Got this for my missus, she’s very happy and the xbox compared to ps5 is very small and portable – so can be taken elsewhere without any problems (size of a big book)
Purchased this little beast too play Starfield as it wasn’t coming too Playstation. Anyway! So impressed with this little guy, easy set up. I paired it up with my AOC AGON AG275QXN/EU gaming monitor which is 1440p. Looks great! Got game pass ultimate for now, great games too get stuck in with. Recommended
I wanted to get a new xbox and saw this at a great price. So I thought I would try it out. Well I haven’t looked back. Storage is not great but I bought an extension Storage for it. Love how you don’t need CDs for it it’s all digital. Not loved back. Even my children love it.
Bought from Amazon as used but when it came it looked like it was brand new (only box looked a bit worn). Works well and definitely happy to buy it from Amazo
Was hesitant in buying the Xbox Series S over the X but getting it 300 cheaper I thought it was worth the risk. I couldn’t be more surprised, this little machine packs a punch in performance.
I bought the Xbox Series S refurbished for 149.99 and was sceptical about what I would receive but I am so happy. The Xbox looks brand new, no marks on the console or the controller and runs perfectly. Really happy with my purchase! I would recommended saving yourself some money and buying the refurbished version. It didn’t arrive in the original box but in a box that states it is refurbished but as far as I can tell, that’s the only difference between refurbished and new.
I got the Xbox Series S refurbished for 149.99. The console and controller look brand new, with no marks and works perfectly.
I’ve had a PS5 since launch but got the Series S as it was a good deal plus I wanted to take advantage of Game Pass and play Starfield when it comes out. So you’ll probably see me comparing the two consoles a lot.
First the good. As a console it’s powerful enough to cope with all the new releases. The size of the thing is astonishingly small compared to the PS5 and the minimalistic design is clean and crisp. The customisable menus and options are great, especially folders which is currently sorely missing from the PS5. The ability to buy and play games from the original Xbox to the current generation is great for nostalgia (I’m very tempted to revisit Lost Odyssey). The ability to carry on where you left off when switching between games is handled a lot better on the Xbox than PS5. Also the Game Pass subscription is good value and means you rarely have to purchase additional games. Lets face it, considering there’s no disc drive most people who purchase the Series S will be subscribing to Game Pass.
Then the bad points. When I first turned the console on I decided to install Halo Infinite and Forza 5, then I realised I had used way over half of the available hard disk space. Basically the base drive space is not big enough and you have no option than to buy an additional hard drive if you want more than a handful of games installed. This can be achieved either through an external hard drive or an overpriced official expansion. I found the controller feels a bit cheap compared to the PS5, nothing to ruin the experience but it just doesn’t feel next gen to me. In my opinion the Xbox’s UI feels quite cluttered and whilst it gets the job done, it does feel a bit like menus within menus. I’ve also noticed that there are a few bugs within the UI where on rare occasions the menus/processes hang or don’t load.
Overall I can’t fault the Xbox Series S for the price I paid. It’s great value for money and although it isn’t as powerful as the Series X or PS5, it’s a an excellent option for those who don’t want to spend a huge amount on a next gen console. There are a few minor annoyances as I previously mentioned, with the only major one being the tiny hard drive.
The xbox in itself is amazing, everything loads fast, works smooths but the issue is the digital only. Games on microsoft store are so expensive and many of them not available for the xbox series S…I had returned it after I’ve seen this. You can buy the xbox one cheaper and the CD games on amazon are much cheaper!
I have been enjoying this Xbox since I bought it. The graphics are amazing. I bought a game pass for only 7.99. I have enjoyed playing Halo5. The game pass make the console mega fun and essential.
The only thing is as its digital I have to download the games and relies on broadband. The games dont take long to download depending how good your broadband is.
I got all the games and add on mentioned. The quick resume is a great idea as I can resume games in seconds. The SSD makes the console much better than last generation.
It has a fair amount of storage considering it is SSD but after downloading 5 or so games the storage is then full.
