Excellent value for money and the light is quite bright. Would buy again.
I have bought SPV lights before so I knew this was going to be a good light. A tad bigger than I had imagined but not a problem. Bright and easy to set up with the detection and distance. The solar panel being seperate is great because it could be mounted at a brighter spot as the light itself was for a recessed door that was never going to get sunshine. It’s perfect.
I purchased this unit to illuminate a car port inertia – light output is poor compared to other solar flood lights I have – but this a third the price.
After a number of years of use it is still going.
I purchased this product due to my previous light powered by the mains had broken so I opted for a solar powered sensor light , quite impressed to be honest , it does light up the patio enough to see what you are doing outside, i wouldn’t say that its a very bright light but I am happy with my purchase , easy to install , arrived on time and a good price so its a thumbs up from me I will be purchasing more for other areas of my back garde
This is a nice meaty security light. No messing about with electrics, so can be put to use straight away. Good length of wire between light and solar panel, so you can fix your light in a dark area and place the panel where it will get the light.
The light is good and bright and would be a good deterrent to anyone sneaking around the place!
Easy to fit onto a wall. Could be used in a porch or in a garage too. Excellent value for money. Will be buying another!
Ive given this 4 stars for the simple fact i decided to buy when there is not enough day time so it works but not good enough for example the other night taking me dog for a toilet and the light didnt come on now theres 2 things why this happened 1 there wasnt enough daylight or 2 cause the wind was blowing the trees it kept coming on. But all in all pretty good easy to install a few screws here n there and away u trot. Will recommend if anyone is after a easy fix does the job.
Really good lights with good beam strength.
The whole unit is really light – so not exactly robust. You get 4 screws and 4 wall plugs but I have some wood cladding around my house and I screwed the solar panel into the wood cladding and then decided to put the lighting unit onto my outside cupboard door. Then I thought d’oh – door needs to open! It would be better on the brick wall with the lead going over my front door but it’ll do for now. The lead that connects the panel to the lights is a very good length and gives you flexibility. I feel safer coming home to the light now and being able to see my door lock. I live in a very dark part of a cul de sac so this is great!
We have put this on a dark corner of our garden and it works quite well when going out to the bin in the dark evenings. It’s not brilliant light but enough to move around safely.
Quite impressive preformance,i bought one and it arrived faulty rather than just taking a refund and being done with it, i ordered another gave it another chance and i’m glad i did the preformance is quite impressive as i’ve said before, i’m using this on my growing plot which when it gets dark there’s no light at all and just goes pitch black out side, so having something that would allow me to pack my items up to go home without rushing against the sunset was very ideal, it seems to light up my whole plot however it is a shame sometimes i cant get it to stay on when i’m on the blind side of the motion detector.
The solar panel lead allowed me to mount the solar panel further away than the light itself which was quite handy as i would prefer it to be a bit out of sight, however there is a slight downside of it can be easily lifted off and stolen.
The light is easy to fit, works well, is bright, the angle of the lights has a limited down ward postion if the unit is fitted high up. I got around this by fitting a spacer at the top to angle the whole unit down wards. Problem solved and I would buy this item again.
Edit. I’ve realised, now it’s raining, that the plug socket from solar panel to light is exposed and won’t do the contact any good. My other solar light have shield covers.
The manufacturer has replied with “Hi, This model is IP67 waterproof rated and we back up our solar powered lights with 2 year warranty so should you experience any problems for example water exposure, then we would happily offer a replacement.”
It look well made. Haven’t tested it yet. Fully adjustable motion sensor, solar panel and twin lights. Easy to put up. This has a really long lead between the solar panel and light, which is great unless you place them together! I’ll figure out how to hide the lead later on.
I have to admit that I had hoped your something like the searchlights at a WW2 POW camp. Alas, if that is the effect you are looking for then these are not for you. They will, however, do a decent job of lighting up a drive, are easy to install and the solar panel is more than adequate for the job, even during winter daylight. The 5-metres of cable gives you flexibility of positioning (although I would also recommend purchasing some cable tidies at the same time). In summary, good value and better than you would expect for the price. Recommended.
I ordered this light to light up the side of my house as now that the clocks have gone back its very dark there. I was unsure of how effective they would be, but for the low price was happy to give it a try.
I’m very pleased to say that the light is far better than I expected. The motion sensor pick me up as I walk around either corner and the light and illuminates the entire area very well indeed. I will shortly be buying another one for the other side of my house where I keep my bins.
Easy to set up and use. Bright enough without being blinding – useful when trying to put a key into a lock in the dark. Would have given 5 stars if the light heads could have been angled down further. Overall, very happy with the product and would recommend to others.
