Quick delivery and really easy set up – just plug and play. Easy to operate once connected to the Xbox. Made gaming a better experience for an impatient 15 year old.
I cannot give a review for this item as yet as I am returning it for a replacement, drive arrived in a un padded envelope and posted through a letterbox three foot high onto a concrete tiled floor, I’m just not sure if the drive is damaged or will last, not prepaired to keep it, Amazon customer services have been very good and offered a quick replacement and free return delivery. I am not blaming the driver totally because the packaging could have had more protection, these drives are normally excellent last one lasted 6 years of daily pas4 then Ps5 use.
All good very expensive though is the only thing. I have no problems with it yet, but only time will tell. Good to have the extra storage with the SSD.
Thought having the xbox series X with 1TB would be enough storage for me tbh as most the time when I’m finished with games I delete them to add more in the future but then buying the new call of duty games etc take some much storage up so needed more storage and would of liked the cartridge one like the old playstation one’s but they’re over priced as cost more with less storage then the seagate hard drives so got it for a Christmas present and surprised how small and compact it is,the USB cable isn’t very long tbh but use it from the port on the front of the console and tucked away up the side
Like the green light and so easy to set up and use and always transferring from main storage to hard drive,I’ve heard that you need to keep series s/x games on console to play but shouldn’t be a problem as its easy enough to transfer back and forth
I bought this to hold a large collection of media, and whilst it cannot boast the speeds of SSD or NVMe, what it does have is capacity…. a lot of it!
There is plenty of competition for gaming products and storage is no different. Usually a ‘gaming’ storage product would try to differentiate itself by having faster read/write speeds, but Seagate have marketed this product firmly in the large capacity category.
The drive itself is not too big, and comes with customisable LED light effects that can sync with Razor gaming equipment, but they don’t really add anything for me. The performance is reasonable for a spinning disc, with retrieval of documents, video and photos at an acceptable level.
Seagate are known for making good hard drives, so I expect this will last a while, but they also have a data recovery service, allowing you a single lab based attempt to recover your data in the event of a failure. This is a nice touch, but in practice, an online backup service is probably still required for most people.
There are more secure ways to store data locally, but for the price, this drive represents good value for money and is certainly doing a good job for me so far.
It’s over priced thanks Microsoft’s proprietary shenanigans and Xbox users are being held to ransom. Full stars as it is needed and works well
Anyone thinking of buying Xbox should consider Sonys ps5 much cheaper and better to expand storage
This is a great way to expand your storage. I bought the 2TB expansion card so you get 1.8 TB free for games and apps which is great. Very happy with my purchase.
Was a little worried as it was an extremely good deal that it may not be a genuine Seagate product.
Couldn’t be easier, just plug into the back, turn your Xbox on and follow the instructions.
Finally can install more than 4 games on my Xbox!
GOT THIS SILLY LITTLE DOO DAD TO GET THE RED DEAD COWBOY GAME AND ARTHUR MORGAN ONE COLD MOFO FO SHO
Price to high ssd cards need to drop in price make more affordable for everyone otherwise it works fine
great item. got loads of storage space now on my series X.. ready for the new upcoming games. thanks.
Easy to use, just plug and play. Great storage. Got it on sale. Very happy
I held off purchasing one of these due to the cost, but finally picked one up for 150
It just makes things so much easier. When having big game on the internal hard drive like Call of Duty or Flight Simulator, other games can end up being uninstalled, or moved to a ordinary hard drive, and so you have to move everything around to play them. Having this expansion drive, just means almost everything you’d want to have, is there as soon as you switch the xbox on.
This XBOX expansion card is pricey but if you need more fast storage than you have it’s what you need. It’s good that you can take it from one XBOX put it in another and carry on.
As much as I absolutely hate the lockdown Xbox have on extended drive space with the new generation it had to be done.
I bit the bullet on this ruddy thing and whilst I’m glad I can now have a slew of old and new titles installed and admittedly cannot fault the product at all for its ease of installation or use – it is grossly overpriced when I look at other M.2’s.
However with games getting bigger and bigger, I felt it necessary, especially when I have the bad habit of jumping between four/five titles!
I purchased the 512gb expansion card on sale and is still around double the price of an equivalent nvme m.2 SSD.
But unfortunately on series consoles this is our only option of the 512gb card there is a usable 460gb
Expensive but, necessary if you need to add more storage for your Xbos series X/S. Easy to install and set up (on my Series X anyway). Don’t know if you pulled it out and put it back in a few times how durable it would actually be but, I use mine as a perminant add on space as opposed to a portable device. Dropped a star as it is simply to expensive for the amount of storage you get and has a monopoly on the devices.
I bought this as I had no room on my Xbox series S, after getting it I can now install many more games without having to constantly uninstall games in order to play another game. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a series S as it offers much more storage and you don’t need to uninstall games to install big games
If you need extra memory on your series S or X then this is the only card you can buy. 1TB or 2TB from Seagate, its great at what it does, simply just plug it into the back of the Xbox and away you go, its very fast at installing and transferring data. Its just a shame these cards are a rip-off when it comes to the price, being forced to use these and pay these prices because there’s no other options. If you need that boost in memory space then this is what you need, over priced but reliable and easy to use.
