After comparing the ZV-1 to the G7X MKiii, We brought this to supplement the main camera on our YouTube channel.
The video quality is so high that we now use it as our main camera. It is a tiny pocket rocket of a camera.
The autofocus is amazing, the colours are good and 4k image is great and the audio means we no longer use an external mic.
Cons
stabilisation is only OK, plastic build quality – although glad the money has gone on the insides, unlike the G7x MKiii that looks and feels good, but performs badly.
If you are looking for a compact VLOG camera, this is the one to buy.
Occasionally I shoot live events for clients using a Yolobox and a Sony NX80. I discovered the ZV1 has the exact same sensor as the NX80 (and one would presume the Z90). This means I can get them to match perfectly for quick multi cam live events, and being it’s so small can be placed anywhere for the perfect cutaway shot! Great little camera and the still images aren’t shabby either!
Very very versatile camera for the price. I never owned any compact digital cameras since like 2008. back then was’t anything like this camera for an affordable price range in this category so i put compact cameras into the “nah” category, and moved on with dslrs and later mirrorless cameras to continue my photography with. I’ve unfortunately sold my last camera and lenses a couple of years ago and it always bothered me,that i don’t have fully capable camera with me except for my phone which is being a rugged phone, doesn’t have a good camera by modern standards. i started a little video project not long ago and purchased an osmo pocket as the stabilization and small size really impressed me, and used that camera for my project or in everyday life when i went to do something interesting. i really love my osmo pocket but there’s a lot of limitations regarding both the general usability and video quality. So i decided to buy a more capable camera, that’s still smaller than a dslr and good for video. As i digged deep down in the world of “modern” mirrorless and bridge cameras (as the last time i bought one was 2015) and had to realise that my expectations and budget doesn’t match. Then i found out about the zv1 and after reading a lot of reviews and watching some full “beginner’s guide” videos to learn what is this camera capable of i became aware that this camera only differs from a mirrorless in the sensor size and the inability to change the lenses. after receiving the camera and playing around with it for a couple of weeks,i have to say i’m amazed. In this few weeks this became my favourite camera i’ve ever owned both for photography and videography. The only downside is of course the limited focal lenght but considering that the rx100 that would solve this problem costs twice as much i think this is a very unimportant problem. The camera shoots very and i mean very good videos and pictures, even on a 100% crop the video looks crisp where the osmo pocket failed really hard as it looked more like an upscaled 1080p. the focal range is very useful, basically matches the one of an aps-c or full frame kit lens, except for the F1.8-F2.8 apreture and that in my experience with those kit lens always have some diffraction on footage especially on the edges on the screen but the zv1 looks like more of a pro-sumer lens. I bought this camera for the sole porpuse of making videos but i found myself getting back to photography,my long loved hobby by accident and had a very good and capable device to go with. If you buy the camera better buy a couple of batteries as well even if use it for photography only as they tend to run out faster than other cameras i’ve used before.
If this camera is around your budget and you don’t necceseraly need telephoto capabilities i would say this camera is more than perfect. I’m already excited where will sony take this product line as i see that in 2022 you don’t need to carry around huge camera bodies and lenses for professional looking results as you would back in the day.
Great addition to my usual camera. Easy to use, good screen and video quality. Battery is quite good for such small camera, but would still recommend buying additional one just to be safe 🙂
Really excellent video. Picture stills are amazing too. Stills are not as good as my DSLR, but the size and form factor mean i now ONLY use this camera! I can fit it in my pocket! It gets used 100% more than a huge DSLR so it wins hands down, as i actually use it.
* Photo.
* Stabilisation.
* Pare-vent.
* Autofocus.
* Rglage de l’exposition.
* Qualit d’image.
* Zoom.
* Ecran.
* Poids et encombrement.
* Bmol.
Very good product and decent quality.
The quality of the image is impressive, the quality of the sound is not that good. You have to change configurations if you need to record over 50 minutes because it got hot and turn off.
You need more batteries or a dummy one too.
I use this camera for a month and I am more than impressed. This is my first professional camera for my youtube channel. At the beginning I had difficulties with settings but I watched bunch of tutorials and now I am very happy with the device.
I almost sent this back 3 times, not keen on the limited zoom,I wasn’t used to a pull out screen, and the lens isn’t wide enough,on 4k it is so tight I have to stand 2m further back. The trouble is, even compared to my rx100 mk6, is that the video quality is astonishing. It is so sharp. The face gets priority in any setting, and it’s so sharp, even in low light it looks great. The sound is very good.Looks like I am stuck with i
Edit, my original review is below which is untouched. It still is good.
