing between the new 2020 Ipad and this one. Glad I bought it!
It includes the S-pen and its super light but feels good and balanced in hand. Brilliant for someone like me who get pain from touch screens. It has magnet so it clicks nicely to the side of the tablet. With ipad it would have costed some 80 for the pen. AND! The S-pen doesnt need charging at all!
The tablet looks modern with thinnish bezels and laminated screen, unlike ipad which looks so dated now and non-laminated screen. It looks beatiful.
It has sterero speakers that work when tablet is horisontal so perfect for watching movies, youtube etc. Again on ipad the speakers are both on the bottom of the tablet.
Plenty of memory unlike Ipad again… and it has SD Card slot so can expand even more if need.
Negatives?
No finger print senser is a bummer. But it has face regognition which is ok for me.
Some, perhaps minor to some people, annoying features:
(1). Screen quite dull, and if wanting a more comfortable presentation one needs to increase the brightness to almost top, which will have a direct consequence on battery usage.
(2). Surprisingly, Google Messenger is not available for this platform — or is, but one can’t send messages. Message comes up “Turn on Call & Text on other devices in Settings to make & send messages from this tablet using your phone”. Gave up attempting all this phaffle! It was easier to work with Pushbullet.
(3). I tried the FINTIE Keyboard Case designed for this tablet, but it was such a palaver! One has to manoeuvre the magnetic keyboard when setting up or closing case. I tried to see if the tablet would recognise my existing Logitech case used for the Samsung Tab S10, seeing as width was the same, but the tablet didn’t recognise it via Bluetooth. The FINTIE keyboard itself is a pleasure to work with, but the gerphaffle involved in setting and or closing keyboard far outweighed the pleasure. Its find if having open on a desk for any great length of time, but inconvenient if moving about.
(4). The camera is in a peculiar position — top left of on/off button in landscape mode, and it doesn’t matter which way you face the tablet, the camera has you looking in a different direction. No good for video communications.
In the end, and weighed up against my existing Galaxy S10 and an ASUS C302CA tablet I was also trying, I decided the Tab S6 Lite is not the comfortable working experience for me.
Design is beautiful, I got the Oxford grey version and looks and feels premium, it is extremely well build. I’m amazed with the price as well
I strongly recommend it, it’s the best 350 I spend
As someone else remarked, the charging cable (USB-C) is pathetically short, and certainly it is not a fast charger, battery seems to go down very quickly. The wifi constantly drops out.
Updated to Android 10 with no problems. Some Samsung bloatware, as usual, cannot be removed.
In use it seems quite adequate, I don’t often use it for games. Screen resolution is fine, though the touchscreen could be more responsive.
I disabled Bixby without using, as I have Alexa.
I think the disappointment came from the S6 Lite not being really much improvement on my 2016 Lenovo YT3-X50F
I got the WiFi version with the used option. I must say, it was like brand new except the seal for the box was opened. I mean if that’s the only thing and it takes the price down so much, its well worth since I’m buying the box. The tablet also came very fast ordered. Came within an week of ordering it.
The s-pen is really nice. I was using auto desk and was able to make some nice drawings. The pen is very responsive and doesn’t feel like there is any lag. I like how the pen attaches to the side of the tablet. Just a little disappointed the camera is in portrait and not landscape but I wouldn’t be using that function a lot so I’m not fussed either.
Impressive so far.
I did not buy this to game on, I wanted something with a good stylus, good screen, plenty of storage and long battery life.
So far, with limited use it fits the bill. The resolution is great compared to tablets I owned in the past.
The s pen is great, note taking is awesome.
Speakers are very good, not the loudest but plenty of clear sound at full volume.
I’ve not noticed any lag switching apps or during use, but that might change as I load more productivity apps. The primary purpose of this is for me to do some admin work on the road when I don’t take my laptop.
I opted for the LTE version the have flexibility and on Amazon it was cheaper still than buying the WiFi only version in store in Ireland.
