Battery life has been excellent and it sounds great indoors as well as outdoors. Sound is good and does not break up even at a high level – this unit can go very load. Only criticism is that Alexa sound pick up is poor and you need to be quite close to the unit before it can pick up your voice commands.

Sound quality, bluetooth range, clarity are all excellent. Alexa responsiveness is poor. Speaker quality is easily comparable to most cheap stereo systems, but so portable to go anywhere.

The portable charging kit is seriously recommended as otherwise the speaker needs to be plugged in via the cable if used a lot. The custom case is also recommended as it protects the speaker and cables/plugs while in transit.

You have to decide how important portability is, as to whether you buy this speaker.

It doesn’t sound as full bodied as a full size Apple HomePod, however it connects to
Your phone much easier, despite it being one Apple product talking to another, over their proprietary communication system ‘airplay’, the HomePod was a nightmare to connect toso I sold it

It doesn’t have the bass and room filling capability of an old bose sound touch 10. But it does have better overall sound quality than the Bose.

The sound quality of this speaker is very good and the fact that I can charge it and place it anywhere is a big bonus.

The speaker connects first time via Bluetooth, which is a lot better than the sound touch and the HomePod, mentioned above.

It’s called a megablast, but you will be disappointed if you expect a wall of sound to knock you backwards or take your breath away.

I can however, definitely recommend this speaker. It sounds good, it connects easily and you can put it anywhere, which is a bigger benefit than you would
    Imagine

First off this is my first Bluetooth speaker so I can’t compare this to other speakers. After a lot of research and viewing reviews, I decided to buy this one. I bought this one because I did not want a tinny sound that I think many cheaper speakers have, and although this is by far not tinny I must say that I am a little disappointed with the overall sound as the base isn’t as good as I thought it would be, But that could just be me expecting too much. The app that you download is very basic indeed and the sound settings on the app don’t appear to make much difference, My biggest gripe is that if you don’t buy The overpriced charging dock that I think should be included,”note I bought a generic charging dock which is black and half the price” you have to turn the speaker on its side to charge it.

Great little speaker, really impressed with the sound – nice deep bass when you want it and the mid- and high-range is nice too, not tinny at all, like some portable speakers.

Very easy to set up and start using (download the app, pair them, do the updates etc etc, it didn’t take too long).

Only down side for me is the battery life – it’s not in daily use, and seldom for more than 90min at a time, but I’m definitely getting way less than the claimed 16 hours in the product description. I have switched off the Alexa option and as many of the other settings that I think would be draining the battery while it’s not in use but doesn’t seem to have made a difference.

Might just be me, or maybe I got a bit of duff one, but either way I’m still happy to recommend it, I like it a lot.

The sound is OK. I can keep the volume low and still hear it clearly although some low end may drop. It can get loud, proper loud if you want it to. Not Clubbing loud, but can hold a constant and punchy volume in a large garden/ space without a struggle.
Couple of issues though; the Bluetooth signal stutters/drops sometimes and I squint at it with disappointment. I can have internet and Bluetooth device (phone) inches away and it still does it.
Also, I’m not sure what Alexa is up to as it’s not very responsive.
I hope a software update will rectify or it will become a love/hate relationship for me.

    PROS:
SOUND: This speaker sounds absolutely amazing! Having 2x tweeters built-in brings a lot of sparkle and definition to the top end. The sound is clear at any volume. The bass response is very punchy and doesn’t muddy other frequencies. I am enjoying the sound out this speaker very much indeed!
BUILD: The build is solid! Very solid. This is a speaker that will survive the roughest of environments.
BATTERY: Battery life is solid, easily taking me through a whole day of non stop listening.
WIFI: A little spoken feature is that this speaker is a Wifi speaker as well! This enables music to be played through the speaker whilst freeing the phone for calls and other things. Also, the sound quality over WiFi is improved as the bandwidth is larger, especially with HD music.
LOOKS and FEEL: This is a subjective matter but this speaker looks and feels great to touch. Being an upright cylinder it has a very small footprint and looks awesome an ornament.

    CONS:
ALEXA: Alexa feature is poor. It kind of works but I have it turned off.
CHARGING: Separate charging dock is expensive and the USB micro charging cable is proprietary.
CONTROLS: Only volume controls on the speaker is silly.

    CONCLUSION:
This is a mighty impressive speaker that will satisfy anyone seeking a very good sound unit that can fill up a room with ease. I spend hours listening to music on it and the detail and humph never cease to impress me. It’s loud too!

    Suberb Powerful and Detailed Sound!

