I use it to store my photography. If you run on Windows do search online for performance tweaks as there is some latency when accessing. Once I tuned caching etc the device worked perfectly

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersAs a business owner, I’ve found the SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD to be an absolute game-changer. I’ve purchased several for my team, and the performance is unmatched. Its USB-C connectivity offers lightning-fast data transfer, crucial for our high-paced environment. The 1TB capacity is a blessing, handling extensive data with ease.

What really stands out is its durability. It’s survived a few accidental drops, thanks to the robust build. Plus, its compact size makes it perfect for on-the-go tasks and travel.

Overall, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is a reliable workhorse for any business, offering both speed and security. It’s a well-deserved 5-star product in our books.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThey say that one of the best things you can get for an old PC or lap too is a faster hard drive. Whilst I fully subscribe to this and use the latest storage for my operating system, I’ve often deferred to cheaper older SSDs for media storage. It works well enough and I’ve never really given it much thought.
When this came up on Black Friday deals I took the opportunity to upgrade my portable storage. I had a nearly 2TB of data that transferred over in just shy of 4 hours and boy can you tell the difference when you use the new SSD. When you have a large amount of files, this displays them all straight away without waiting for the thumbnails to come up. It’s so much faster and makes sorting files a real breeze. If you have a stack of photos that need sorting or have videos to edit, I would highly recommend upgrading to this. Also, by not being a mechanical drive it’s a more secure way to store things.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBought the 2tb version of this SanDisk portable SSD and it is perfect for storing all our photos and videos from travelling. It can be easily connected straight to your phone to add or remove photos and videos. Its so small and lightweight making it easy to bring it with you wherever you go. The price is extremely competitive making this great value for money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Massive storage at a great price!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat, although I wish there was a way to magnetically stick it to my laptop 🙂

If you use a Mac reformat this to HSFS, as that will avoid some of the risks when unplugging the drive. I did trash mine by unplugging carelessly

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGone are the days of waiting hours for slow transfers. An SSD drive is one of the fastest for large file transfer. The Sandisk extreme portable SSD is smaller than my iPhone and fits into the palm of my hand.

It is lightweight compared to my Western drive, and feels rugged to take everywhere with me. Comes with additional adaptors to use the traditional USB A ports but I highly recommend using the USB C.

5.0 out of 5 stars portable and super fast transfers

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI knew these back-up drives were getting smaller, but I really hadn’t realised how small this one is. And the little cut-out in the top corner means you can loop it onto something so you don’t lose it. Have done one back-up and it was super fast.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersReally nice small hard drive however I have notice it does lag a bit going between folders, not all the time, thought ssd was meant to quicker than hdd but I’m not sure it is.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI primarily brought this drive to use with my MacBook and Time Machine backups. I used to use a smaller thumb sized 2TB drive and these backups would often take over a day to complete, and would very often fail or time out. Upon receiving this the first thing I did was set up this drive with Time Machine, and the first backup completed 150GB in under 45 minutes, a drastic improvement.

The drive is nice and wallet sized, and fits in my rucksacks pockets when I am away. The only draw back is the cable is very short. It is fine when using my laptop at a desk, but when I use it on my lap the drive just dangles by the wire. Being a USB-C connection does allow any wire to be used, which is also handy. The inclusion of a USB-C to USB-A conversion cable is also a bonus.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs a photographer, I need plenty of storage. This is a small and portable device that I can carry with me anywhere. It has extremely fast transfer speed which saves me a lot of time. I have been using Sandisk for years and I have quite a few of their products. They have been completely reliable and durable. Highly recommended and worth every penny!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is my second drive; having upgraded from various smaller capacity m.2 drives in enclosures. I loved the first so much that I purchased a second as a data backup.

Small enough to be ultra portable, with enough capacity to hold large art and music projects. The speed is such that I can run vst instrument libraries/audio projects from it should I wish.

Great fit and finish, this feels like a quality product- the inclusion of both usbc-c and usba-c cables is a nice touch.

    Highly recommended

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThe drive has a security feature by Sandisk which requires a password to unlock the drive, this is a good feature to have but the password box enters white text on a white background which makes it very annoying to use, error handling is terrible also.

It’s a shame because the physical device and performance is great, but they’ve shot themselves in the foot for a great all round product because the software part is annoying to use and makes the experience annoying.

Small, Good storage, but seldom reaches high R/W speeds, even connected to and to 11th gen I7 SSD laptop, so for me has some limitations, I have a 4tb standard drive with better read write speeds, but it is small form factor of this drive that makes it useful.

No issues with it apart from this.

Super little drive, didn’t seem worth the extra for the Pro version given the mind-boggling USB compatibility maze of specs. So good, I bought another.

They are not much different but extreme and extreme pro are not the same and can be overlooked sometimes.

This onehave little bit different shape than extreme pro but this can be totally ignored as read and write speeds are so similar.

Brilliant portable HD. I’ve been using it for video editing projects and speed is fantastically good. Has USB C connection only so if you need a USB port then don’t worry it comes with a little connector. I would buy again.

Excellent Product should be a little cheape

I use it as my main SSD on my M2 Mini and it flies! I couldn’t be more impressed. I moved 29Gb worth of data in one go and it took it less than 30sec to complete! I was a bit weary it would require formatting when using a Mac, but it was plug n play, so that also was super convenient!

