Good quality sound.Excellent rechargeable battery means l haven’t missed a kick of World Cup. A carry strap would have made it a five star unit.
I like everything about this radio,
I have one already and bought this as a gift for my so
I looked at several radios to replace an old PURE item that had become sticky.
Very easy to use and set up, sound quality is surprisingly good for it’s size, bonus is that it has a rechargeable battery so can be taken outside inedpendant of a mains extension (if/when summer arrives) and has bluetooth connectivity so can link up with my phone….again simple to do.
Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and this item is worth the extra cost in my opinion.
The sound from this compact radio is very good even radio 3 for classical music. The sound has enough bass and is not tinny. Excellent value for money.
I needed a replacement Kitchen radio and this is perfect. The battery lasts over a week between charges so doesn’t take up valuable socket space. All in all very happy.
We purchased to use in the kitchen and the sound quality is decent for the money, it remains crisp and clear at louder volumes (which helps to drown out our neighbour’s barking dog!). The battery life is pretty good and the fact it’s rechargeable is great and it can be carried into the garden to use while dining Al fresco! Overall good value for money
The Sony DAB radio is well built ,easy to set up and use. The DAB and FM stations stay locked on and there are enough pre-sets for all your favourite stations. Sleep mode works well and the battery life as lasted well so far , although I have not used it up to the full 25 hours. The sound quality is also good as you would expect from Sony. I replaced my Pure Evoke H3 DAB radio with the Sony as the Pure radio failed after only a year , which was disappointing as the Pure radio’s sound is ,in my opinion, slightly better – a warmer sound and deeper bass. Of course this is subjective as some people will prefer the sharper/cleaner sound of the Sony. A good buy for the price – recommended.
Good battery life. Like the sleep function. The device automatically recognises my phone when I’m using the Bluetooth facility. Good sound quality. Easy to use
great radio very easy to set up great sound easy to turn on and off we use it in the bathroom and the battery lasts at least 2-3 weeks
Positives:
The sound is great and clear for listening to voice radio.
Mobile – the inbuilt rechargeable battery is very good – radio can be used away from socket all day.
Square shape means it very steady.
Negatives:
Very expensive.
Time in display goes very small when radio is on.
Volume buttons hard to find in dark or beside bed.
Shape makes it a bit awkward to carry – could have done with a fold up handle.
Would have been nice to have a remote control.
The low display brightness setting is too bright to use as a bedside clock radio.
An excellent radio, good sound – I have a hearing disability so the sound and settings are very important. There are clear signals with no interference. Very pleased woth i
A really, really good radio. I used to like the range from PURE but this is much better build quality. The only niggle concerns operating it in the dark: e.g. the volume up/down buttons may be big but are so “flush” with the rest of the surface that they’re hard to locate. It shouldn’t be an issue but my favourite radio stations seem to broadcast at different volumes.
Just what we wanted. God quality, Bluetooth works well and battery good for a day in the su
Fabulous sound and quality. Love it, take it around the house without a worry of battery life. Dab is great, Bluetooth works really well and alarm is ideal.
There is nothing to dislike about this radio. Looks good, sound is perfect and bluetooth is great. Perfect as a bedroom radio and rechargeable battery is useful for bringing it to the bathroom!
However, if you’re after an alarm clock which you can fall asleep listening to, and which will wake you up no problem … not so fast, as there it falters.
You see, the volume can not be set, and so if you’re listening to the radio at Volume 2, the alarm will come on at volume 2. And if you set Sleep to 90 minutes, or whatever, it will still come on at whatever volume the radio was at when it went off! Whoever designed it like this needs shooting.
I know what you’re think: just set the buzzer, as the volume won’t affect that. Well, that would be an option alright (like the old Sony Dream Machines) if it had a buzzer option but it doesn’t.
So, unless you have no desire to go to sleep listening to radio, and just want it as a straightforward alarm clock, then buy something else as no way would night time listening volume wake you up.
I’m keeping it though, as it’s an excellent DAB & FM Kitchen Radio / Bluetooth Speaker.
– It has a rechargeable battery inside, great if the power goes out and you count on the alarm in the morning.
– Simple and easy to use controls.
