Considering I was using my phone to draw before this, amazing, so glad I saved up for this makes so many things I’ve wanted to do for so long possible, very good quality, the screen is nice but don’t expect monitor quality screen, I usually drag the thing I’m drawing to my other monitor when I’m done to make sure the colours look good! Overall amazing, annoying I had to get a stand tho cause those little pegs on the back weren’t enough
Daughter wanted one and did a bit of research…the Cintig 16 came up as the best for beginners. She uses this every day to draw so I am happy with the purchase. They may be more expensive than I would like to spend but she wants to be an artist so I was happy to spend a bit more for probably the best none pro tablet on the market.
The screen never feels hot. Its nice.
The only downside is that the default wires are not long enough for my setup BUTT could easily just buy better wires for a fraction of the money you’re spending still spending more but ya know
OH and the stand that comes with the product was upside down. Had to rearrange it
Had to recalibrate the pen.
Ended up getting a Monitor Arm to replace the default mount. Realising the wiring does not look aesthetically pleasing as the wiring is far from the centre mounting area so its hard to hide the wires.
Love wacom
I’ve been using a surface pro for my art for a while, but decided to finally invest in a Wacom Cintiq. I am so happy I did. What an incredible piece of kit. An absolute game changer for my a
Having spent decades struggling to draw and paint in Photoshop with a mouse – It feels as though the blindfold’s come off now and I have broken free from the restraints. I’m fired up with the possibilities of what can be achieved with this piece of kit! It’s an affordable and versatile option for any designer or artist, whatever their level.
I am disappointed with the lack of accessories on this. It didn’t come with a screen protector nor any extra nibs(correction, 3 x nibs are in the pen holder, tug on the cotton loop sticking out from the side of your pad). And you have to buy the stand separately- it’s too expensive in my mind. So I didn’t get that, but I got a 9.99 alternative: JUMKEET Laptop Stand,Foldable Portable Ventilated Desktop Laptop Holder. It works really well! So I am quite happy with this over the much more expensive alternative.
My only concern is that the screen apparently doesn’t support felt nibs. Which is a bit… disappointing. I fear that unless this pen screen proves somehow to make up for this rather proportionate downside, I might not be buying Wacom in the future. We’ll see.
I wanted to buy the pro version, but it was around 3k at the time of writing this. Which seems rather… overpriced. I needed something relatively compact, So I can transport it between my offices without too much fuss.
It’s a good buy so far, and for what it is it’s a good price. Given it’s not a budget brand. I like that the horrible annoying buttons on the side of the screen are now gone!
The stand I bought also has a nice slot to put your pen on when you’re not using it. So in my opinion it’s far better than the one offered with the device for a fee of 70+.
I will probably add to this review once I have used it for the purposes of digital painting, and drawing technical diagrams when switching between work and personal machines.
Edit 28/03/2022: You can in fact use felt nibs on this version! Very happy, drawing is so much easier with felt nibs as the feedback makes adding details all the more easier. I think the device also helps to alleviate tremors? I don’t have the most steady hands, and I have noticed a VAST improvement in my ability to draw finer details without wobbly-ness since having used this upgraded version. My only gripe is the pro pen slim. But that’s for another review.
Obviously, this acts as a second monitor, so that has come in really helpful as well, for having multiple browser windows open without crowding the screen, etc. I wouldn’t recommend this for a beginner as this is a lot of money to spend on specialized equipment. If you’re just getting started with digital art, I’d recommend a far cheaper Wacom Intuos or a similar small non-display tablet; I remember getting one for something like 50.
As for pen accuracy, I’ve had no issues so far! Super responsive and no lag. Installation is so easy, just instal the appropriate driver from the Wacom website. The cables are easy, too, just plug in your HDMI, USB and power source. If you have an apple computer, note that you should buy a separate thunderbolt cable adapter if you don’t have one already so the HDMI can connect. I already had one so this wasn’t an issue. Overerall, well worth the price if digital art is something you wish to pursue 🙂
This is my first proper tablet and I have to admit I love it. There are alot of wires and I had to use a hdmi convertor for the Mac but those a little niggles. It’s a great tablet to start with very responsive and fun to use.
