You need to charge the batteries before you use it, one battery had a bit of power in it so I could demonstrate it for the video.
I hope this one lasts longer than the cheap one I bought 2 months ago from a different seller.
This will be used tomorrow at work. Will update later but for now it looks n runs brilliantly
This is a sturdy little machine and does exactly what I needed it to do, batteries are easy to charge and a good enough life in the batteries for what I need.
Brilliant….im a woman using this. I found it easy to use. Not too heavy. Safety button very good.
The battery charge lasts for ever. Great little saw I cut down loads of branches on a single charge
I’ve been impressed with this mini chainsaw, it’s lightweight and easily held with one hand. Taking the video and cutting the wood was difficult with one hand, I know I was cutting too near the hilt but I needed to support the wood instead of holding the phone.
The name ValueMax did make me wonder if it would explode or fall to bits but it’s actually a well put together saw. The plastic is a little on the budget side but it feels strong enough and it all moves and works as it should and the more I’ve used it the more confidence I have in it (hopefully not right before it kills me).
The battery charges as well as any other and the weight adds a good balance to the one handed hold and it feels very comfortable to hold. It has a sensible blade guard on top the will hinge away as you cut. For wood as thick as Pringles tube it works very well, it’s on a par speed wise as a reciprocating saw but this is a lot smaller and easier to use with awkward angles and tight spaces, it doesn’t have the flexible blade of the reciprocating saw so is easier to control at height when trimming back.
All in all I really like this saw, it’s easy to tighten or remove the chain with the lock key inbuilt and it’s much easier to attach to yourself in a tool belt which up a ladder.
Easily recommended, if I lose an arm I’ll let you know (when I’ve learnt to use my phone with my left hand)
I’m nervous by nature and the idea of a cheap chainsaw from an unknown and cheap-sounding brand did fill me with the heebee-jeebies a little bit. It definitely sounded like an accident waiting to happen.
However, the build quality of the device itself left me pleasantly surprised. It’s lightweight for single-handed use yet it’s not flimsy, and it allows for a very good firm grip even in thick safety gloves. It barely rattles or vibrates at all when being used, and generally it all feels quite firm and solid. Similarly, the battery and charging base feel like a pretty sensible bit of kit too.
It’s described as a pruning saw, and sure enough, it isn’t all that powerful. For pruning back plants with thicker stems, it will do the job, but for anything involving proper wood- whether in the garden or other DIY work- this saw isn’t going to cut it (pun intended). It can cut into a lighter wood, based on some spare pieces I had lying around, but it’s not a very neat or clean cut and it feels like the chainsaw equivalent of using blunt scissors.
Safety-wise I’m reasonably happy with it, when wearing the appropriate gloves and eye protection obviously. I wouldn’t want to use it in any awkward situations though (like climbing up a tree slightly to reach a taller plant or anything like that). The cover to cover the blade when not in use feels a bit flimsy, and if you’ve got young kids, you’ll definitely want to keep it well out of their reach at all times.
For casual gardening use, this is definitely a timesaver, and easily up to par. Professional DIY’ers and garden landscapers will need something stronger and more durable, but if all you’re using it for is some routine cutting back in the back garden, this saw will definitely help- and it is just a little bit fun to use too.
This arrived in a simple box, with the chainsaw itself, and empty bottle for chainsaw oil, the charging unit and some sparse instructions.
It took just over an hour to fully charge the battery which clicks (and unclicks) into the chainsaw easily.
The chainsaw is perfect for light duties (thicker branches that the pruners won’t touch and anything you would normally attack with a bowsaw) and it does cut well, with no kinking of the chain. It does stay reasonably clean after use but would still need a wipe down before storage. Weight is okay, nothing like an electric or petrol as it is a lot smaller. I haven’t attempted anything too large as I do have an electric chainsaw for bigger jobs but I have found this indispensable for the smaller jobs.
This is a very useful piece of kit a mini chain saw that is cordless so no wires to contend with We charged it on receipt and it is still working brilliantly. It can be used as a pruning saw to prune trees or to cut wood for other DIY jobs it is powerful and sharp Love the safety button that makes it very safe to use. Absolutely love this little saw it has been a lifechanger. Highly recommended
This mini chainsaw is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I have numerous trees and shrubs and try to keep them trimmed back. I’m not confident enough to use a large chainsaw as I have arthritis. A small hand or tree saw can be hard work. This gadget is ideal.
The big plus is that it’s comfortable to hold. I can grip it easily and it doesn’t vibrate too much. It’s very manoeuvrable as there are no leads to manage and it’s easy to access points right up to the trunk of a couple of trees I prune. It’s noisy, as expected, but fir short bursts, it’s not an issue. I’ve been able to whizz round the garden, lopping off unwanted growth with ease and very little effort. It’s a doddle. Also good if you’re a diy enthusiast. I have a wooden outdoor table and need to replace planks on top, about 2″ thick. This will trim the wood yard lengths to size in seconds. Very pleased and happy to recommend.