– Compact
– Sound is great for a small device
– Sleep timer
That said it has one issue which meant I returned. Whilst you can set a specific radio station for your wake-up, the sound has to be the same as the last time you used. This isn’t ideal if you use the sleep timer function when you go to sleep as you almost certainly want the volume louder to wake up vs. when you go to bed. Important note that the later version of this radio alarm has update this feature (Sony XDRV20DH) so would recommend this one instead. Only other minor miss is the lack of a snooze button.
I initially ordered this radio to use with a Panasonic soundbar that had Bluetooth and NFC capabilities. On arrival my first impressions were that it was a bit plasticky and was dissapointed as generally I am a big Sony fan. It didn’t help when it wouldn’t connect to my soundbar by Bluetooth or NFC. However, using it as a portable radio with my work it performs very well; it easly connects to my Samsung mobile via bluetooth to play music and the DAB reception is very good. The sound quallity and sound level of the built in speakers is very good and the built in battery lasts well. So despite a few teething issues, it has turned to be a good portable radio.
good sound, excellent battery and easy to use but memories are few
Good quality sound and nice look. Was hoping more alarm clock functions
Great radio, very good quality of sound. It looks really cool as well.
Great size, super sound quality and tone, very easy to set up and use – including simple connectivity with iPhone etc – it has a premium feel to it with solid Sony quality. Great!
Battery life seems good, but you can always plug in too.
Setting up this radio is simplicity itself. The functions are extremely easy to understand and I didn’t need the instruction pamphlet once. Build quality is better than most and the sound doesn’t disappoint. Compared to my Pure & Roberts radios the sound quality is much better, clearer sharper.
The rechargeable battery last days and makes the radio very portable.
The only reason it drops one star is because I’m not a great fan of the cuboid style but I do understand the reasoning behind it, having such a small footprint you can place it in the tightest of spaces.
Bought for the wife for her birthday very pleased, great sound
Easy to setup
Relatively good sound
Rechargeable battery
Good signal sensitivity
Bad things:
The sound isn’t too load
Significantly less, than presented “up to 25 hours
Just five preset memories
Expensive
Low level of the basses
The device has barely been switched off since I bought it, and the resultant battery life is fantastic (a full charge lasts roughly 2-3 days), but it can also be used whilst charging. The device has great sound quality and volume if needed, the sound easily fills a large room.
The interface is easy to use and has enlightened my mother to the pleasures of DAB radio (I.e. a great variety of radio stations). She has also used it as a typical bluetooth speaker for playing music from her iPhone. It also has an alarm function which is regularly used to wake her up to a radio station, and as a result is also doubled up as a bedside clock/radio. The screen has an adjustable brightness setting which she turns down at night so it doesn’t light the room.
Whilst it is a little costly for what is essentially just a speaker, that cost is instantly reflected in the build quality and sound quality of the device. I would recommend this product to another after a Bluetooth Speaker and DAB radio with great loud quality and is built to last. Due to the size, I would also recommend for taking away from the home, on camping trips and such like.
So, we were looking for a rechargable, portable radio with a built in battery to be used for a bathroom. It therefore needs to be quick to use with easy access presents, strong DAB reception and reliable Bluetooth in its latest AptX version. I’m a sticker for decent sound quality (at a level appropriate to the item’s use) so sought a tone that is fairly balanced for use with both music and voice based radio. This radio met all our criteria.
The sound upon hearing in a shop or first opening may be flat as was mentioned in the WhatHifi review of the product but the EQ adjustment makes a massive different (especially the Treble setting) and opens up the sound substantially.
We can report that the radio charges well, keeps the charge for an extended period of time, has adjustable EQ and also has stereo speakers. Comparable radios in this vertical style are almost always mono, but here two speakers are positioned to point away from each other to give a basic sense of stereo spread.
The controls being on top make it very quick to use which is what we were after. It’s built well and has proved to be the right purchase. My wife uses it for comparable radio and bluetooth, my son uses it to listen to football and stream Spotify, I use it occasionally for Radio 2 through 6 and JazzFM. It works without anyone having to mention it or ask me questions – which is all we can ask for in being a product that balances form and function as it should.
This may be a bit more than some cheaper looking equivalent radios and it has been a long time since I bought a Sony product, but I’m very happy with this and will be pleased to again.
Although I am a Vine voice (though this seem seems to have stopped now) – I paid full price for the radio.
