Got this to use in my PS5 to upgrade the storage and works perfectly
You have to buy the better SDD speeds for PS5 and this meets those requirements
Would def buy the next size up soo
Amazon posted this item real quick and was with me within a day. Real fast delivery and also cheaper then original price as it was on offer for black Friday deals.
Really really happy with the item.
Used this for my new pc, windows and games have installed fine and I haven’t ran into any issues, nice and fast as well
Used to expand the storage on my PlayStation 5, followed the instructions on the PlayStation YouTube channel which was simple enough. Set it up to install any new games to it, works perfectly and actually loads slightly faster than the built in SSD.
Good quality ssd with a good Heatsink. Easy to install into ps5 and works great storing all your PS5 games and playing them from the WD drive, doesn’t quite have the read and write speeds that other brands have such as the Seagate FireCuda but still more than enough for ps5 and at a great price.
The WD black runs hotter than other brands but still well within safe temps just an observation. Overall you can’t go wrong with this drive it’s reliable and works faultlessly.
Popping the cover off the ps is easy if you follow playstations own tutorial on youtube, then inserting the m2 and installing it on the console couldn’t be easier! Remember to use the washer with the screw that holds the m2 in place and bobs your uncle. Took me 5 minutes to set up and now I have triple the space! Happy days!
We bought this as a gift for our son as he was running of of space on his PS 5.
I found a site on the web that explained how to install the extra drive and fitting it was relatively easy.
It appeared on the menu and was soon formatted and drive write speed tests showed it was very fast.
“Does what us says on the tin” as they say.
So far everything has been super reliable with a PC I upgraded recently – replacing the motherboard, CPU, RAM and storage. Previously I had a 2TB HDD, and I upgraded to a this Western Digital M2 SSD. The difference in performance is startling.
File access is instantaneous and transfer times are super fast even compared to other SSDs. It means for me the PC boots in seconds and even games with large game files load in 1/4 the time they previous would. I still have a little SSD anxiety but so far the experience has been positive and for that I’m happy.
I took the plunge to buy additional storage for my PS5 as I was struggling with internal console storage.
It was really easy to install, the hardest part was taking the PS5 cover off.
The MD storage has been great and you can choose where to store and download games.
It is quite a lot of money for a luxury, however it is worth it. Hopefully it will go down in the sales.
Anything under 100 for 1TB and you should grab it!
Western Digital M.2 (black) ssd drive has an incredible read/write performance and no doubt would be very good for gaming however I can’t rate it for that as am not interested in gaming. My main reason for installing this drive is for the increased performance it gives to my computer and it has made a marked difference. I would recommend these WD Black drives if you are wanting a general boost in performance.
This NVMe SSD is a very affordable, powerful device for Gaming! I purchased this because of my outdated hard drives. I’ve noticed massive performance increases in intensive games. Windows runs so much faster and the 7GB/s read and write is an amazing feature for the price.
I bought the 1TB one and it’s simply plug and play (and add the screw in to secure it). No drivers needed! Unless you want to change the RGB light on the drive, which I have done and attached to Razer Chroma!
Inevitably the storage was running out on my PS5, and I was using an old 2TB external harddrive for my PS4 games. This started slowing down and sometimes failing (resulting in it being repaired a couple of times), I saw that this M2 SSD was reduced, so took the plunge.
Very happy that I did, the installation was a breeze. Loads of youtube videos to help if you’re unsure. Once installed, the PS5 recognised it straight away and formatted it to work.
Up and running within 10 minutes from start to finish! So now have more space for PS5 games!
An expensive purchase that is almost required to get the most out of my ps5, so I opted for the 2tb but was close to considering the 1tb. I questioned the longevity of the storage solutions regarding file sizes of the games and concluded that I needed to purchase the 2 tb instead regarding the fact that I had six games installed and with only 85 gb left. The WD sn850 will be the most important investment I would recommend you make in reliability of storage for your new ps5 as who knows how big game files sizes could become in future updates?, so far a reliable option and peace of mind for the future of next gen gaming. 5/5 .
he drive itself is excellent, fast read speeds and easy to install especially in a ps5 console. installed it in minutes and was up and running. the loading of games is lightning fast and the good thing is also you buy a 1TB you actually get the full 1TB no 950GB etc like some other drives. cant fault it so if you need one esp at the low price then at least for console this is a must.
However… just make sure Amazon havent sent you a USED one after buying it brand new, mine arrived with the seal broken, the drive also had data on it as when checked wasnt comepletely empty to which i formatted it and compalained and had a new one sent. also no fixing screw is provided by WD so youll need to obtain one. Amazon did correct the error and sent a new one but this shouldnt happen esp with hard drives…but BUY IT ITS EXCELLENT
I got 2 of the 2TB SN850 to put into a RAID0 Array on my new Asus ROG Zephyrus G15. They have worked perfectly and giving the expected speeds. In RAID0 I am getting 13300+ reads and 9800-10100 writes. Heat so far has not been an issue and they are without the heatsinks. But I might get a 2mm heatsink just to try make sure it does not become one in the future.
