Seems very accurate and reliable. Easy to read and set-up. However, it seems to take a little while for my readings to be stable and then go to a final reading which goes to the app. My wife says this isn’t the case for her so maybe user error.
The scale works well and displays weight, weather, etc. and connecting to the app/Wi-Fi is easy but after a year with this scale, I have been unable to get the body measurements to work (i.e., body fat percentage, etc.).
The scale itself is smart and well built its functionality would be great if it worked.
Forums are full of messages with same issue.
I set scale up to work with everyone in household in the middle of November. Everything was fine until just after Xmas. Weights stopped syncing to App.
I’ve spent three hours on to support who though all helpful and polite couldn’t resolve issue.
Working in IT myself I have logically step by step gone through all permutations but ultimately after adding third user the syncing stops working.
I’ve even gone gone as far as deleting all accounts. Setting up new ones with different email addresses but as soon as I add third user it stops syncing.
I’ve checked all account for any unassociated weights which Withings suggest is the issue. There are none.
I’ve tried setting up scale using another account as the primary account and again as soon as I add a third account the syncing stops.
I’ve now emailed support who quoted 24hrs to respond that is over four days ago and I’ve heard nothing.
So I may be forced to attempt a return on scales.
So great scales let down by integration.
I got this to help me and my partner to lose some lockdown weight (yep still got it going strong!)
Using this has made me feel much more motivated to gain lean muscle and bone density for health reasons. My health has deteriorated since my BMI went up, hormones are all over the place etc. This is a really useful piece of kit for me to help myself get back to a better place with things. Great invention! Technology for good!
My only gripe with this piece of bathroom tech is that it won’t work unless and until you connect it to the App.
I have no problem with there being an App. I just don’t want to be dragooned into using it, whether I want to or not.
Finding these great to use. Set up was a bit of a faff but that was more down to me being a typical man and not reading the instructions but there are some good Youtube videos. Both me and my wife use it, it has separate profiles set up for each of us and having gone through setting it up once for me, doing it a second time for my wife was a doddle – definitely should’ve read the instructions the first time haha.
You do really need the app to get it set up and ideally hook it up to your wifi too. Without using the app it’s effectively just a set of digital scales that’ll show your weight and you may as well save your money and get one of the sub 20 ones if you just want to do that.
Whilst I’m not sure of the actual accuracy of the bone, muscle, fat and water content readouts those in the know have said that it’s within 3% of medical grade measuring equipment for those things so I think for home use that’s good enough.
Keeping track on the different parameters, providing you with great insights.
Out of 10:
Overall score: 8
Customer experience: 10
Quality: 9
Review: The aesthetic is very good. It is a very good looking balance.
The app is great and it is easy to use, It can be improved though. Sometimes it is hard to find your weight metrics as it gives preferences to the other metrics.
There has been opportunities where my weight goes off by 3 kg and I have to weight myself 3 or 4 times in the lapse of of 1 min to get the weight right.
Overall it is a good product and it helps you to keep track of your body fat and weight. So far I ve used it with only one member, but it recognised very well when someone else use it instead of me and does not register the weight under my account.
So far so good! Takes a while to learn how to navigate the app.
The WI-FI feature is the cherry on top, not needing to bring your phone with you to sync data.
The scales accuracy is very impressive on a few different surfaces I tested.
Looks nice. The black one does easily show marks from feet but I don’t mind. It’s usually stored under a cabinet and pulled out.
Setup was pretty straightforward.
It’s great to use — you can tell they’ve worked on polishing that experience. Just step on and it determines who you are by weight (if there are multiple users). Then it shows a few customisable values (e.g. weight, change from last time, BMI) one after the other at a reasonable pace, and then it shuts off. The data syncs to the app on your phone within a minute or two without any interaction needed.
The app is fine, with useful graphs.
Very impressed. Wish I’d gotten it sooner!
Using the app to track weight is easy.
On Accuracy, I’m happy with the weight. I do see variations between carpet and hard floor, so using the same spot will ensure consistency for the trend analysis.
Other measures are questionable. The Fat and muscle numbers fluctuate too widely in daily measures to give much confidence that it is an accurate measurement.
I’m not sure how it differentiates between users. I’m often asked whether it’s me or my wife on the scales and there is at least 7 Kg difference.
I’ve seen reviews complaining about accuracy, but I didn’t buy these thinking they’d be medical-grade. They give you a rough idea of weight, BMI, muscle mass, fat – it’s a nudge to stop at one bowl of ice cream rather than something for elite athletes.
Not cheap but has been a great purchase and invaluable in shedding a few pounds. Keep an eye on this product in Amazon deals for best value, bought mine during prime day
In the end (and 30 min later) I had sucessfully paired it to my new tablet on the first try and I set about weighting myself about 4 times in a row to get an idea of any variances. These scales shows fluctuations into the 0.1lb (which I think is extreme really) though any variances I saw was literally to this decimal.
