Great set of lenses with the camera but can’t get the hang of answering the phone.
Very pleased with this as it was a replacement for the one I had stolen in the airport lounge.
Bought this to replace an Xperia XZ1 Compact that I has unfortunately managed to fry. (It fell down off a table whilst being charged, and the cable was severely yanked. An hour later, I realised the phone was getting VERY hot around the connector, and I don’t think it is safe to use any longer.) Compared to my earlier phone, it has a lot more memory, a taller screen, and very much better battery life. It also has a later version of Android, which should mean it’s less vulnerably.
My only complaints are that its size makes it difficult to use one-handed, and that it lacks the auto-screen off capability when a cover is closed. (Sony made a flip cover for the XZ1 compact that disabled the screen when the cover was closed, turned it on again when the cover was re-opened – brilliant.)
ice very lightweight quality sony android phone. unlocked. very smart. most i like about it its very light doesn’t sag in the pocket like other phones i’ve had
Have stuck with Sony since the ericsson days, I like the fact that there isn’t much bloatware on the phone. the screens also seem indestructible (TOUCH WOOD) and they tend to go until android updates stop.
I also like the dual sim as I have a work mobile so can used both networks simultaneously which is a great help in the car!
When GPS logging with the Memory Map software, this phone loses GPS when in my pocket which results in loss of track data. This is very disappointing as previous cheaper phones have had no problem with this.
Today i discovered it only logs a gps track when the screen is lit, I am trying to find out if there is any way of changing that, or keeping the screen on permanently while logging. For me this is the most important thing i use the phone for, i only make or receive perhaps ten calls a month on the phone but regularly record tracks when I am walking or cycling. If i cannot find a solution I am considering sending the phone back. After several sessions or researching on the internet I have now a month later managed to fix all the issues I had with this phone. It is the software not the hardware that was an issue and I think that some settings are made so difficult to find because the manufacturer and software people want to make it seem that the battery life is better than it otherwise would be. To get the performance from the GPS I want I cannot have it switching off when the screen turns off. I also found solutions by loading third party apps that allow me to transfer file to my Windows PC, particularly the gps tracks i have recorded. I have raised my rating to four stars, if the software was better the phone could easily gain five stars.
Bought this phone for my father and loves it! Good battery life!
Brilliant phone, perfect size, had it about a month and the battery lasts about 8 or 9 days full to empty. I don’t stare at it all day like some do. My last Experia lasted 9 year’s still holds three days charge and still works fine, but thought it was time for a upgrade and will keep it for a backup. Sony products are brilliant. I swear by them. Highly recommended. Does everything the literature says it would, no complaints.
Its a good phone at a good price and its Sony, which means its reliable.
This replaced a Galaxy 9+, didn’t want to spend a Grand+ for my simple needs, not worth it.
I use phone, the odd text & a bit of browsing to look thing’s up. That’s about it. This phone is more than enough for what I need it for. With zero over-heat issues often complained about with Sony Phones. The Audio is good enough for my calls which I always use speakerphone. Plenty of Memory capability, no I haven’t maxxed it out. Can’t really comment on speed because I don’t “Game” or waste my time with other Apps. It’s probably what you’d expect for what you pay for. Good no-frills phone that has worked reliably with no issues. Yet.
The fingerprint reader is great, battery life is excellent and the price is very good would definitely recommend
I like Sony phones and this one doesn’t disappoint also cloning from my old phone to this new one was so easy..
Disappointed does not support album have to revert to Google photos
I love the battery life. I have gone from having to charge my old phone twice a day, to only charging this once every 3 days. This phone has a good sized, clear screen and does everything so fast. Good value for the money.
Upgraded from previous Xperia. Value for money on a black Friday deal. Battery is really good. Happy with purchase.
Thank you
Yeah good battery life, some apps pre installed that aren’t wanted but a okay phone overall, would I recommend it to anyone else, I’d have to think about it!
This is the only premium brand 5G waterproof phone other than an Asus Zenfone 9 which is double the price. It’s small and light enough to use during exercise and has a headphone jack which is useful when you want better audio quality than Bluetooth is capable of. The specs don’t seem great on paper but benchmark tests prove it to run all the apps without lagging.
This phone was bought as a present for my teenaged daughter who is constantly using her phone. She is very happy as the phone gives well over a day of battery life. Solid and well made with a format factor she likes. Highly recommended.
