Great buy holds stacks easy to use would buy agai
10 months in & so far so good! Super quick as a backup drive, easy to access previous backups, sturdy. Really happy purchase.
It’s exactly what I needed my laptop only has so much memory and I can’t download all the games I wanted so I got this and it’s been grea
Super easy plug in and use USB, chunky but sturdy
This is a good external hard drive, but it is not plug and play… or rather it is, but you might have to first format it before it can be used on your PC. This is what I had to do.
This is my 3rd Seagate portable hard drive purchase, not because the others have failed but because I trust them.
This was bought to expand the wife’s Xbox memory and works faultlessly, as does the one I use on my Xbox. The 3rd is for storing photos, videos and files etc…
If you need a hardrive get a Seagate, not a cheap one, they don’t work.
Super happy with this one, have bought a couple more since as they’re so lightweight, reasonably priced and offer good options for storage capacity
Despite getting this in May, I`ve only been using it a couple of weeks due to work delays; I`ve has Seagate external drives before — first thing I noticed with this one was how flimsy and plastic the external housing of the unit felt — not as reassuring as my previous drives or those from other companies.
So far, the drive is working fine; it is a plug-and-play unit, comes with a warranty, works with my Windows PC and does the job as expected.
Okay for the asking price — I trust it will continue with no problems.
We were able to back up an ailing computer before it dies. The test will be if we can load it on a new computer when the time comes.
Very easy to use and safe way to keep a backup or simply expand your starage capacity.
This is the perfect solution to backing up onto USBs or discs. Everything in one portable place and with a case, you can carry it around. Can be set up with password access or not.
Bought for my daughter to back up her university work. She found it easy to use and says it’s great.
Excellent. Don’t need to say more really. Portable, loads of storage space. All good.
We have a few expensive scientific equipment and their setup is always a nightmare. Therefore we do regular backups of the full system. These HD are a blessing! Not too expensive, portable and easy to use. So far so good!
Drive is for storage of photographs which I will be able to carry around with me to show other family/friends holiday pictures etc..
The plastic cover gives it a fragile appearance. But it came with a technical support flyer and it worked quite well. I would take it to situations where the endurance of the case would be tested, but since it was my second backup intended to be in a drawer, I think it is a good value for the money spent.
The drive requires formating to use with macbooks. I just followed the detailed instructions on their website (very straightforward) and have had no issues so far. Happy with the transfer rate (done about 100gb) and I detected no overheating or errors so far.
The drive is supplied with a Type-A to Micro-B so I did buy an Amazon Type-C instead at the same time as I don’t really like using adapters.
Like most of us, I keep most photo albums on my phone. Like some of us, my phone crashed. This portable device was recommended by family and it did not let me down. It is easy to set up, use and great to keep my family photos and videos safe.
I do a lot of travelling; visiting several different locations during the year. It is a pain to take my laptop with me all the time, so I load up my portable hard disc with work files and entertainment. Then I just borrow a local computer to do any necessary work. Of course the hard disc is protected against viruses and zombies. The great thing is that I can carry my disc in my jacket, which cuts down the chance of losing my data if I am separated from my luggage at any time.
A very good product, I’m already an owner of a larger Seagate terabyte drive and its given me no problem’s in 3 years. The tiny drive is so quiet you have to check that the white power light is on . It is very fast read and write and at first I thought they had sent me an SSD instead of a 2.5″ drive, super piece of kit .
Works instantly, light-weight and extremely good value for money. Only slight concern is that plug on supplied lead is a very tight fit to the drive, but doesn’t seem to be damaging it in fitting and removing. Very pleased overall.
I wouldn’t say I like or dislike, because I couldn’t understand it.
It was too advance for me.
I ordered the wrong one, Only I need a simple USB.
Thanks.
I already had one of these but bought one for my daughter whose Windows laptop failed recently. Well, the hard disk did anyway. I think she’s learnt her lesson having lost photos, work files etc. The 1Tb is more than sufficient for most domestic, non-techy users to backup their data and the device is plug and play, both for Windows and Linux.
