The quality of the Sony SRS-XG500 cannot be faulted. I heard nuances in a soft Schubert Impromptu which have never come through on my car stereo. To test the volume outdoors I rocked it up with Rameau (Foret Paisible, Les Sauvages) from Les Indes Galantes – OMG! My noisy neighbours ran for cover, serves them right!
Sadly I will not be keeping the speaker. I bought this for playing directly from a USB. It will not play recordings on a USB in the correct order, which is a bit useless for classical music. There is no display, either, so you don’t know exactly where you are in the album. Nor will it keep the place in the album. Every time you insert the USB, it starts right back from the beginning. I heard my Schubert about 4 times while I was fiddling with it!
I guess if you have a smartphone this would be a great speaker. For the plug in and play brigade like me, it’s no good. The other minus point is the weight of the item; at 5.6 kg you don’t want to be lugging it too far. I suppose weight = quality so you probably can’t have it both ways.
This is a good solid speaker with a high volume and decent bass. The Bluetooth function is easy to use and voice prompts let you know when you are connected.
The lights can be turned off via a button on the rear of the speaker and a separate free app allows you a few more gimmicky features such as colour selection and “themes” but is nothing outstanding.
Battery life on this is really good and the speaker feels solid and well built, however despite the retractable handle you wouldn’t want to carry this long distances or put it in your hand luggage for example as it is on the heavier side. This is not a negative for me though personally.
I predominately use this for connecting to my Technics BT record player or connect my iphone and have no complaints. This is an excellent speaker from a reputable brand. I look forward to using this at bbq’s when the warm weather arrives
This Sony Bluetooth speaker is easy to set up and sounds good, the good thing is the the charger goes straight into the battery which makes it easy to charge. I am very happy with is item.

The sound quality is very crisp and smooth. Decent bass boom if you want and the battery life is amazing, I charge it up every few weeks and use it most days. Sleep design, it is bigger than it looks on the advert and weighs a good amount. All made up for in quality
Excellent design as usual for SONY, although the sound is just good. Loud enough, but not very crisp. Tone separation is average.

I have always loved the quality of a Sony products. This is a perfect option, as it looks classy, is well built , the speaker the bass boost gives a similar quality to much more expensive equipment and the sound quality isn’t lost as you up the volume. I want to listen to music/audiobooks and with this it does not disappoint.
I love the sound quality of a Sony, from the old separates to headphones, you cannot go wrong. I live in a flat so didn’t want to upset the neighbours but wanted to listen to music that had a good quality that you cannot find in the smaller portable speakers. This is a perfect mid-sized option, looks classy, is well built and did not disappoint.
Precioso altavoz. La parte de fuera es una especie de tela dura. Suena muy bien, los graves que necesites hasta el punto de que en casa le tengo desactivado el megabass porque es molesto. En el mximo de volumen no distorsiona.
Eleg este en vez del JBL porque probndolo en tienda fsica el enlace del bluetooth de este fue inmediato, y con el JBL me cost un poco ms de trabajo.

Had this run in for about 20 hours now with new firmware update. Very impressed with the sound and the power that this things delivers. I use it in the work van while delivering parcels. Sounds at its best in good size room though. The only thing I wish was the soundstage was a bit wider. But apart from that it’s the best buy I’ve made in a long time

