Brilliant my son loves it. It’s been over 6 months. So far so good.
Top notch Chromebook. DualHD Clarity of the screen is amazing. Processor speed is remarkable. A joy to use. Touch screen, good build quality. Extremely pleased. Surpassed my expectations. Highly recommend.
Easy to set up and use, screen quality is excellent, clear and resolution good, good value for money
We brought this for our daughters for homeschooling. It is a great product and they love being able to use as a tablet or laptop. The touchscreen is great and it has even been dropped already and it held strong.
Smooth, fast, lovely screen – great brightness and clarity. The screen is tall, which looks odd compared to my previous Chromebooks which have had a wide screen but the form of this Chromebook works really well.
Really good laptop. Bought during Black Friday specials so saved money. Set up in minutes and ready to work either as a general laptop or for business.
Multi use comes in handy with the full keyboard used for working then flip around to use touchscreen when browsing the web.
Laptop has more than enough power and ram to compete with other leading, more expensive brands
The manual for this Chromebook device states that there is an ‘M lock’ slot on the rear. I have located this and it is obviously different to standard Kensington lock slots of most laptop devices. As far as I can tell, this device doesn’t take T-bar locks or Noble Wedge locks either. I contacted Acer through their official website. After providing the serial number of the device they replied asking me to………provide the serial number of the device again. After replying a second time I heard nothing back. I have contacted them again and have heard nothing back. I Tweeted Acer and they said they couldn’t help, so basically Acer have produced a device but don’t know what lock fits the device. Terribly daft really…..
*UPDATE*
Contacted Amazon tech support who were able to set me up with a phone call with Acer the following day. The Acer tech assistant was unhelpful and said he would email me a solution in 15 minutes. The solution…. Acer don’t have any M locks but I should try any computer shop….. Unbelievable.
Brilliant buy and I just cannot have enough of it. Its a solid piece with all features, very technical and anyone can use it. Its like a toy. All safe features for your data and logins. No regrets
I would so recommend this chromebook I am currently using it for college work but will be happy to use it after I have finished college, I dont think that I’ll ever go back to a laptop unless I have to.
Slim chromebook ..not had the item long enough to say much on battery life…arrived promptly & packaged well … got on the prime sale so price was reasonable
his is a great laptop/tablet crossover and just what we were after.
Lovely screen. It is really fast and seems to cope with everything well. Great for browsing, watching films and working in the Cloud etc. It charges very fast, seems well made with a great keyboard. I use it in all modes {tablet, tented etc}.
I dropped one star because one of the hinges wasn’t straight but seems to operate OK. I did contact Amazon via their customer chat, but waited for so long for a human to help me {you have to go through the robot first} that I gave up. I thought that as the hinge works ok, I will keep the Chromebook as it is probably just cosmetic.
I paid 849 at the end of April, so less than a month ago. Just seeing the same chromebook for 798.99 on the curry website. Should have waited… .
Not had this product long. We’ve come from an Asus and a iPad so its a bit different. I do have to say that so far it’s everything we want and need. A wee bit of learning to overcome as it’s chrome OS but that’s not a mountain.
The stylus is super super useful for teaching my students. This has all the bells and whistles of the best laptops: normal usb, sd card expansion, type c charging, touchscreen, backlit keys, decent trackpad and reasonable battery life.
Touchscreen and display is better than all the other chromebooks I’ve used and even laptops (except maybe like a 4k xps). so it’s comfortable to watch things.
nonetheless, does take a while getting use to a taller screen, and i think i prefer a shorter one for watching, which would also make it easier to drop on a cluttered desk.
battery realistically lasts me half a day i think, but in all fairness i always have it plugged in somewhere.
Exceeded expectation. Left PC’s years ago and went Mac. Still like Mac’s well enough but they are just way way too expensive these days. This machine does everything (and more) that I need/want and for an awful lot less than Mac prices.
I upgraded for a 3 year old, higher end (at the time) 15″ HP Pavilion to this Spin 13 Chromebook. Pictures are to show the difference if you’re thinking of making a similar upgrade.
I always spend a stupid amount of time scrolling through the options for the right product and when it came to a laptop, that time was even more stupid. So to save someone else some time, here was the conclusion I came to:
Nowadays most of the stuff we do is web based, this is my first chromebook after 20+ years of Microsoft and if you’re worried about not being able to do everything, dont be. Unless you’re job or studies is very specific and requires expensive bespoke software, a chromebook is going to work just fine.
I bought this laptop on Prime Day with a good discount for 500 (2019). I think that was about right. However at normal price at time of review, I reccomend getting the ASUS 434 as best overall or ASUS 302 for best value for money.
Dont get me wrong, this Acer Spin 13 is fantastuc but expensive. The deal breaker for me ultimately was this chromebooks ‘active pen’ support, where the ASUS models only support ‘capacitive pen’. As I understand it, the difference is a capacitive pen is just like using a small finger and offers nothing better than using your finger. Active means you can apply pressure and is far more like actually writing – and you can rest your palm on the screen while you write without it getting confused. Essential if you want to write more than one sentence.
Huge power in a Chromebook isn’t necessary but good power makes all the difference. I often have 50 browser tabs open and with a low powered chromebook you would start to get an annoying slowdown after 20. Either ASUS laptop would probably perform just as well but with this laptop I feel I have enough power for this laptop to perform well long term – I dont want to buy another for a few years.
Also the battery does last all day and i would i am an above average user in terms of time and demand put on the machine. The battery ran out abruptly when I was using it and I realised it was because I had forgotten to charge it for a day and a half. That’s another bonus of the high CPU specs – the new 8th generation Intel chips introduce more power saving through efficiency in processing. A different world to the HP I had to charge every 3-4 hours.
In conclusion, are you going to regret buying this? I dont think so, it’s awesome metal build quality, compact size, amazing battery life, active pen support and lighting fast performance make this laptop i think future proof for the next couple of years.
Will you regret buying a chromebook? I haven’t, there will be the occasional annoyance, like a printer I tried to use didnt have a driver I could download for chrome. But are closing this gap with windows in terms of compatability so well now I think now is a good time to make the jump.
Windows feels like a great big hulking mess in comparison – this chromebook snaps though things, it’s only as slow as you click. Windows is like one of those swiss army knives that has every tool imaginable in it. Sure you will always have the tool you need for any possible situation, but how often do you need a cigar cutter? How often do you need a specific hook for threading a fishing rod? I dont know about you but I’d rather a sleek and efficient swiss army knife – good sharp knife that I will use everyday. I’ll just skip the cigars.
Go for this if the price is acceptable to you. Go for one of the ASUS if not. If the price has dropped since my review – this one will probably last longer specs wise