Never given touch screen tablet, as in Apple iPad’s, a second look because their specs never met my requirement as a serious travelling computer. Could never type 50 w.p.m., could not upgrade, could not insert SD cards could not plug in external hard drive and tiny screen. Collegues who had Apple equipment travelled for example, US to Scotland to Norway & Denmark oil fields in the space of 24 – 48 hours (not unusual) but Apple thinks we must be hackers and locks up the equipment, be it phone or iPad etc. The user must be very knowledgable in Apple IT gear to unlock security measures.
Pull Factors :-
I travel with a 14 inch screen laptop as my main machine (HP 840 Elite book I think it’s called). No trouble upgraded it to 16 Gb RAM and 4 Tb hard drive storage. Also carry spare HP 820 also upgraded it myself. Have to because sometimes have had to work with Russians and Chinese personnel and we all know where the most prolific state sponsored hackers are based ! In my career as freelance consultant, have had downed Windows laptop 3 or 4 times in the field due to malware etc and only needed 1 upset client during my first year to ensure I carry a spare.
So back to this Samsung tablet. Yes it is slow, yes it doesn’t have as many ports but reckon it will be good enough as a spare tool when I want to trravel light but still carry a spare. Ordered a 512 Gb microSD card for storage. Not tried but there is a USB C port from which I gather from reading computer mags that it is possible to link up external screens, external hard drives (most important as I do not use Cloud for back ups. Always carry my own physical copies of back ups because cannot rely on satellite link to the Cloud when there is sand storm or storm at sea when the survey vessel antennae point all over the place. The problem with no physical keyboard is obviated by use of the same Bluetooth keyboard for the main laptop.
The clincher to the deal is the S Pen. Computer journals say it is not all that good but I only need it to circle items of interest and draw arrows to inspection photos in the audit / inspection reports I produce for clients. A further benefit is the 3.5mm headphone socket. Etiquette prevents us to use speakers (on the survey vessels) so as to avoid waking neighbours in adjacent cabins who are on night shifts etc. The socket is a fail safe should the Bleutooth headphones battery run down.
Finally, chose the LTE version. I was on a job in Trinidad & Tobago, travelling via US, and companies such as Plusnet SIM card would not give me a connection. (Another lesson learnt = no good being cheap on price in UK when there is no service outside of UK.) Since that work assignment, I have travelled with two phones on two separate networks. With this LTE version of Samsung tablet, there will be no need to carry a spare phone because with a SIM card installed, it can work as a phone as well.
Out of the box I have not road tested everything on this tablet but it scores at least a 4 our of 5 as a good mid range tablet computer. It may be slow but has plenty of other advantages.
Update.
Yes the USB C socket is for plugging in external storage as well as plug for charging. Only thing is, I shall have to back data to external flash or SSD’s which are exFAT formatted because this Android does not handle Windows NTFS formatted data.
A few other benefits which will potentially push this tablet to 5 stars is ability to install the free software as per the Samsung Android phones. For me, I regularly use noise meter, light meter, unit converter, currency exchanges, …. and ….. drum roll, emulator for HP 41C* (C CV or CX) emulators for Reverse Polish Notation calculator. Not been able to find RPN software for Windows lapotops. For quick calculations on the fly in the field or construction site, a HP calculator using RPN logic is the quickest way to go.
Now, if I can a dash mount for inside the car, then would be able to use it as a GPS satellite navigation mapping gadget also. Now, that would definitely push it to a 5 star score.