    Highly recommend

A good quality, fast SSD. I thought this would be a bulkier unit however it’s actually quite small. Stores everything I need it to for my P.C / Mac and is rugged enough to last until failure.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought this for video editing – to use as a work drive, storing the original RAW footage (regularly backed up, obviously) while working in Final Cut Pro.

This handles the transfers effortlessly and allows me to edit 4k footage with numerous effects applied, without dropping frames (Macbook Pro M1 Max) – all while working on the footage stored on the Sandisk SSD, not my internal SSD..

I’ve thrown a lot of work at it and it gets warm, but never hot. It’s small and convenient to carry, fits in a jacket pocket or a backpack pocket quite easily as it’s remarkably thin.

    Can’t fault it.

I’d previously purchased a cheaper SSD with very disappointing results. Very hit and miss loading and very slow file transfer. But with this sandisc SSD it’s incredibly easy to use and easy file uploading. I can highly recommend this product.

This SSD is great and is smaller than it looks in the pictures. Which is what you want. No issues but I wouldn’t recommend using preinstalled software that comes with it. If you do you make sure you learn how it works first.
It is also overheating when transferring large amounts of data for a while. I don’t know if that’s a problem or not but it could be if SSD is covered and not cooled down. When you touch it it is actually hot but you can still hold it without getting burned. I’m sure SanDisk know what they are doing and it is not a real threat to the device.

What’s not to like? Works well with my Mac. Use it to manage and backup my Mac Photo Library. Speed is excellent. It does get warm under load, but that’s to be expected. Wish the provided cable was slightly longer, but that’s being petty.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI was a little worried given this did seem to be a little cheap and then I remembered that before Christmas the 1TB version was about 85 so this was maybe a good price point. It certainly does what I need it but truth will be in the pudding as I am planning on using it for DJing this very night of writing this review! It works fine in my Pioneer equipment so here’s hoping it does on some other different Pioneer equipme

A small and fast 1Tb SSD. It comes with password protection using 128-bit AES encryption, though for many this can simply complicate things – but its there if you want it!

Not bad for the price [99] and would certainly buy another. Can’t comment on how reliable it is for the long term, but suffice to say it is one of several back-up devices I possess.

    Small and powerfull

Golden Review Award: 65 From Our UsersMy main reason for buying this 1TB ssd was for when I travel and and have lots of camera footage to backup from my shoots.
Portability was a big factor, and hoping it would work with iphone (since there isn’t a lot of info on it)
The ssd itself works well however max transfer speed I’ve seen so far is approx 270 MB/S on magicbook pro using default hardware, nonetheless faster than my other HDD’s. I have noticed it heat up a lot in use, more than the 500gb version. In terms of wire / usb-c port connection, it feels a little flimsy and weak. The ssd has a front patterned surface and a rubber back both of which seem to attract dust.

Now onto iphone connection…I have tried both the 1TB and 500GB versions (with the supplied usb-c to usb adapter), both work with iphone (12 mini) via a genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter (make sure adapter is original as fake / defective wires have given me an unpredictable intermittent connection). In my experience the 1TB ssd loaded faster than 500GB on iphone.
Now Iphone allows you to view ssd contents BUT as soon you start saving iphone files onto it or tinkering with the ssd’s data you get the infamous ‘This accessory requires too much power’ sign. Even if you re-connect the ssd, once the sign appears once it keeps coming back. What worked to reverse it for me was actually connecting it to a laptop and deleting the iphone files saved on the ssd or the folders where data was altered. Another option is to scan for errors (whilst plugged into the computer), even if there are no errors I found that often the ssd starts working without needing ‘extra power’. Another option to try, this has given mixed results tbh is to connect the ssd to iphone whilst it is switched off then turn it back on and see if the sign reappears.

If you definitely want 2-way iphone-ssd use then you will need a power hub to power the hardrive (and also bypass the ‘…requires too much power’ message, or if none of the above options work to get rid of the message). I bought the ‘…RSHTECH 5 Port USB 3 Hub with 4 USB 3.0 Data Port + 1 Fast Charging Port Portable USB Splitter with 12V/2A…’ because it provided more power i.e 24W compared to similarly priced 5-port power hubs – so far so good! As a bonus iphone was able to read both ssds (1TB + 500gb) at once when plugged into the power hub.

In terms of folder load time there was no difference for me using a power hub vs none. I didn’t notice a difference in performance or predictability between an old iphone lightning cable vs latest lightning to usb-c cable. I have tried iphone (with ssd connected) plugged into a usb wall socket vs plugged into an apple 30w adapter, again no obv difference.

Another point to mention, with big folders around 90gb (raw files/4k videos) my iphone struggled to read the content despite loading for 20+ mins? The successful cut off for me has been around 65gb folder size max, anything larger definitely gets divided into smaller folders. I did notice some large 4k videos load slowly and freeze midway, but the ssd did let me save them directly on my iphone despite this so was able to view them better that way.

My Sandisk ssd-iphone experience so far (in summary):
Option 1 – viewing/saving ssd content on iphone -> no power hub required
Option 2 – deleting/altering ssd content and/or saving iphone content onto ssd -> power hub required

Hope that helps, I struggled A LOT to find info on iphone sandisk ssd connection so thought I’d share all of my recent findings.

On a sep note – the ssds worked absolutely fine with ipad Air 4th gen utilising it’s usb-c port so no adapter required. Literally a case of plug and play – and definitely a lot faster than on iphone.
