We have a temporary pond while the garden is being rearranged. The original pond needed no help and was clear and supported fish, frogs and other water insects. The move however was not successful and the pond became greener and greener until the fish were no longer visible.
I saw this had good reviews so opted for the kit. At first I was disappointed, green water was still exiting the filter. I reduced the amount of water in the pond and within two days there were signs it was clearing. By day 5 the pond is beautifully clear and the fish swimming with smiles on their faces.
The filter is in a temporary position until we get the new pond dug, but so far so good.
Thank you.
Not yet installed in pond yet but seems a lot more complicated that at first thought. Will have to see how it goes on with time.
brought one of these four weeks ago to improve filtration .My pond was brown really brown but now crystal clear Brilliant bit of ki
Bought to replace different make I’ve had for 3 years. Straightforward replacement as connections are the same size/thread. Yet to do a “clean” using the easy clean process as mentioned to be done every 2 weeks. Higher Watts UV bulb helping to clear water clarity. Yet to find any dislikes.
We purchased this Filter for our garden fish pond and within less than a week we can now see the bottom of our pond again.
Customer service were excellent in sorting a query we had.
We are really happy with our purchase and would recommend it. Speedy delivery and value for money, compared with similar filters on the market.
Absolutely surprised and delighted to see how clear my utterly dark green pond turned after just a few days of running the pump and filter. We inherited the pond with a new house and had never seen the fish!
Have used the filter cleaning handle, so easy!
It’s hidden behind the grasses on pond edge. Basically it’s not a pretty device but is absolutely superb in how it maintains crystal clear water in our pond. The pump in the pond..stays there. This filter..outside the.pond..switch dial/ wind handle/ empty green water into a bucket
.until runs clear/ switch dial. Switch it all back on. Fantastic product. value for money.
I love this uv filter. Very easy to setup water is clear and so easy to clean. Only issue is the algea on the waterfall that is pumped through filter. It’s not filter fault the water is clear coming through. I do weekly filter clean which takes only a few minutes as. You only need to open the valve and turn the lever to get rid of the dirt. Never reopened since purchasing in May. Will do a full clean in spring. My pond is only 400litre
Only had it in place for two days so my pond hasn’t had time to clear yet.Installation was simple and cleaning is easy. Only one small niggle as I’ve positioned the waste hose under a bush and cannot see the water when it clears supplying a clear tail the same as the inlet would make the job easier.
As a filter it works well, however the UV light in this unit failed after a couple of months, and I have since had to put a separate UV light in between theis filter and my pump.
* Updated * All pond Solutions reached out, and after a couple of emails back and forth, sent a replacement bulb and light unit. It was an easy swap out and I am happy to report it is all working again. I have adjusted my rating due to their very helpful customer services.
Thank you Allpond Solutions.
I have recently built a new small pond in my garden about 400lts. I have four small carp and some plants. The pond became cloudy after a few weeks and eventually bit of a pea soup. I had a pond pump with a foam filter that became clogged after a few days and did not have any effect on clearing the water. I purchased the PFC 3000 filter in the hope it would clear the pond. I was very pleased with the quality of the product and the ease of installation. The results were impressive, it took several days to clear my pond and now it is keeping it crystal clear. I would strongly recommend this product to any one wanting crystal clear water in there pond.
Couple of things: you need to buy a pump with this separate and hose clips to pin the hose to both connections on the filter and the one on the pump. At least 3 get a multipack like I did. You’ll need flexi hose and keep some spare hose for the outlet so you can spray far away from the pond.
The photo is on the day of install and the video is 4 weeks later. I inherited this pond and two filters from the 80s when I bought this house which I tried my best to get working again but they costed a bomb and didn’t do the job. This cut my energy bills in half and has eliminated the green in 4 weeks.
I will wait till 6 for a first clean so good bacteria has a chance to build but it looks simple enough to do.
Maintenance wise I will just use the crank so year round and will replace the bulb and do the pull apart clean every year and will come back and update this post if I have any issues.