This is exactly what I wanted and it came early. I’m so happy with this because my older version of this (13hd) broke and I was panicking. This upgrade is super noticeable. It’s super easy to get it started just plug and some updates and ready to roll. If you need a tablet like this I totally recommend i
Flipping awesome!
Changed my life, no wrist pain anymore, easy to use, intuitive design, the best pen on the market which is far more important than most reviews make out. You will be holding and interacting with the pen the most so that has to be perfect…. and it is!
My only gripe is sometimes when switching screens I find the pen looses functionality on google chrome. but no other programs seem to suffer from this issue which is relatively easily rectified.
You will not look back once you get this or its bigger brother… with these screen tablets you really do get what you pay for them.
If you are serious about design or illustration you need a Wacom. Easy to set up on both windows and mac, currently using on a Mac Mini M1 and works perfectly. Using with both Illustrator and Photoshop makes working a million times easier than a mouse.
This is my first own Cintiq and I have to say it was worth the price. I’ve tried the old big models at work and those are great, this 16” has nothing to envy. The sensitivity is great, it feels comfortable for my type of drawing (I’m a traditional designer and didn’t buy the stand, just the small legs on the frame are more than enough for me), you can adjust the brightness of the screen, it has a very sharp image and performs nicely the task for what is made for. The only thing that it’s a little bit annoying (if you live in a small place and can’t leave it on a desk all the time) is the connection, it’s using a triple cable in one, the plug to the wall splits in three heads, one HDMI to the laptop, one USB to the laptop and the specific connector to the Cintiq itself. I believe the Pro version just comes with an easy thunderbolt, cleaner to prepare, but well, I’m happy with the product. The package came as you buy the Cintiq in a shop, I would have expected to be wrapped in a second “delivery” box for security because it’s a expensive item, just in case the heavy rains in UK, but anyway I had no issues, inside was all wrapped in protection. I’m still getting used to it but experience so far is positive.
I have not used this item as much as I planned to due to a busy year but so far I have liked what I have seen. It is very easy to setup and get started, it did not take me long at all. I purchased Leonardo as an art package as I do not have Photoshop and Leonardo was reasonably priced and had good reviews. So far it has not disappointed and works brilliantly with the Cintiq. I occasionally switch to paint.net which confusingly isnt a browser based package but sits on your desktop, this was free and again I highly recommend.
I also purchased the optional stand and a screen protector for the Cintiq, these are optional but I would say essential purchases, I dread to think the issues a scratch to the screen would create and the stand just makes it so much nicer to use, but be aware these will cost you quite a lot extra to buy unfortunately. The quality of the Cintiq is high, the pen is nice to use and hold and if you set up the Cintiq alongside a laptop or PC then you can easily change between screens and swap to the mouse when necessary. I have no regrets purchasing this and would definitely recommend to anyone similar to myself who is interested in digital art but doesnt want to spend an absolute fortune but likewise has the budget to go beyond the very basics.
Nice and easy to set up, plug and p;ay.
The software that comes bundled is downloaded from Wacom.com and is nice and easy to instal.
As a step up from the Intuos, it’s quite a big step. But its night and day better.
The drawing tablet is brilliant, really responsive and easy to use. I have been glued to this since it arrived! The on-screen controls are good for most part but there are no built in quick keys on the 16′ version so if you’re used to using a lot of keyboard shortcuts you will want to buy the Wacom remote too.
The only thing that shocked me was that it was delivered with no protective packaging….just in the manufacturers box with a special delivery sticker stuck to the front. I normally receive small inexpensive items from Amazon in a box 3 x it’s size with a tonne of scrunched up paper to protect it so I’m at a bit of a loss as to why such an expensive item arrived like this. There was some minor damage to the corners of the box but the tablet itself doesn’t seem to be damaged.