However, I decided the camera is hampered by not having a large enough field of view.
This is solved with the addition of the Ulanzi wide angle lens. Using the wide angle lens and a small gimbal like the Crane M2/ M3 is a superb setup with active stabilisation off, but the Ulanzi lens makes it much better even with active stabilisation on. So maybe budget to also buy the lens, which also makes the camera heavier and a bit bigger, although it’s still small.
Original review:
I have a Panasonic G9 and a thousand pound worth of lenses for that which shoots sublime video and has amazing stabilisation. However, it’s a pain to lug around, particularly when on holiday. So whilst it’s a fantastic pro level camera, I often was not using it as I simply couldn’t be bothered lugging it around.
I wanted a smaller, compact and easier to transport camera that was more unobtrusive. There’s no perfect camera on the market. The Canon G7X Mk2 only does 1080. The Mk3 is slated for all sorts of issues. Sony has just brought out a new APC ZV, but you need to buy a lens, it’s larger with the lenses on, and it has rolling shutter issues. Having carefully weighed up all the options, I picked this.
I am very pleased. The autofocus is outstanding (something that couldn’t be said of my G9), and in fact is as good as the latest 3000 Sony full frame. That is saying something on a camera of this size.
The stabilisation is OK. Could be better, and it crops in on the full strength setting. There is something called Catalyst Browse, which is free to download to the PC/ Mac, and used the camera’s data to stabilise the image in post. This works really well, but only really at high frame rates, and videographers will know you like to set a 180 degree shutter speed, which basically means twice the frame rate- so 50 or 60 on this when filming 4K 24, 25 or 30 fps (unfortunately it doesn’t do 4K 60fps) which isn’t really a fast enough shutter speed for Catalyst Browse to work at its best. So if you want to use catalyst browse, be prepared to shoot at higher shutter speeds, which isn’t the end of the world if you upload to YouTube. Or just use the inbuilt stabilisation carefully or stick on a gimbal.
The customisation options on the camera are amazing for something like this- again just as you will find on the high end Sony full frame ( older style menu). This means an amateur could feel quite overwhelmed if delving into the menus, but the more experienced will appreciate this. Fortunately the run and gun shooter is well catered for, by just leaving it on auto, but you won’t quite get the top end results you could get by setting it all up manually and shooting in HLG Log profile for example. Then again, I’ve been doing stuff like this for years, and then it all needs editing correctly in post- I just don’t have the time so will probably just shoot on standard with a 180 shutter speed most of the time.
4K footage looks great. I have noticed that even in cloudy light outside I have to apply the built in ND filter when shooting with the aperture wide open and shutter speed at 60. The ND filter is a welcome addition (this is basically sunglasses for your camera so you can keep the aperture open wider in lighter conditions to get the blurred backgrounds) but not strong enough in bright sunlight to mean I still don’t have to close the aperture a bit.
You can buy a unofficial stick on 52mm thread, and add a wide angle lens ( I may not bother as I don’t Vlog, which is where it improves the camera to give more space in shot) or add on a variable, stronger ND filter which I may well get.
Make sure you buy extra batteries. It isn’t bad but you need at least 2 spare, and you can pick up an unofficial charger and 3 batteries for around 20 on Amazon.
Overall, I’m delighted with this tool, and will lose it a lot.
I also got the Sony handgrip free with mine. Maybe it’s not worth 130 but it is an extremely nice tripod and Bluetooth controller, very high quality and I am very pleased with that too.
I bought this as soon as it was released to replace my Canon M50 which was a camera I loved but I needed something lighter and more compact.
I’ve very impressed with the image quality and the plethora of features the ZV-1 has and on the whole I am very pleased with it.
It’s not without it’s faults however and in my opinion, and depending on your style of use, it does need some customisation and accessories to make the most of it.
I have added a Small Rig cage which allows you to mount other items to the camera with ease and also means you can open the battery/SD card door without needing to remove the tripod if you are using one. I also occasionally use an external mic but in all honesty this really isn’t necessary as the built in mic really is very very good and of course keeps the footprint low when travelling. It also gives you a better grip with the camera.
In early 2021 Sony updated the firmware which allows you to use the camera as a webcam (both image and sound – yey!) however you really should use a dummy battery connected to 5v power source as I’ve found that if you use the battery and connect to power the battery will still drain.
I would also recommend a spare battery or two. The batteries are tiny and really don’t last long with heavy use.