As a recent university graduate going to do a masters in september, I have found it a bit of a nuisance to lug around my heavy 5 year old laptop along with its charger to various lectures around campus for three years. The main motivator for me was that my laptop decided to make a load of fan noise despite multiple attempts in repairs which proved to be quite embarassing when it decided to whir away during lectures. It led me to resort to pen and paper but I found that awkward, expensive (buying wodges of notepads, or to find the local shop running out of stock every single time) and difficult to keep organised and hard to keep up to speed with lecturers talking so fast. Afterwards, I resorted to my phone but the screen is extremely small so using Microsoft Word, Powerpoint etc proved difficult to use when the on screen keyboard took up half the screen! (Some lecturers did not appreciate seeing me on my phone too, as they thought I was texting and not paying attention also)
About a month ago, I purchased this tablet and have found it to be extremely useful so far. The s-pen accompanied with a note taking app does wonders when wanting to add a handwritten annotation to a university lecture on powerpoint (not at uni currently due to the virus but I have tried and tested this on previous lectures!) and when a third party keyboard is connected via bluetooth, typing is such a breeze without taking up the valuable screen. In terms of what the tablet has to offer, it offers a large amount for the price it is when compared to other tablets and definitely provides an alternative to buying a new laptop, where I can still use my old one when I am not out and about. Having Microsoft word and powerpoint etc available through the cloud means that the files do not take up the tablet’s memory, leaving room for media and other apps!
When searching for the appropriate tablet, I did come across some reviews saying that the s pen was difficult staying attached magnetically to the side underneath the volume controls. HOWEVER, this is easily rectified as the pen attaches really firmly when it’s upside-down with the tip of the pen pointing to the volume controls and is difficult to knock off when it is attached the way you think it would.
Some really useful resources to make comparisons when considering tablets are available on youtube, which go over the whole specs of each one particularly of the s6 lite compared to the s6. Differences between the two are mainly down to the screen displays (but the differences are marginal when seen on youtube), the s-pen (which the s6 doesn’t have), number of speakers and the number of cameras/camera quality (for me personally, I wouldn’t really use the cameras on a tablet to take quality photos anyway, let alone to have two rear ones!)
As a student who doesn’t do an arty subject, I’ve found this tablet really really useful for the price that it is worth and the fact that it doesn’t break the bank as much compared to buying a new laptop. I’d suggest if you’re a student who’s arty that perhaps you’d need to research more regarding the tablet’s use of video/photo rendering and using drawing apps/photoshop compared to other devices.
I know I have read some reviews that say the system can’t handle as much, but for me it is fast and apps load faster than my old tablet- NowTv in particular.
There are some handy little apps preloaded, such as the Air Command, Pen Up, Translate and Screen Write etc. – this tablet could be handy for professionals. The camera is good, giving you quality pictures and there are various features, however there is only a flash on the front camera. I’ve watched a few things and the sound quality is adequate.
I think everyone would agree that the s pen is a great bonus, as it interacts with the tablet very nicely and I like the choice to either type or write by hand using the s pen. The pen attaches to the sides of the tablet magnetically, which holds very well. Not sure if it would get lost or knocked off on your travels, will have to see. I have read you need to replace the nib, but at the moment there does not seem the availability to do that, so we will have to see about that. The tablet itself seems sturdy and can probably take a knock or too, time will tell.
Ok, so now onto the cons.
A feature I’ve noticed absent with this tablet is no vibration option in the sound settings. I kind of liked this option as you could hear/feel calls etc when the sound may have been missed. While I love the colour and quite like the shape of the tablet, I think it is a tad on the heavy side compared to previous tablets, you would think the more they advance the lighter they’d be. It maybe something to do with the magnet part of the design.
My biggest annoyance about this tablet is the cable and plug that come in the box- the cable is stupidly short and at least half the size of my old one (which has the old connection, so no use there). The plugs plastic material feels very cheap. Now I don’t know about anyone else but I like working on the tablet while it is charging and the old lead was long enough to do that. Not this one. Just because it is a cheaper model, doesn’t mean you have to skim on the basics!
Although there are preloaded apps I like, there are some i don’t but you can’t uninstall them- slightly annoying for you memory. I shopped around for cases, although it seems like there is a limited range being offered at the moment, as I was tempted to buy the Samsung book cover case to match the angora blue, but at 59 I thought no way. I found a cheaper, pretty cover for 15 with the same magnetic feature!