So far, I have enjoyed using this product. The build quality is good, screen has a really nice film that makes it feel like paper, color gamut is OK, Pro Pen 2 performs well in general. I didn’t notice any parallax either. The tablet is easy to connect to computer and can serve as a second screen if you need it. One thing – when working in Photoshop and using the pen, it can sometimes freeze the application for a couple of seconds. Pretty sure Wacom drivers are responsible for this, but it only happens on a rare occasion, so it’s fine.
Overall, a very good product for the price. I would recommend getting a stand as well.
This tablet is incredible. I honestly cannot recommend it more for artists. Practically no lag, and fantastic pressure sensitivity. This tablet is probably not for beginners, simply because of its price ands capabilities, but a beginner could absolutely still use it. If you are a beginner, I would suggest getting a smaller, cheaper tablet and then upgrading when you feel comfortable. For professional artists, there is no comparison. This tablet is a 10/10.
My only complaint is that I have no talent to use this device to it’s full potential
I was considering getting one of the Huion tablets but I feel more assured with this. I can’t explain it, but it FEELS like I won’t be changing it anytime soon.
If you’re looking to buy a relatively cheap Cinteq I advise you to also buy a stand that can hold it up. The little ‘arms’ that are supposed to do this do not and it easily falls flat. Loudly. It will give you neck ache to try using it flat.
The item arrived in good condition, though it did not have an external box! Luckily the manufacturers box sustained no injury, thus preserving its resale value.
The item itself is fairly easy to set up, though the process of getting it to sync adequately (with my computer) was slightly contentious initially, though now it takes hardly any effort.
In practice, there is a slight parallax between the pen and the glass medium display which causes some noticeable distance between the reception of the image on the digital screen. That said the distance between the pen and the digital image promises some longevity due to the glass recesses depth. This is an entirely new phenomenon as I have not digitally painted before.
That said the synchronisation with the software was unmentionably easy, though for people new to this medium there is a pronounced level of difficulty in learning and mastering the nuances of the software and its role in shaping images.
After setting it up and using the cables provided plus, in my case, a thunderbolt 2 cable to HDMI, it worked straight off the second time I turned it on. On my MacBook Air, I used system preferences, Display to use mirrored display to see a match on the pad and on the computer. Made it easier for me to get into it.
I use it with Photoshop. Nice clear colours. Also found it nice and clear with large print for writing emails too, something I had not expected. M only difficulty has been getting used to the new photoshop. There are other programs that are simpler and can be bought outright, but PS does a very sophisticated job. Very happy with this product and the support was excellent by chat, when a cable was not pushed in properly, even given lockdown! Very logical analysis and clear instructions.
Whilst I will update this review further down the line should any issues arise, the tablet has exceeded my expectations.
Drawing on the screens surface feels very smooth, the parallax is small and the pen this device comes with handles great.
This model is a bit expensive for beginners so I’d recommend a huion Q11 for those eager to move into digital Art.
[UPDATED 3 DEC 2020]:
I’m coming up to nearly a years use of this product and I’ve not got a bad thing to say about it. I wanted a reliable drawing tablet that just works, I don’t care for 4K resolutions or perfect adobe RGB, just a FHD product with little to no parallax and a smooth drawing experience.
So far I’ve not been disappointed. Very happy with this product, will update ina years time.
it is important to know that the tablet alone can’t do much, if one doesn’t know how to use drawing softwares like photoshop or sketchbook etc.
Also, this model needs to be connected to a computer, it works as a second screen you can draw onto.
This detail comes in handy, as for my kind of projects the wacom doesn’t only work as a drawing tablet but gives me the opportunity of a second screen, but some might prefer a drawing tablet that works without cables and computers
Amazing now to lean how to use it. one thing to note about this tablet ther are alot of wires so hard to keep neat unless you have a good amount of space.