Ever since I put up my 16x9ft wooden garage/workshop last year I’ve been pondering over the best way to illuminate it – there’s no convenient way of getting mains electricity to the garage which rules out that possibility, so I was left with the options of battery powered or solar-powered lighting. I had grand plans initially to install a solar powered system with all the bells and whistles, but since I only occasionally go out to the garage in the evening when it’s dark outside it made that option seem absurdly excessive, so I decided to go for something a touch more economical and bought this wee solar kit.
>>> INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
I have to admit that I had some reservations when I first opened the box as the actual light seemed a bit cheap and nasty, but since it was only to be used in my garage I decided to forge onwards with its installation.
>>>WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
In the box, you’ll find a small solar panel with a long(ish) 5m cable, the actual lighting unit, four screws and rawl plugs and a single page of (rather rubbish) instructions.
>>> INSTALLATION
The actual installation was as simple as it gets; first of all I had to figure out where to place the solar panel and how far the 5m cable would stretch, but after a quick play it became clear that I could place the panel above the doorway of the garage and the light on the far wall facing me as I entered it – just as I hoped it would work. I had to then drill a hole using a large-ish 1cm drill bit to allow me to pass the connector and the cable for the solar panel through the bulkhead and internal cavity of the garage and run it to the far opposite wall. Putting up the actual light was a simple case of popping the two provided screws into the far wall of my garage and hooking the light onto the screwheads – there’s even a handy guide on the back of the light telling you how far apart you need to place the screws, which is a nice little touch. Finally, I had to tidy up the cable which was really simple as it could be pushed neatly between the main beams running across the centre of my garage roof.
>>> IS IT WORKING?!
Of course, the final thing I had to do was to check that the thing was actually working – and it was at this point where I encountered a problem. I noticed that the lights worked fine when the solar panel was disconnected, but that they turned off the second that I plugged it back in. The single sheet of instructions gave no clues as to how the lights actually functioned so I shrugged and thought that perhaps the batteries needed to be charged some more via the panel before it started working – since it was a sunny day I left the garage and decided to pop back the next morning.
…But there was no difference. The second I unplugged the solar panel from the unit again, the lights come on as before! Going from what I’d read in another another Amazon review of the unit, I came to the unfortunate conclusion that it must’ve been faulty, so I grudgingly pulled it all down, popped it back into the box and took it into the house. And it was at this point where a ‘EUREKA’ moment hit me. I was demonstrating to my other half (in my hallway, where there is no sunlight) why I thought the light wasn’t working and plugged the solar panel into it, fully expecting it to go out – but guess what? It stayed on!
It became crystal clear at this point that the light will ONLY come on when it detects no current coming into it from the solar panel, ergo it will only turn on when it’s dark outside! How clever! How bleedin’ obvious! What an idiot! In my defense however, this is not explained at all in the single sheet of (rather rubbish) instructions so I didn’t feel too bad.
So out I went to the garage once more and put the solar panel and light back up again!
>>> HOW BRIGHT IS IT?
If you take a gander at the picture below, you’ll see that the light is surprisingly bright – definitely good enough for seeing where I’m going and finding things when it’s dark outside.
>>> HOW GOOD IS IT AT DETECTING MOVEMENT?
The IR sensor is really sensitive and effective at detecting me the moment I open the garage door, too – so I’m actually really impressed with it. There’s also controls to adjust the maximum distance at which it detects movement and the sensitivity of it.
>>> HOW LONG DO THE LIGHTS STAY ON FOR?
Ah, now I can’t actually answer this one, shouty question-asking writing. The most time I’ve spent out in the garage with the lights on is about 15 minutes, but they stayed bright and steady for the full time. I’d imagine that they’d go on for a good 3-4 hours though. One thing to consider before buying them is whether you want them to stay on constantly for more than a minute – their maximum ‘on’ time. If you’re planning on sitting still for a good length of time they will go off if they don’t detect movement, which could end up rather annoying as you’ll need to jostle about to get them to turn back on again.
All in all, I’d definitely recommend this product.
I bought x2 of these to go inside our chicken shed, which is really large and down the end of the garden. I placed one of the lights either end of the shed with the solar panels screwed to the top of the shed facing the Sun and I am really pleased with the results, no having to switch the lights on as they come on when they detect movement and when I walk away both lights go out on their own at the same time too. The lights obviously aren’t as bright as mains spot lights but they are bright enough so I can see what I’m doing at night time, just perfect for what I want, also because I bought more than one I got a discount.
