My daughter wished to borrow my shredder. I knew that would be the last I saw of it and ordered this one.
Some I gave had before tended to ‘snagg’ paper whereby I was being over enthusiastic or something.
This one is ideal for my current needs.
Have been using this for a few months, I used to burn sensitive papers but can’t do that now so this lives under the desk ready for action – just feed a few sheets at a time in and it automatically reduces them to little shreds. Not really up to doing lots of big documents, it’s a domestic tool, but does a good job, has been entirely reliable. Lubricate the blades occasionally with vegetable oil.
Just four stars. I’d destroys discs but it struggles. I don’t think it is made strong enough or is powerful enough to last long. Maybe just for the occasional CD.
Also, as the unit destroys CDs it sometimes spits out tiny pieces of CD – so wear eye protection.
Its an effective home Cross cut shredder.
It doesn’t chuck paper dust everywhere like the previous one we had which was a wire mesh basket (different model / different brand).
Very good to shred personal details at home.
I have been using this to shred a big pile of papers. It seems sturdy and hasn’t got stuck BUT it overheats every few minutes (the red warning light comes on) and you have to leave it for half hour.
Keep to the 6 sheet limit and give it a rest fairly regularly or it will overheat (and stop for 10 minutes).
But really, it seems fairly robust. Went through about 600 sheets, overheated 3 times, didn’t clog once. My previous experience of a shredder from a highstreet store (that rhymes with Rynams) wasn’t great and full of clogging and unclogging. So this is a refreshing surprise.

– the shreds are quite wide so not a high security level if that’s what you need
Good size, very quiet and does a very good job. It would be better if it was a cross shredder as well (only shreds in long (one direction) strips. Apart from that – excellent.
This is by far and away the best shredder I’ve had. I tend to go through a few of them (!)_ doing things like putting too much paper in etc. The last one, however stopped working when I put something with a sticky label on it in. This one had great reviews so I went for it based on that. Love it so far. Hopefully I won’t wreck this one!
The only slight negatives I can think of are – it’s a bit heavy to move about (noteworthy but not a problem in itself), the plastic doesn’t scream high quality (but at the same time, to be fair, the construction doesn’t seem flimsy and it was less than 30!). Finally, it’s easy when turning it off (via the switch on the top) to trigger the reverse function – which isn’t very well thought out. Overall though – excellent.
So, having read the write up for this Amazon Basics shredder and read the reviews, I decided to order one.
It is nothing short of brilliant because:
1. It does shred the number of pages it says it can.
2. It does NOT overheat quickly and cut out.
3. It is brilliantly easy to use and empty and with forward and reverse on the motor as well as ‘cut position’ and ‘off’, it allows you to easily unclog the cutting head.
I have used this a lot and at times multi document shredded and this took it all on with no issue.
I have recommended this to a lot of people so far because who would have thought this Amazon Basics Shredder beat all of the ‘big brand’ shredders and beat them hands down.
I HIGHLY recommend this shredder to all who read this [and PS: I left it a year before leaving this review too!!]
I liked the size as it fits well in my office. Works well for home use.
Appears robust with a spacious capacity. It’s considerably quieter than my previous shredder which sounded as if it was angrily chewing it’s paper. This one just sounds efficiently sharp Cross shredding is brilliant. I recommend

I love this shredder, it’s very quiet & living in a flat that’s a must, holds plenty, easy to empty, but, it’s heavy for me with arthritis in my hands so lift with care. Great product. Downside, it’s not a cross cut.
Bought this for my home office. Good size and easy to put together. It’s a tad bit noisy, but nothing too noticeable.
You have to watch how much you feed in at once or it will jam. i found that more than three sheets together and it struggled or jammed . but it was ok for home use once i got rid of my back log
Does the job pretty rapid, hasn’t jammed yet, wish I would have bought sooner rather than clinging on to my dinosaur shredder.
We’ve being searching for shredder for ages that can handle more than a few pages before it overheats. This ‘up to 8 page’ shredder from Amazon has exceeded our expectations. We have shredded a full bin bag full of documents in an afternoon. We followed the advice and did 30 mins and then gave it a rest for an hour & did nother 30 minutes. Brilliant piece of kit and excellent value.

Inexpensive for students work.
Will shred a reasonable amount of paper sheets, but easily cuts out if you have more than 10 sheets at a time.
This one shredded a large amount of paper without any problem. It didn’t stop at all, and didn’t overheat.
It is small and light, quite noisy, but did the job very well.
OK, I’ve only had it a couple of days, but so far so good.
This is fine for what it is designed to do; which is the odd bit of shredding. If you read the description thoroughly you will see that you use it for a couple of minutes from time to time. This is NOT an office shredder. For the price and intended use it is excellent.
It’s good for the price but feel the on/off reverse/forward switch is not very robust so use gently, otherwise very pleased with it.
I find this quite loud, and actually smaller than i prefer but also at the same time, it is intended to shred and it does so, my only issue is why not have a push button to turn in on option, i usually have a single page or two, but the slide switch seems a lot of actions for a single page,
The lift off head to empty is annoying but at this price i cant really complain, it just isn’t as nice the one i had previously from Amazon Basic, the they no longer produce.
Its worked great for me in a home use setting.
Of course im human and will sometimes over feed it in thickness but it deals with this great. So used in accordance with instructions its brilliant.
Ive had it running within its 30mintue continuous run time and it didnt show any signs of worry.
The bin is a good size and simple to detach for emptying also sometimes a jolt can cause spillage if too full. (I guess user error)
Its a good over all size.
The cut paper is perfect. No issues so far.
I have the oil and paper for maintenance as and when needed. Not yet used these.
The cd tray does get in the way when the paper bin is filling up, but thats a super minor thing and of course its detachable too. So if you dont intend on using that just remove it. Some of the plastic holders for that piece did scratch my hands when installing but again not a big problem.
The blades are tucked out of the way as one would expect. Its safe and easy to use.
I think the operation noise is reasonable. Its heard in other rooms in my house (thin walls) but run time is short and in frequent.
Cant complain so far. Happy with this purchase and would recommend this model.
The packaging, and the despatch and delivery service were excellent. The user instructions were easy to understand. The 5-6 sheet Cross-Cut shredder is quiet and works perfectly. I am extremely pleased with it. The shredder deals with my home-office shredding requirements very effectively.
I am not at all happy with the ordering process though. Yet again, even though I did not want Amazon Prime membership with its monthly charge, and did not apply for membership, I received an email welcoming me to Amazon Prime ! The ordering process should be simplified and presented in such a way that anyone ordering goods via Amazon is given clear and easily found and identifiable tick-box options for Amazon-Prime membership i.e. Yes or No.
