Excellent product. Reasons: extremely safe, the child has an unobstructed view looking forward, the child can lean on the front table if tired and asleep, the driver has eyes on the child at all times. The product has been suggested to me and I strongly suggest it forward. Great job to the manufacturer!
I would recommend this seat our grandson looks very safe and it is nice he can look around and see what is in front of him. down side does take a little while to change over to other bikes
It’s a great product but I would say it is short lived. The age and weight range means you will only get about 1 season out of it. Our son is nearly 2 and is already close to the weight limit of 15kg He’s tall but not fat.
Ok, so our WeeRide arrived today.
My first impression was that it wouldn’t fit my bike. The video in the advert, showing the top bar adapter is very misleading – the item DOES NOT come with that adapter, in fact, you can’t even purchase that item in the UK as it is out of stock.
So, after the fact I discovered my seat didn’t come with the adapter, I really thought it wouldn’t fit my bike.
I contacated Mat at WeeRide and
, oh my, was he helpful. He was superb and he helped me understand that the seat fit my bike after all, without the need for any adapters. So, please do contact them if you are having problems. Mat got back to me within a couple of hours – I went straight to their website.
Ok, so no… it’s not a 10 minute installation. It was my first time installing it and it took me about 45 minutes – I suppose it can take 10 minutes if you know exactly what you are doing and have done it a couple of times before… but I don’t see how someone doing it for the very first time can do it in 10 minutes. This however was not a problem for me.
I think it’s best to do a pro and con list:
Pros:
– baby loves it
– it feels safe to ride with baby on it
– you can remove the seat easily if you don’t want to ride with your child
– excellent customer care
– fast delivery
Cons:
– it takes some time to figure out the installation when you are doing it for the first time
– I don’t like that the seat’s main way of attaching to the support is just by a small screw – the base is so sturdy, however the seat is attached to the base by a small screw. There is a secondary, flexible attachment that goes round the top tube for ezrra safety.
– seatbelts do come down child’s arms, as per many other reviews – this however does not bother me, as the child is well strapped in below
– it’s heavy – the seat itself isn’t, but the base will add a considerable amount of weight to the bike.
Remember you can always contact WeeRide before you purchase and they will check your bike for you (if you send them a few picture) and they will tell you if it fits, or if you need anything else. Don’t get frustrated during the setting up process, Mat an help you and answer your questions.
This is not perfect product, but I am very happy with it and I think that my baby and I are going to have some wonderful bike trips using the seat.
My baby is 14 months. I recommend it.
I shall be updating this review after I have used it more consistently.
Easy to install on my mountain bike. Feels very secure. Balancing the bike is easy as the weight of the child is centred. The child hand hold is a great feature. My son is happy to look and point at dogs, cars, trees, birds, or anything else that catches his eye and facing forwards means you can have a conversation and see what he sees and they see what you see. I thought the seat would potentially get in the way of my legs and chest while cycling, but this is not the case.
It is an excellent product. My 2.5 years old daughter enjoys riding our bike and front position is ideal for her. I can’t imagine having that little rascal behind my back without control :). Now she asks for bike rides every day so thanks to that I have some more exercise. I must admit she is quite big for her age and were afraid if the size will be good but there is nothing to worry about. She fits comfortably and there is still a lot of room for her to grow 🙂
Customer service is also second to none. After a sit arrival, I checked the frame without fully unpacking it and was afraid that it will not fit my Carrera Crossfire 3 bike. It looked like there is no enough room to mount the front bracket. I ordered an extra-sized clip but Mat from customer service advised me to send some pictures and advised it will work. He was right and saved me some money for an unnecessary bracket. So world of advice, when checking if it fits your bike unpack and open a bracket. The most likely answer is that it will fit but in case of any concern do not hesitate to contact their excellent customer support team.

Really great product. Only con is the stem is heavy steel and you’ll probably leave it on because it’s a hassle to remove, but the seat comes off the stem easily to go on the car bike rack, so that’s fine. This is so much better than those trailers because you can talk to your kid and they aren’t being ignored. Everyone wants to know what brand it is and where to buy it. 12 month old loves it and we lend it to our childminder too. The armrest presumably is there really as a crash protection.
Kid loves it and the rides are very enjoyable.
No real problem with the position of the seat, not hindering my moves while pedaling.
The installation of the rigid horizontal bar was not that easy, but once fixed it does look stable and reassuring. The seat can be easily removed from the bar when needed, but taking the bar off and then back on… no, thank you!
All in all a good buy. Recommended!
Bit of a faff putting it on (lots of bolts and nuts) and make sure you don’t need to adjust your seat height again as once the bar is clamped on that’s it. The fixing of the chair to the bar is just with one fidddly bolt and washer but the ride is very good for my little ‘ne and he enjoyed it looking around and pointing things out. Hopefully a lot more to come! I bought a cheap mirror so I can see his face and emotions. I came to a view that a front seat would be better than a rear seat, and the riding position is not a problem with them effectively between your legs.