Initially after reading good reviews I bought the ue Megaboom 3, nothing wrong with it, it was ok, but the bass was a bit flappy, flat and lifeless and I wasn’t really happy with it so I returned it and ordered a Megablast. WOW what a difference, this is a seriously powerful speaker with great bass and good detail and great battery life as well. I have had mine for 6 months now so I felt that was a long enough time to give it a good test and review. This speaker even holds its own outside. I have given it 4 stars only as it has Alexa built in which unless you shout at it from less than a metre doesn’t work. If you don’t need to use the Alexa but you just want a great sounding speaker that delivers then buy a Megablast and you won’t be disappointed.

Amazing Bluetooth/WIFI speaker. When at home I usually stream Spotify over WIFI, and use Bluetooth paired with my phone when outdoors. Amazing sound quality for a small speaker, sturdy build and waterproof. The only issue I have is with Alexa, the microphone doesn’t pickup commands very well and you have to actually move to within a foot and shout out your commands for it to pick up, but that doesn’t bother me too much.

Reducing 1 star because of poor performance of Alexa

Don’t buy this for Alexa capabilities stick to amazon devices for that nonsense. As a bluetooth speaker this is seriously good. Up there with the best you can buy. Seriously powerful. Yeah it maybe a bit heavy on the base but you can sort this via the equaliser in the app. Great as stand alone speaker but when you start to connect a few of these together it’s pretty awsome. Very sturdy, very heavy. I have 2 and intend to get 2 more. From pink floyd to foals to jean michel jarre to the prodigy this is awesome all round. I have never paid more than 110 for these on black Friday deals but I would pay more. Seriously guys, if your into your music get a couple of these, they are seriously good.

I bought my Megablast during the Amazon Prime day deals for a great price (I was about to buy a regular Blast before I noticed the deal!)

As a Bluetooth speaker it is excellent, I checked a few review sites before purchasing and they all agreed the sound is excellent… which it is. In fact I’ve not turned it up all the way yet… half way is plenty loud enough without annoying the neighbors! the bass is great and the sound is very clear.

However when it comes to using it for Alexa (which I didn’t buy it for) it’s pretty useless. Apparently there is a now software issue which UE don’t seem to be in any hurry to fix. I have to literally shout at it to get it to wake up and then have the time after giving a command it doesn’t do anything. If I had bought it with this function in mind I’d have probably sent it back.

Alexa aside, this is an awesome Bluetooth speaker and I would highly recommend it… especially for the price I paid!

The speaker is very well made and sounds fantastic. Needs a few improvements, unless you open the app it defaults back to standard EQ and not custom you have set up, so you have to change it. The Alexa software is terrible it takes around 4 or 5 times to understand my Yorkshire voice then can’t understand me, that and you have to stand right next to it. Sublime hardware terrible software. Got for 99 on prime day, glad I didn’t pay over this.

Good speaker for the price it kind of leaves you wanting more volume if used outside though, it’s great for indoor use and even very good for the garden as it has boundaries to bounce off so it is amply enough for a garden party, however if you went to a playing field etc it’s not amazing I would say you can hear it fine for about 20-25 metres away but barely audible from 35-50 metres away, the bass us good and doesn’t seem too distorted when played near its full volume and I listen to drum n bass , the battery is not what it’s cracked up to be they say upto 16hrs battery life I would say at full volume you get an average of 4 hours before charging is needed, this is the 2nd one I had as the first one kept losing Bluetooth connected d then just started powering off even when charged, then it stopped charging also, that was after about 40 hours playing time, overall it’s a great speaker and I cannot envisage getting a better speaker for the price, just don’t believe the reviews that say battery lasts 10-16 hours and that it’s going to shake the next door neighbours house dow

Really good speaker if you plan to play your music loud and want good base.

The Alexa connectivity is also a great feature when on WiFi as you can play music/radio with a simple request.

I can be hit and miss with the voice commands though which can be frustrating. I don’t like having to use the Alexa app to control the content though. This is more of an Alexa issue. Just not as good as Google home which unfortunately this speaker doesn’t support. I have also been unable to pair to my Google home mini through blootooth which should be able to do.

At certain volumes the speaker can be jumpy between volume levels, would have preferred more control but this is only a minor.

