Amazon Basics – Box of 6 Filter Carafe Cartridges – Suitable
Amazon Basics – Box of 6 Filter Carafe Cartridges – Suitable for Brita Maxtra Carafes, but not Maxtra+
Made from coconut shell
The cartridge is filled with activated carbon from coconut shells. As with any natural product, the size of the charcoal particles may vary slightly. The smaller the carbon particles, the larger the surface area, and therefore also the better the filtration performance. However, fine carbon dust can be deposited in the water. These particles have no negative health effects. When absorbed, they leave the human body naturally and in unchanged form. To eliminate this purely aesthetic impairment, if necessary, you can simply pour away the remaining water in the container.

I started using Brita filters when I lived in central London in an old block of flats and the water was hard and not as tasty as I was used to. I also had a worktop coffee maker and didn’t want it or the kettle to fur up quite so often. I tried the Amazon Basics just to see if there was a difference compared to the Brita originals, and was delighted to find out that, if anything, the Amazon ones are better and certainly a lot cheaper. They are much easier to replace, and I no longer break fingernails like I used to with the Brita brand. Recommended.
These fit easily into our Brita Style jug and the filtered water tastes no different to when the Brita filters are used. We’ve had our Brita Style jug for a few years and it doesn’t have the new PerfectFit system. These are good filters, at a good price, recommended.
Simply a winner. Delivered next day. Does the job, water actually tastes better, and the price is awesome. Less than half the cost of equivelent Br*ta filters. You cannot go wrong with these
Use the filters to reduce limescale build up in kettles due to hardwater area, so far these seem to work as well as the more expensive variants.
Great saving on these which can be used in Brita devices – does exactly what it says it will do – will keep buying these when I need them again.
These fit our britta kettle, last just as long as name brands and cheaper than them too- very happy repeat customers.
I paid for pack of 3 and only 2 came, I buy these regular and they come in a box with Amazon Basics 3 filters. I got 2 in an envelope. So not best pleased,
E Burto
Oh what a palaver trying to correctly install these filters. After nearly an hour of fitting, forced removing, jamming in even tighter and almost shattering my jug trying to remove it for the sixth time, I finally looked at previous reviews and thankfully found the answer. Remove the Brita ‘perfect fit’ valve and Hey Presto it works perfectly fine.
If you have a hard water area, and are constantly descaling your kettle, then I recommend these, water taste better once through these filters, hassel free shopping experience and I can recommend this company
Works just as well as the official Brita filters, I live in a very hard water area and these filters last just as long as the Brita ones for a much cheaper price
Great little water filters , but they do not work with brita maxtra, only brita maxtra+ in my experience
A direct replacement for the more expensive Brita filters. They don’t last quite as long before scale starts to form in the kettle but you get what you pay for I guess.
Was worried about the other reviews but I’ve not had any problems with them. Didn’t leave any black bits in the water that I can tell and filters pretty quickly.
These are much cheaper than the brita filters and I would buy them again.
Fitting perfectly into the jug, but no water gets through – well about 1 drop per 15 seconds. Unfortunately I can’t afford to wait for 24 hours for the water to be filtered.
After further research, became apparent I didn’t have the brita maxtra+ version of the jug.
So probably my fault.
While the cartridges physically fit into my brita jug, water wouldn’t come out the bottom of the upper chamber because on the bottom of the official brita cartridges there is a curved groove in the middle cylinder section to fit a valve in the jug. The amazon cartridges did not have this curved section of plastic so no water could flow, but online guides suggested popping out this valve (called a PerfectFit valve). After doing this the amazon filters work. They seem to be OK water quality-wise vs the Brita one that came with the jug.
Although these seem to be just as good as the Brita ones, I won’t be buying anymore simply for the fact that I can’t get them out of the jug. If you have fingers of steel go for it. I’m going back to the Brita ones with the handy little hook.
Fits my old Maxtra jug perfectly. My feedback on negative reviews: if you actually read and follow the (detailed) instructions the product works exactly the same as the more expensive genuine Maxtra cartridges. The speed of the filtration process appears exactly the same to me as the genuine cartridges. I discarded 2 jugs worth of water as recommend and have seen no floating deposits or anything else except pure clear water. The genuine cartridges have a very fine mesh secured to the inside of the top to keep the filter product inside the cartridge and zooming in on the image it was not clear if these cartridges have the mesh – they do. Finally, the cartridges are steam cleaned during manufacture for hygiene reasons and may be slightly damp on opening – this is normal.
We live in the East End and frankly our water tastes horrible, although my point of comparison is the tap water in Finland. We do find that after three weeks the filter is largely finished and the quality of the new water improves significantly when replacing the filter, but the price of the 6-pack is competitive this still works out to be value, but I’m worried that I was able to buy these for 29.76 in July 2021 and in November 2021 the price has shot up 13% to 33.73.
When I bought this I was skeptical of the fit, taste and quality (long life) of these filter cartridges. I have been using this for a few months now and I’m very impressed by the way it manages to blend into the Maxtra jug just like a Brita filter cartridge would. I do not really see a need for myself to buy the Brita ones when this delivers the same quality at a reasonable price.
The main reason I use the water filter is to get the taste of spring water and I can really a clear difference in the taste of tap water and the ones that are filtered using the jug. I usually recycle the cartridge once a month and it retains the same taste throughout and does not degrade in quality based on normal use.
Our kettle used to fir up within a week of a deep clean. Since using these Brita Maxtra substitutes the floor of the kettle has stayed clear for 3 weeks (edit: now after many months there’s just a slight covering of limescale). Dropped a star as they are still quite expensive and there appears to be no manufacturer-led recycling opportunity in place.
Edit: after over 6 months trialling we’ve decided to stay with this method of water filtering. No more buying bottled water. One cartridge per month and I’m starting to think about long term recycling. Mysteriously there’s a triangle recycling symbol on these cartridges but I know they don’t go into the plastics recycling bin. I know that Brita operates a proper recycling scheme with certain retailers, alas not my local Waitrose. Going to email Waitrose asking if they’ll join the scheme. If the were to I’d consider returning to the Brita brand for a couple of quid extra per pack of 6. Amazon itself could also consider beginning some sort of ‘return path’ collection of recycling for Amazon bought consumables.
I used to regularly buy the original Brita filters, but when I went to order replacement ones recently this AmazonBasics branded product appeared in my search and I decided to give it a whirl. It fits fine into my 2 Maxtra Jugs and it does its filtering job just fine. As these are made in Switzerland I’m also pretty confident they are not adding any contamination to my water because of poor manufacturing processes. The reason these only get 4 stars is that they don’t have the removal ring of the originals so I can see that it’s going to be a bit of a pain to pry them back out of the jug when the time comes.
Short review: these are an effective and economical alternative to Brita. I’ve been using brita filters for years and tried these on a whim. They’re just as good and 3x cheaper.
Longer review: as I said above I’ve been using brita cartridges for years, these are an effective alternative for them that will save you a lot of money in the long run (especially if you subscribe and save). I use them as our tap water is extremely limey and lines cups and kettles with limescale. These work very well for preventing it and water tastes great when filtered! The only downside to using these instead of brita ones is that brita gave collection points in boots stores where you can recycle they’re cartridges. I wish amazon would support that! In summary if you have a brita product these are a perfect and snug fit, filter water just as well but are much cheaper. Definitely try these!