Pros: After nearly two years of daily use, this bike seat is still in good condition. Bought it when my little one was 13 months, now he is nearly 3yrs (14.5kg, 92cm) and he still absolutely loves this seat. You can interact during your commute which makes it more enjoyable for everyone. Installation is very simple and even though the seat is only fixed with one screw to the crossbar, the entire thing appears to be quite sturdy.
Cons: During bad weather, your child will be more exposed to wind, rain and snow. However, this might only be problematic for small children. After getting used to it, my son is thrilled when it rains (a little). The crossbar is also quite heavy, however, since it’s centred between your arms, you don’t really feel it (unless you want to get up a hill). If you don’t fasten the straps properly they might slip over the shoulder of your child. But once set up this was working 99% of the time and since he is sitting right in front of you, you will always see when it is getting loose. Our bike is parked outside and even though the crossbar still looks good, the clamps became rusty over time, which is mainly a cosmetic issue.
All in all, a great bike seat with good price. Would definitely recommend!
Excellent seat, slightly fiddly to fit but once on my little boy 2.5 years loves it, “Daddy bike daddy bike” all the time. Its sturdy and really easy to ride, to be honest its not alot different than riding it without him on it, a little heavier, but then thats ok as it’ll give me a little work out. I had a problem with it initially, but that was just my misunderstanding of the instructions, so I phoned there help desk and later that evening I had a text! yes a text from the owner of the company (Matt) what more can I say. Perfect item, dont mess about with any other bike, period!
Just what we wanted. Places my daughter in a really nice position, akin to cuddling her with my arms either side. Gives me a sense of security and I think it does the same for her. Not at all disconnected like have her behind me.
We can talk clearly and point things out. Didn’t know what to expect as far as stability went, but I (35yr old man) felt little difference with her aboard even at slow speeds. Just make sure you can touch the floor easily while on the saddle when coming to a stop, because there is now no room to slide off saddle forward onto crossbar when you slow, like I used to.
Definitely a great product, but could be made that little bit better with a few minor tweaks.
The screw to hold the seat to the mounting bracket is a touch too long, it bottomed out on my mountain bike frame when installed as low down as I could.
The rear shoulder strap would be better if there was some sort of retaining system to hold it in the correct place, as it is now with the loops being free moving, the ability of it to perform its intended function is reduced on smaller children and makes it just that little bit annoying to strap them into.
Those 2 minor gripes aside – my 16 month old loves riding in it and is always trying to tell me she wants to go for a ride. She will pick up my helmet and give it to me, then she tries to put her own helmet on.
From a riders point of view, it takes a little getting used to. You have to (well, at least I did) modify your riding style.
Things like going up gutters require a lot more thought and if you are used to riding with toe clips on, a few things you may normally do instinctively become a little awkward.
For eg, stopping at a set of traffic lights, without the seat attached I would leave one foot in the clips and stand with my body in front of the riders saddle, on my bike, there isn’t really enough room to comfortably do this with the child seat attached.
Like wise getting going from a standstill requires a change in normal technique.
I’m just on 6ft tall and the inside of my knees brush the sides of the seat while pedalling. I need to ride with a slight outward bow of my legs.
I had to raise the feet cups up to about half way up their adjustment range, in order to get them to clear the tops of my front suspension forks. This isn’t an issue for my child at the moment (16mo), but I wonder how comfortable it may be for her when she is older/taller.
Certainly no deal breakers here – just some things you may need to think about when buying, or when you first get on and go for a ride.
This is a robust seat with dual mounting on the seat and steering posts, so it’s very solid for the child. It also holds a bit more weight than a cantilevered front seat. It has a five point harness and a retaining Velcro strap too, and a front pad for leaning or napping.
The downsides are not major, but they niggle. On our bike, the front pad restricts the steering a bit. Not majorly, but enough to widen its turning circle. The harness straps are a bit fiddly to adjust and we find we really need the chest retaining strap as otherwise they slip down the child’s shoulders, despite being tightly adjusted.
Lastly, this effectively turns the bike into a crossbar model, so if you need a step-through to mount the cycle, consider this model carefully for suitability. We’d planned to take a second rear seat on the back, but dis/mounting the cycle is very hard and unstable with both seats when you’ve lost the step through space.
As a single seat though, it’s very good; stable, great balance and centre of gravity, good chats with your child and it will last them up to the age of four.