I know this may seem obvious but as I’ve said hose and pump need to be bought separately so that means two power supplies not one! I’ve wired up a double socket that I can use the jet wash in etc or lawnmower.
I had one that failed after three years due to quartz tube leaking and burning out the lamp transformer. When I stripped it down I found the quartz tube was not tight. I bought the same filter again as it works well and I thought I would check it before installing it, hey presto, brand new and the quartz tube was loose!
I purchased this kit in 2017. It runs a water feature consisting of two small ponds at different levels in the garden, linked by a small brook. Overall the whole kit performed well. The pump has been running 24 hours a day 7 days a week for 4 years and hasnt missed a beat. Its begining to wear out now I think but thats not surprising considering how much use its had. The filter has also worked well however I have had a few problems with it. The handle used to turn the foam filters for cleaning broke in the first year where it fits onto the top of the body of the filter. Managed to repair it with epoxy resin and a small pipe clamp to hold everything in place and it worked fine for the next 3 years.
I have replaced the UV lamps a couple of times and this was a little awkward and I found the fittings inside the lamp holder that hold the bulb in place had disintegrated after about 2 or 3 years of use (possibly from exposure to UV light).
I opened up the unit today for cleaning and found that the internal support that holds the rotating foam filters had broken and the foam filters themselves were damaged. The filter was however still working.
The overall condition of the filter now means it has to be replaced. 4 1/2 years doesnt seem too bad for a life span.
Overall I was moderately happy with the filter. It was easy to clean by turning the handle every couple of weeks and it worked well at keeping the water clean and the fish seem happy. Even had some fish breeding in the pond!
My thoughts are that its well designed and works quite well but its not that well made. Materials used to make this unit are only just strong enough and the broken rotating cleaning handle could have put the whole unit out of commission if I hadnt found a way to fix it. By being careful with it and repairing where possible it has survived and done its job. A bit more care in manufacturing and use of better and stronger materials would make a huge difference.
One final point is that the filter is quite noisy, it gurgles quite a lot possibly due to air locks in the system. I was able to reduce this by tilting the filter to remove air from the system but it comes back quite quickly. Might be something specific to my particular setup but the gurgling can be quite annoying on a quite sunny day when sitting by the pond.
Im now having to replace the filter and the pump. Would I buy the same units again? Yes for the pump as its worked well and does the job. No for the filter as its just not well enough made and not strong enough for its purpose. If your comfortable doing repairs and keeping everything maintained then its probably OK but to me it feels that an average user who doesnt want to jury rig repairs might well find it doesnt last much longer than 18 months or so
We have suffered from a dirty, green or cloudy fish pond for years. Have tried all sorts of treatments including “pond balance”, “greenaway” and various similar products. Our pond is around 1000 gallons and is raised and we had been advised that the main reasons for our problems is that being raised, the water temperature remains high, particularly in the spring, summer and autumn, encouraging the growth of algae and blanket weed. We have always used a tank type gravity water filter. we have tried cleaning regularly or not cleaning for months, to encourage the algae munching bugs to breed, all without any lasting effect. The only time the pond would be clear would be for a couple of days after a full clean out and then the problems would start again. Our fish remain healthy but constant breeding has also lead to over stocking, which makes the problem of dirty water even worse.
THEN found the All Pond Solutions Filter and Pump range. Took a chance on spending yet more money on a new kit. The PFC-12000 model for 212. A lot of money but a last chance for the pond. Once a week for the first 3 weeks I cleared out the pump and flushed the filter box. All done in 20 minutes!! Great! The 4th week I only cleaned the pump. The 5th week I cleaned both pump and filter. Even after the 1st week there were signs that the water was clearing and by the 3rd week the water was clear enough to see to the bottom of the pond (2.5 feet). Now, after 6 weeks the water is CRYSTAL CLEAR. Wish we had found this filter years ago. The pond is still over stocked, which we have to remedy but now we can see all the fish clearly. Cannot recommend highly enough.