I bought this SSD 2Tb M.2 Storage Device to Upgrade My PlayStation 5 & Give Mr Sime Much Needed Extra Storage Capacity From The 825Gb that Comes Standard with the Retail Digital & Disc Machines. After Attaching The SSD Card to A Heatsink Enclosure This Was A Very Simple Device To Install into My PlayStation System A Matter of Minutes. The SSD Card Has Made Such A Difference to My PS5 Loads of Storage Soace, Incredible Speed With Hardly Any Loading Time, And I Also Feel The Graphics on Screen Look Cleaner, Sharper More Vivid & Super Smooth Using The Full Spectrum of The Ultra High Definition 4K TV Features & Settings Available for Both My TV & PlayStation 5.
Recommended Buy, Great Price, Really Good Value. 10/10 5Stars
It’s fair to say if you require extra storage for the PlayStation 5 then you can’t go wrong with this SSD. It’s very easy to install and as soon as you turn the console on there’s a prompt on screen to format it then your good to go. Easy as that. I’ve had mine in the PS5 for around a couple of months with zero issues and transferring game data from the internal storage to this is a breeze. The only negative is the high price point but if you can get it cheaper then go for it.
Admittedly, this drive is currently installed into a Gen3 motherboard, so I can’t make use of its promised speeds, but I knew this going into the purchase; I purchased this to replace an old SATA SSD that died suddenly, with the plan to transfer it to a new PC when I build one in a few months time.
Knowing that my speeds are limited, I didn’t have huge expectations right off the bat, but I was pleasantly surprised. Compared to my old SSD, this thing is lightning fast, in both gaming and programming tasks.
I have used this extensively with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and 7 Days to Die, as well as Hyper-V virtual machines (one of which I use daily as a dev environment). It’s easy to forget I’m in a VM, because the load/read speeds are no different at all to the host machine (at least not visibly, I’m sure benchmarks will show differently).
All in all, definitely worth the money.
I guess my question is.why? Why are we forced to buy these products? For the price tag of the PlayStation 5, coming pre-loaded with 825gb, a quarter of which is taken up by the actual system files, why was it not given at least 1TB+?
The WD Black SN850 is a pricey but necessary bit of kit that has finally opened up my console (both literally and figuratively) and future proofed it for the foreseeable future with the PS4 line gradually coming to a close with the focus on games being made exclusively for PS5. I chose the 2TB option to be safe and it’s absolutely worth every penny. The read speed is beyond anything I’ve ever encountered, easy and lightning fast to transfer big games like Call of Duty, The Last of Us etc.
Cannot recommend this drive enough, absolutely the way to go and the heat sink option is gonna save you having to shop around the market. Western Digital have absolutely outdone themselves and actually put PlayStation themselves to shame.
I bought this to increase the storage on my son’s ps5. It was easy to install (plenty of videos online demonstrating. Once the hardware is fitted just follow the instructions prompted on the ps5. We moved games over to this new drive from the old, transferring was almost instant and then no difference in loading time. When the time comes and we fill this one we won’t hesitate to het the 2tb version. Great product. I recommend getting the version with heat sink included for a hassle free instillation.
This 1TB SSD is a great addition to my PS5. I simply followed the instructions on the PlayStation site and it was very straightforward. It comes with the heat sink pre-installed so all you need to do is turn your PS5 upside down, remove white cover, remove expansion cover. Remove screw and nut from top, place nut in next hole down. Slot drive in at an angle, then place it flat and screw it in. Replace expansion cover. Replace white cover.
Connect all leads and power on and you’ll be prompted to format your new SSD and even decide if you want that to be the new default storage device – handy if you’ve already filled up the console storage. And that’s it. Job done. Highly recommend this drive. I’m running Horizon Forbidden West on it and it’s super quick.
Decided to pick up the 2TB SSD with heatsink as it was half price and I desperately needed to expand the minuscule 667GB of usable storage that the PS5 provides. Quite frankly, 250 for what you get is a bargain and I wasn’t going to miss out on it.
Installation was smooth, even though I initially feared that I’d break the PS5’s cover trying to remove it it comes off relatively easily. Simply take the screws out once the cover is off, move the spacer down a step, plug in the SSD, screw everything back in and put the cover back on. Nothing too complex by any stretch of the imagination.
One I powered my PS5 back on, I formatted the drive and proceeded to move some games from my PS5’s SSD to the expansion SSD. 330GB, as seen in the image attached. This all moved across in a whopping 7 minutes!
I’ve tested a couple of PS5 games on this drive and they all play identically as they would on the PS5’s SSD. If there is any difference, I either can’t see it or it’s incredibly insignificant.
Zero complaints from me. Absolutely essential purchase for any PS5 owner.
Yeah whilst 6770MBps is super fast there is a law of diminishing returns once you go above 500MBps in terms of what’s really noticeable. However, in my new PCIe-4 Framework laptop this is a super slick option.
Not had any heat issues (though I did stick a 1mm thermal pad on it to mate with the underside of the laptop’s aluminium top plate). Hangs around 40 degrees or so.