I would recommend this over the PS5 if you want better value. You can get cheap game passes and there is plenty of games.
I feel this is the best console around of the current gen. I cant think of anything bad to say about this console. The only set back is it being digital but as the game passes are cheap it doesn’t seem to matter.
I have had no issues with this console since I got it. I am so pleased I bought this. I have been enjoying it since I bought it.
The unit can get hot after using it for a while and I feel the need to switch it off but still works great.
I am so happy with my purchase. This has been on my radar for so long as I miss playing Xbox. I got ps5 but Xbox is just amazing. Ofc series X will be super quality but I just like this as my 2nd console which has amazing graphics and amazing resume play. This refurb was like brand new piece. Perfect condition! If you find this console under 200 or for 200 then get it and get game pass. You won’t need anything else. Game pass ultimate is amazing.
Great purchase, xbox is as described and cannot tell its a refurb free batteries included aswell cannot fault the price
If you are casual gamer or don’t have a 4k Dolby Vision TV then this is the perfect console. It is dead silent and quick resume makes it possible to jump into a game in less than 1min.
However if you are big time gamer who likes to have 4-5 large games installed at the same time then I recommend a Series X or PS5 as it’s expensive to upgrade storage for the Series S. An expansion card is 185-220 depending on when you buy one which would take the total cost close to a Series X which has benefits such as an optical drive, 4K gaming and more storage. Therefore I recommend thinking weighing up the Series X and S carefully before buying.
Other than that gamepass is great for trying and dipping into different games. If you don’t want a subscription then there are weekly deals on xBox games. Some of which cost as little as 7-20. This makes a cost effective console to buy and own.
For those who frequently travel between homes, it’s highly transport friendly console which is not much larger than half a shoe box.
bought on a bit of a whim
can boxed and like new
I was skeptical at first about buying a refurbished model but the price was too good. I have a Series X and was after a console for the wife (and when I don’t have access to the living TV – joys of kids). So this model was already on my radar and then I saw a refurbished model and the reviews were all positive. Have had zero issues and so glad I took the chance. Packaging, as other have stated, was wrapped up like a brand new console. Everything working as expected and a joy to play. Thank you so much to all those that said before me and if you’re reading this then also take it from me, this is totally worth it and you should….treat yourself
Nice game but low storage and the game pass is quite expensive. Overall we love it and play every day.
Absolutely worth it, literally no signs of use, surely can’t have been previously used. Saved my money by not buying brand new. Definitely recommend!
Bought for my son after purchasing one for myself. Certified refurbished. Was like brand new, in original box, all packaging intact. Very happy so
Picked this up for 209.99, absolute bargain. Console works perfectly, packaged great. Essentially brand new. It even came with batteries for the controller!
Only gripe would be the limited storage, if you are planning to use this as your main console I would consider saving some more money for the Series X as the 512 GB (200GB of this reserved for the system so you only get around 340GB) does not last long.
Great gamepass machine and if you have a fast connection this is great for streaming games on gamepass for when you inevitably run out of storage.
Don’t hesitate to get a refurbished unit. It is packed up to look brand new and I couldn’t find a single imperfection on it. Works perfectly and my son is thrilled!!
I was very nervous to order a refurbished xbox online and yet I tried it has come looking brand new and currently not one issue or fault , from the xbox to the controller immaculate
Simply incredible value for money from Amazon, console was wrapped as if completely brand-new, like others have said I wouldn’t of known it was refurbished unless I bought it myself, controllers can be funny at times to pair, I had absolutely no issues and I’m pretty confident that those that have run into some of the hiccups that can happen, when pairing controllers to controls simply need to go to YouTube will read the manual for help.
Additionally, it’s widely known that the storage is a big sacrifice on this console, only 500 gig, actually 350 odd actually usable due to the operating system, the console itself will hold 3 to 4 major titles at a time, adding a simple, 99.06 terabyte external hard drive is an absolute must, all non-access games can be played from the hard drive, and moving games from the hard drive to the console is a breeze, I’m getting one gig transfer speeds from a Seagate bought from Amazon, which is excellent and completely negate. Any concerns .