Compact and easy to install, just plug into a usb port and it appears on your list of available drives. If you need more storage capacity or off site back up facility this is a simple inexpensive answer from a reliable manufacturer. Pity the description didn’t say it was supplied with a cable as this would have saved me buying one I don’t need!
I bought this HDD and a WD 2 TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive – USB 3.0, Black for comparison as I wanted to back up my Macbook Pro for a ‘worst-case scenario’ type event, utilising both Apple’s TimeMachine and CarbonCopyCloner as the software.
Working in media, I often have a full-harddrive with plenty of valuable digital assets which are big in size and also often need the ability to archive. So having something reliable which can be quickly plugged in to take a snapshot of my machine, just in case something terrible happened.
It’s now been almost a year of doing a variety of things including moving house, finishing some big projects and regularly backing up my drives.
The build quality of the Seagate drives is lesser than that of the WD counterpart, however, the recognising of the drive and general connectivity of the Seagate seems to be more efficient and reliable than that of the WD drive. That being said, I am now encountering more read errors on the Seagate drive and think it might be on the border of being corrupted very soon.
If that does indeed happen I will update my review and outline the outcome. However, for the price and offering of it just being a quick and dirty way to keep some sort of backup, I think it’s worth it. But if you are in the market for having one secure, reliable and long-lasting backup drive I would probably spend a bit more and go for an SSD.
I’ve been using this on my xbox series S and it’s been perfect for me, The only issue i’ve encountered is that it can’t play newer games that are S/X suited (Call of duty Vanguard S/X version Forza Horizon 5 etc) so if you want a hard drive for that purpose i recommend looking into one that’ll allow it but this hard drive has helped me out massively and is extremely portable due to being small and lightweight!
This was to create a new PC backup. A function it appears to do well. It was a little fiddley to set up as my antivirus software seemed to resent the intrusion in to the realms of its cloud storage.
Lost a lot of photos many years ago and now back them up constantly to the cloud and also 4 of this type of unit. Bit paranoid now. This is a nice unit. Plug into USB port and it’s ready to go. Just sag whatever you want to it and it’s backed up. Also vey light and portable. Well worth the money for piece of mind.
I have a xbox series s and I ran out of storage. Was not prepared to pay a lot of money just to get a storage to play games from. Yes I can’t play x/s games from the hard drive but I transfer from external to internal drive it takes about 10 mins to do. Happy with this item now I can have more games than before.
Bought this to take Raw photo files off my over-full MacBook Air and use as storage while on holiday, for copying over to my desktop machine at home. Will probably use it for music recording too. Works a treat, just plug it in and the Mac recognises it, eject like any other removable media. Transfer rates are more than adequate.
The only note is that for Mac use you need to format it properly for MacOS with Disk Utility, and format the whole drive, not just the default mounted volume. See others’ reviews for more detailed notes on this.
HAVENT HARD DRIVES COME A LONG WAY? MY OLD HD WAS 2TB, IT WAS 17X11X3 CM ABOUT THE SIZE OF A BOOK AND MAINS POWERED.
THE NEW SEGATE DRIVE WAS 11X8X1CM, SMALLER THAN AN OLD IPHONE! IT WAS POWERED BY THE USB PORT LIKE A MEMORY STICK.
IT FORMATS IN MS-DOS(FAT). WHICH MEANS IT WILL PLAY ON MOST TVS. IVE OVER 800gb, FILLED IT WITH IN EXCESS OF 500 FILMS WHICH IT REPRODUCES PERFECTLY. VERY VERY CHUFFED WITH THIS NEW BIT OF KIT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE SELLER AND PRODUCT
This hard drive works as soon as you plug it in to the USB port. No formatting needed. I bought this to download all my downloaded tv programmes from my computer to make more space . So easy to transfer from computer to hard drive and it has enough memory for all my needs at the moment.
So pleased with it I might order another one in the future.
i was so pleased with it that i did order another one and it works perfectly just as the first one did.
