I constructed a barn door for my bedroom, I needed a heavy-duty rail system to support the weight of the wood used for the door as well as the numerous metal bolts and lug nuts I also used. The screws that came with the rail system were long, which I needed, and the assembly was quite easy. I did the work by myself, I used a 2×4 to attach the rail system to as I live in a manufactured house and there is no sheet rock, and then attached the 2×4 with the attached rail system to my wall, drilling into the sides of my 2 x4’s in the wall, the rail system is beautiful, strong, and will last forever. The wheels roll beautifully.
Great kit, works well and looks better in person. I wasn’t aware of the need to buy and extra 1x to mount to the wall to attach the rail to but it is the best way. Wife loves it, we get tons of compliments on it.
It came well packaged, just as described. The instructions were easier to follow, than some things we’ve gotten! It glides nicely and I really like the look of it. I’m going to get 2 more, for our closet doors!
Bought this at the beginning of our renovations, turned out we needed two and they no longer had this one in stock. Ended up passing it along to my eldest son and he installed it and swears by it. Says it was super easy to install, great instructions and whisper quiet… all sounds good to me
Great product once installed. I did a 14′ bar with two 48″ doors and the install was challenging for one person. But once up, it looks and works great!!! Worthwhile purchase!!
AMAZING customer service, courteous and fast responses. They sent out what I needed for my door being thicker. Instructions are easy to follow. I had to modify my door, (not because of this kit, just because of the way my doorway is) which worked out because it looks even better. Even with the weight of all the extra wood, paint, and stain it slides amazing. Will 100% order another one of these when we can use one.
Having never installed a barn door before, I was pleased with the quality of craftmanship. I have not yet installed but don’t believe that there will be any problems, I would recommend this product.
I had a 10-foot installed and loved them so I purchased a second one 14 ft and extra set of the door connector wheels. It is beautiful as well. However, this one didn’t come with the spacers needed to allow all my trim to stay in place. Its all installed but the contractor left and I realized I couldn’t shut or open door because it hit the base trim and when opening in one direction hits the door frame trim. I read if you needed extra spacers, you could request them but can’t find how. I need 10 or maybe 20 if you can use 2 to make sure they clear. I tried to buy at home depot but they don’t carry and have written in the contact us area of your website. Please let me know how i can get these. thanks
The good: the quality and appearance of this barn door kit is excellent. I expect that when properly installed (see below), the track, mounting hardware, rollers/wheels and finish will last a lifetime. The track, wheels, brackets, and all installation hardware are very robust and seem to have a good durable powder coat finish. The wheels roll quietly and effortlessly on the tracks.
The not so good:
Proper installation of a kit like this – especially for large double doors, is not for a DIYer without some degree of home improvement experience, another pair of hands, and a decent amount of tools (drill, impact driver, level, 1/2″ socket, etc). What makes it more of a challenge is that a few pieces of the less crucial hardware provided with this kit aren’t good fits – like too-small washers etc. The biggest challenge is that the instructions are not clear when it comes to a few of the measurements for where to drill, washers and spacers provided, and where they should be used. For this reason installation takes longer than it should. For example, the acorn nuts on the roller bracket bolts bottom out on thinner doors (most barn doors). Even though thick plastic washers are provided that properly fix this issue, they are not mentioned in the instructions. Mechanical ability and some common sense is required to figure this out.
When these unclear installation steps are figured out, the end result is five stars.
The hardware is heavy and seems sturdy. I built my own barn door so I was a little worried cause I used actual wood and not some cheap, crappy, light particle board replica. It holds the door well with NO FLEX. The door glides across the track with ease.
This kit DOES come with floor guides for the door but they are plastic and have to be screwed into the FLOOR. I purchased a separate one that can be screed into the molding or wall and it worked out better for me.
Oh, this does NOT come with a handle. HAHA. Not sure why I thought it would but it doesn’t so at first I had to move the door along the track very carefully.
The one downside I had with this is, I ordered a longer bar which is NOT one bar but two. Those two bars are held together by a plate and 4 SMALL bolts. The instructions have you putting together the bars first and then holding them up to the wall. If you are a home DIYer, this might not go as smooth as they or you planned. BE WARY OF THE TWO BARS FLEXING ON THEIR OWN. This will bend and twist the plate and there will be some work to be done to get the bars to line up evenly again. On that note specifically, if they would have just made it so that there were TWO PLATES (one on each side) to hold the bars together for the longer sets, this might have solved this whole problem. Mine has a little bump in the middle that doesn’t really impede the operation but you can tell there is a small misaligned due to the bar being slightly being bent.
Other than that, I love the hardware. Very simple and easy to install.