    Pros
    Great sound
Great option to play though alexa
    Amazing battery life

    Cons
Alexa content controls through app are poor
    No Google connectivity
You can’t cast content directly from other apps. Needs to be connected to Bluetooth or linked to Alexa skills.
    Alexa controls disappoint

Having said all that, I spend most of the time playing directly though Alexa for the radio which is great. Just don’t expect too much control if you want to keep changing what you are playing unless you are using Bluetooth.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI already have the small Wonderboom and love it. I bought this larger Megablast for more volume and bass. It is used mainly for outside, in the garden, barbequeues with friends etc. For this purpose it is absolutely excellent. No problems with the bluetooth music streaming from my phone. The android Blast app was installed and all the setting up was effortless.

Now the Alexa, on my particular speaker, very poor! Works once, but only if you hold the speaker in your hand and talk to it at a range no further than about a foot away! To work again (once!) involves turning the speaker off then on again.

As previously stated, the Megablast was purchased for outside party use so the Alexa, while disappointing, is not a deal breaker for me.

One other slight problem is that the speaker turns itself on occasionally, uncommanded! When not being used I keep it in the additionally purchased charging dock so not any particular hassle as regards battery usage. I initially worried that it might be “listening” to me while I was unaware, but again as previously stated, the inbuilt mics are so deaf, that it couldn’t hear me anyway!

I’m happy enough, with just the sound quality, but if YOUR requirement is a working digital assistant then good luck!

I bought this speaker recently as an upgrade over my last bluetooth speaker the Sony SRS-X33. The Ultimate Ears Megablast is no exception for a worthy upgrade in terms of using it for a normal everyday Bluetooth speaker. The sound quality is top notch and high quality. The speaker can go extremely loud and that is you want in a Bluetooth Speaker. But the huge downside is the big selling point with this one, and that is the Alexa integration. For me I have to pretty close to the speaker or nearly yell at it to pick up my voice from a bit of a distance. Not only that it’s a bit finicky eg I asked Alexa to turn down the volume down to 4 but went really loud instead, and would stop the music sometimes when I never ask it too. Now I really don’t know if its a defect in some of the Megablast speakers because I see some people on Youtube or reviews saying the Alexa integration works really well.

Overall: Great speaker but from my experience not great microphone (unless Ultimate Ears can provide me with a new one with a better mic)

Love the sound. Compared it side by side in a shop with competitors. LG ThinQ has a similar quality sound. It even beat some more expensive portable speakers from Bose. Megablast sounds quite god – enough detail to hear the vocals and punch to feel the bass. It’s not as deep and doesn’t cover the entire frequency range as a proper hifi system, but it does sound a lot better than cheap radios and not far off from low to mid end sound systems. And it’s portable!

Loved the price. Got it at a discount, so was the best portable sound. At full price – still great but may need to think more about its competitors.

Love that I can carry it from room to room and output from phone or laptop.

Pleased that the battery can last days with my moderate usage.

    Don’t care for Alexa.

Not impressed that you can’t charge it and keep it standing.

Bothered that sometimes it confuses which device to connect to when you have more than one paired.

Hate that it does not have a 3.5 jack and I can’t connect it to analog gadgets. It’s cheaper brother has it but the sound wasn’t as good when I listened to both side by side.

Hate that the WiFi connectivity is only for Alexa.

    Buy.

    Amazing!.
I decided to splurge quite a few quid on a speaker. As far as audio quality goes, I’m quite particular. I dislike the overall boomy bass enhanced trebles (v or smiley Eq curve). I’m into balanced audio, and this Bluetooth speaker does it better than anything portable. There’s enough bass not to be “lacking” and with the extra tweeters, allows treble and mids to sit above nicely. Without tweeters, the main driver would have to compensate on the highs, mids or bass (can’t have all 3), especially at the volume this plays at. Indoors, there might be a bit too much bass (you tend to focus on the bass more than any other frequencies). I never found the treble to be piercing which is very impressive. This has clarity. I’d rather have clarity and and less grumbling than more bass but less precise treble and muddy/lacking mids.

I bought this for a little music and sound while working in the garage and garden, and without the need for a second device to run it by, just WiFi.
Following the advised set up, you need two apps! – Ultimate Ears and Alexa. The one tells you the status of the speaker and the other what you can ask Alexa in terms of services. Though we subscribe to Amazon Prime, with a promise of Prime Music, there is no way of persuading Alexa to play this (it wants to charge extra for Amazon Music – luckily she understands “No”).
It seems to be a learning curve at first, for both sides, but slowly we’re getting the right results from Alexa.
The speaker itself is excellent for its intended purpose: it keeps a good charge, has a good range on WiFi, (only use the Bluetooth to talk to the UE app), and a clear bright sound. Loud enough too, when using power tools or simply walking a distance from the unit.
Looking at it, I wouldn’t trust to immerse it in water but it looks rainproof which is another consideration I had.
It looks like some ornamental object of christian faith with its manual volume control icons up the side. And I’m agnostic, but I let it pass.
    Very pleased with it.