My husband and I wanted to take our 9 month old out with us but we weren’t keen on the old fashioned bike seats that fitted on the back. We found the WeeRide online and the reviews were pretty good so we went ahead and bought it. I’d already paid Halfords a visit and was very disappointed in the quality of some of their bike seats for the same sort of money so we were a bit apprehensive as to what we’d end up with. It was ordered at 5pm one night and it arrived 39 hours later. We were very pleasantly surprised! It is a good quality, lightweight seat. The plastic is thin but if it wasn’t it would be too heavy to use. The cushion at the front is a great addition. Yes, it’s basic but it doesn’t have to be made of cashmere and with gold seams! It does exactly what it says it will! It’s easy to fit and it has a lot of adjustment options. My husband (who’s 6’3”) has no problems pedalling. Most importantly, our little boy loves it! We’ve used it 6 times and he now squeals with excitement when he sees it! I’ve already recommended it to a few friends. Definitely the best purchase of the year!
Personally I feel this is the best way to transport small children on bikes.
With rear mounted systems the child does not get much of a view and can “lollop” around as you turn (especially when asleep). When they are between your arms they get a better view, you get a better view of them, and they wobble around less.
I also prefer the weight distribution of having them centrally and attached near to the top tube. I have tried seats where they sit at the back, and find this really upsets the balance of the bike. It is probably not an issue if cycling on roads, but I found it a problem when riding on a disused railway line (with a compacted gravel not tarmac surface). For me the balance of the bike is key to safety, and so this is an important point.
Finally I was a little worried about how it would mount to a carbon fibre seat post, just because carbon fibre does not have massive strength when compressed. I have had no issues.
Good
– Much easier to ride than my old rear seat, centre of gravity is much improved
– I can chat with my kids on this which is great for them compared to being behind me
– Decent enough build quality
– I take it on and off every day, easy thumb screw
Bad
– The big negative for me is not being able to jump forward on my bike to stand, this means I either need a curb for my foot whilst my bum stays on the seat or I dismount off the back. This makes traffic lights difficult. It may be just my bike or me being a big unit but I can’t see how this isn’t the norm for most bikes. There is an alternative seat I’ve seen which sits much further forward
– My daughter is probably now too big at 3y6m, the feet don’t fit without a squash and there is no chance of getting the straps on, we still use it however as it’s much better for me than the alternatives and despite her being a bit big for it I still think its safer than alternatives
– Confusing max weight, box, website and instruction manual all have a different instructions
I wanted a bike seat for my son that meant I could see him whilst ridding.
This crossbar mounted seat is brilliant, you naturally surround them with your arms which feels very safe and lets you see what your child is doing at all times. The platform at the front means that they can fall asleep and remain safe. I really like that the position of the seat eliminates the risk of kicking your child off the back when you mount up.
It also means that the center of gravity of the bike and passengers is controlled by the adult which gives you lots of confidence to explore off road.
The fitting bar means that it fits on almost any frame style, and makes the seat really easy to remove, should you want to venture out on your own.
The best thing is that you can enjoy the ride with the child in front and not obstruct their view but share in it – look Daddy a horse!!
Recently bought one of these.. And it’s fantastic. we can all go out on family rides together. The seat does look small but my 19 month old doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. he loves the fact he can see everything (he wouldn’t be happy on a rear fitting seat looking at my back) only gave it 4 stars as the Alan key bolts that came with it didn’t fit the Alan key so was a pain to put on.. would definitely recommend it all the same.. here’s to happy riding.
My daughter and I go out all the time on my bike now. She loves this seat. As other reviewers have mentioned, it does cause you to stick your knees out a little bit, but I’m only 5ft 3″ so its not really a problem. My only criticism is the straps. My daughter is quite small for her age and even with the straps adjusted to the smallest they’ll go they’re still hanging off her. I’ve had to loop them around and back on themselves in order to keep her secure. I am happy that she’s perfectly safe but I’m surprised they’ve not allowed for different body sizes where the straps are concerned. The feet troughs adjust to accommodate a really small child but the straps don’t.
Easy to fit although it would have been nicer to have replacement longer bolts for all 4 fixings (not just the extra 2-off supplied) as my seat tube is oversized as well. The Allen key supplied is as much use as a chocolate teapot, made from a cheap and nasty soft material, fortunately it chews rather than the bolts. Hopefully the bolts are made from A4 grade stainless steel and not A2 so wont corrode over time, we’ll see. The harness is a bit of a faff but I’ll adjust that to see if it makes it easier.
I have bought some rubbish in my time but I am pleased to say that this item is not one of those times. I bought this seat over other traditional rear of bike seats as I have a full suspension bike and my frame would not accept most other types of seat, I also liked the idea that my body would act as protection should an accident occur. I was instantly please the moment I took the item out of the box, build quality is ace and I found it really easy to install. Within 20 minutes I was riding down the street with my son safely strapped in. I had no issues with the riding position, I am bow legged so my natural riding position is perfect for this product. The front plate is also a great feature, it acts as protection and also keeps prying hands away from the handle bars. So why only 4 stars I hear you say. I have knocked a star of because my product did not come with any foot straps. I don’t think this was all that clearly marked in the product description. All marketing pictures show straps and I believe they should come as standard. I purchased the classic version, I believe all other versions come with the straps provided so watch out for this. I am sure I should be able to buy them as an extra but am a bit disappointed.