I purchased the Seagate Portable Drive due to having so many images, files and work which I needed to make sure I didn’t loose from my windows laptop as it wasn’t performing like it used to. I am now using a MacBook Air and noticed that some of my files haven’t shown up. So need to now buy the right USB – Type C adapter or connection wire so all my folders and the Seagate information show up. I might be looking for tech help if I struggle with this. But overall I’m happy so far, I just want to make sure that when I get the adapter for this that all my saved work shows up on my laptop.
I initially bought this for my cousin who is in university as his laptop did not have enough storage (only 64gb). He received this product and now has enough storage to store his work for the end of university. Although it does not give you the fast speeds of an SSD this is a great option for storing work and even backing up important files, which my cousin does regularly. He has been using this product for over a month now and has not experienced any issues. Would highly recommend this amazing product!
Moving files and photos and irreplaceable stuff around and rebuilding after a malware attack, I thought I had better start being serious about backup, I have several copies of everything but have not centralised and planned properly. This was a reasonable price and plenty big enough so I bought one and it arrived quickly at which point I plugged into a spare USB3 socket on my desk and copied a huge stack of files. It was not instant, it is not SSD, but it was quick enough (it’s for backup) for my needs. It worked out of the box and it sits out of sight because it is so small.
Whilst I am happy that the product has arrived and is in working order, the product is advertised as a 1Tb hard drive. However, after plugging it in it shows the maximum capacity it has is 913gb with 15mb taken up as what I am guessing is the systems it comes with. There is nearly 100gig missing!
It works fine, storage is a little less than it says but that’s normal – these kind of stuff are never actually full capacity. Does what it’s meant to do, easy to set up, I bought it because I got a new MacBook and needed to transfer data. Feels very light and plastic though, almost empty and fragile. Not really great for travel purposes I guess due to lack of durability, just home use for norms.
I’m so pleased we finally got around to purchasing ourselves an external hard drive. There’s a lot of choice out there, but looking at all the pro’s and con’s of those available, I thought this one stood out from the crowd. We have lots of copies of legal documents/letters/university course work etc that we didn’t want to risk losing. We also have several thousand photo’s taken during our memorable world travels – so it was most important to us that we keep back-up digital copies.
Let me tell you that I’m a 64 year old technophobe, yet even I found it easy to transfer all our important ‘stuff’ onto this drive. I would say that within 15 minutes I had all of our chosen files on this drive. Really, if you know how to transfer files onto a conventional memory stick then you’ll intuitively be able to use this Seagate portable drive.
For peace of mind, we’ve now got our Seagate hard drive safely stored away in a dust-proof, moisture-proof, anti-static case, of which there are many on Amazon to choose from. We’re very pleased with this hard drive, so I have no hesitation in recommending it to you.
I purchased this drive for my xbox and was shocked to find that when i plugged it in my xbox could not download games onto it, after a little research i looked up on youtube the method on how to reformat it for xbox capabilities and surely enough i found a few. Was a really easy process after i was told what to do, then after that it takes about 10-20 minutes for it to reformat and then you device tells you that youve got a whole terabyte extra storage and for me that meant i could re-download all the games i had to delete because of little storage. Overall highly recommend for a long term investment especially for the new consoles coming out this year.
I like the Seagate drive. However, when my Windows 7 computer starts up it delays and won’t continue. I fixed that by ejecting the Seagate drive before the PC was powered down. The eject procedure confirmed it was OK to remove the drive at the USB connection port. Once the PC has started up, I can reconnect the drive properly. I use 360 SEcurity as the program that helps my PC along and also helps install or eject USB drives. The Seagate’s 1 TB storage is OK at this price range and may be considered safer to use than the 2 TB drives but many of the Freeview mp2 files I’ve stored on this drive take up a lot of storage space and yet I’m glad that I’ve got the recordings working with various video players’ PC programs OK. I am thankful for any Amazon discounts I get because I apply these to buying more external drives when I can.
This is probably an issue because of PS4 but you can’t just unplug this from your PS4 when using it as extended storage and plug it into your PC, you will have to reset it via the console and then you will be able to use it again (deleting all of your games on there) and if you want to use it on your PS4 again you will need to format it, resetting all your data from your PC.
You should get two if you plan on using this for both consoles and PC.