We have bought spare filters and UV lamp as we don’t know how soon we will have to change these. particularly the filters as the originals have had to clear a lot of very dirty water. we will see. But so far worth every penny.
after reading the review I decided to buy one, got to say I was impressed as after 3 days i could start to see the difference and after 7 days my pond turned Chrystal clear, works really well and not much noise, easy to clean the only minus with this product was the installation, the pump comes without any electric plugs so had to go and buy 2 plugs before be able to make it work, also one thing I found really annoying was the connection pipe, too big for the attachment it took me a while before managing to stop any licking, but overall once sorted this pump work in the same way a more expensive pump work.
I built a new 500 litre pond, added 5 gold fish with a water fall pump. Within a week water started going green. Obviously the pump filter wasn’t effective. Shopped and found this on Amazon. Next day delivery. Instructions were not great for someone who is good with DIY. However, installed within an hour to realise that there was no noise from the filter when turned on. I am wondering is the filter working or not? For those who purchase this item- it does not make any noise as the pump does the work of getting the water in and out. You will notice a little blue light which is the UV. Within two days the water was clear but the surface and walls still had a green tinge. I purchased Blagdon green away for ponds and added the required dose and left it for another 3 days. Started to see very clear water. The week end, I gave the pond a little scrub and changed 10% water with weekly Blagdon treatment with the filter on 24/7 and the pond is crystal clear. Mind you I am a noob to ponds. Would highly recommend the filter for a small medium size pond.
During installation discovered that the fittings for the filter were 3/4inch whereas pipe supplied within the kit the was 1 inch. it looks like the kit was sent with the wrong/missing fittings at the write up suggested that 3/4 – 1inch fittings would be supplied. Managed to get the 1inch pipe bodged onto the 3/4inch fittings with out any leaks after a few attempts. I am still not comfortable that this will hold for ever. However goods new after just 3 days pond is crystal clear. All Pond solutions great product just need to make sure the fittings and pipe are compatible. I would have scored 5 stars all round if it wasn’t for this.
It’s the first time I’ve used a pump and filter kit on this scale. I have a 3500 litre pond and believe this PFC 5000 pump and filter kit to be sufficient for my needs. The operating instructions are a wee bit basic, but I suppose for anyone who is familiar with this type of set up will find it easy to work out…. Up to now it appears to be working well. I have a raised walled pond with around a 1,1/2 mtr lift to a waterfall that produces a good flow of water. The filter is sat next to the pond and the pump itself has been placed on a raised support of bricks about 6″ off the pond floor. The pond water is very clear up to now, however I did have a major clean out before I ran the system. I’ve found the 5 mtr hose supplied to be barely long enough for my own particular set up, so had to purchase a further 5 mtr role to be comfortable…. Up to now find this to be a good decision, but time will tell if I’ve made the right choice!?
This is great. Good, solid plastics.
Our pond was green with absolutely no visibility through the water. I bought this filter and the matching pump and plugged them in. It took a week or so before we started to see any results. Even from day one we could see the filter working, as diverting the outlet hose and winding the handle delivered a stinking bucket of mud. Another review says that the foams get clogged easily which stops them being turned by the paddle and so they don’t clean, but I haven’t found this. After 2 weeks and the pond really starting to sort out I took the lid off to clean the foams and the bottom one was resisting turning but I think this was more to do with it sitting on the balls in the bottom of the bucket. The filter continues to give me a lovely brown bucket of fertiliser every time I turn the handle.
We’re 6 weeks in now and our pond water has never been so clear. So much so that we realised we have twice the number of fish we thought we had. It’s a good 3 feet deep in the middle with a black liner and on a sunny day you can count the fish at the bottom, even the black ones. We’re really pleased with this filter.
The only problem is that now the fish are so visible we need to work something out to keep the heron away.