Little boy loves this. I love that he can see in front when cycling and not be stuck staring at my back. It is a bit awkward to cycle with this between your knees though, you have to stick your knees out. For a gentle cycle on the flat it’s fine, if you were doing more cycling or on rougher terrain it may be tricky. Wee ones helmet would be pushing against my chest if he say right back. So a bit awkward (esp when he decided it was funny to hit my knee when it came up, slightly off putting, haha) but I still liked that he was in front n he enjoyed his cycle time. The pad in front is great, gives him something to hold and has come in handy for him to rest his head and snooze on.
A bit small made though. At 1 and a half my boy (he is very big for his age, maybe around 2yr old size) was pushing the limit for being able to use it. So I doubt it’ll be able to be used by next summer.
This is a simple and well designed product. It is relatively easy to install but you still need to read the instructions carefully and not jump to conclusions about how it goes together.
I have had a rear mounted child seat before which was ok but the child – my eldest daughter was unable to see anything and unable to talk to me without shouting. Also as she was sitting behind me I couldn’t check she was ok.
With this front mounted seat my youngest daughter can see everything I can see and can point things out, talk to me and I can talk to her, hug her and sing along with her (despite her lack of initial confidence about using the seat as soon as she was safely installed and underway she burst into song…!)
I would recommend this product if you are a confident cyclist and are not too short in the leg (the bar supporting the seat restricts your movement forward off the saddle if you need to stop and can’t reach the ground while sitting on the saddle. You will probably start to look for more off-road cycle routes so you can enjoy cycling without having to second guess what car drivers are going to do next!
One other point – the seat assembly includes a small ‘dashboard’ for the child to rest their hands on. Remember to ask them to use it from the first time you use the seat as otherwise they might (like my daughter) be holding on to the handlebars with you!
My daughter and I are looking forward to many more miles of happy cycling with our WeeRide seat.
I was dubious about spending the money on this but l had seen it in person at my childs nursery and thought l would take a punt. lt seems a bit small on arrival, the middle bar is a bit awkward to fit, but once on wont move. When l put my daughter in the seat she loved that she could ride daddys bike like daddy, but the best thing for me was that l could put my arms around her while we were on the road. Now you may wonder what that saucer thing is at the front…it is genuinely there for your child to fall asleep…mine has done several times. l would without doubt encourage people looking at a seat for your child to invest in this seat. Cannot praise the enjoyment the children get from it and the reassurance you get as a parent.
I was looking for a child bike seat that is at the front as I didnt like the idea of having my 21 months old child behind me and not be able to see her.
It arrived within 48hours, took us about 1 hour to put together, but if I had to do it again it would take less than 15 minutes.
What I like is that you can take the seat off and just leave the bar and if you need the seat just screw it back in few seconds.
At first the seat looked really small, but after trying it I realised it was the right size for cycling, anything bigger would get in my way.
My daughter loves it! She can see things and can talk to me and I know she is safe as I can see her and talk to her.
I find this bike seat suitable for the purpose I bought it – taking my child to nursery, shopping and for short rides.
I would recommend this child bike seat.
A colleague of mine suggested that I should buy the wee ride and I followed his advice, and to be honest I am pretty satisfied with the product. The build quality of the product is very good, and it really fits snugly on the bicycle. Apart from that my son really loves to stay in the seat and enjoys the rides a lot. The only difficulty I had is that the belt do not keep a small framed child very tight therefore I had to improvise a way how to make them tighter. The other thing that I had to change is the handle bar of the bicycle, so that it is closer to me because I am pretty short and I was struggling to reach the handle bar. Apart from that I have no complaints at all about this great produc
My youngster detests anything on his head, so we thought that we might have a hard time when it came to cycling. However, he simply loves this seat and consequently his helmet. The key aspects are the forward position, allowing interaction with the rider and “control” of the handlebars. The fixings are simply and secure.
There are a couple of downsides: The seat does get in the way slightly when cycling and a rather bow legged approach is required. Secondly, we started using the seat when my son was about 14 months and the foot rests were already extended as far as they would go. At 18 months he regularly hangs his feet over the edge which is not ideal, albeit not unsafe. I cannot see the seat lasting until he is 4 though – I think we will be lucky if we anywhere close to 3 years old.
