Why didn’t I find this sooner! Spent years struggling to prune my palm tree climbing to the top of a ladder with a saw. Brought this job done in ten minutes! Pruner cuts effortlessly and the saw is super sharp
Extends easily and no branch was out of reach
Now makes a laborious job easy highly recommend

Received at 12:15 set it up 1400hrs job done. I was not a massive job I had to do but it was an awkward one. I hade to cut back two trees but to get it done meant I had to use step ladders on uneven ground so my chain saw was not an option. This tool did the job in no time at all and to be truthful not a great deal of effort and I am 76 years young with all the usual aches and pains that one gets at this age. I have only one worry and that the saw blade is really sharp but does not come with a safety guard, I would still recommend this tool from Spear & Jackso

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis product has proved absolutely brilliant! Easy to use even at full extent, unbelievably effective at trimming/cutting. I have only used the secateur part, not yet used the saw, but marvel at what it can achieve. It feels at little heavy at first but is perfectly manageable and manouvrable for one person. I thoroughly recommend it as excellent value for money.

I needed to have a tool to reach high and awkward to get to branches. I had tried long reach loppers but the action and reach just didn’t work for that situation. This is a different story altogether. Assembly is minimal and the tool comes with simple but comprehensive instructions. The saw blade is really sharp and when I cut with it the effort needed was minimal. The pruners are great two and the tool extends to a really decent height. For my need this is the perfect tool. Well worth buying and used with the other tool I can tackle most of this sort of job

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFor 30 this is awesome. If you use it as intended it works very well. The saw made short work of large branches and the cropper took care of small to medium stuff. Cut back an overgrown hedge and pruned a tree with ease. I am fairly strong in upper body and found it a breeze to use, some people may need to take a break at intervals but it’s far from heavy or unwieldy.

For the price it’s a fantastic bit of kit.

Golden Review Award: 22 From Our UsersMy house was under attack from an indiscriminate tree and its army of branches that was getting ‘too close’ to the house according to my wife. Lacking the required tree felling knowledge and not wanting to actually kill a tree, I opted to get something that would allow me to trim the branches in some way. Now, my arms are pretty long, but not 3m long and even on a ladder I needed something that extended my chopping ability to longer than arms length. A trip to B&Q proved useless so I decided to go to the only manufacturer of things that sounds both tribal and warlike. Anything made by a company called ‘Spear and Jackson’ sounded like it could deal with things. It also sounds like the kind of 70s cop show that you know didn’t mess around. I ordered the item which looked, to me, like some kind of medieval weapon used in the Battle of Hastings. A sharp saw jutted out one edge, then a branch dismembering claw poked out the other with a long pulley cord to activate the mechanism. A short set up, and the Battle of the Bush could begin. That is also probably a title of a 70s film though more adult on nature. I digress, the blade is the sharpest thing I have ever pulled with a 2m cord. That thing was slicing through thick tree branches like they were nothing. It was also light weight which meant hoying it up a ladder was easy peasy. Before long I’d savaged that pesky tree within an inch of its life, it had gone from a 70s Barclays Bank – loads of branches – to the 00s version. Barely any branches. I was very pleased with how this operated and amazed at how sharp it was. The saw blade I never needed to use though I can see how effective it would be. After I was satisfied with enough dismembering I then realised I had about a lorry full of tree branches and leaves to somehow transport from the drive to the tip. That was the moment I regretted going at it like a mad chopping maniac. But this was well worth the money, all hail the Spear and Jackson Tree Branch Destroyer. Get one but think about what you’re doing too!

I am sooo delighted with this tool. I have a bit of a problem with my garden, as most of it is surrounded by my neighbour’s very large, annoying trees. It’s made my life easier, pruning the branches that overhang. This is brilliant, it cuts through the branches very well and does a neat job. It’s easy to use and reaches many hard places. I have also lent it to a few of my friends who also have found it very helpful. So effective and really good value for money.

This tool has earned the price I paid for it in one day, pruning a hard to reach tree and some large bushes. You need some strength in your arms to use it, but it is easy to manoeuvre once you get the gist of how it works. The pole extends to a decent length and the pruner is sharp and cuts easily. I used the saw as well for thicker branches, etc. I would recommend this product.

Spear & Jackson are a great firm that go the extra mile for customers. I bought one of these telescopic tree pruners several years ago and have used it often since purchasing. The saw really is razor sharp and cuts through branches, big and small, like a hot knife through butter even after a lot of use. The parrot beak pruner is also very sharp and will chop through smaller branches with ease. The telescopic handle is really stiff and strong but light and comfortable to use. Recently the spring the keeps the parrot beak open wore through on mine (after about six years of use) and I emailed sales via the Spear & Jackson website to see if I could purchase a replacement because the tool was still perfect. Guess what? I had an immediate reply from someone at sales telling me that they were going to send me a new spring with their compliments! (Thankfully I had included my name and address in the email.) This promptly arrived as promised and my Spear & Jackson pruner is back in operation for years more work. Now that’s what I call service! What a great product and what a great firm!

