Wood Trick Safe Wooden Model Kit for Adults and Kids
Wood Trick Safe Wooden Model Kit for Adults and Kids to Build – DIY Locker Puzzle Box with Combination – Mechanical – Store Your Precious Items – Heavy Duty Design – 3D Wooden Puzzle
I bought it as a gift for my niece and I helped her put it together. I LOVED IT. I couldn’t believe it the level of detail. I am going to buy more from this company. I had way too much fun putting this together.
The item matched the seller’s description. Very good and simple “step by step” assembly instructions. The difficulty level is 3. I had a lot of fun assembling it. But you should also have a lot of time and patience. Gladly again, I can only recommend the seller. 🙂 Thumbs up
The idea of a wooden safe that is fully functional and can be built with your own hands is absolutely brilliant. I built it with my 11 y/o who always enjoyed lego and building. This is of course next level building.
It wasn’t easy, I confess we needed to disassemble it once after first assembly we found the lock wasn’t operational, but we persevered, looked at all the instructions again and figured it out.
For us it was about the task at hand and achievement, oh as a screen time detox benefits
il n’a pas a rougir devant les leader du march, finition impeccable, trs beau et hyper dtaill, un trs beau cadeau pour un passionn de ce genre d’assemblage ou de maquettes
Was very well-made and take ours an hours the very end and stood there with 3/4 of the men just truly not pretty cards were played dice were thrown in the last person with a quarter chicken it was a lot of fun to make
There are a lot of little pieces but it is not difficult to assemble. It is a fun project that is an operating and fun display that sparks conversation! We have put together the sports car and the safe which we have gifted to our grand daughter as a piggy bank! These are a lot of fun to watch come together.
I purchased this puzzle for my husband. He thoroughly enjoyed putting it together. He mentioned it was a challenge but he loves challenges.
Product is as described. Once completed looks just as the picture. Fast delivery.
This Safe LOOKS secure and IS secure. The combination lock works perfectly.
I recommend lots of gear lubricant. The gears on the Safe body are for show, and create both friction and extra-noise that makes it difficult to hear when the Combination dial engages. You may wish to remove the last gear, on the Safe door, that engages the gears on the Safe body, until you are confident that the Combination dial and lock, work well.
I also use a WD-40 Dry Lubricant spray, in place of the supplies wax. The spray coats the wood with a PTFE polymer that is far superior to wax.
This is one of the better wooden models I’ve put together. It’s very sturdy and the mechanics involved are really cool. People that are saying the combo doesn’t work likely ran into what I did. You have to turn the second number more than you would think you do to engage the second wheel. It ends up being like 3 turns to set the second digit. Once I figured that trick out my kid was able to open it up. I do recommend a pair of needle nose pliers, an exacto knife, and a metal file to sand with. The last thing isn’t needed, just makes it easier most of the time. Don’t skimp on the wax either. I really enjoy putting this together with my son. Good bonding time and now he has a really cool piggy bank.
My daughter and eight year old grandson built one, “cogs” would not turn, door would not close. So I ordered one to build to give to him as he loves combos, locks and saving change. I hope this one will work when finished.
My overall rating for this wood “build it up yourself” safe is 5 stars, even though each of the three individual categories listed got a 4.
It’s not easy to build!, but that’s good – it’s not supposed to be. I do think the quality of the materials is good, consistent, and there are no booby traps involved with the build up, but it’s not easy.
It’s a good gift, but only for the right person who enjoys some complex model building. It has been a great project for my 11 year old son. We have done 2 of these types of wood model builds. He did much more on his own with the second build and we both enjoyed the process.
And… the built model is pretty solid, but I wouldn’t give it 5 stars for sturdiness (maybe that is unfair of me, as it’s as sturdy as you can expect a complex mechanical model to be).
But back to the overall rating: oh, it’s definitely a 5. Between the quality of the material, the overall well written instructions, and the enjoyment we’ve had building these types of models, I think it’s a great item and I’d be glad to get another for my son to build.
I got this for my nephew for Christmas and he is obsessed with it. He’s been working on it solidly for 5 hours and his dad has been jumping in too. It’s super well constructed but very intricate. If you’re buying this for a teen they should be patient and focused. If they are they will love it.