This arrived in a simple top opening branded brown box. Once opened the saw is in the middle protected with card, and the battery, battery charger base and power lead all in separate boxes. This also comes with a small bottle to store oil (oil not supplied), and an operating instruction manual.
Once I had unpacked everything I put the battery on charge and had a read through the manual. I thought the manual was good with numbered diagrams at the beginning linked to a component list along with good safety and operating instructions.
After the battery was indicating fully charged I checked the chain tension, and made sure it was correct adjusting the tensioning screw located at the front next to the blade with the driver supplied. I had some oil so filled the supplied bottle and oiled the chain, and was ready to fit the battery and try it out.
I had several off cuts of wood varying in thickness I thought would be ideal for a test. The saw isn’t too heavy and I would say around the same weight as a heavy duty drill, and fits quite comfortably in one hand with easy access to the lock-out button and power trigger. It made short work of the wood I tried without any struggling, and I did like how easy it was to remove the housing cover and chain after use for cleaning.
I tried the saw out in the garden on some small branches and in a friend’s garden for pruning a tree. I found it performed really well cutting through pieces around 80mm square but larger pieces and anything going beyond the length of the blade it did struggle although also completed the cut.
Overall in my opinion this is a really handy lightweight saw for quick tasks in the garden and pruning. I thought its best use was on branches around the thickness of a wrist which it made short work of. You do need to keep an eye on the tension and tighten it when needed and make sure the chain is oiled. Overall a handy lightweight tool I thought great for quick cutting jobs.
I found this mini chainsaw was easy to use and light to hold it cut through the branches of my magnolia and buddleia with ease so I am very impressed
A compact battery operated 4 inch chainsaw for pruning comes with one battery and a charger works okay on small branches that secateurs won’t cut quite noisy noisy but acceptable it’s expensive for what it is capable of doing disappointed that no gloves or goggles were included
Pruning in the garden can be quite difficult at times, things like pampas grass – which I have plenty of can be a pain to cut back come the winter months – however this handle powered chainsaw should help make light work of gardening.
The chainsaw comes acceptably packaged in a cardboard box, quite simple – within the box you will find instructions (ish – they’re not great), plug and charger, 1 x battery the chainsaw itself and a small bottle applicator (empty) to help with oiling the machine.
The battery requires a charge prior to first use, but this didn’t take long, approximately 1 and a bit hours in all – it likely had some charge already in it.
The battery then simple slots into the base of the chainsaw ready for use.
The weight of the chainsaw isn’t too bad I don’t imagine anyone having any issues in being able to hold this at all.
The operation of the chainsaw is also very straightforward – remove the safety cover, move the safety switch to the opposite side and press the trigger – away you go.
The device has managed some fairly robust branches on what I have tested it on so far, so I am confident that I can manage branches that are a few inches thick without too much issue.
I have not tested it on smaller pieces of wood – however if it can handle these types of branches, I don’t envisage too much effort being required.
Overall it is a tidy and neat little chainsaw and should make gardening a little bit easier – the only slight issue I have is that for only 20 minutes battery life – I’d like to have seen a 2nd battery included. I reckon to prune my garden I would need at least 2 charges – maybe even 3 so in all using this device would take me 60 mins total cutting time and then 2 x full charges – 3 hours – meaning a total time of 4 hours – which is likely to be longer than using normal hand sheers. But as it is, it is a decent chainsaw that I can recommend.
Great small chainsaw, ideal for smaller trees and thick shrubs. It has a rechargeable battery but there was enough charge when delivered for me to try it out. It is noisy to use but does the job and because it is light enough to use with one hand so that you can hold branches out of the way to get right up to the trunk. It comes with a cover for the chain when storing. Suitable for my fruit trees and magnolia that need an annual shaping.
I would have liked a second battery so that one could charge whilst the other is being used as it only claim 20 minutes of use on a charge. That could explain the reasonable price of 65.99 at the time of this review.
This is a handy little mini chainsaw, which is perfectly sized for cutting through smaller branches or tree sections.
This is really easy to use and comes with 1 battery and charger / charging plate.
The I struxtuons are quite poor, in my opinion. They’re very much pictures of things, which you have to decide on what they’re doing or not supposed to be doing in them. There are also directions written down later on, but it would have been better with proper instructions with diagrams mixed in.
I managed to figure it all out without the instructions, including how the chain replacement works.
Due to needing 2 hands to use, I couldn’t upload a video in use, but I’ve just tried on a few overhanging apple tree branches and this made light work of it. It’s also fairly quiet in use, although may be noisier on harder wood.
Overall, this is a really handy mini chainsaw that I have no concerns over recommending. There’s even a safety guard on the top, which could easily save a finger or worse.
First I like to mention that it comes completely put together, just need to pop the battery in and use it.
Cuts wood very well, so powerful.
It feels safe. I own one in different make, this one feels much more safer to use. Comfortable to hold.
Really well made with powerful battery.
Good value for money.