This child seat is simple to fit, solid, secure, beautifully designed, strong and lightweight. The fixing bracket is bomb-proof and simple to fix; once fitted, you need not worry about any movement – it’s there for good.
But what I like about it more than anything else is that it is a joy to use. My 2-year-old daughter squeals with excitement when I suggest we go for a ride – “Bike! Bike!” – and absolutely loves it from beginning to end. I am sickeningly smug about not driving the 3 miles into town now and the enchanted pointing and cooing and smiles from from young and old alike as we glide gracefully by just makes me want to smile back. It really is a purchase that sows happiness – and this from a normally curmudgeonly old so and so.
If you are in any doubt about a central bike seat for a child, lay your fears to rest and buy one of these. I personally emailed the owner of the company to ask whether it would fit my 20-year-old Kona Fire Mountain and got an email back a few hrs later, late evening on a weekend answering my question directly and politely (it fits 99% of bikes). Stacks more info and pics on the Weeride official website.
If this is the state of British manufacturing, design and service today, we are in a very good place.

Update, Oct 2014
5 months on and hours of happy cycling behind us. A ride into the ‘countryside’ (her favourite new word) is now a hotly anticipated weekly event for LO; last Saturday went 11 miles up and down so I am fitter (although I do make her walk the steep bits). True, the riding position is slightly awkward with knees slightly akimbo but I guess the cruciates are strengthened. My chin knocks the top of her helmet sometimes but she helpfully leans forward. These are slight inconveniences and are far outweighed by the stability, feeling of safety and ease of use, and the closeness of my child to me. Still highly recommended; it’s the best child bike seat out there by a country mile.
An excellent bit of kit. I have a couple of problems though. The first is my son is a tall two and half year old (I bought this after reading reviews of other parents with tall kids) whilst he can get into the chair he doesn’t look comfortable at all as his knees are up by his ribs and that was at the lowest level on the foot rest.so maybe a couple of inches longer would be great if making a new model. And also the part where the childs feet go needs a few centimetres added as only certain shoes/trainers will fit in them. But saying that a very good product overall and I would recommend to anybody.
The only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is I had to order (and pay for) additional long bolts as the ones that came with the seat didn’t fit my bike. It took a while to get the bar fitted, but the seat was a doddle.
The little one loves being up on the bike with me and watching what is going on. She is only 13 months, I can’t imagine it will still fit when she is 4 years, but WeeRide are sure it will so I will just wait and see.
Bought this for our two-year old, he fits pretty snugly, even with being large for his age.
Pretty easy to fit initially and then simple to just remove the seat between family bike rides. Riding-wise, I do find I have to ride with my knees sticking out to avoid them bumping the seat while I’m pedalling although you do get used to it. Much better suited to more gentle (flat) rides than big hill climbs due to your knees sticking out, but my son absolutely loves it and I do feel that he’s a safe as possible sat just in front of me.
Overall: pretty pleased.
I had been looking for a childrens seat for some years where they could sit in front where I could see them and talk to them, so this was perfect.
Having being a mountain biker for over 17 years racing in the nationals as a sponsored rider both XC and DH I feel qualified enough to recommend the seat as a safe option for young children.
I use it for my 2 yo son and there is no way I believe it would be suitable for much over 3 years. The single bolt to fit the seat to frame seems a little minimal to think this is the only fitting to hold the plastic seat to the metal frame, and though it would be nice to have more it does the job and with being in front of me, if this did fail at least I can see my son to support him. I have this on my winter bike and have had to mount the front to the stem spacers but even though it is clamped around these they still turn freely. As for riding position, I thought I would be having sore knees and riding bow legged, especially using SPDs, but the position is fine and nowhere near as bad as some say, on long rides at full speed it would get a bit much, but I wouldn’t do huge distances, ride at speed or ride on the road with a 2 yo anyway.
This is a great seat and my boy loves it, he fell asleep on it the first ride out, it means we can go out on family rides together safely, what more could you ask for.
I rented a bike once at a park and was introduced to the front ride concept of child seats mounted on adult bikes. This led me to pour over the internet researching and comparing front mounted versus rear mounted and all of the advantages and disadvantages, etc. Ultimately, the front mounted seat was definitely the way to go. It allows you to be closer to your child as your arms are essentially around them while you drive. It also gives you a much better center of balance on the bike as all of your weight is better evenly distributed than a rear mounted bike. Also mounting and dismounting the bike are much easier than a rear mounted bike (try to get onto a rear mounted bike and you will see what I mean). The view is also much better. Instead of seeing your backside for the entire trip, they can see everything you can see and you can talk to them during the entire trip.
I mounted the bar onto my bike and then whenever I am taking my son, I simply bring the seat attachment down and it connects with a wing nut to the bike. It slides snuggly over the mounting bar which is held between the seat and the main frame. You get a real feel that this is tightly secured and safe. Just having your child between your arms also makes you feel more control.