This phone is fantastic value for money, it has some great features for a mid price phone (low price compared to apple) . It’s nice and responsive and the camera is decent,not top end but competitive. The battery however is very much top end I use the phone a fair amount and I’m getting 4-5 days from the battery. Sony has been making good phones for a while now and this is another one.
I’m used to a much larger smartphone but was keen to get this for a smaller phone to take on hikes etc but still wanted decent specs and capabilities and am really happy with it! Is so nice and compact compared to my mammoth Samsung by comparison and is nice and comfortable to hold and love that it actually comfortably fits into most pockets etc, unlike my main one and is so much easier to hold. Despite the smaller screen I still find this more than enough which is one area I thought I might not be so happy with but very quickly got used to it.
The other area I knew wouldn’t be as great was the camera but I wasn’t getting it for that primarily so wasn’t such an issue but again am actually very pleasantly surprised – takes very decent pictures too and the only area I’ve really noticed a major difference on this front compared to my Samsung is when in very low-light conditions, but not really an issue for me – this feels like more of smartphone that assumes you are not using it as your primary camera and the same for the speaker when on loud phone – music is OK but not amazing but absolutely fine with headphones.
It does take a little longer to charge than my quick-charge Samsung but as long as you stay on top of this or have a power-bank handy when out and about not suing it to keep it topped up isn’t such an issue, especially as the battery life is still pretty good.
Considering the price of this is so much cheaper than my other phone I feel like this is a great phone on a budget that still has all the essentials and looks pretty smart too and am really glad to have tried it out and would recommend.
If I’m honest I preferred the fingerprint reader on my last Sony (a dedicated item on the back) but this one is reliable enough. The screen is great and the multi-app split screen option works well. I’m not missing the lack of wireless charging, it never seemed that useful on the last phone and the battery on this one is holding up really well.
The Xperia 10 IV comes without a charger or cable but I had one at home so it wasn’t a problem. The Experia doesn’t support wireless charging but it does charge very fast and the battery life is amazing. Much better than my Apple.
The glass is incredibly robust so I’ve heard ( I’ve not tried dropping it from 6ft ) but apparently the glass is resistant that you could and it wouldn’t be damaged !
The camera is impressive and it takes nice clear photos and videos. I do love my Apple for photos but this is almost just as good ! The display on the phone is bright and very clear for the user.
Call sound is impeccable and voices are clear.
This is a very nice phone and would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something slimline and reliable but also a very good price.
This is a great phone from Sony. Physically it is not huge and the appearance is not much different from 99% of the phones on the market if a little squarer than most. The rear is plain black and a small top border conceals the front lens. Setup is easy and the OLED screen is absolutely gorgeous complete with the strongest Gorilla glass on the market. I have dropped it a couple of times, once face down without damage front and back. Loving the fingerprint scanner on the power button which feels so much more natural and fast in repeated use. No charger is a miss though, I like being able to bin tired and potentially dangerous old plugs when I get a new phone.
I play battery intensive games during quite periods but it has never needed a top up charge during the day, the battery life is very good. Camera is ok with 2x optical zoom but my similarly priced Huawei definitely beats it. The Android 12 OS is quite raw without a ton of Sony guff added which you may appreciate and probably find easy to get to grips with like I did.
Overall a tough and reliable phone, more workhorse than racehorse but one that won’t let you down.
This is a review for Sony Xperia 10 IV android phone . It comes in a plastic free packaging . In terms of size – it’s just standard. It’s easy to type on it and comfortable to hold. The best thing about this phone is its battery life and screen resolution, it’s so clean and crisp. Unbelievable how 4k videos look on it, the colours are so vibrant! I absolutely love it. display is organised well , app icons are designed well and are easy to locate. I wish the setting menu was little easier to navigate or find things (but perhaps it’s just me being used to different make of the phone). Side buttons are located in convinient place. The camera takes great photos (there are phones that take better photos than this one but they are also in much higher price bracket).
Unfortunately this phone comes on its own (no charger or cable is provided). But I think that at the price of 400 it’s a bargain for what you’re getting and you can invest in a charger or reuse your old one . The phone charges via USB c .
It’s a great phone overall and I would recommend it to anybody.
