Microsoft really needs to listen to it’s playerbase and make storage affordable for all . If Sony can do it , darn sure Microsoft can do the same . Storage works as it should 920 MB left for storage when connected to X Box Series X. . Next console I will purchase will be based on affordability of storage and capacity ( Most probably Sony .. aaaaaarrgh ) .
Bought for my Series S to boost its memory. I could only save 4 or 5 games on my Xbox before i bought this now i can have double. Its easy to transfer games between Xbox and the actual expansion card and u can transfer games between devices within 2-5 mins depending on size.
It’s over priced thanks Microsoft’s proprietary shenanigans and Xbox users are being held to ransom. Full stars as it is needed and works well
Anyone thinking of buying Xbox should consider Sonys ps5 much cheaper and better to expand storage
Perfect. The only gripe I have is cost. These should really be cheaper than they are when compared to other drives of the same capacity. However, these are designed specifically for XB which will increase production costs. But these must be able to be manufactured cheaper than this now? Either way, I’d still recommend.
This XBOX expansion card is pricey but if you need more fast storage than you have it’s what you need. It’s good that you can take it from one XBOX put it in another and carry on.
I think this memory is good but the price is too high
Expensive but, necessary if you need to add more storage for your Xbos series X/S. Easy to install and set up (on my Series X anyway). Don’t know if you pulled it out and put it back in a few times how durable it would actually be but, I use mine as a perminant add on space as opposed to a portable device. Dropped a star as it is simply to expensive for the amount of storage you get and has a monopoly on the devices.
I got the 1 TB expansion card so I could play the xbox s games direct without having to transfer etc works grea
If you need extra memory on your series S or X then this is the only card you can buy. 1TB or 2TB from Seagate, its great at what it does, simply just plug it into the back of the Xbox and away you go, its very fast at installing and transferring data. Its just a shame these cards are a rip-off when it comes to the price, being forced to use these and pay these prices because there’s no other options. If you need that boost in memory space then this is what you need, over priced but reliable and easy to use.
Hard to review this really, it’s a memory card and gives you extra storage, duh. Super easy to use.
It’s a bit one the Expensive side, But the ability to boot up the games straight from the external hard drive. GREAT!!! Easy to fit, just Plug n Play & your off .
Delivered in good time which was important as it was for a birthday, as described and easy to set up.
Fortunately bought this when offer was on but would still have purchased for standard price anyway. Most games these days on Xbox range from 30-90 gb so storage fills up quick this has really extended the use of the Xbox as doubles capacity and allows to download games from store and play anytime. Please note that disc games bought also take up storage space so this memory card pays for itself. Definitely recommend very esay to set up.
It works seamlessly, you can hot swap it in and out, same speed as internal ssd. Have no worries about space for games now which is great. Shame they are so expensive but after 2 years of minimal storage I had to bite the bullet and shell out for it. Glad I did
WARNING! Originally received an opened box with the card removed. The replacement was thankfully unopened, present and untampered with. My fingers are now crossed that for this card, setup and use are smooth and fault free (I recommend you read other reviews pertaining to the issues of the 2TB card).
Ok it’s made for Xbox. It’s small and out of the way and sits there doing what you paid for it to do. Provide extra storage. Great. You can get much more storage for half the price. I bought it cause I wanted it and thought it was cool and to be honest that’s the only reason you would buy this over other options.
It’s easy to install you just take it out and slot it in on your Xbox series s or x and jus works seamlessly
On major issue is the price! There is just no way round it if you have a series s you need this product, it’s a must have but you might as well bought a series X for how much you would of spend altogether! The price is it biggest downfall!
Just insert it into the relevant socket on the rear of the unit and job done.
Thanks to eagle eyed forum members on ResetERA I got this for a bargain – one happy son who can actually have a few games installed in his Series S.
I bought this to upgrade my Series S storage, instantly recognised and storage increased, games transfer to the card extremely quick and I can also unplug it and plug into my Series X and the games will be playable there also
I am not upto date with all the technology out there these days so it took me a while to choose, but quick simply this did exactly what it said it would. You literally plug it in and go. Can play games loaded to it straight away.
Stores my xbox series x games as described. Small and slots in easily. But, very expensive.
So when you get this item and plug it straight into the console it works, do note the useable space you have on the 1TB stick is 919.9GB free of 920.0GB, that extra 80.1GB you loose is more than likely format software.
Don’t compare this directly to other PC NVME storage drives when comparing prices. These drives are a smaller standard of M.2 drives and are only being made by the one supplier for Microsoft so much economies of scale will mean a more expensive to GB of storage. For Series X/S titles that require the faster storage then this is unfortunately the only option for now. If you need more storage at a cheaper price then you can use other external SSD or HDD drives which will work fine with titles that don’t require the faster internal NVME drive, and will allow you to transfer titles across when you need to. A cheap SATA SSD will be a good drive if you play lots of previous gen titles that don’t require the fastest storage and the Series’s consoles will be able to load the games slightly faster (but individual titles may still be limited but coding or cutscenes that can’t be skipped).
For those of you who still don’t understand how storage measurements work in 2023: it IS what it says it is. For example, 1TB is 1000MB. But most systems don’t calculate space in that way, they calculate it using 1024 so 1TB actually looks less when examined. Why things are done this way, I don’t know.
The speeds of these absolutely miniature expansion cards is insane. Reaching nearly 6Gbps on my Series X and topping out at 3Gbps on my Series S, both speeds are fast enough to copy games in a matter of a few minutes. Velocity indeed.
Games also DO load from them. Any game will work but they are best reserved for Series X/S games. Original Xbox One games will load from a regular external hard drive but X/S will not. They need the speed offered by the internal storage or this expansion card.