Finally I’ve ordered the ULANZI 18mm wide angle lens which attaches via an adhesive mount you screw the lens into. This opens up the field of view a little and very useful.
The main negatives on this camera (which can mostly be sorted with accessories) are the narrow field of view, the poor battery life, the placement of the battery/sd door (not an issue if you use the camera handheld) and the image stabilisation whilst ‘good’ simply cannot compared to say a modern iPhone/GoPRo/DJi Osmo Action. (I have a Zhiyun Crane M2 gimbal for this). Finally the screen isn’t a full touch screen, you can only touch to focus or track an object.
Overall a great camera that can suit many different needs from point and shoot, to vlogging, to zoom/teams meetings, one camera to rule them all! Despite it’s slight niggles worthy of a 5 star rating.
Having said all this however, I recommend you watch some guides to make the most of it and to help navigate and understand Sony’s ridiculously over complicated menu system. It’s well worth spending the time understanding this and also customising the cameras buttons for your most used features.
I bought one of these to up the quality on my YouTube Vlog videos – could not be happier. The natural look of the 4K footage at 25fps is just superb. The speed of autofocus on the product showcase mode is excellent allowing me to hold products close and get a near instant focus. Low light use also excellent.
I guess the menu system is a bit muddled and overly large, but they often are on Sony gear. Cannot argue with the picture for video though.
Seriously considering getting another for a two camera setup – it’s that good.
Superb blogging camera, with mic jack, hot shoe, great picture, sturdy build, awesome flip out screen and super compact. Shockingly awesome picture quality. I had the RX100 Mark IV previously, also great, but this ups the ante. Look no further for vlogging use. Check out 4K video quality on my vlog @WisevibesTV.
This is called a Vlogging camera, being aimed squarely at the video market, and video bloggers in particular. It does take still photographs, but I doubt many people are going to buy it for that reason. This is a well-made product with a quality feel to it, as you might expect from Sony. It is a small camera, which can be very useful when using it outside a home or studio environment. It has everything you need to get started with video shooting, and luckily has no time restriction on recording, as long as you use a large enough memory card.
The camera comes supplied with a fluffy little windsock that cuts down obtrusive wind noise dramatically. Larger microphones can be accommodated, but cost extra as an option. The screen faces the user, or away from them. It also stays flat on the back, and can tilt in portrait mode. Focusing is smooth, and stabilisation is effective too.
The lens is not interchangeable, and the longest distance of 70 mm will be restricting for zooming in on landscapes, but not for face-on video blogging use. It is packed with features, too many to go into here, all accessed from the menu, as there are no real external controls other than record/shutter/on-off. The menu is rather complex if you are not already used to Sony cameras, but is easy enough to scroll through using the touch screen and command dial.
A grip/tripod is available as an optional extra, at a hefty price. I think it should be bundled with it, as it feels to me that it works a lot better when mounted on this. It does require a separate battery though, and connects to the camera via a bluetooth connection. It also has only the basic functions, not full control.
I would have liked to have seen a viewfinder included, as I prefer that for still photos. But as a video camera in a neat package, it certainly has a lot to offer.
I have been using the camera for the last few weeks both for still photography and video and, under the right conditions, this is a superb camera which produces brilliant photos and videos. This is primarily designed as a vlogging camera with photo capabilities, rather than the other way round. The camera doesn’t have a pop-up flash, that space is taken by the microphone array; I use flash mainly for fill-in and I would have preferred the inclusion of the flash with a plug-in microphone on the hot shoe. The manual focus ring around the lens is also absent although manual focus is available within the menu. The LCD touchscreen also has limited function, just for selecting the focus point, most operations are done on the camera. Controls on the back of the camera are pretty clear as to function, and the menu is easy to navigate, the controls on the top of the camera are all flat so it is difficult to feel which is which.
The associated app, Image Edge Mobile and Movie Edit add-on, allow download of the camera content and give remote control over the camera, they work but I struggled with them and didn’t find them particularly intuitive.
The optional Bluetooth Sony GP-VPT2BT hand grip/tripod is attached to the camera using the tripod hole and, once paired, it works well, buttons are easy to operate and the zoom rocker functions well. It’s very stable and there are firm click-stops for rotating the camera in 90 degree steps and for angling the camera.
For its intended purpose, vlogging, this is an excellent camera, the autofocus works flawlessly and the sound pick up from the on-board microphones is very good (they do pick up the zoom motor though). Colour rendition and clarity is excellent and the “bokeh” button, where the background is thrown out of focus, is a useful addition. Excellent vlogging camera.