I hope my review and photos/video were helpful
The Sony Xperia 10 IV has a sleek, lightweight, and compact design. The tall 6 inch phone is extremely useful for phone navigation. The screen is stunning, with excellent brightness, clarity, and sharpness. It’s entertaining to watch movies and videos. Because the phone’s body is dust and water resistant, and it has Gorilla Glass on the front, I don’t have to take any extra precautions while going about my daily business. The camera quality is good in daylight but not so good in low light and when taking selfies. The phone does not support 4k recording whichI would have expected. The battery life is excellent, and the sound quality is adequate if a little low.Overall, the phone is of high quality and has a very stylish appearance. The performance is excellent, and the screen and battery life particularly impress me.
Well I usually use iPhones so this for me is difficult to set up. On a plus, it’s thinner than my iPhone 13 so easier to hold and appeared to be lighter in weight too. I much prefer less heavy phones.
Took me a while to set up but that’s partly my fault as I need to get used to using android. It’s good as it has all the basics and is simple enough to navigate. It’s a good well known brand so doesn’t disappoint. In the box, all you get included is the phone and the instructions, which are very basic, that’s all. I know that’s how they do it nowadays but a bit disappointing as there isn’t even a charging cable let alone a plug.
The camera is excellent but this is good for just messaging calling and apps, great for those who aren’t technically minded. The price tag is good considering what some brands of phones are costing in recent times.
All in all, good value for money and it does do everything that I need it do!
Sony xperia 10 IV
While being a tech nerd Ive used alot of phones Ive been given a few to test over recent weeks some good some bad so here’s my view’s and opinion of if this might be the phone for you or if you have the Xperia 10 iii is it worth the upgrade.
The Xperia 10 IV is a mid-range phone while also being compact it fits nicely in the hands although over the previous version its no longer polycarbonate body and switches to a plastic body which to some might feel less premium for a mid-range phone.
The Xperia 10 IV does fit nicely in the hand though it feel easier to hold compared to last years version its light and sports a bigger battery as well at 5000 milliamp so its bigger than the previous model and also slightly better than others in its range.
The bad side of Sony this year is the fact you don’t get a USB charger and while most companies are moving away from this and standardizing the USB-C as its primary charging socket the Xperia does support fast charging at 21W and your more than likely have a charger suitable already.
spec wise the Xperia 10 IV offers
6inch OLED display using the triluminos with a resolution 1080×2520 pixels at 457 PPI and 60hz refresh which is similar to the Xperia 10 iii which personally i believe compared to other brands is lack luster and other are doing better however the Xperia 10 does have gorilla glass victus.
The screen does have decent brightness with about 680nits brightness. yet i liked the colours that the screen produces its definitely sharp and vibrant just a shame about the 60hz refresh rate.
As for the Chipset the Xperia 10 IV comes with the snapdragon 695 which is 5G yet this is only slightly faster than its previous model and it doesn’t support 4K if that’s what your looking for.
For storage you get 128GB which would store alot of photo and videos however the good news this can be expanded using a micro-SD slot that in the same tray as the SIM. With 6GB RAM which while on the main screen and switching between application i felt this was good and snappy i had no issue of lag or stuttering when going between applications or menu’s.
Another feature that i liked but was also disappointed with is the sound while i hear alot of noise coming from people who what the audio jack back on there phone since most phone nowadays have removed this Sony hasn’t and i liked this however the 1 main loudspeaker was disappointing because is wasn’t loud nor did it wow me while i was watching something on the phone the quality from speakers here was rather poor from Sony.
The camera on the Xperia 10 IV i rather like, personally im always taking photos mostly on my phone as there always available when im not carrying a bulky DSLR around.
It carries over from the previous Xperia iii with three camera on the back in a vertical position.
12MP with a F 1.8, 27mm Wide
8MP with a F 2.2 54mm telephoto 2x optical zoom
8MP F 2.2 120 degrees 16mm ultrawide.
1080p at 30FPS ( no 4K compared to the previous model )
The features that comes with the camera’s are HDR and Panorama while a better AI to help get better photo’s
The front facing camera 8MP F 2.0 27mm wide.
The rear camera personally seems to have better detail and depth while the colours are full and not over saturated. When taking a photo in portrait mode the bokeh effect was strong and sometimes effected the hair.
The optical zoom i rather liked the colours are good and with some nice details however the ultrawide wasn’t the greatest and the colours were more saturated than i would have liked.