1. die Box ist gro und schwer; wer also denkt, er erhlt eine jbl-Gre, kann sich das abschminken. Einen Stern Abzug gibt’s hierfr aber nicht, da man sich das vorher in der Produktbeschreibung anschauen kann und sie dennoch portable ist; einen Kilometer-Marsch wrde ich aber damit ungern machen.
2. Ich wollte nach dem Aufladen die Software updaten. dabei MUSS unbedingt euer Handy mind. 50% aufgeladen sein UND das Gert auf mindestens 95% oder mehr. Selbst der Anschluss an die Steckdose reicht nicht – etwas strange..
Warum das Teil aber vor allem volle Sterne bekommt ist der Sound und die Mglichkeit, den Sound selbst ber die App einzustellen. Bei Zimmerlautstrke – und ich bin eher der Zimmerlautstrke-Typ – habt ihr ehrliche Bsse und eine gute Trennung zwischen Mitten und Hhen. Meine Referenzlieder sind Magic von Coldplay und natrlich Dire Straits – egal was.
Ich brauchte einen Ersatz fr meine Harman Kardon Go and Play, die mit dieser Box nicht mitkommt – zumindest nicht bei Zimmerlautstrke.
Wegen der Gre hatte ich kurzfristig berlegt, ob ich den Blaster zurckgebe; mich aber dagegen entschieden – muss halt jeder selbst wissen. das seitliche Geblinke ist ein nettes Gimmek.
Die Laufzeit wird bei Zimmerlautstrke meines Erachtens drei Stunden nicht wesentlich berschreiten. Das mache ich daran fest, dass ich nach 15 Minuten Spielens und 10 mintigem Laden der Software nur noch 90% Ladekapazitt hatte.
This Sony speaker has pretty decent sound, in terms of both volume and quality. It is intended as a party speaker and with its waterproof capabilities, not just indoor parties.
Inside the box are the speaker and an AC adaptor, plus the instructions. The adaptor has a USB-C connector and the speaker will charge from other sources. The speaker is about the size of a rolled up towel, though it is much heavier than that. The speakers are at either end of the cylindrical shape and have lighting behind the fascia. On the front are six controls: on/off, Bluetooth, Mega Bass, play/pause/phone, volume down and volume up. On the rear, behind a waterproof cover are a USB out, USB-C charging port, audio in, battery level/battery care and a button for turning the lights on and off.
Integration with my Android phone was really straightforward, meaning I didn’t have to go through an annoying process of going into my phone’s settings; it connected automatically. When playing music on Spotify, using the volume buttons on my phone controls the volume on the speaker. My phone also automatically asked to set up ‘find my device’ for the speaker; which is useful if it is ever misplaced, but at best it will only show you where you last connected a device. I haven’t bothered with the suggested app, as I don’t need to control the speaker anymore than I can without it. Also, I’ve switched off the lights, as the are unnecessary for me – maybe if I was still going to parties!
As mentioned above the sound quality is great, although I haven’t tested in a party environment to see if it’s loud enough – which I’m not sure it will be. That said, you do have the ability to link up many other Sony speakers, so that you can increase the coverage of your music.
I haven’t tested the speaker’s waterproof capabilities, though I have no reason to doubt a big company like Sony’s claim of an ip67 rating.
My main use for this is playing music and podcasts around the house and as it is portable, I can take it around with me whilst doing housework. The sounds quality is clear enough, that I don’t have to have the volume up too high to understand speech.
Now this arrives extremely well packaged with a UK and European plug plate which you have to pop on. The instructions are clear and straight forward. The app has helpful hints pop up to help you. You then charge up and you’re ready to go. You need to turn it on to connect the Bluetooth.
You can manually control it or via the app or via your phone. Now as for the sound quality it’s at its best low to medium to medium-high. At the highest setting you start to get distortion but it’s not a hi-fi. The highest volume is extremely loud though that your neighbours would be able to hear if you were attached. The bass gives the music an added warmth to it without it being too heavy. It’s a substantial and heavy unit with solid feet to rest on.(3kg/6lbs) Everything about it is quality as you’d expect from Sony. I’ve been using it on and off for over a week and the battery is still going. 10-minute fast charge will give you 70 minutes of playtime. This speaker categorically outdoes the rest and looks particularly expensive. This is one talented beast of a speaker, bursting with extra features you may or may not need, and it somehow manages to play the party card in one moment and still look demure in your lounge the next, thanks to a few simple taps in Sony’s exhaustive Music Center app.According to Sony, it also permits around three times the amount of data to be streamed over Bluetooth thanks to the use of more efficient coding and “optimised packetization” of the data. All in all, the Sony XG300’s performance leaves me with no alternative but to conclude that it is a very, very good-sounding and extensively featured Bluetooth speaker. It’s also IP67 dust- and waterproof, so is fine for the pool or beach. So if that is what you want and you’ve got the cash, then splash it with confidence as this new model released in July 2022 is superb.

Everything about this speaker just screams quality. The feel of the materials used, the look of it and the sound quality are all top notch.
The sound quality is fantastic. I turned it to max volume and whilst being ridiculously loud there was no distortion. The Mega Bass option provides are really full and rich low end and sounds great even at lower volumes.
Connection was simple via Bluetooth and the accompanying Sony music centre and Fiestable apps allow you to control the light and settings along with being able to create a shared playlist. You can also pair it with up to 100 compatible speakers if you want to spread the sound over a larger area. This feature does make me laugh as at max volume this speaker is incredibly loud. Unless you need to bring an end to a siege you should be fine with just one of these.
All your standard on /off, play / pause, skip / volume buttons are on the front and at the rear are a couple of buttons which turn the lights on and off and give an audible notification of the battery level, when pressed it will say “battery is at 80%” etc. Speaking of the battery, it is huge! With 25 hours continous playback and also allowing you to plug a USB cable in at the back to charge your phone via the speaker. It charges via USB C with a power brick included. It has quick charging at 15w.
It’s just perfect. At time of review it’s listed at 259 which is pricey but when you feel and more importantly hear this speaker you can see where that price tag comes from. I would recommend.
What a class speaker this sony boombox is so great sounding and looks great. the bass is so good and thumping it is
30 hours battery life is more than you will need to keep the party going. The look of the speaker is equally aestheticallies pleasing as well. Whilst it is quite heavies I would definitely recommend it to any interestd purchaser the glowings light is also veey good.