I have a more unusual design of a bike (a Montague folding bike) but this didn’t present any problems. I would imagine that this would fit almost any bike out there.
One benefit that could be added is some type of clip on or fold up windshield. At times, especially in Ireland, where I am currently living, it can be quite windy and unfortunately my son takes a good share of the wind. I generally will bundle him up much more because of this, however a small windshield could be a nice benefit from the dashboard area.
I got this seat for my daughter at the start of the summer when she was just 6 months. The car was too hot, and i don’t like the idea of her being in the habit of car transport, so I tried her out in it nice and slowly. After a bit of strap adjustment (a cut of 2×1 and some screws) we found she was perfectly happy in it. No downhill mountain biking or anything, just quiet back roads, but by 7 months we’d often go on long rides and she’d sleep on the way home (sometimes on my arm because she wouldn’t reach the head rest!) and now she’s 9 months its our preferred way to walk the dog or go to the sunday market. She can see all the animals in the fields, watch the dog running, see where we’re going or watch her mum ride her bike, and she laughs and smiles the whole time! .. If you’re a confident cyclist and you’re reading the reviews to see if you can get your child on your bike earlier than the 1year stated, don’t be afraid to try, and even if he/she isn’t up for it on day 1, a month or 2 will pass in a flash anyway! Buy buy buy!
Arrived on time and in good packaging.
I am happy with the product.
however, this may not fit perfectly on bikes that has a bigger head tube and a bigger saddle tube.
My bike (Carrera Subway) has a bigger head tube and i could not fit the bar with the supplied bolts. I had to use the additional screws supplied with the product. I am happy about it. But, if Weeride guys had provided two more additional screws then it would have been really really good.
If you have to use 4 screws (two on the front and two on the back) then it is logical that WeeRide supplied additional 4 longer screws in case the standard screws are not good enough.
Rest everything is fine and good. I am happy with the product.
After reading a variety of mixed reviews I decided to purchase the weeride seat for my 20mth daughter – so glad I did it is excellent.
I was a bit sceptical when it arrived as the seat looks very small but I tried my 3.5 yr old son on it who is tall for his age and he could fit into the seat although his feet (size 11) are too big for the foot holders but not a problem as it is for my daughter anyway.
Seat is easy to fit and very sturdy the safety harness is easy to use and adjust just make sure you have put it correctly over childs shoulders and coats do not pose a problem.
You do have to ride your bike with your knees slightly splayed but you soon get used to adapting your riding style and it is worth the effort knowing that your little one is safe and you can see what they are up to. It does not affect the weight of the bike or your vision (Im 5’1). If you are unsure if it will fit your bike you can email the supplier on the main weerider website who is very helpful and will advise on the best style of bike, which I did before buying my bike – not recommended for mountain bikes or old style racers (drop handles).
I have had lots of comments from other mums about how fantastic it looks and my little girl loves riding on it and we can chat as we go along and she is in charge of ringing the bell which is fun. Can’t recommend this enough an excellent bike seat I feel very safe using it and it has been over 25 years since I last rode a bike!
Just take some of the negative reviews with a pinch of salt! – glad I did
As a keen cyclist I wanted to combine my cycling with spending time with my 3.5 year old son. I originally intended to purchase the normal rear mounting seat but my wife encoraged me to purchase this seat.
I am so glad she did because its absolutely great!!
The product arrived extreemly quickly and the instructions in the box are very straight forward with different size bolts depending on the width of the frame.
The post secures between the saddle post and the handle bar post and can be left fitted even when the seat is not fitted.
The seat detaches relatively easily meaning its easy enough store the seat away if you leave your bike outsde and put the seat indoors.
I keep the seat in place as the bike is in the shed when not in use.
I don’t feel that having the seat in front of me really gets in the way, I did have some doubts and I wondered how I would get on with hills etc… but its not been an issue whatsoever and as for my son, he thinks it absolutely brilliant.
He enjoys being able to see where we are going and talk about different things he can see. For me its a real piece of mind to be able to see what he is doing and not be disconnected with him sitting behind me stairing at my back.
As mentioned by others I think this seat will be perfectly fine beyond 4 years of age. The harness has a lot of give in it and is easy enough to adjust.
This is definitely one of the best buys I have made and well worth the little bit extra money, when compared to other bike seats
Bought the WeeRide Kangaroo from Amazon after much thought and research.
FIt and size – bike with drop bars
I was quite worried that it would not fit right as I have drop bars on my bike (can’t remember but it’s a medium frame – I’m 5’10”). It does say quite clearly that it’s not designed to fit with drop bars as the ridding position leaves very little space for the seat + baby. I thought that, worst case, I’d get new bars.