The tree pruner arrived on Tuesday-used it on Wednesday and probably saved 100s by doing the job myself instead using the tree surgeon that didn’t call back. Would thoroughly recommend.

I wanted a tool that would last so chose Spear and Jackson, I wasn’t disappointed, it lopped branches of various sizes with ease. The only down side for me was that I found it quite heavy but that could be due to the fact that I’m not as young as I used to be!

I can’t believe how cheap this was. I was a bit apprehensive, thinking it won’t be that good, but will give it a try. I was so wrong. It was really sharp & sliced through branches easily. The detachable saw was really useful for thicker branches as well. What a great buy, highly recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat extension, very sharp , needed two people for the higher branches though, one to hold the cutter ono the branch and one to pull the cutting rope but worked perfectly and cut through thick branches easily great value for money for a branded produc

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI had intended to cut back overhanging tree branches etc. However when it arrived, (promptly and in a rather large package), I realised that I would be unable to use it. I am a small elderly gentleman with not that much strength so holding it aloft for any period of time would be impossible. However the tree lopper was well made and i am sure perfectly efficient for someone with more muscle than me

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBoth the saw attachment and the cutter are incredibly, surgically sharp!

The saw is thin and whippy, making it easy to manoeuvre but difficult to cut thick branches unless it’s perfectly lined up. However, the cutter is amazingly sharp, with plenty of leverage, and easily goes through branches an inch thick or more.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersExcellent cutters! Easy to use. But I find them v heavy! Could do with being made from a lighter metal! I could do with a holster to take the weight round my waist, instead of in my arms! Arms get v tired! (I am 68 tho).

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI suddenly had no satellite signal and quickly put it down to an overgrown tree in the garden – my stepladder and secateurs was an accident waiting to happen, so I plumped for this – I wasn’t sure whether to spend the extra for the brand but I’m glad I did. When it turned up I was using it within 2 mins, after screwing in the saw blade, which is sharp so watch fingers! Branches about 15 – 20 mm were cut through with ease and we were soon back watching CBeebies.
Haven’t used the saw yet but it’s fairly sturdy and so long as your patient I imagine it should work well. It has a good reach and is easy to use.
The only down side was Amazon using DPD – it took nearly a week longer to arrive due to a number of errors – poor show from them.
But an excellent lopper, recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI read all the reviews of the other cheaper makes before buying this one.
    Pros
    Strongly made.
    Blades are very very sharp
    Works well.
    Saw is well made too.
It is not difficult to use even when fully extended.

    Cons
It’s not what I would call light weight, as it is well made, but not using aircraft aluminium, which of course would make it much more expensive.
You have to pull on a rope handle pulley system to get the blade to cut, you need gloves or rope can abraid your fingers. This could be better designed.
Rope gets a bit tangled up.
    Nothing else

I previously had a cheaper make but this one much much sharper and works well on big branches, and the saw is not flimsy either. Though my cheaper version had a better nylon webbing pully cutting system

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersA long-reach lopper, such as this one from the well-known manufacturer Spear and Jackson, is the best way of pruning at medium heights without the risk of ending up in A&E. I have used it for a while now and overall I am very pleased with it. Here is my summary of its good, and not so good, features.

The lopper blade if very effective at removing anything that can fit between it and the anvil, although of course you have to pull the rope hard to effect the cut. The handle for doing this is effective and has a neat device to quickly give the optimal length of cord. How long it will remain so sharp only time will tell. Unlike some reviewers I have had no problems with broken cords. The package mentions ‘stronger cord’ so I presume this is to meet the earlier criticisms that the cord/string was prone to break. Neither have I encountered problems with the various components failing in some way. Here you must be careful. After removing the tough plastic wrapping you may well find, as I did, that some of the nuts are very loose. Make sure that you tighten all of them and you should have no trouble. At least I haven’t. For larger branches you will have to use the saw blade. This is rather long and hence not always easy to weave between close branches. Its length also makes it a bit floppy when actually sawing, but with experience it does the job. The telescopic action is very easy to use and the extension pole holds firmly in place by the single large wing nut.

The biggest negative is the weight. Ideally it would be made of aluminium, but, perhaps because of its very long extension, the makers have chosen steel. This certainly produces a rigid device, but also makes it difficult to hold up high for extended periods. A great improvement would be if it were to come with a harness, such as used by people carrying large flags or banners at parades, so that the weight was carried on the shoulders rather than the lower back, the source of so much pain. To try and avoid the latter, although I use the lopper quite often, it is only for very short periods.