Cost is about the only complaint, but most nvme is expensive at the moment and this is no different.
Absolutely excellent. Only niggle is the lack of clear instructions. You honestly don’t need instructions but I didn’t know if I had to plug this into my Xbox series X with it turned off or on. So I plugged it in with everything turned off for safety. Xbox couldn’t read it properly. I then had to remove it and plug it in with the Xbox switched on. This is the correct way to do it by the way. All good and working fine. Just remember to have your xbox switched ON and then plug the memory expansion in. Great piece of kit. It’s just like having more memory in your xbox. Need to change the xbox memory settings to allow the “xbox to choose” where to install games to as well mind.
Plug and play, it is just a memory card at the end of the day. Essential if you play more than a handful of games and removes hassle of storing games on an external but not fast drive/ constantly downloading.
Simplest thing to use, self installed instantly but the price is daylight robbery. More ssd makers need to enter the market and compete as this is far more expensive than ssd storage on PlayStations where there is competition and more standardised storage media.
Got the 512Mb expansion when price dropped to 85. It’s still quite expensive but probably worth it if you’re impatient like me and can’t be bothered waiting when moving new gen content between ssd and external hard drive.
It is just plug and play so is very easy to set up.
The one I ordered came from Italy so took 6 days to arrive but I knew that when ordering.
While I put this off, because these ain’t cheap, I bit the bullet because this was a good price and they’re only going to get more expensive.
Is it worth getting one? Well, if you play a range of games concurrently then yes. While you can buy a cheaper external hard drive and swap games on and off internal storage, having that extra 1TB means you can keep more of today’s huge games at your fingertips without worrying about space.
Installation is stupid easy and certainly more straightforward than a PS5 although you pay a bit extra for the convenience. That they are so easy to install also allows you to swap additional units out, if you have the money to spend.
Overall a great addition to your console.
Got an Xbox One X? Need more storage?
This is the Seagate Storage Expansion Card For Xbox Series X/S 1TB Solid State Drive, Available In 1 or 2TB.
This 1TB card is an essential bit of kit if you own an X, as that 1TB of memory soon runs out with the next gen games. More so if you have a Series S with it’s pitiful storage.
Maybe in a world where we are heading into cloud play, there is still a load of us who like to own the game. If you are using your console to it’s full capabilities you will need to buy the Series X versions of the games, and with this, they will need to be on either internal storage, cloud play or saved to this SSD slot in card. You will NOT be able to play Series X games from a normal external hard drive, even though you can save here and then reinstall to internal if needs be. A bit of a faff.
Overall I’d recommend this slot in SSD card, as it saves keep moving games around and reduces stress. OK it isn’t cheap, but I think you’ll find you will need it to double up on yer Series X storage.
Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S 1TB Solid State Drive
A must have if you have a large catalog of games. While the next gen systems are 1TB is size depending on the games that are installed your going to be using this storage up extremely quickly and you will be needing additional storage. While the older generation you could simply add an external HDD to expand the storage with the series X/S this root is closed off and your going to need one of these.
While Microsoft have given exclusive rights to Seagate this is the only way of expanding your storage at this moment of review.
What i like about this expansion card is it small from factor, the performance is as fast as the internal SSD its a few second slower in loading and copying however, its still fairly quick all while being extremely easy to install.
The one thing i dislike is the cost for 1TB hopefully over time this will come down price, while also the size of storage should go up in size as 1TB is still small with the size of games and the updates that accompanies them.
I got this for my XBox Series X as I wanted to use it as a back up source for the games currently installed on my XBox. Games can be so large in file size nowadays that even with a fast broadband connection they can take some time to download. So, by backing up all my games on this, I can quickly restore them if I ever had to remove any of the games, or factory reset my XBox.
The first thing that struck me when I received this drive was how tiny it was. It fits in the palm of my hand as shown in my picture.
Installation of the drive is so easy that my cat could do it. Simply plug it into the expansion port at the rear of your XBox Series X – and that’s it. No formatting, no setting up. Nothing.
I have about 500GB of games and data on my XBox’s 1TB capacity, but the speed at which this external device copies data from the XBox is phenomenal. In just a few minutes everything had been backed up onto this drive.
Yes, it’s a vary pricey product at 220, but it’s certainly worth it.
If you are looking for an external source to back up all your XBox Series X games, then this is the one for you.
I am not sure if you could actually install and run games from this external device, as I have not tried that.
Okay, I’m going to mention the elephant in the room and say that this is an expensive investment, and SSD’s are in fact quite expensive to begin with, however I’ve got to commend the design team on just how small and portable this SSD is. It’s extremely simple to use, you simply insert it into the expansion slot at the back of your Series X or S and it does the rest for you, if there’s no space on your consoles internal SSD then it’ll automatically install to the portable expansion card. The counter argument to why it’s expensive is because it uses the same architecture inside of the Series X, so games will play and feel as if your playing them from the internal SSD itself. There’s no compromise whatsoever, to quote Bethesda, it just works! I feel in this day and age games are so big these days that it’s almost a given that you’ll need to shell out for extra storage. Of course you can run older back compat games from your already current external hard drive but the caveat there is that you won’t be able to play any of the Series X or S optimised games from that hard drive, you’ll either need to have them installed via internal SSD or the storage expansion card.
So to summarise, I think it’s a brilliant piece of tech and it’s definitely essential I’d say if you’re a serious gamer, it does almost cost as much as the Series S and nearly half that of the Series X but it’s just convenience and doubles your storage in the process. You could argue that Microsoft could have expanded the internal storage but same issue, the consoles price itself would increase. While it’s not essential for the casual gamer that maybe only goes between a few games every couple of weeks, I’d say it’s a great purchase if you have the money to spare and if you game quite a lot!