Sony zv-1 is a camera made specifically for vlogging especially as the video quality is amazing and love the active steady shot modes too. It has many features you can use and adjust to get different modes, i got use to the slow mo features which i found it easy to use… also how the light adjust in shaded areas really quickly is amazing and focuses really well. Pictures are nice and sleek, brightness is on point colours are loveky and rich. Do love how the screen can flip in and out which can help you focus on certain area. The tripod is awesome it is bluetooth connected helps when taking videos or selfies and good for taking those lovely scenic videos. All in all it a good camera it has good pros but would have liked for the price to be at least a touch screen so be easier to navigate. Really recommend this camera .
Fantastic!!! I’ve been using this camera to document my trip to France this past week and all the videos have turned out beautiful. The auto-focus is so incredibly useful, especially when doing a front camera, vlogging-style video. The screen flips all the way around and I’ve been using it with the bluetooth handle which has helped create flattering angles and meant that I can see everything as it is being filmed. I’ve also used it to take pictures and found the night mode creates a lovely warm glow when taking photos in the dark/low light. The only issue I have is that when I have my sunglasses on I can’t see the screen! I haven’t minded that much but it seems a strange quirk.
Normally I have recorded vlog’s or small videos using a go pro, when I saw this I thought it was time to up my game a little bit.
First off lets start with the camera itself, it’s a nice weight in the hand, when being used as a normal camera I initially found I kept hitting the record button on top by mistake, but soon figured it out.
There are plenty of imaging modes for you to choose from, including intelligent, automatic, priority for shutter or aperture, full manual, scene selection and more.
For most things I have been using either scene or intelligent as I am still getting to grips with the large amount of settings on it however the photos have been coming out fantastic and in great quality.
One of the features I have been having the most fun with is the background de-focus, giving a nice clear subject in the frame and lightly blurring out the background – this works on either photo mode or video mode.
Moving onto the video, when using it as a hand held without the tripod I find it a bit awkward, even with the grip on the front of the camera I feel that it is just waiting to be dropped and it doesn’t feel natural trying to press the record buttons.
The video footage is nice and clear, the audio is acceptable and the added wind stopper attachment works well to get rid of some of the wind noise.
I would recommend getting the tripod attachment for the camera, they have clearly been designed to work in conjunction with each other and if you are going to be vlogging it makes the whole experience better. The camera can be set up on a tripod as you move about in front of it or you can fold it up and hold it out in front of you, the grip fits nicely in the hand and it is easy to manipulate the buttons on the front. When this is coupled with the fold out screen you can see exactly what is being filmed and get the exact footage you need as you go along.
Downside to using the tripod is that you have to remove it to access the battery/card port.
So far you are probably thinking, why only 4 stars? it sounds great!
Well… the screen, the only ‘touch’ feature on it allows you to select the subject which you want to track, other than that you have to figure out if you need to use the directional pad or spin the dial and it takes a bit of getting used to, why oh why could it not have a touch screen to allow you to change various settings without having to navigate a menu.
Add into that the fact that the tripod comes with a case but the camera doesn’t?
The camera comes with a phone app as well which lets you remote control the camera, transfer files and edit the photos, (but not the videos?). I quite like uploading the photos to my phone and using my phones built in editing suite if they need a bit of touching up.
You can get a variety of accessories for the camera as well thanks to the hot shoe adaptor on top, allowing you to add lights, microphones and more.
Overall I think this camera is great for those looking to move up into the world of vlogging, filming or just taking photographs without wanting the full dSLR experience, there are enough settings for you to play with to get the exact outcome you want in a nice small package.
It’s August 2020 and this outstanding bit of tech is retailing for 700, and to be fair that is around average price if you shop around. So Amazon is about on the ball.. There’re places selling for more. I’m dropping a star just because I think the features don’t add up over and above say the the RX100 IV I had which went for around the 500 mark. This was truly outstanding for stills, so I’m not going all grumpy about the Sony brand or series. It’s just that some features of the new ZV-1 that make it handy for vlogging are just part of the manufacturing process, the shoe mount microphone is a simple affair that could likely be replaced by a better model after purchase, but I’m still paying 200 premium. I suspect the price will come down, as has happened with all these miniature Sony gems. Shop around if you need it now and you may save 50. If you can wait then do so IMO.