The thing is it’s so fast that I have switched off hibernation. I am of the generation that remembers the days of 2 hours from a new laptop if you were lucky and so the laptop is on when I need it and switched off when I don’t. The drive is so fast and responsive, even with Fast Start switched off (never liked that feature) it still is back to the desktop in like 12 to 15 seconds from cold.
Quick to install, 10 mins tips including finding screwdriver unplugging and watching official sony install video, although struggled first attempt to take ps5 side panel off as a knackered to it as I did not want to break. I got 1tb drive with heating. Quick to move files across 254 gb tabard from intensive to this drive took 3 – 4 mins. Loaded up ff7 remake on it and it loaded instantly with no wait and only maybe 1 – seconds to get in hand from main game menu. Although to be honest I cannot recall how fast it was on internal as Neen a while since played so may not be any faster than it was but my test was just to see if works and not speed. 🙂
Really easy to install just watch some vids on YouTube and away you go. Once formatted (done through on screen prompts after powering the PS5 back up) you select what system you would like this upgrade to be used for. You can’t do both at the same time, you choose either PS4 or PS5 games and the data with be stored on this. So if you have pure PS5 games then allocate this to PS5 if you play both (PS4/PS5 games) then decide which would be more beneficial to you and choose that option. This is not an external drive so doesn’t function as an external drive would, you can’t remove it and give it to your friend and let them play your games whilst you go on holiday, once removed and placed into another ps5 it will need formatting before it can be used again therefore wiping the previously stored data.
On the whole I’m happy with it, it works and does what I wanted it too.
Brought this for my PS5 as was sick of moving games around from my external to internal ssd. Took 30 mins tops to install was really easy after watching playstations video. Brought without the heatsink as I purchased the Sabrent M.2 NVMe PS5 heatsink along side it which replaces the metal cover already fitted on the PS5. The first box arrived with no ssd inside someone at the warehouse had opened it and stolen the card from inside but amazon were great and sent me out one the next day with the actual card inside.
Have had no problems so far moved all my games from my external ssd and the playstaions ssd onto the wd one, which took less than 15 mins for just under 2 TB of data. All my games ps4 and ps5 are running off the WD ssd with no problems at all and with no speed loss. Now I have 2.8TB of super fast memory for 200. Which is the same price as a 1TB expansion card for my Series X.
Would highly recommend this ssd along side the Sabrent M.2 NVMe PS5 heatsink. 5 stars easy.
Picked this up to go with QIVYNSRY M2 heatsink nvme 2280. I managed to pick up cheaper without a heat sink and who knows when heat sink version will be in stock. Im not into modding, or technical stuff, but it was pretty simple to attach the heatsink. The sizing of this particular heatsink is a tiny bit off – a little too big, so you need to make sure you position the surplus to the screw in end, so you’re not covering up the connection point. One minor thing to note for anyone installing – when you plug the SSD into the ps5, it sits at an angle. You need to remove the little nut screw from the ps5 and sit the SsD on it before screwing. It’ll make sense when you do it, just saying not to panic. Oh yeah, everything fit, closed, and seems to be working fine, so no issues here. You won’t regret having the extra space on your ps5. This drive is seamless.
I doubt this beats my firecuda in the speed tests, but in the price bracket not a bad 2tb drive by any means.
Transfer speeds just under the ones specified on the specs sheet so really good.
I think my firecuda would be wasted in the ps5 for the money, but equally this isn’t that much cheaper and its hard to justify this nvme over the segate.
Great drive more than fast enough and works perfectly, I only use this for ps4 content on the ps5 and apps, just to reduce the internal storage usage.
Great drive but if you can afford the firecuda over this then I would get the segate over the WD any day, more of a personal preference in terms of quality for me.
Either nvme is a great choice, if you’re using this for a boot drive on a PC then get the segate, if it’s for a ps5 then I’d lean towards the WD purely for cost to performance ratio.
If you find that your ps5 is running low on memory which you will, then this m.2 ssd is for you, well your ps5 actually. Takes roughly 5 minutes to install, it’s a bit fiddly trying to remove the template of the ps5 as you can’t help but feel apprehensive at doing this especially as it’s not a cheap gaming unit, so for me that actually took the longest time, but once off it’s quick – just be careful not to drop the black screws in the fan as it’s right next to where you will be removing the metal plate the the inner screw with the little ring, be sure to put on the 2nd hole from the top, then angle the drive in, screw back in place and put the metal cover back also. And as you have the cover off this is a good time to blow out the fluff on the fan, as I had a little gathering up there – just a tip. Not bad for a year to have very little fluff on the outer fan. So once all back together it’s the case screwing the base back on how you had it and powering up, message pops up m.2 ssd format – yes, so you have the storage off the ps5 and this, so theoretically you get 1tb, well just bit less as the ps5 storage has the 512 kept aside. However if like me I have wd 1tb passport connected to us usb which use for the PS4 games and the main ps5 and m.2 ssd solely for ps5 content only. And another point, it’s quick at loading the game up as no lagging.
So I hop this helps you guys. Is issues ask a question and I’ll try to help.