This solar powered LED light is useful in locations where there’s limited sunlight as the 5m cable allows the solar panel to be located in a better lit spot (unlike the all-in-one units). The detection range and duration of illumination can both be altered to suit which is also convenient. On the down side the ‘spotlights’ have restricted movement and can’t really be pointed much less than horizontal although the twin lamps do allow a wide area to be lit. The unit slots in place over 2 hidden screw heads so you need to be able to drill fairly accurately. The solar panel, on the other hand, is simply screwed directly in place via 2 holes in an adjustable bracket. The ‘spotlights’ each have 11 LEDs – not bright spot devices, so the level of illumination isn’t as high as you will get with those (now cheaper) units. I’ve had one on a side gate for a couple of years and was pleased with it so I just fitted another to light the north facing garage door. But what I really, really want is a high illumination, bright spot unit with adjustable duration and sensitivity, and with a separate solar panel attached via a 5m cable so it will fully charge. Not too much to ask, surely?
This item arrived yesterday and I have fitted it today. I required it for interior lighting in shed which has no power going to it. Provided with all the fixtures and fittings that were required to mount the light and the solar panel . Very simple install. The rechargeable battery that is already built in still had charge in it in it when I removed it from the box. Being the hottest day of 2016 it has taken no time at all for the battery to charge. The solar panel appears to also be the light level indicator so testing it involved having to cover it up. There is a overrided switch on the back, which is a bit of an awkward position to have it as you have to remove the light unit from its position to use. (Although if you just remove the solar panel wire from the side the unit illuminates on its own anyway, this is a much easier option) Constructed mainly of plastic this unit is very lightweight, and with the aid of measuring instructions on the rear, this helps to aid with the install. Comes with two years warranty and with a very simple visit to SPV lights website to register the lights you also get a year added for free. Well packaged, safe arrival and very good for the purpose I required it.
This is pretty good overall, but I find the output from the twin lights a bit weak. It will do the job, and thanks to the solar panel being on a long length of cable, you can place it in the sun, and the light in a shaded area if needed.
Everything works as they should: PIR works fine, panel charges in day light (grey days too, it seems). There is light sensitivity and duration (how long it stays on) adjusting dials. Overall a useful little gadget for a dark walkway. It is not too bright like others have mentioned, but is no bother if the purpose is to see a path to walk by.
My biggest complaint is that though the two lights are on swival heads that are suppose to turn all directions, the neck is too short or light body too fat, so you can’t really point it downward much. Initially I installed it slightly above head thinking it will shine down to light a dark corne between my house and garage, all it did was dazzling straight into and thus blinding my eyes, no matter how I turned them. I had to move it below knee level, even so it still dazzles a little bit. The way the hang holes are in the back of the batteries unit, there is no way you can hang it any other way, e.g. up side down, to solve this problem. So with a knee high restriction, it’s more like one of those deck solar lights on a garden spike, with the benefit of PIR and flexible location of solar panel, not really an overhead security light.
very good price, easy to assemble and come with battery pre-charged, so can test immediately. Not very bright, though. Good for shed, garage or small area but not light not strong enough for garden. Also, I don’t reaslly like the strange blue/white colour for some LEDs and this is one of them.
Bright in your eyes but typical LED dim grey on the ground. Lights the areas I need reasonably well though and works as described.
Easy to fit but way too much cable for me which is tied up and tucked behind the solar panel. 2 lights is just the job and the adjustments work well also. Not too shabby.
easy to set up and install, practical and although this won’t match an electric security light its not bad for solar powered, we installed ours just above head height approx 6′ high (from ground level), above our conservatory door and it lights up the step and a small section of patio, just enough to see to put the key in the door. we live in a dark sky area and its very dark so maybe this helps?? but for the price paid I thought it was a good little buy as it doesn’t have running costs (sunlight needed) and it doesn’t disturb the neighbours or others by blinding them when it lights up. hope this helps if you are thinking of buying one!?
Good value, however. because the height of the lights were limited (from the main body) I was was unable to direct the lights down far enough for what I wanted. So instead of using screws for fixing, I drilled a couple of holes in the main body where the securing slots are turned the lighting unit upside down and used right angled hooks. Job done. Would I recommend. Yes I would.
A solid little unit; easy to install and long cable from solar unit to lamp.
Illumination level what you should expect from 11 LEDs – good but not great, so don’t install high up expecting vast floodlighting.
Only negative I’ve found is that light body is too chunky and you cannot direct lamps downwards tight in, so needs body redesigning to be much slimmer; oh, and you cannot install upside-down!