Also if you from Ireland its 550 euro for a cintiq 13 so getting this for 500 and being a cintiq 16 is amazing value
ORIGINAL THOUGHTS: It took me a few years of wanting one of these and trying every cheaper alternative from the cheaper Wacom devices, simulating a cintiq with iPad apps like Astro and Duet as well as even buying a cheaper ‘cintiq’ style tablet a couple of years ago but nothing comes close to the real thing! This is gorgeous in every way and it works absolutely superbly with minimal set-up and with every app I’ve used it with since placing it on my desk. Thank you Wacom for making an affordable ‘entry level’ display tablet for use by people like me on a limited budget that actually does exactly what it says on the box. I absolutely love it. Nothing less than 5 stars across the board!
I have used an intous pro for around a year and before that an old wacom bamboo fun for about 4 years.
This thing is so amazing to draw on, there is a noticeable difference moving on to a screen tablet. It’s much faster to get your lines down, you can go over lines to make them thicker like lining on paper and you don’t have to zoom in and out as much. I can really get a sense that this is going to speed up my production of work over the next 3 years.
The lack of hotkeys is a bit of a blow but I have set the pen keys to be control – z and space (to move around when zoomed in) The pen is a bit scratchy at first, i thought i was damaging the screen (I wasn’t) but i think that was just the nib smoothing down to the way I use it. It sucks but I would recommend the stand as you are more than likely going to want to change positions when working for several hours.
Pros-
It’s wacom, they’ve always been reliable
The cost, yes it’s more than other brands such as huion but again…it’s wacom
The screen is large but not to the point of it taking over your desk
The Pen included is the same one as in the more expensive models
Cons-
No hot keys on the tablet itself
You’re probably going to need a stand
Unless you really need the 4k capability I would honestly recommend this to anyone in any field just down to the fact it is so rewarding and satisfying to use. Just proves I won’t go to anyone else by Wacom.
FOR LINUX USERS: I use mine with Ubuntu 18.04 instead of windows or OSX and I /CANNOT REGISTER IT FOR THE ONLINE WARRANTY/. That might be important for a few people. You have to register it through the official wacom desktop app that is not released on linux. I’ve had no running issues with it though and it was just plug and play with the updated wacom for linux drivers that are out there. I would also want to mention that without the app on windows/mac, because there are no hardware buttons on this Cintiq, you can’t change the screen brightness (and it seems quite dim by default). I have a quite dark work area so it’s fine for me but might be problematic for others. You might be able to connect it to a windows/mac platform and change the settings there and it might be persistent but I haven’t had a chance to test this out.
8/10
The pros:
Screen size – you definitely notice the size difference. I’m now happy with having Photoshop open with my canvas and a reference image side-by-side and not feel cramped.
Screen quality – it’s the same resolution as the 13HD, but the light is a lot better and you now have various settings for brightness and temperature
Cable management – the connector is stored safely in the back so now you have no issues knocking it out
Power button position – it’s on the front and easier to press, it’s minor but does make a difference
More levels of pressure – at first it was a bit weird to draw on this, as it took a lot of pressure to get to full opacity – but after tweaking the curve in settings I have found it to be very good. It makes drawing a lot more responsive and smoother with my old brushes.
Cons:
Colour range – working in grey you can see it veering towards green, whereas I felt the Cintiq 13HD was going more towards red… it’s not too bad, but I did read the range was less on this than the 13HD – maybe it’s just me though!
The built-in stand – love the design of the flip out feet, but it only provides one angle and if you’re painting for many hours it’s not great for your back or neck. I recommend the Wacom stand that you can buy separately – it is over priced, but definitely makes a difference and is better than the stand that came with the 13HD
No express keys – this is the one major fault, as I was so used to them on the 13HD. I am getting used to using keyboard shortcuts, but it’s still annoying. I might have to fork out for a remote, but that is super expensive!
Overall – I am very happy with this, if you’re coming from a graphics tablet like a Bamboo or Intuos then do it!! If you’re coming from a Cintiq 13HD then also do it!