I also have the series X downstairs, and that only has one gig hard drive and the same set up means the problem doesn’t really exist. You just have to work around storage allocation.
Absolutely amazing value platform, paired with GamePass You simply can’t go wrong
Game Pass is this console’s saving grace, offering a huge catalogue of games at a relatively low price and without it I’d probably be a lot more disappointed. You’d be hard pressed to find many big improvements over the One S other than the (admittedly greatly) improved loading times in most games and the smoothness of the UI.
If it looked and ran great on the One S, it’ll look the same here but run better. Any last-gen games are going to benefit from stable frame rates, but it won’t turn a 30fps locked game into a 60/120fps locked game. They’ll also benefit from drastically improved loading times, which alone is a worthy upgrade. It’s unfortunate that you can’t run the One X versions of games on here due to how the backwards compatibility layer works, meaning for those coming from the One S this won’t feel like much of a graphical upgrade, and will be a downgrade for those coming from the One X. The even bigger caveat is that this also applies to BC of older gen (360/OG) games, which don’t get to benefit from the same 4K upscaling and graphical improvements the X models do.
But what about Series optimised games? The new stuff? Well, there isn’t a lot of it right now and likely for the for the next year after launch. What is there, really does show an improvement both graphically and performance-wise over the One S. Forza Horizon 4 for example is 1080p/60fps on the Series S and it plays great! As developers get accustomed to the new toolkits they’ll be able to pump out even more impressive performance out of this small box, but for now it’s not too shabby. This is a secondary console to my PS5, so I’m playing it on the same 55″ 4K TV and while it’s less sharp up close, from couch distance it still looks pretty good to my eye. I don’t feel like I’m missing out by not having the Series X when playing optimised games, but the older games being the One S versions really does make me reconsider my purchase decision knowing that many S titles will run at below 1080p resolutions which don’t upscale nicely to 4K and come out muddy.
512gb storage isn’t great, and roughly only 360gb of that is usable. Still, I managed to fit a dozen games on there ranging from some 360 titles to some Series S optimised ones. As games don’t need the 4K textures on the S, they’re usually not too big in size. Some games are 100+gb, particularly multiplayer titles, so if you’re someone who regularly swaps between games you may find the storage limiting. You can move games off to an external drive just for safe keeping, freeing up internal space, but you can only play older gen games off it. Any new games will require to be installed on the internal storage. At 200+ for a 1TB expansion card, you’re better off just buying the Series X to begin with. The small storage space works for me, but it may not work for you.
The console is small. Not much wider and taller than a Switch, which is pretty impressive. It also runs whisper quiet, and without a disc drive there’s no spinning disc noises either. The large fan does a pretty good job of keeping it cool, and to make it even more impressive, the power supply is integrated into the console! Seriously, well done Microsoft. I do wish it had a disc drive, though. Physical games can usually be found for cheap months after release, but you’ll be paying full price (excluding sales) for digital. Not an issue for me, as it’s primarily for Game Pass games.
The controller is, in my opinion, a huge improvement over the last one despite the subtle changes. The textured, matte triggers feel much better than the glossy material that would get grimy over time. The joystick dimples are a little wider too, and a little shorter, making it much more comfortable for my thumbs during long play sessions. The D-Pad is excellently tactile, if a little obnoxiously loud. I’m all for removable battery compartments, but can we make the next iteration contain rechargeable batteries in the box? Overall, it’s a pretty great controller. I do enjoy the Dualsense’s features and ergonomics a little more, but this isn’t far behind.
Okay, so is it worth it? Sure, if you want it as a secondary console you’ll probably get a lot of love out of it. As a primary console or upgrade to One S/X? It has a lot of unrealised potential, but older games will never be at their “best” on this. If you’re okay with that, then yeah it’s a good buy.