However, the WeeRide fits just fine and does not change my ride position too much with the little one in. He was 10 months old when I got it, hes a year old now. It will certainly be an issue soon, once he grows a little bigger, but easy to solve by replacing with more upright bars.
Assembly
It’s quite straight forward to put the WeeRide together. The key challenge is getting the horizontal support bar attached firmly to the bike – at the seat post and the headset riser (?) – the bit that does not turn with the handle bars. It took me about 25 minutes as it is a little fiddly to do by ones self, and also with a curious baby crawling about!
Tip: adjust the bar so that there’s a little space between it and the top tube – especially where the baby seat screws in. At first I had it too close, and the screw that holds the seat onto the bar scratched the paint on the top tube (aargh – that hurt!)
Ride
The little one fits really well – he’s still quite little so the foot wells are a little to big for him (even though they can be adjusted up and down) – he sometimes gets his feet out – but that’s all right, I suppose, because his legs aren’t long enough to get him into trouble yet, and the WeeRide sits solidly between him and the wheels / other moving parts. This will resolve itself in a month or two when he grows taller and fits into the foot wells correctly.
At first, I was very unsure about the headrest and found it quite gimicky. However, it’s very well thought through – it keeps his little hands out of trouble – preventing him from reaching the handle bars – yanking or otherwise affecting steering. Also, now that he’s fully comfortable on the bike, he routinely falls asleep (usually within 20 minutes of me riding) and uses the headrest – it’s quite the sight! I was a little worried that the padding material on the headrest might cause skin irritation (he’s got quite sensitive skin) – but that did not prove to be a problem at all – so well thought through. WeeRide
Design and Riding Position
I must admit that the seat is very well designed and thought through – the more you ride the more you appreciate the little engineering bits here and there that contribute to usability. The headrest, the way the harness straps can be adjusted from behind the seat (no need to get off the bike to loosen them a wee bit if he’s stretched forward and got his head down) etc. Also the little curves, nips and tucks really do a good job of staying out of the way of the rider. That said, I find it quite difficult to keep my thighs parallel as the seat gets a little in the way. As a result, I have to angle my ankles inwards a little, and that puts pressure on my feet and causes fatigue at my ankles. not an issue with short rides, but I can see this being a barrier to riding more than 10-12 miles at a stretch. Maybe this can be resolved with new handle bars and a more upright position?
Getting the seat on and off
It’s quite easy to remove the seat (the horizontal support bar stays on the frame) with just a single thumb screw – no tools required – 2 minute job. that’s really handy when riding to work. However, the horizontal bar does add a bit of weight and if you’re finicky will affect how your bike looks (it’s a dull textured grey metal surface paint that looks very ordinary / industrial – I’d love for it to be a little better finished – maybe hi-gloss white for instance)
Final thoughts
This was a great purchase – super happy with it – really does what it says on the tin, and seems much better than other seats that mount at the back / on the handle bars. The key thing is that the little one really loves it and loves his time riding with daddy!
We’ve used this for well over a year now – my son is now 2 and a half and it has fitted him and my Specialised Cirrus just fine. I dont think it will stretch much above 3 years though so be wary of the manufacturers claims.
The seat is really easy to attach and the mount which attaches to the bike is strong. I disagree with other reviews that this is a flimsy product.
Yes, riding style is interesting – your knees will splay out but i have ridden many different bikes over varying distance and unless you are cycling over 10 miles i dont think this is a real issue. It will stop you from picking up pace – but hey, you have a little person on board right?
What is tricky, and my reason for not giving 5 stars is the act of getting on the bike – you have to swing your leg over from the back so it clears the saddle and you have to be really careful as you lower that leg on to the far pedal thatyou dont overbalance the bike. I use this really frequently and have never had a problem but you could lower the seat if this was an issue. For instance, i would not recommend this to older people or those with less mobility for this very reason.
My personal technique here is to rest the back of the knee of the leg i am swinging over on top of the saddle and then gradually sidle on.
The real positive here is being in communication withe your child – I would point things out to my son and we would comment ont he colours of cars as we drove past, he would call out whenever he saw a dog etc. They’re pretty stimulated when they’re on this and I found it agreat time to get a bit of a dialogue going.
Also, and this is perhaps obvious – you can SEE them. On top of that, your arms form a protective cage around them – what if the bike slips and they’re on the back? the wee-ride gives me a great deal of reassurance and aside from the getting on thing, this seems much much safe
When I was looking to buy a children s seat I didn’t want the rear ones as I wanted to be able to see my 17 month old as we were going along so when I saw this seat I was very keen but unsure regarding the fitting due to my bike being full suspension. Various reviews and also comments from certain well known cycle shops had said they would not fit full suspension but I emailed the manufacturer WeeRide and uploaded a pic of my bike and Mat came back and said it would be fine. I got home from work the day the package arrived and it was fitted within 30-40 mins give or take a little bit as my 17 month old was helping me at the time by walking off with the allen key or various parts needed. As soon as it was on we were up and down the road and my boy loves it I am 100% happy with the WeeRide and would def recommend. I will upload a pic to show my bike and the seat fitted which may help any one who like me had some doubts whether it was suitable for your bike.