Weighting myself once a week, the scales show you by little arrows that flash on the corners of the screen if you are putting too much weight on the back or front of your feet which does shift the weight by >1lb.
The app could be designed better, though its easy enough to find our way around and it shows you via a graph your progress with each wight in. At the bottom of the front page is tells you your current trend, whether you are stable etc.
At full price of 80 I find this to be more than I am willing to pay, though I did purchase this during Black Friday for about 60.
Scales are very easy to use and seem to be consistent with each reading. They also look quite nice. I almost went for a much cheaper scale that seems to do the same thing. However, in the end I decided to pay for a bigger branded one in the hopes that there won’t be issues with supporting the app in years to come.
I would recommend this product.
There was nothing difficult in setting up of the scales , in fact it was quite easy as the app does all the hard work for you. Updates were done automatically through the app which was certainly no different than updating any other item over the internet.
All in all I for one am delighted with these scales, they have proved to be a good investment and well worth that little extra than the normal bathroom scales especially if you have health issues which you are attempting to address. I for one would not hesitate to recommend these as they are simply a amazing piece of kit.
First thing I did was demolish the box in attempt to satisfy my geek synapses and get at the techiest pair of scales I’ve ever owned.
Naturally I did not look at the instruction manual once and proceeded to attempt pairing said device with its app.
1,2,3,4,5,6…times attempting to pair…deleted and re-installed said app. 1,2,3 times more and now frustrated and wished I had been more careful in opening the box.
Going against the Male instinct. I hunted down the manual. After following the instructions. Surprisingly, it worked. Who’d have known.
Anyway, great quality product. All works as it should, even tells me what the temperature outside is. Fu#%ing hot! Unfortunately it appears to be faulty as its tell me I’m 15 stone 8. I thought I was 16 stone!!
It connects to other native apps such as my samsung fitness and Google fit app with no probs.
Here starts my attempt to reach 11 stone. My wallet has lost 90 pounds already, but worth every if it helps maintain motivation in achieving a goal. Big thumbs up.
The scales are accurate and consistent, I compared the results to the InBody system at my local gym that cost 5 per analysis and the overview was similar.
Like most people I used them several times out of the box in quick succession, the results were consistent with little or no variation.
The app is good to use and displays all your historical data that you can view weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually. I’ve linked the Withings to My Fitness Pal and Fit Bit apps. The MFP app link was pretty easy. I had to download the IFTTT app to link them with the FitBit app this was done once and it works fine. I like the results on the Fit Bit app is it gives you a weekly weight average which is a better barometer of your progress than a daily report.
I bought the white ones after reading on here that the black ones showed fingerprints and footprints. They look great and they’ve spurred me on in my fitness drive, I lost weight, dropped both fat % and BMI.
Thoroughly recommended 5 star
Update 8/5/20
Since I purchased these I’ve lost 7lbs, watching my calorie intake closely on MFP and weighing daily on the Withings. The readings go up and down but anyone who weighs on a daily basis knows this is always the case. The average per week is the key data, the info provided have helped me move in the right direction.
I bought this to replace a Withings WS30 that we had since 2014 but suddenly stopped working. In terms of functionality, this new scale offers much more information, but whether we will actually ever use bone mass or water mass is not certain!
It looks good, is easy to operate and understand, and easy to wipe clean. I have linked the data it produces into MyFitnessPal, so I don’t need to update that manually each time (I also use Walkmeter in the same way).
I like the way it allows different family members to use it and it automatically recognises who’s who. The iphone app is quite usable if simplistic. I haven’t found a way to export data into a text or csv file, which would be helpful for use in a spreadsheet.
As for accuracy, who knows? I don’t have anything to judge it against, but I have no reason to doubt it – and besides, all I want to see is a decreasing value in the graph – I don’t care if it’s a pound or two out.
One thing I have noticed is that it seems more sensitive than the WS30 to the weighee (?!) not being properly positioned on the scale. It sometimes takes a little big longer for it to lock. Not a showstopper by any means and perhaps it means the result is more accurate.
All in all, I recommend these scales, especially if you’re embarking on a weight loss plan and need something to automatically log your readings.
On our weight loss journey we decided to invest in a set of smart scales so that it was easier to monitor our progress. Weight accuracy seems to be good – although in this day and age there is no reason that any scale should be inaccurate – it is not a particularly difficult thing to measure electronically. Likewise BMI is a calculation based on weight and height so again this is accurate provided you can accurately measure your height.