I picked this on an amazon prime day deal for about 100 and i’m very happy with the quality i received for that price. The speaker seems well built and has a good quality of sound and there is absolutely no distortion even right up to max volume which is very impressive. I would however not pay full retail price because i feel there are better options for the similar prices and the alexa function might as well not even be on the speaker it is so poor
if you are looking for the alexa functionality you will be extremely disappointed. the only way i could get the alexa assistant to activate is if there was complete silence in the room and i held the speaker next to my mouth and shouted “Alexa…..” the alexa assistant would not respond unless i was talking directly into the microphone. This is a shame as one of the main selling points for me was the fact i could use the alexa speaker.

To conclude…. if you can pick this up for a good price and youre not bothered about the alexa functionality you will be very happy with this speake

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI already own a Sonos system but I wanted something portable that I could take out into the garden. Being mightily impressed with Sonos, I reserved expectations for the Megablast. I was lucky to spot these during the recent Amazon Prime Day; two speakers for 70 less than one at normal RRP, a fantastic deal! However, when they arrived I was a little underwhelmed with how they sounded. I even thought to myself that I was glad I hadn’t paid RRP as it wouldn’t be worth it. My fault entirely! After grouping the two speakers together, I had neglected to select “stereo” in the app. Once I had done that, I had a real “Wow!!!” moment. They sound absolutely fantastic. I tried them whilst I was sat in a sun lounger and had one at either side of the chair out on the decking. The sound totally immerses you. They are VERY loud when cranked up so I did have to be aware of the neighbours. I didn’t buy these to use with Alexa so I can’t really comment on some of the echo glitches mentioned in other reviews. However, the only negative so far is that Alexa sometimes interrupts the music without being prompted. I’m sure I can fix that though when I’ve done a bit of homework or simply sign out of Alexa when using the speakers. I can’t recommend the Megablast enough but would definitely encourage buying two if budget allows; pairing in stereo really makes a huge difference.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have many Sonos speakers in my house from Play 1 to 5 but as we all know, Sonos do not do a battery powered speaker. So I read that the Megablast was as good as Sonos Play1 and bought it. I have had the Megablast for many months now and sadly I can say that even the baby Sonos Play1 has noticeably better sound quality than the Megablast. The Megablast is almost twice the size of the Play1 and is not as portable as I though due to its size. I have also since heard the Megaboom and feel it has better sound quality than the Megablast (but without Echo functionality.. However that doesn’t mean the Megablast is not any good, it just doesn’t sound as good as the Play1.

This was my first bluetooth speaker and I’m really pleased with it. Alexa integration also works without any issues. Not sure why people have some many problems – mine had 0 issues.

Since buying this, I have also bought Beoplay A1 and Beoplay M5, but the UE Megablast remains my default go to speaker. Excellent battery life, superb sound, bluetooth AND Wi-Fi. Managed to get this on Black Friday deal at 129.99 and have used it almost every day. Highly recommend it.

UPDATE 30/07/19: I have now bought second Megablast at the silly Amazon Prime Day price of 99. Paired it up with my initial one and….why have I waited so long!? The 2 Megablast sound AMAZING!!! To be fair, spent ages trying to pair it up using the app – useless!! Finally paired the 2 speakers using speakers themselves (See UE site for info) – worked first time. So, so pleased!

Waiting for Black Friday deal to get my 3rd. Trust me, these speakers are amazing, and with Alexa integration, you can’t go wrong. Both work perfectly. Recommend!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI got this at a great price. The RRP of 279 is a total joke, especially as it then priced around Sonos and Homepod territory which are in different class when it comes for sound.

What you have is a very durable, stylish, portable, waterproof speaker which competes well with other similar speakers. The sound is clear, and perhaps a bit too shrill in the treble which I think will improve as the speaker runs in. Bass is tight, controlled and free of distortion which is not easy to achieve. Midrange reasonable accurate. It certainly plays loud. I would not call it Hi-Fi..you need the Sonos or HomePod for that (in stereo configuration).

It is a bit large but still portable. You really do need the dock to make the most of Alexa. Alexa works fine in contrast to some of the reviews, perhaps not as responsive as an Echo.

So a good buy, but only at discounted prices. Little competition apart from the JBL Link 20 which has Google Smart assistant.

I will update after more use.