Fitted in about 15 mins, easy to follow instructions. Bought for my 12 month old son who loves it! (now 14 months) Lots of people have said that they have problems with their legs hitting it when they cycle, I am 5ft 7 and have no real issues at all, You do have to cycle with your legs slightly wider but I don’t find it a problem. even when wearing shorts. My son has fallen asleep on it and managed to get his head in a reasonable position on the head rest and my arms helped to support him. I frequently cycle around fields on the local bridlepaths with the dogs and even though it is bumpy it doesn’t seem to bother my son at all. He likes to turn his head and look up at me and point out things he sees. My son is fairly tall and I wonder if I will still feel comfortable cycling with him, or indeed he will still fit in it when he gets to age 4. I like the fact that I can see him at all times and I’m not wondering what he is doing behind my back. I would recommend it.
My only complaint is that I never ordered sooner 🙁 I have been looking into buying a WeeRide seat for my now 23 month old for the last year but was hesitant because of the reviews I have read on here. Finally after being unhappy with a rear seat I ordered this product,so I could see my daughter at all times and not have to turn around all the time to talk to her and see what she was up to. I was worried about it being an uncomfortable ride which it isn’t at all!!! My daughter loves being able to see the world better and we can talk and she can hear me all the time. She even fell asleep the other day on the bike that is how much she loves it. If you are thinking about buying this – stop thinking and buy it. You will not regret it. I haven’t rode a bike in 10 years and have no problem riding with the WeeRide up front. Installing it took about 10 minutes (besides the enclosed instructions you can find videos on youtube. I do worry that it wont still fit her when she is 4 years old because she is a big girl but I am not too concerned as they guarantee it! Thanks Weeride
Easy to fit, reasonably priced, well made and very safe.
I would recommend this over other, rear mounted, bike seats as it is more stable having your little-one on the front where your weight naturally is on a bike, and it’s more fun for them as they can see where you’re going!
You get a bar which runs between your seat stem and headset and the actual seat attaches to the bar by means of a screw, which means it’s easy to put on and take off. You can also buy a bar separately, which we did, so we have one on each bike and it’s very easy to switch the seat between bikes.
The only quibble I have is that the bit of the harness which goes between the child’s legs can’t be lengthened so sometimes it’s a bit of a pfaff buckling the harness, especially in winter when you have big coats to deal with! But this is a minor point and I would absolutely recommend this seat to cycling parents who want to take their little ones with them.
I received this item at 9am monday morning after ordering it at 2pm on Sunday – super speedy delivery. Plus good price!
The seat was very easy to attach to the bike too.
I had tested seats that fit to the back of the bike and did not feel confident riding with my 14 month old as felt I would drop him. This is not a worry with the wee ride as the weight is in front of you giving you control at all times.
I love it my son loves it so worth every penny ( as a bit more expensive that the other back seats)not a bad word to say about the product!
I also found out why the stand at the front is a great feature when my son fell asleep and just rested his head.
I can reach the handle bars with no problem and even though you have to ride slightly bow legged its really not a negative.
Can’t say how pleased I am with this seat- lots of happy riding ahead!
I have a full suspension mountain bike so can not use a rear mounted child seat. This seat seemed to be exactly what I wanted. I read the comments on here both positive and negative and decided to give it a go. This set up is brilliant. The mounting bar is sturdy and the fixings are of a very good quality(I am also an engineer, really I am). The seat is lightweight but strong and ideal in size for the position it fits on the bike. My 1 year old daughter loves it and I feel better being able to see and interact with her. I can honestly say that the people who have given this negative feedback must have bought something different. Maybe some people cant read instructions aswell because it is simple to fit and very secure. I am puzzled as to why some people have not got on with this product. I will agree that you have to alter your riding style a little but thats obvious because there is an extra seat between your knees! Really dont be put off by the negative comments.
Well I had high expectations for this product and it more than met my requirements.
Well designed, well packed and easy to install with clear instructions.
What is of course most important is that our little boy loves it! We had a traditional rear mounted child seat but my 5yr old son now prefers to use his tag along so I needed a different solution for our now 8mth old. Technically he is still too young to use this seat but he is strong enough to walk already so he is strong enough for this. He sits there with his helmet on and loves every minute of the ride.
I am very very pleased to of bought this product and would highly recomend it to anyone else, far superior to the traditional rear carriers. I think even as he gets older he will not get in the way.