I was able to build this safe in less than 6 hours. I bought it for my boyfriend as a Christmas gift but we broke up so I built it myself. I think it’s safe to say I angry-built it. So that may have contributed to the few mistakes I made with the locking mechanism. It took a couple of tries with picking at a couple things but eventually I got it built and IT WORKS! I can lock and unlock it reliably now!
Here are a few more things I noticed:
1. Sometimes punching the wooden things out of the backing caused them to chip a bit. It was kind of annoying but didn’t affect it’s functionality. And it came with a small sheet of spare parts that could be easily broken.
2. I would suggest doing this over a large space. Spread out all the stuff in front of you out on a table so you can see everything, it will make it easier!
3. I would say it’s easy to make mistakes while building it, but that it’s also easy to fix them and figure out what’s wrong. Get in there with a flashlight and move things around if you need to if the mechanism is stuck or something so you can see what might be wrong. Some times I wouldn’t cut the toothpicks short enough and they blocked how things moved.
4. It’s super satisfying when it’s finally done and works!
I should preface this by saying I’m only about 3/4s of the way done. But so far, it’s been a lot of fun to do with my 12y/o daughter. I wouldn’t say it’s “easy to assemble” but I think that’s part of it, since it is kind of a puzzle. Some of the pieces are a little difficult to pop out but all in all it’s been fun to do and looks super cool so far. As far as “sturdy”, at the end of the day it is thin wood, but I don’t think it’s meant to keep heirloom jewels in. If your child likes legos, which mine does, this is definitely a great next step up.
This product is way better than the other brand. The wood is all one size and very very easy to build. Although the price is a little steep, but that’s the price u gotta pay for a perfect and solid safe….
What a great kit. Everything lined up and went together the way it should. There was one piece missing and customer service was quick to respond and replace the item. Just needed a knife to trim tootpicks. No glue or other tools required. Instructions are great – a book is included (pdf version available) and a video was also accessible. Definitely looking forward to trying their other kits, had a lot of fun with this one.
But the instructions for setting your own code were confusing. But after taking it down again, all is made clear.
The lock is not as precise as a real safe , but it works ok!
This is a great extra heavy duty kit and very much fun to assemble…I’m no stranger to these wooden kits as I have assembled quite a few…this is of good quality and well illustrated instructions.. you must follow them to the smallest detail for the finished product to operate smoothly…the only negative thing I’ve come to dislike is having to work with toothpicks!!!! I mean Really!! Wouldn’t very thin metal shafts/axles work better?
I really enjoyed building this Wood Trick safe. It wasn’t very hard to build, just needed to pay attention, look ahead a few steps to see what an why you are doing each step. Great for kids to learn.
It is a really fun project to do and looks great at the end. The only problem is that you can barely spin the combination part and I have been completely unsuccessful at setting my own combination. I’ve taken apart the combination lock twice now to make sure it was all done properly and waxed up extra well but it still is extremely hard to spin, and is kind of jumpy when it does spin. I can still use the locking gear to lock/unlock the door so that’s good.
If anyone knows how to fix these problems then I’d like to know what you did to make yours spin better.
Initially I received one of these that was defective but was quickly replaced and sent out the next day. The puzzle itself is fun and very cool, the only reason why it lost a star is because it isnt the easiest thing to put together. Parts of the build require you to put toothpicks through tiny holes and because of it makes building the safe very hard on the finger and hands and just difficult altogether.
While not ROKR quality, it still held up against all the other brands and I had a great time. The instructions were clear and I only made very few minor mistakes (mostly because I didn’t pay attention to some of the details and was painlessly fixed). Overall build was well thought out and I enjoyed watching the gears turn.
However!
If you’re an adult buying this for your child ALWAYS supervise / assist in the building! There are many steps related with toothpicks and can cause injuries if not careful. Apply a thin layer of wax on one end or use small pliers to make it easier for you.
In conclusion; If you’re a person who likes building with wooden model kits, try this one out!
Just be careful (same rule applies with all wooden kits really)…