Fortunately bought this when offer was on but would still have purchased for standard price anyway. Most games these days on Xbox range from 30-90 gb so storage fills up quick this has really extended the use of the Xbox as doubles capacity and allows to download games from store and play anytime. Please note that disc games bought also take up storage space so this memory card pays for itself. Definitely recommend very esay to set up.
WARNING! Originally received an opened box with the card removed. The replacement was thankfully unopened, present and untampered with. My fingers are now crossed that for this card, setup and use are smooth and fault free (I recommend you read other reviews pertaining to the issues of the 2TB card).
Don’t compare this directly to other PC NVME storage drives when comparing prices. These drives are a smaller standard of M.2 drives and are only being made by the one supplier for Microsoft so much economies of scale will mean a more expensive to GB of storage. For Series X/S titles that require the faster storage then this is unfortunately the only option for now. If you need more storage at a cheaper price then you can use other external SSD or HDD drives which will work fine with titles that don’t require the faster internal NVME drive, and will allow you to transfer titles across when you need to. A cheap SATA SSD will be a good drive if you play lots of previous gen titles that don’t require the fastest storage and the Series’s consoles will be able to load the games slightly faster (but individual titles may still be limited but coding or cutscenes that can’t be skipped).
For those of you who still don’t understand how storage measurements work in 2023: it IS what it says it is. For example, 1TB is 1000MB. But most systems don’t calculate space in that way, they calculate it using 1024 so 1TB actually looks less when examined. Why things are done this way, I don’t know.
The speeds of these absolutely miniature expansion cards is insane. Reaching nearly 6Gbps on my Series X and topping out at 3Gbps on my Series S, both speeds are fast enough to copy games in a matter of a few minutes. Velocity indeed.
Games also DO load from them. Any game will work but they are best reserved for Series X/S games. Original Xbox One games will load from a regular external hard drive but X/S will not. They need the speed offered by the internal storage or this expansion card.
Cost is about the only complaint, but most nvme is expensive at the moment and this is no different.
Received my 2TB expansion card today.
Pros:
1. Bumps my total X/S storage up to 3TB from 1TB (1TB internal + 2TB expansion card). Allows me to store and launch Xbox Series X/S enhanced games without having to transfer them continuously between USB drives and internal storage (or having to uninstall games). I still use my USB hard drives to store my library of non-enhanced games.
2. Very very very fast read/write speeds. Mimicks internal storage performance.
3. All I needed to do was plug it in and it worked straight out of the box. It’s also hot swappable.
Cons:
PRICE. PRICE. PRICE.
This thing is CRAZY EXPENSIVE.
Was it worth it?
For me, yes. While it’s dented my wallet quite significantly it allows me to store and launch substantially more X/S enhanced games and since, going forward, newer games will also require the faster storage USB drives are gradually becoming deprecated. Their only use really is for older games. Unless you want to constantly have to move games between USB and internal (a time consuming pain in the bum) consider investing in one of these drives. They’re backed by a 3 year manufacturer warranty as well. Divide 367.59 by 36 and it works out at roughly 10 a month. And that’s not factoring in that, realistically, it’ll continue to last way past the warranty period so realistically it’s probably less.
Should you buy one?
Well that’s entirely up to you. If you’re able to afford one and don’t like having to uninstall or transfer games between slower USB drives and internal storage (which is slow because of the USB drives limited read/write speeds) then go for it. There are 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB options to suit your needs. The 2TB one, while the larger investment, actually offers the cheapest solution of the three. Effectively you’re paying less per gigabyte than with the other 2 cards.
The Seagate Expansion Card is a brilliant product with the ONLY downside being the cost.
The Xbox Series X is a superb console but with a weak point. It only comes with about 800Mb of usable internal storage. In the past that would be plenty but with modern games often needing over 100Gb, you can easily find yourself running out of space. Now add into the mix a family that all like to play different types games and a xbox Game Pass or Ultimate (which we have) and the situation soon becomes desperate.
The only way around the problem (short of deleteing games along with open familily warfare) is to go for additional storage. That just leaves the question of which storage to go for…..
Low cost – buy an external 2TB HDD and plan WAY in advance which games you want to run off the internal memory. Also get used to moving games between the internal and external storage and for that to take ages and ages and ages. If running from the external storage then some games can have reduced features.
Somewhat Expensive – buy an external 2TB SSD and plan in little bit in advance which games you want to run off the internal memory. You will still have to move games between the internal and external but at least you dont need a calander to know when it should be ready. If running from the external storage then some games can have reduced features.
Expensive or Very Expensive – buy A Seagate 1TB or 2TB Expansion card, stick it in and carry on as normal.
As the Xbox only has a ONE expansion slot I chose the 2TB card over the 1TB. The reason being is that its size gives us plenty of storage to seamlessly save, load and play all the families games without having to shuffles which ones are stored where.