So all in all, I would recommend this tablet from the point of view that in comparison to my old Samsung Tab S it is definitely worth the upgrade. The tablet is good for browsing the internet, taking photos, Streaming Netflix and Now TV, as well as reading ebooks.
**April 2022: Updated to Android 12**
**March 2021: Updated to Android 11 and now includes Samsung DeX**
I bought this primarily for web browsing, streaming films and television (Netflix, Now TV, iPlayer, etc.) and casting music stored on the memory card I’ve inserted into it to my Sonos speakers. It arrives with Android 10 which should upgrade over time to at least Android 12. It’s longer and thinner than the Galaxy Tab S3 it’s replacing and you get less top and bottom borders when watching widescreen productions. The bezels are thin but wide enough for you to comfortably hold the device without obscuring the screen and I like the floating function keys that rotate with the screen. Build quality is good and it’s thin and not noticeably heavy to hold.
There’s lots of preinstalled Samsung bloatware, including their ‘Bixby’ virtual assistant. Some of it can be uninstalled, some cannot. You’ll need to go into the settings and turn off notifications for any bloatware you don’t require but can’t uninstall and there is the option to send some of it into a ‘deep sleep’, ensuring that it doesn’t eat up battery life and processing power.
Obviously some corners have been cut to reflect the price and the ‘Lite’ name — two speakers instead of four, TFT screen (the colour is not as rich and deep as OLED) and 4GB of RAM, but the screen, sound and overall performance and speed are impressive for a tablet in this price range. You can have a lot of apps open and running concurrently and it copes with ease. The S Pen is responsive and attaches itself to the side of the device by magnet. Ideal for artwork and writing, it’s also useful for using instead of a finger in general use. Both cameras are more than adequate.
Battery life is especially good and lasts for hours and a full charge from empty takes approximately 3 hours. It arrives with a USB-C lead and a USB wall plug. I use an AmazonBasics 6′ USB-C to USB-C cable and USB-C wall plug to charge the device. A full charge using this configuration takes 2 hours and it shows as ‘Fast charging’ in the notification panel.
I’ve inserted a 400GB San Disk Micro SD card filled with thousands of FLAC files and it casts them without problem to my Sonos speakers or I can listen to them with Bluetooth headphones (or wired – it has a 3.5mm headphone jack).
Overall, I’m very happy with this tablet. There are better and more expensive Samsung devices available, but for basic home use this is fit for purpose.
I mostly use the tablet for web browsing and photo editing. As a web browser, there’s nothing to complain about. The screen is big enough to make desktop view viable, and the pen is precise enough to make navigating sites in this view a breeze.
It is also a capable photo editor! Again, the screen is big enough and bright enough to give you a great view. Lightroom works well but it’s here where I’m more aware of the ‘lite’-ness of the tablet. Loading up big RAW files can take a few seconds, and there is a small delay when adjusting some sliders. But the loading times and delays are never so long as to frustrate or interrupt my flow of work.
Lastly, the free (at time of writing) book cover. I wondered how such a thing could possibly be valued at 60, but mine has just arrived and I’m pleased to say it is of brilliant quality. I’m not sure what material it’s made of but it feels very sturdy indeed. The tablet snaps into it snugly with reassuringly strong magnets, can stand at a couple of different angles and the dedicated space for that precious pen is appreciated, too. If you’re reading this and the free offer is still going, go for it!
I suppose I should mention some negatives, actually. There is no dedicated means to attach a keyboard (and the book cover won’t accommodate one either) so you need to find a wired or blutooth solution if you need to be able to type properly. The battery life is fine but not amazing – I charge about every other day. And while the screen can be very bright, it is also very reflective. I find myself struggling to see past my own reflection when outside on a sunny day. But that’s about all I can say.
Overall, a great tablet! It’s the pen that makes it and you won’t find any equivalent at this price, so definitely go for it if you like the look of the pen and its functionality.