My main reason for buying this was to avoid the fortnightly job of cleaning dirty stinking filters. I should have red the details a bit more closely because while the model is fine for a 12000 litre pond it is only adequate if there are no fish in the pond. I have a dozen Koi, most of which are over two foot long so in the month I have had it there has been only a marginal improvement. I am not worried because the thought of not having to clear the filters overweighs that. Hopefully, as Autumn approaches I will see an improvement. The instructions could be a bit clearer. Minimum of six feet from the pond should really say six foot from the pump. My filter is by the side of the pond but eight foot from the pump. Also there is no mention of the fact that the filters need to be put back exactly as they came out, if you get one upside down it doesn’t fit in the one above it. No mention of the little orange thingy that should pop up when the filters need cleaning. My one is full of pond muck from day one and I doubt if I will be able to see it when it pops up. Apart from these minor issues the filter is good, if only for the self cleaning facility. At present I am using the handle every other day and after taking the thing apart to see how it worked the inside was relatively clean.
Something that’s just occurred, there are no instructions as to how you change the UV bulb, that’s not good.
Where do I start:
1/ The pump is powerful and the water fall as a result is flowing beautifully. it comes with 10m wire. has a convenient handle to lift it from the pond. it is 3.5kg so its weight holds it down and no need like lighter pumps to tie it down to something. and I hope it will last a few years because it is a good make. it comes with all the connections even the inflow has a connector.
2/ the pressure filter is much bigger than I thought. But that means a better filter. Its made from very good quality material. it comes with all the connections. the handle for the filter is removable. there was a comment about the handle splitting. I don’t really mind that, I have a tool box with socket type wrench to use. there is a filter indicator on this model, I really encourage paying more and getting this one. all the connections come with it. it has a 5m cable. kind of defeats the purpose when you have 10m on the pump, I dont mind because I got the electric supply close to both of them. UV light working perfectly. Some reviews commented on having to replace it. ell, if you use it and it goes in the first few days, unlucky. I keep an eye on it.
3/ The best this is the 10m hose (good bore size that made my old pump and tiny hose look like a bicycle in a F1 race!). the clips are the best kind you could get.
4/ this Package contains everything you need and it is still 100-200 cheaper than the shops I visited. It comes with instruction, little but straightforward. All fitting instructions are on youtube anyway, it was so easy ,I put my own video on youtube, link below.
one bad point: the pump does not come with pre pump sponge. Of course I was not expecting that, equally I did not expect the drawing flow to be so powerful that it sucked some of the tadpoles in to the filter to meet their maker. I had to fit a pre pump sponge, I know it defeats the purpose as it will not pull in solid material that this pump can handle extremely well. but that will be short lived till the tadpoles have matured. My pond is a natural pond (frogs/newts, dragonflies/beetles etc) and not for fish. this pump will be more suited for fish, but am very pleased with it to use as it is with a pre pump sponge (around 10) that I will clean every so often. Since this is my first year with a working pond that I repaired last year, I may well get fish letter in the summer, so I am prepared.
Good points : all mentioned above, but the best is, the water actually started to clear on day 4! by the weeknd it will be complete!
This may look like an expensive thing to buy, but after buying two little pumps (each 30 and more) and asking for a quote from the local pond man ( the same system by another maker plus fitting came up to 680) trust me on this, if you are a beginner, this package is made for you. I am not an expert but I have done this and I know it works. see the youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaS6h85ZNhE.
PS: for pond repair, see my Amazon material reviews, I repaired my pond with this tape and its still going solid a year later. This a fun project.
O M G I was considering getting rid of my pond, and all my fish because i was struggling with cleaning my previous filter system, the water would turn green after a week or two, i purchased the PFC 8000 and fitted it all together which was very simple. The water in my pond was a pea green colour and i could only see my fish when they surfaced to feed, i turned the PFC 8000 on and let it run over night, by morning i noticed the waters clarity had changed to my amazement. After the second day and night i could see my fish about 1.5 feet down. I cleaned the PFC 8000 filters as per instruction of the manufacturer which took me only 5 minutes with minimum effort, the water colour what came out of the filters was a very deep deep green i let it flow for 2 minutes whilst turning the sponge cleaning handle with considerable ease and it cleared to the colour of the pond water as quick as that, I cant believe it was so simple. Now after 4 days i can see the bottom of my pond 3 feet, the fish love the power of the water flow coming from the pump and they are now a lot more lively. i have now decided keeping the pond and fish thanks to the simplicity of use, and excellent performance of the PFC 8000 Many Thanks.