The build is mainly as good as my RX series. The plastic looking lens surround feels a bit cheap and stick on tho and it extends further from the body when ‘at rest’, so not quite as super neat. The lens itself tho is just as good and a great ‘standard’ zoom range of 24-70, starting at f1.8 – the Zeiss name means something. Controls are fine once you get used to them, touchscreen Ok, screen res very good, use for video excellent, vlogging excellent, stills excellent. Handling is a strange one. Even with the added front finger hold, normally an add on extra, it feels slightly less stable in hand. Maybe it’s just me. With the RX I worked out a way of holding it nicely despite the tiny size. With the ZV-1 it’s slight;y clumsy in comparison.
Besides price, my other gripe is lack of viewfinder. The RX has a real neat pop up one of good quality. With the ZV-1 it’s all rear screen so expect battery drain if out and about. In a studio it’s no big deal as you’ll be on charge. I get why it’s not possible, but still! Talking of screen, the new one is great for vlogging as it twists right round so you can see yourself. My RX can’t do that. Get a table tripod and you’re good.
If you’re looking at this camera it’s probably because you want the features it offers around sound and video in a single, super cool, discrete and nicely performing package. It’s a great bit of kit. If you’re much more a stills photographer then I’d think very carefully. I’d want a cheaper RX model with a viewfinder.
Awesome camera, superb features. The only thing stopping it being the perfect camera for vlogging is the lens isn’t quite wide enough once stabilisation is added. I’d still buy it again though!
Those are what you can expect to see inside the box.
I received two different boxes one with multifunction tripod, and the other one with the camera itself.
This is the multifunction tripod, to open the battery compartment, two movements must be performed at the same time to unlock it, left, and down.
The battery is included, it is not in a video because it was inside the tripod box, together with the battery was also so few more instruction paper.
I must say, I received so many paper, I thought I just needed to read them and I will know all I needed to know about this camera. I was wrong.
In front of the tripod there are few buttons, each one has a name on it.
“PHOTO” to take photo
“MOVIE” to record Video
“LOCK” switch, this one disables the remote commander function to prevent unintentional camera operations.
“T” zoom in,
“W” zoom out,
and the last one is,
“C1” this is the one you can assign to do anything you want.
Still on the tripod there is also, the mounting wheel, adjustment wheel, flip button, this one is to easily flip the camera sideways, the angle adjusting button, is to flip the camera down and up, it is ideal to adjust this one when you need a better grip, or when the tripod is on the floor and you need it to face up or down.
In my opinion they should have replaced the zoom button, with the function back and forward so the tripod would be more useful, especially when you have it in your hand.
I love this tripod it is very well made.
The wind screen, should be used to reduce the amount of winds on the microphone, it help provide better sound.
The USB cable, I wish it was USB type-c, but is not.
The manual and a lot of papers.
And then you have the battery for the camera.
And the camera itself.
I am wondering what should I say about this camera.
Well, the reality is there is a lot to say about this camera, it is very good, and very well made, it has a lot of helpful functions, it is a very versatile camera. And there is millions of situation where camera like this would be lifesaver.
An example of people who will make a good use of this camera are.
Someone will never took a picture before.
Vlogger,
YouTuber,
Reviewer,
Traveller, travelling for holiday or travel for any other reason it doesn’t matter where you travel to, this camera will be easy to transport.
I mean, this is a very compact camera with the power of a big camera.
If you are someone who use mobile phone to record and take photo this could be for you.
This is compact like a mobile phone, with the help of the tripod this will replace your phone easily, and give you high quality picture and video.
This camera has so many functions to make your life easy, that if I was going to say everything I learn in the past few days, I would be trying to write the Bible.
Important:
There’s one important thing I should say, I struggled to connect the tripod to the camera and I couldn’t find the answer anywhere.
I went through the manual and I couldn’t find it anywhere. So I went online and I finally found it, on help guide page from Sony, that page had a lot of good information about this tripod, all information was well organized, I also found another similar page with information about this ZV-1 camera.
I will leave the details on the end. So you can go to that page and take any doubt you may have about this camera and its tripod.
As I said before, this camera is the best in many ways but it has a big down side at least for someone that uses it like me.
You know this camera has a big display, and that takes almost all the back of this camera.
Unfortunately, it is not a touch screen, that means when you touch on the display nothing happens, I think that is a very bad thing to do, on the times we are living, touch screen is a must, on a big display like this.
This means scrolling between pictures, selecting pictures, deleting pictures, all that stuff, is a little bit more difficult than it should with a big display like this.
That’s why I thought what if the tripod could help on that, on this case the tripod will not help.
