Easy to install and set up. With a bit of in application looking I found out how to set up privacy block on neighboring garden. Was using ring previously and the quality is just as good
Easily set up installation cover my whole garden since someone let are rabbits out this is a great camera paid subscription very cheap so videos are safe , will be getting another one for from of house as well .
I found this camera very easy to set up,
I had a more expensive camera than this which was a nightmare to set and kept needing to be reconnected to the internet.
I recommend this camera.
Great budget camera with a perfect view of outside the house. Set up with the app had some teething troubles but got there in the end, used in Wi-Fi so enclosed the Ethernet connector in the trunking with the power lead. Watch the minute screws when fitting the micro SD card or pressing the reset button as lost one taking the little cover off.
I have purchased 2 of these cameras and they work perfectly,my only gripe is that the wide angle view is only 104 if it was more of a wider angle it would be spot on,that said its still a good cheap camera 5 stars.
For that price product is good, working as it should. Just like on the photo. I am using as outside house camera and I am happy with it. On the phone quality of view and nostrifications are all correct and fine.
I’ve had a tapo camera for a long while, overlooking my front door , did the job just right!
So needing to cover drive and back gate I decided to stick to what I know.
This is a better security camera than my tapo 310 .
The TC65 has great picture quality, sound also good , night vision is excellent, and I covers everything I wanted right down main road (100 ft plus)
I had trouble getting it set up .. wireless connection, I was getting very frustrated !! Then dear Alexa asked if it could connect camera ? Yes please ! All done no fuss … Thank you Alexa
I’m not very good at following instructions .. things should be common sense??
I bought this camera to replace a similar type that was not up to the task. This little camera however is brilliant. Great connectivity when I am at home or away. With alerts coming to my phone when it detects people or movement, it has allowed me to quickly access the recordings, even when away on holiday overseas using 4 and 5G. The settings allows you to change the sensitivity along with type ie People and Movement. Easy to set up and go.
Make sure one formats the SD card (sold seperately) in the Tapo app after inserting it into the camera. I made the mistake of thinking I needed to format it first on my computer.
I have the camera monitoring my first garden. The motion/line detection literally detects ANYTHING, which also includes rain in night vision. I was getting notifications every few minutes, even on the lowest sensitivity setting. So for me, this is not viable. 🙁
I only have notifications for people detection and camera tampering only. The AI is very smart, a little too smart. Any shadow (e.g. from car lights at night) that looks any way like a person is detected. Voices are also detected as a “person”, even when not in the camera’s view.
Those are the cons out of the way.
I love having the option to buy a subscription and having the recordings on the cloud. But also not having to get a subscription just to use the camera. I also love having the option of just storing it on the SD card and downloading the recordings to my device. The recordings loop, so the oldest ones get deleted first when it’s fun.
I like that I can set an alarm with either a small flashing white light or a siren/tones, or both when it’s detecting a person. Will make people actually notice the camera recording them.
I like how I can look at my front garden even if I’m in bed, or see if I need to get up and answer the door (i.e. if it’s someone I know or the post delivery person, or someone soliciting something.)
I think for the price, it’s actually incredibly underpriced for what’s included. I also have 4 Tapo smart plugs where I can turn them off and on with my phone. I do really love TP-Link’s Tapo
The picture is great, both daytime and night. My 128gb SD card stores a couple of weeks of recordings (frequent activity). The only negative is the AI person detected isn’t great as it constantly activated when it rains. Good value for money though
No 24/7 recording despite the subscription .
Image quality is excellent day and night , clear enough to see faces at night , motion sensitivity is a little too much as it picks up the tiniest bit flying past , but this can be turned down.
Cable sits inside a closed window without an issue so no need for drilling
So this was the second time I’ve bought this camera for my house . The first one is still working perfectly, the picture is great quality and the automatic day night mode works perfectly, the best part of this camera is it’s subscription free , I just use a SD card in the camera and with the app can review all the footage I want .