Night mode the camera performed decently i got some nice detail and shadows while the highlights were balanced though some photos did come out under exposed in some settings however, this is an improvement over the previous model and did do better than other brands Ive used in this price range.
The selfie camera was at best ok the phone uses a new AI feature which sharpens the faces but this did tend to look more fake personally by smoothing the face and sharpen the edges.
Video recording wasn’t great personally this lets the phone down if your looking to use this to record video as this will only record at 1080p at 30FPS.
Overall the bad to start with no 4K recording as its only 1080p, the snapdragon 965 isn’t really a big upgrade is below some other mid-range phones and the refresh rate on the screen is only at 60hz and i wasn’t impressed with the speaker.
The good its a nice compact design its light and the battery life is really good i would say one of the best at mid range. the rear camera’s are also good and will produce some nice photos.
So this will depend on what features your looking for and what features you need.
I was really surprised when this phone arrived and It was so compact and lightweight. Most of the new phones tend to be bigger and heavier. I remember having a Sony Xperia in my teen years and I was quite excited to try this new model.
Design:
The first thing I noticed is that the phone didn’t come with a charger which is a shame really. I know most people have lots of phone chargers but still. It is not a big deal but I really wanted to have an original Sony charger. I really like the frosted matte finish of the back panel but it held lots of fingerprints. It features a robust, comfortable to hold design.
Display:
The good news is that the display of the Xperia 10 IV is quite bright, and the colour accuracy is also pretty decent as well. The colours look vibrant without being overcooked. There 2 buttons on the right side of the phone for volume control and a power button(which is also a fingerprint sensor). There is a 3.5mm audio jack at the top of the phone and under a rubberized flap (IP65/68 water and dust resistance) there’s a SIM tray that features an SD card slot as well (left side of the phone).
Software:
On the software side, things are very clean – when you set up the phone you can choose to install a slew of apps created or endorsed by Sony but you can also choose not to, which is fine. There are a couple of software features that are Sony-exclusive, however. There is a Side Sense shortcut as a tiny strip near the edge of your screen. You can do various things with it (open a shortcut menu, split the screen, etc.). I don’t like the fact that there isn’t Album/Gallery app and also Notes app and if you want to use such apps you need to download them from the Google Play App.
Battery:
The phone features a very big 5000mAh battery which I am the most impressed with and it means that the phone will last for at least 2 days before the need for charging.
Camera:
The camera system consists of a wide 27mm lens, an ultrawide 16mm one, and a telephoto 54mm lens.
The camera is decent definitely not the best. The colours, while pleasant to the eye, are a tad oversaturated and not exactly real. Overall, images also lack detail even in bright lighting conditions and turn out rather soft-looking. Don’t get me wrong, it’s absolutely adequate compared to other phones in the same price range
The final and most important question of them all. Should you buy the Xperia 10 IV? Yeah, definitely, if you want a solid phone with maybe the best battery life in this price category, a top-grade 6-inch AMOLED display and snappy performance, by all means – go for it. This, plus a sleek, jeans-friendly design means that, for the most part, the phone is a fine mid-ranger likely to meet most people’s needs.
The first thing I noticed getting the phone out of the box is how relatively small the phone is. It is a similar size to my old Samsung S8 phone, which is several generations old. Most phones seem to be getting bigger, so this Sony Xperia phone is great if you are looking for something that is more compact than average. For me, the smaller size is great as I do often carry the phone in either a trouser or suit jacket pocket and it is unobtrusive and light in weight.
For me, there are some great features to this phone including:
* 5,000mAh battery, which means that the phone lasts for days – much longer than any other phone I’ve ever had.
* The fingerprint sensor is on the side of the phone and is responsive and works very well.
* The screen is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which I think is the highest level of protection offered by phones right now.
In more detail, I’ll split the rest of my review into several sections:
=============================================
SET UP
=============================================
Setting up the phone was extremely easy given I wanted to transfer data and settings across from a Samsung Android phone. I happen to have a double-ended USB-C cable (i.e. it has USB-C connectors at both sides). I followed the instructions on the Sony Xperia phone and within minutes, the settings, apps, and data from my Samsung phone were being copied across.
In the past, I have used apps or Google’s wireless backup service, which were more time consuming. Having a double-ended USB-C cable really sped up the process.
