This is a pretty powerful cordless drill with hammer action. The ratcheting chuck works far better than a standard chuck, as it doesn’t lose it’s grip on the drill or screwdriver bit.
The two speeds, plus the trigger pressure selection are perfectly good, as is the hammer facility.
The drill does spark a bit, since it’s a brushed motor, especially with a freshly charged battery at 20 volts, as the battery drops to 18 volts it’s not too bad. However, the batteries have excellent run time and charge quickly.
Get some decent drill bits, especially for masonry and this drill won’t let you down.
This is an amazing product i bought it as a spare in the house while i use my branded make in work. but its been a so good uve been using it instead charges quick its powerful and batteries last long time i also bought the drill as well well impressed
Only issue I found is that the chuck tends to let the drill come loose rather easily. Otherwise it’s serving me well. Price seems excellent. Sits in the space between an electric screwdriver and a full-blown hammer drill.
We have a big brand drill and to be fair, it is better in some ways than this amazon branded one, but is is tjat much better? Jurys out. Only time will tell, but so far, this seems pretty good.
It’s a decent price (62 at time of review) and had most of the features and benefits of out big branded one. In terms of basic diy jobs, it’s coped well and no complaints. There’s not been anyjobs that it can’t handle, but if you tried to drill into something challenging, like lintels, I can imagine that could test this. (As much as I want to do a full test, I’m not drilling into a lintel unnecessarily!!)
I’ll update if I get a job that challenges my big branded one (it has struggled with some jobs im the past) that this one copes with!!!
Amazon Brand Denali by SKIL 18 V (20 V Max) Hammer Drill Kit, Includes 2 x 2.0 Ah Lithium Batteries and Charger
This cordless drill is really good value in my opinion and seems very well made to me. It comes with 2 x 20V 2.0 Ah Lithium batteries, a charger with charge indicator, hanging hook and one reversible screwdriver bit.
In use, its compact size means it was really nice to handle and the keyless i/2 inch chuck in operation was very smooth. It was also keyless as a lot of modern drill chucks are. The reverse and mode change switches were a tad hard to operate, but they may well loosen up with use and it’s better to have them harder to change so they do not get knocked in use.
Speeds range from 0 — 1600 rpm variable, depending on the drill setting. It had no trouble drilling through a test on a paving slab and performed better than my old Ryobi cordless hammer drill. It sparks a bit inside the casing, but this is normal and is just the motor brushes running over the commutator ring as it spins.
The two things I don’t like, but may not be an issue for you is there is no case or bag with it and the drill handle itself feels a bit on the scratchy plastic side of things rather than rubbery and good to hold, but these are minor issues.
In all and for the price, I was quite impressed. It would be a 5 star review if the handle had a better material covering and it came with a case to keep everything together.
PS – Apologies in advance for the dogs barking in my video of the drill, they did not like it but I did
A brand I’ve not heard about but being that not an issue.
It’s part of the amazon range of products that aren’t bad at all. Seems you can have a high value item such as a drill and yet it not be a stupid price therefore making it affordable. Yet without cutting down on quality.
The only reason for this having a four star is that the hammer part of the drill doesn’t always work did at first when tried then failed. Took some messing around with until it got to be there again.
No carry case with it but a mounting bit for attaching to shelf or wherever for storage which to me I think a good idea. Maybe as a way of cutting down on costs when making it which you can’t really complain about. With it having a bit that we’ve attached to the shelf means it’s hanging up ready to be found easily. Charging time good and it seems to keep its charge well.
Time is going to be the thing with this as I’m comparing it to a store brand bought a while back that finally gave up. If this is anything as good as that in a years time will be pleased.
Only had a couple of light jobs for it right now. Yet in a few weeks time need it for putting posts and fencing together so that will give it a real proper work out.
All the bits seem like quality made ones and for the price compared to the big boys out there a real good one.
Amazon Brand Denali by Skil.
This is a well manufactured 20v cordless drill kit. The brand is Denali, which isn’t a brand I had heard about previously. The Denali brand is actually owned by Amazon. Like most of the other Amazon owned brands the quality and performance of the drill is excellent. I believe the power tools themselves are actually produced by Skil, which is an excellent trusted brand.
The power tool market is fairly crowded, with lots of big names to compete with. Therefore the tool(s) need to deliver and keep on delivering. I was pleased to see that the all important replacement batteries can be purchased separately. Using the drill is very straightforward. The batteries hold a decent charge and give a good run time. I was especially pleased to see the batteries and charger are compatible with the PWRCORE 20 range from Skil. This is a real bonus if you have existing Skil cordless tools in your tool box.
My only real gripe is you don’t get a tool case or bag of any kind to store the kit in. This makes it a little awkward taking the drill out and about with you.