I recently bought this outdoor camera and it’s been a game changer. The picture quality is absolutely amazing. Everything is really clear. Also, the sound quality is great too, you can hear a lot and I can hear sounds from down the street really clearly. Overall, it’s a great camera and seems reliable.
So, my minor issues are two. One is that although there are many sensitivity settings the bottom line is that it is far too sensitive. I have turned off all the many different types of settings, like the ‘sensitivity zone’, ‘motion detection’, ‘area intrusion detection’ etc. I left on ‘person detection’ on a low setting. It is still sending me alarm messages constantly. It is raining a bit but surely that shouldn’t happen. Regrettably if I can’t find an answer I may have to return it.
The second issue is that I was expecting to be able to wire the camera into an electric circuit. I can’t. I had to find a socket to plug the power supply into. Also the cable has a 20mm plug for the internet connection. So I had to run a socket close by and then drill a 20mm hole for the cable. I had hoped to get another camera and connect it to the power of an outdoor light. Sadly that’s not possible.
Overall a great product, but I may have a faulty one.
Acces to the recorded video is accessible. No delay there loading the data like other brands. I bought extra SD card. Camera detects it straight away. Value for money .
Highly recommended
Cheers
After much searching I settled on the Tapo cameras easy to set up and working very well – not sure the battery will last quite so long as advertised, but even a charge once a month or so isn’t bad overall highly rated
Down side is it is not quite as sensitive as I would like. At further distance there are occasions where it does not get triggered, so you may want to position closer.
Night vision is good, as are the lights and speaker.
Be aware this does not constantly record and it Pir triggered, not triggered by visual movement.
Camera needs to be installed out of reach as they are easy to detach and tamper with or run off with.
For the price I wasn’t expecting much but the camera seems to be very well made, was easy to set up and install and works very well. We’re just about to enter winter so we’ll see what happens to the camera after a few months of cold, rain and frost but so far I’m impressed and I’ll probably be buying another for a different area of the garden.
In spite of these points the overall experience is good and so far reliability and wireless range is good. ( I did have an indoor camera fail on taking a firmware update but if was a few years old).
Recommended especially when heavily discounted.
We had the misfortune to move to an area that we didn’t know was unsavoury. Bought these and they helped us massively! Battery life will depend on how you set things up but we get over 4 weeks out of a charge. Moved to a nicer area and still use them but don’t monitor them obsessively now.
This wireless probe recommended by a friend is easy to install and requires no wiring. I have been using it for 4 days and it is very clear! Especially the night market effect is very good. AI face recognition and voice recognition are also very practical!
That said; easy to fit, easy to set up, very useful features including AI ‘person detection’ which is what I ended up using because it does a great job of distinguishing between a human and, say a cat or a leaf. On the other hand, even at low sensitivity the motion sensing is triggered by rain, dust, insects, shadows and everything else imaginable which limits its usefulness.
You can use almost all of the features of this camera when you’re using an SD card to record rather than the subscription service. All in all, very satisfied as a home user.
The notifications on the app is so annoying, because it simply keeps detecting every car every body walking past and genuinely don’t know how to fix that. All being well. It’s really handy for security and protection.
I am using this camera for last 6 months and very pleased with it. I can watch my front of the house and it does perform quite well in damp and wet weather. Overall very good IP camera and improved my house security.
Notifications tend to be instant and have spoken to delivery drivers. Can on occasion be slow to sync between app and camera.
Over all great product and have recommended to others who have also purchased.
I bought the Outdoor Battery 2-Cam Kit in November 2022. The system was very easy and straightforward to set up and install. It worked perfectly for about 18 months or so. One of the cameras then developed a problem. Live-view worked fine and it recorded everything it should have done, but it was not possible for me to view the recordings via the app on my phone.
I contacted TP Link who responded very quickly and effectively. After a thorough investigation by the excellent TP Link Technical Support Team, the problem was successfully resolved.
I bought two of these, great cameras and the quality of the recordings is very good, however the instructions are not the best and also the motion detection settings are a nightmare to set up still struggling now.. but the cameras work well and I cant fault the quality.