Note: when the display is on, ready to take a picture or to start video, the touch pad works, but it only works for better Focus or selective Focus.
It means, if the camera is focusing on the subject you don’t want, you can just touch on the screen to select the correct subject, that’s the only function I found out.
Also another downside is how difficult it is to remove the memory card when the tripod is on.
In reality it is impossible to remove the memory card when the tripod is in place.
This, I can deal with easily. The display is a bigger problem for me.
In many ways this camera is entitled to five stars, it is a well made camera.
This will be all for now, if you want to know more about this camera and its tripod, please follow this link in the bottom.
Thank you for everything, I should see you on the next one.

Disclosure : I am a member of Vine Voice program.
They sent me this product for free from the program to review.
PS: I only inquire for products that I need and I will use it on my day to day life.
This camera is fantastic. I’m a little over whelmed by the number of settings this has (more than my dslr!). The quality is amazing and it’s so easy to use. The 2 buttons for blurring out background and changing the focus quickly to anything you hold close to the camera are perfect for doing product reviews, it coming with a dead cat for wind reduction is a nice touch but I think I’ll buy and external mic as well. For such an expensive, small item a case would have been nice, but they are available on Amazon for under 10.
The one thing that I am not happy about is that in all of Sony’s videos, pictures and promotional materials for this camera, this Bluetooth tripod grip is shown, which led me to believe it came included with the camera. It doesn’t. This is a 170 accessory sold separately. I think Sony should have made it clear that this grip isn’t included, as I didn’t see any disclaimers or notices anywhere informing me of this. I only realised that this wasn’t included when Amazon offered me this as an add on product, and they do have a special offer on at the moment where if you buy the grip with the camera, you get 90 off. Bad Sony! Be more clear in future. Also, for 170, the tripod grip just isn’t worth it. You could buy a stabiliser for the same price that would have the same control and functions.
As a long term Sony user this piqued my interest when released so had to have one to replace my RX100v with compliments an A7iii.
It’s a very nice upgrade on the RX100v – which is still an excellent small camera to pocket and take anywhere without the weight and intimidation factor of the larger A7iii
Video colours have been subtly changed compared to the earlier model and skin tones especially seem very realistic with no adjustments.
Stabilisation is much improved and the star of the show is the near perfect snappy autofocus, particularly the way it will lock on to a face or eye. Only it really low light does it start to struggle but even then the quality of video recorded is little short of remarkable.
I would use it about 50-50 for photo an video and almost always shoot RAW.
At this time only Sony’s own – slightly cumbersome – Imaging Edge software recognises these but that will be a temporary issue as so many have been sold
With the software I have the RX100v seems to inexplicably do better at stills. I have noticed a disturbing tendency for distant objects to blur into coloured blobs even from RAW. Hopefully when Lightroom recognises the files without cumbersome workarounds all will be well. Closer subjects do look fine with it.
As a video camera you cannot go wrong with it whether a beginner or expert you are almost certain to be highly impressed.
The bluetooth handgrip is useful and probably worth getting at the reduced price offer – in reality carrying that, small as it is negates the benefit of having such a tiny discrete camera which can produce such outstanding results.
A better buy would be a separate charger with a couple of extra batteries which is much better than charging through the (*oh dear) mini-USB.
Also popping the card out and using a card reader is much better than any other transfer method.
So first off, you should 100% check the plethora of reviews on YouTube to find out about image quality and see sample videos etc. I’ll just give my opinion on a few key things that you might want to know before buying this camera, that maybe aren’t covered on YouTube.
– The screen folds onto the back of the camera, either with the screen facing in or the screen facing out. That means you can keep it protected while it’s in your pocket or bag, which is a massive plus point for me
– As of mid-July, Sony is releasing software so you can use this camera as a webcam via micro USB, which I hadn’t seen mentioned in most reviews, but sounds really useful, looking forward to using that
– The 3/4″ tripod connector under the camera is super close to the battery cover, so if you use a tripod or selfie stick, or even just have a quick-release attached, you’ll need to remove this to take the battery out, which is super annoying, and one of the very few negatives with this camera
– There’s a mode where you can take photos while recording videos – it only saves these as JPG files but it’s really useful to be able to quickly snap a shot while filming
– The camera can be charged at a faster rate than it uses power – this means that you can plug a USB power bank in and completely power the camera even when the battery has gone down to 0%. Super handy if you run out of power and need to immediately use it again
Hopefully that covers some of the less known features, but I’ll add to this review later if anything else comes up through using the camera. Very pleased with it so far though, and I’d recommend it.