I had around 80 apps on my Samsung phone. I reckon it took around an hour to 90 minutes for all of the apps to update and be transferred across to the Sony Xperia phone. But I hardly had to intervene: after the first 10 minutes of occasionally having to check boxes, the phones just got on with the transfer of apps and data.
The interface seems to be a fairly standard version of Android. There don’t seem to be many unnecessary apps. In fact, there was one option screen that asked me if I wanted various added apps, so I just unticked all of them. This, for me, is a big plus. I don’t like it when manufacturers force me to have apps on a phone that I don’t want and can’t get rid of.
One thing to note about the phone is that this is the first phone I’ve had that does not provide a charger or charging cable with it. Thankfully, we have literally over a dozen chargers and many more cables in our home. But if you are buying your first ever smartphone, you may need to buy a separate charger with charging cable.
=============================================
DESIGN AND FINGERPRINT SENSOR
=============================================
The back of the phone is a matt dark plastic which unfortunately does seem to attract smudges. After just one day of use, I noticed how greasy the back of the phone looked. For me, this won’t be an issue as I have a silicone case for the phone to offer it greater protection.
The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the on/off button. On set up, I saved fingerprints for two fingers and one thumb. I’m pleased with the responsiveness of the fingerprint sensor. On most attempts, the phone unlocks with just one press; occasionally, I have had to do a second press when it hasn’t registered.
=============================================
BATTERY LIFE
=============================================
This Sony Xperia phone has a massive 5,000mAh battery. I have another phone with the same sized battery – but that other phone has a much bigger screen. 5,000mAh on a phone with a smaller screen like this means that it just lasts and lasts and lasts. It has the best battery life of any phone I’ve ever owned.
So well done Sony Xperia. I am having to charge it noticeably less than any other phone I’ve ever had.
=============================================
SCREEN AND VIDEO QUALITY
=============================================
One majorly important thing for me is that the screen is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which I believe is the best level of Corning Gorilla Glass protection that’s available as of July 2022. Personally, I don’t like to use a screen protector, so the fact that the glass is this high level of protection is a real plus for me.
The viewable screen is fairly average for phones these days. There are definitely other phones with smaller bezels – especially at the top and sides. The viewable screen to body ratio is good, but doesn’t compare with the top-end phones. But for me, the size of the bezels isn’t much of a distraction.
The screen resolution is very high. I watched 1080p YouTube videos on it as well as my own videos and they seem very clear. For me personally, the screen resolution is high enough that I can see no imperfections. On other phones, I have sometimes seen some irregular edges on icons or text, but icons and text seem very clear and sharp to my eye. I don’t wear glasses so have pretty good eye sight, but it would take better eye sight than mine to detect any blurriness or jagged edges.
=============================================
SOUND AND CALL QUALITY
=============================================
The phone only has one front-facing speaker at the bottom of the phone. The sound isn’t great to be honest. This single speaker is moderately quiet – I’ve definitely had other phones with louder speakers. The speaker also sounds a bit tinier than other phones of a similar size. However, these aren’t problems for me as I usually watch content or listen to music using headphones.
Music and sound quality through headphones is very good. I don’t know about the technical details, but I suspect there is some kind of graphic equalizer or software which helps music and sound to sound good through both big headphones as well as smaller in-ear earphones.
Call quality is perfectly adequate on the phone. For calls, there is a speaker mounted at the top of the phone, which helps to direct sound into the ear. It’s a shame that this Sony Xperia didn’t use the opportunity to connect the top-mounted speaker with the one at the bottom to provide stereo sound.
=============================================
OTHER FEATURES I LIKE
=============================================
I like to be able to insert a memory card into the phone. I like to keep photos both on the phone as well as backed up to a memory card in case the phone dies. The fact that I can stick a memory card into the Sony Xperia is a big plus for me.
With three rear-facing cameras including one that is a telephoto lens, I’m enjoying being able to take photos that look great on my phone. I downloaded the photos onto my desktop computer and they look great as well. Someone with a more trained and critical eye might spot that other phones can deliver better photos, but the photos I’m taking (which are mainly of people on holiday) look great to me.
=============================================
CONCLUSIONS
=============================================
I really like that this is a compact phone. I want something that is small and light and not bulky, so this phone is great for that. But the fact that it also has a huge battery is great as I no longer have to worry about charging it every day. Everything works well for me in terms of taking photos and watching videos on it. The only criticism is that the built-in speaker doesn’t sound fantastic, but that’s not an issue for me.