They were easy to fit, and Wi-Fi coverage is fine for me. Also, great value for money. Only downside is the monthly subscription, but most cameras have this.
Good camera but would be better with a wide angle lens, about 20% of what i’m pointing the camera to is missing.
My TC70 is better in picture and angle, takes less space.
Only down fall is you can’t just save the clips unless you plug the sd card into your pc, you have to record it on your phone, transfer the file would be great.
I was a little bit sceptical for the price but I’m really pleased. The camera was really easy to set up, the app works well and images are clear. If I was to give one negative it would be that it is sometimes too sensitive, I end up getting lots of notifications for heavy rain or things blowing a bit in the wind.
This has offered reassurance that we can observe visitors to our property even when we are not home. 4 stars as it does drop off the Internet from time to time , but this is easily remedied.
Great value for your money, easy to set up and offers maximum security almost professional quality. The Tapo range is a must for ease and worry free home security. Night or day anywhere you can access the cameras. I’ve invested a lot into the brand and I highly rate them.
More than one type purchased tapo seem to be a good make all the products from them have all worked and are still working fine. Memory cards are installed in my cameras so no need to sign up to their cloud storage system, which I would consider doing if I have to move my workshop away from my house. Good will buy agai
Picrure quality is superb and the wide anngle lense gives great coverage.
Subscription is required however you can install 128gb sd card.
You can get an extension cable to supply power. Im connected ovee wifi and you can wire in ethernet cable also (note for external use without a an outdoor plug it has to go to a window , vent is nor feasible.
And to feed through a pilot hole through external wall seemed excessive.
Camera comes with water protection gromits. A bonus.
Privacy settings avaliable dor concerned neighbour infringement.
Tapo security camera is a good deterrent against light finger-thieving foxes prowling the streets at night when others are fast asleep in their beds, this camera picks up sounds and movements, and you can stay at work or on holiday and check up on it to see what has entered uninvited unto your property
Tapo support on the internet is speedy and thorough in its response resolving one issue I had, of my own making, not the camera’s fault.
I subscribed to the Tapo Cloud for ease of storage and deletion of unwanted video clips rather than using an
SD card, downloading clips to then view, save and/or delete.
Battery life depends on usage and camera settings. I use the Privacy Mode when at home to conserve battery power.
Tapo have just released spare battery packs, it seemed prudent to purchase one so that I can rotate charging the cameras without one ever being out of use.
My large dog gives ample warning of anyone approaching the property when using Privacy Mode!
Excellent value for money. So impressed with video quality and the ability to alter the coverage area and the phone alerts.
The cameras have also let us watch the other wildlife, such as foxes, badgers and hedgehogs. Even moths and bats flying around are on camera. Quite entertaining.
Are there any limitations to these cameras? The range of the infra red lights is around 15m, adequate but our garden is large. I noticed that the IR lighting of the rear camera is bouncing off the soffit boards so I’ll fit a baffle. The motion detection does recognise humans from other movements and the playback time bar is colour coded to indicate this. Unfortunately, rain drops are interpreted as something on the move so rainy nights can be busy on the playback bar. The neighbourhood spiders sometimes spin webs on the cameras so they show up too.
In our rural location, electricity can be an optional extra and extended power cuts screw up the camera connections to the local network. They need resetting using a tiny button inside a panel on the underside of each camera. Once reset, one just reconnects the cameras as though newly acquired. Note, though, that this can be a pain if the cameras are hard to reach. We have one accessible from an upstairs window to get around this problem.
We haven’t really used the audio connections on the cameras and, after the free month, we haven’t used the rented online storage preferring just to store locally with 32Gb micro SD cards inside the cameras. These continuously overwrite when the cards are full but archive footage can accessed via the software and saved on tablets. It would be nice if the developers produce software to run on proper computers as well.
Videos should las longer when person is still in view . Also volume isn’t loud enough .
Bought the camera for my security, but needed louder volume for evidence when my nightmare neighbour becomes abusive towards me .
Really easy to install and found the app full of useful features and customisation.