The other measurements are much harder to electronically measure so you do get some amount of fluctuation on those. My advice would be to weigh yourself each day but as far as the non-weight measurements not rely on the daily number. Instead, using the app look at the graph over a week or month and look for the trend by drawing an imaginary line though the middle of the points – it’s a shame the app doesn’t do this for you. Doing that you will be able to see if things are going up or down depending on what your goal is.
The other thing I would mention is remember to stay on the scales after you get the weight reading. More than once I’ve stepped off as soon as I get my weight only to realise it’s not done all of the other measurements. It’s quite easy to delete a measurement via the app though. The app synchronises with the Apple health app easily although it did take a few attempts to get the scales set up initially.
A final comment would be when ours arrived it was quite clear that it has already been opened and used. This was not a Warehouse purchase so I was really disappointed as it was the first time in over 13 years Amazon had let me down. The scales were returned and a set purchased at Argos instead at the same price.
As per usual, I lost about half a stone and hit the plateau but after checking the app I could see my muscle mass was increasing, as was my water, fat had reduced – weight stayed the same… this went on for a good few weeks, I’d of certainly long given up under normal conditions then the weight started dropping again – now since January I’ve lost over 2 stone (from 18.12>16.8) and its still gradually coming off & its actually staying off despite the occasional pig out session at Family BBQ’s etc
I’ve had Bluetooth scales in the past, but the moment they can’t link to your phone or have some sync issue of some sort that connections broken and realistically you’ll never ‘fix’ it and its just clunky, but these being WiFi scales the moment you stand on them they upload the data to the cloud which can then be accessed online / on app with just your login details – never any worries about syncing or opening your phone app to update it etc
The Accuracy on these scales is pretty good, I’ve certainly had a few phantom results for sure but overall the timelines and statistics it provides are accurate enough plus you can easily remove any phantom results with a swipe on the app if you want to keep things tidy.
It’s a simple thing, not cheap but in the grand scheme of things it was 90 & I can honestly say I wouldn’t have lost 2st+ (and continuing) without them.
It took him a while to set them up with the App but once that was done they are super easy to use. We are both users and at one point we weighed a very similar amount but if you lean over slightly to one side it will identify which person is on the scales very swiftly (ie I have to lean to the right, he leaned to the left).
If you are curious about his diet – He didn’t follow any prescribed diet, He cut out bread, occasional treats and lunch. He found if he ate fruit and yoghurt (not natural low fat yoghurt but one of the tastier thicker varieties) for breakfast and a Miso Soup for lunch (only 44 cals but he found it satisfied his needs – Itsu brand that is a paste and very tasty apparently) he then ate a healthy meal (mix of carbs, veg and protein – spaghetti bolognese with veg/salad or similar but not calorie counted) he didn’t go too hungry and it suited him. He had 2 x Americano coffees daily with milk and sugar (first thing and about 11am usually).
So why a star lost… Well my old Tanita did a number of things that the much newer Nokia doesn’t. Such as Visceral fat, metabolic age, body shape and Basal Metabolic Rate. Though these stats were not going to be very accurate they could be relied on to give you a general trend which was motivating. Since these can be calculated from the way muscle mass and water are measured this doesn’t seem like a huge stretch to include especially when in the app you can switch off which stats you want to see. C’est la vie.
To summarise well worth your consideration, especially if you can get it on a deal.
————————————————
This product isn’t as smooth and stream line as you would expect. It can be quite buggy and cumbersome when combining it with the Nokia Health Mate app. In a household of 3 people, it will either show an icon saying that it doesn’t recognise you at all or it will ask you to let it know who you are by leaning left or right. On the upside to this, if you look through the app, it will let you know that a weighing was made but not assigned to someone, giving you the opportunity to assign it to your self thus triggering the device to identify you the next time. (hopefully)
The symbols that pop up on on the device screen are not very helpful and there is no obvious guide to be found, so a lot of guess work is required.
I almost decided to return the item when syncing it to the app for the first time didn’t work. The issue was that you had to choose the correct product name in order to start the process. However, the actual device name didn’t work and I had to select the name of the next model up.
The app was recently updated, Jan 2018, and a few of its features are working now instead of giving zero as a weighing result.
Overall, if you have the patience, it is a good product. I use it every morning after the gym and so far the data it is giving me is helpful.
UPDATING MY REVIEW, I’m updating my review now as although I had/have good internet connection, what I didn’t realise was that it would take a few days to work properly, now that it does I’m very pleased with these scales and they are definitely a good way of keeping focused and on track with your finances regeam. I’m upping my 1 star to 4, (would be 5 but it would have been nice to have known in advance how long they would take to sync, also some features work great on my phone app, but still don’t show up on the scales ?) All in all though I’d say to anyone thinking of buying them, go for it, it’s well worth the wait.