The camera quality is really good and really like that all the data gets sent to a hub that you can place anywhere in the house aslong as you have an Ethernet connection to the router. Would be even better if you can set the different types of detection I.e person, pet etc to do different alarms at different times of the day/nigh
Recordings are saved to SD card, phone, or Tapo server, I use SD and server. Luckily I’ve never had to use it in evidence but it certainly would identify someone if needed.
Easy to install, easy to set up, and easy to use! Brilliant bit of kit., works great with my Show 8.
Very pleased with these. Quality is good. App is excellent. Two way audio so you can have a conversation. Popped a micro SD card in so can have play back. I bought 3 in the end as they are great . Got one over 100 feet from router in the garden and working fine on wi-fi. Motion detection is great. Used it to find entrance point for small rodent so could block off . I paid under 30 on deal but would happily pay more .
The next camera pack was set up extremely quickly with no problems. I have to say that Tapo have got the user friendly set up procedure perfect. I have one camera at the front outside of the house and the second at the rear outside. The cameras are completely wireless and very easy to mount. I have had no problem with signal strength and camera connections. The quality of the colour video is extremely good. There are plenty of options for setting alarms and motion detection, including screening for people, pets or vehicles using the inbuilt AI algorithms. I have been playing with the cameras and settings a lot but the batteries seem to be holding up very well and after approximately 6 days they are still at 96%.
Notifications are sent promptly to my email address. Overall, these cameras are superb and very affordable.
The only downsides at the moment are: you cannot buy spare batteries for the cameras although I am advised by Tapo that these will be available for sale very shortly. Also, you cannot buy a separate individual camera. You can only buy them in the Twin Pack at the moment. Again, I am led to believe that you will be able to buy individual cameras soon. I am so pleased with the cameras that I am considering buying a second twin pack to locate in ‘blind spots’ around my house.
31/03/2023: Bought a second twin pack and these worked perfectly out of the box. They were set up in no time with one camera connected to my existing H200 Hub and the second camera connected to the new H200 Hub. Battery life is fantastic. Obviously to get the best battery life I have played with all the settings to optimise the performance for my needs versus battery life. I have always been sceptical about the battery life of such cameras but I have to say that these are brilliant. I have to say that I have found the video recording to the MicroSD cards that I have installed into the H200 Hubs is more than adequate making it unnecessary to subscribe to the Tapo Cloud recording option. As a result of my experience so far I have upgraded my Review to 5 Stars
I thought the “network is unstable” message was due to a slow micro SD card. But even after using a faster card, the issue still comes up. I am now planning to return the item for a refund and try another brand.
=== Original ===
At first I was having trouble with video playback. I kept seeing the message “The network is unstable” – which is actually a very misleading error message!
I later discovered it was due to the memory card I used at first was too slow. I thought the memory card (SanDisk Ultra 32GB) was ok at first, even though its more than 10 years old, because it had the “Ultra” label on it. But I was finding that the playback only works consistently when I am on the same WiFi network. And when on a different network, e.g. via 4G mobile internet, the playback only works occasionally, and the message “The network is unstable” would popup if playback didn’t work.
I then bought a modern micro sd card, and that immediately fixed the problem!
I later read on the instruction manual that it did specify the memory card needs to be Class 10 (which the SanDisk Ultra 32GB was not). And I did a memory card speed check, and it turned out the write-speed was indeed too slow. It barely reached above 10MB/s. Whereas the new card claims to be able to do 50MB/s.
Setup is simple and the accompanying Tapo app is really easy to use. Cloud storage can be purchased, although there’s no need to as video footage can be saved to the camera’s internal SD card (not included) therefore these cameras can be operated with no onward running costs.
Slight negatives: the wiring requires a hole over 20mm in diameter if you wish to pass the waterproof shrouds for both the power and ethernet connectors through a wall directly behind where the camera is installed – or – these hang below the camera and look a bit of a mess. I had to snip the ethernet cable on one of my cameras to resolve this (not ideal). Not the best design. Also, the camera isn’t the most inconspicuous with the large WiFi antennas on either side.
All things considered, a great budget camera that does everything I want.
