The Aokeo AK-1i Gaming Microphone isn’t going to set the world alight in terms of quality but it’s ideal for general online gaming or if you’re starting out in the world of streaming.
It’s plug and play so easy to set up on PC and it has a groovy style which is eye catching, perfect for streaming channels then. The sound quality is clear but certainly not as good as more expensive microphones with not as much background noise cancelling but it does the job well for the price.
If anyone is looking for a cheap mic to stream do YouTube or to talk to people this works like a dream the only downside thing is that it doesn’t work with Xbox. But this works with PS4/PS5/PC/PHONE.
This is a good, cheaper alternative to other expensive gaming mics (note how gaming was spelt incorrectly on the packaging in the photo). The sound quality seems fine, nothing too amazing, and it’s cool how it lights up. I just wish there was a button or an option to turn off the lights for when I didn’t feel like it. The coloured lights that look like volume levels that wrap around the mic are stationary, they don’t move up and down when you talk, it’s just the design of the mic. I also like how you can angle the mic any way that you like, it’s on a ball-joint at the base so you can just swivel it to point in any direction, and you can turn the dial on the front to adjust the sensitivity of your mic. Overall, a pretty basic starter mic that has good enough sound quality that I’d say is a great starter mic for anyone getting into gaming.
I think this is an okay condenser microphone, but I have enountered a couple of issues with it. I’m using this on a Mac and I have two problems.
Firstly the headphone socket doesn’t appear to work properly. I don’t hear myself speaking through it and also I have to wiggle the plug in the socket to be able to hear any sound output (video, music). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
The other issue I have is that I have to turn the Input Volume up to almost maximum on both the microphone and my Mac to get a good result.
One the plus side, the cool RGB lights look great (see video), and fortunately they can be easily switched off if they get distracting. It sits well on the desk and at 200g has a bit of weight to aid stability. It has a mute facility, and the lead is a very good length.
It doesn’t have a pop filter or any kind of shock prevention, but for the price I guess that’s acceptable. It’s a decent beginner microphone that looks cool, but personally I’d spend a little more money to get a higher grade mic.
The best things about this product is the RGB settings, it’s aesthetically pleasing and has brilliant sound quality. It’s great for Streamers, YouTubers or anyone that’s trying to create content. I love using it to talk to my friends and it’s a great quality device.
This product is definitely one of the best on the market. I bought it for music recording and vocal tracks. Its not heavy at all it cheaply made but the microphone itself is amazing. I 100% recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap and easy to use microphone!
I’m not a gamer so my “alien spider” is only for use with Skype. Nooooooo use for the pretty colours but they amused my elderly father. Worked straight out the box, on a Windows 10 pc.
EDIT 11/07/2023: The product has changed since I wrote my review. The cardioid functionality has been removed and replaced with a simple mic volume knob. The mic now seems to be fixed in omnidirectional pattern, which would be not good for streaming if that’s what you wanted to do with it. Note, it looks like they’ve updated the product pictures, but not the product description which still says it has cardioid adjustment – evidently from the pictures and recent reviews, it doesn’t have that any more. Real shame.
Leaving at a 5/5 for my original purchase tho’.

This is a hidden gem! It might not have the best audio quality out there for dedicated mics, but it’s still very good and the cardioid adjustment works well when needed. With the touch-top mute feature, this is the perfect mic for when you’re on Teams and want to be able to mute/unmute quickly without fiddling with the mouse trying to get on the mute button in a hurry when you need to. I absolutely love the LED colour melding/cycling it has built-in, it has a nice background soothing effect, perfect for the stressed out desk worker!
Only two minor points:
– some people might be put off by the monitor feature which causes the mic to also show up as an output device, so you’ll need to use a custom mic/speakers combination in your Teams/Skype etc settings and may need to check it from time to time in case it gets reset (which can happen occasionally)
– it’s not designed to also be mounted on a boom, which is a shame as while the stand is very good, some people might prefer to have it on a boom (tho’ perhaps more resourceful people might be able to manage it)
In short, this is an absolutely gem of a product, especially at under 30! (currently 27.50!). Nice one Aokeo!
Works very well 192000hz and 24bit a big upgrade from my 16bit 48000hz microphone the rgb lights are very nice and the controls are very good however it doesn’t work for things like Roblox but i think that may be a problem with my laptop or settings.
The micorphone is quite good value for money but I have found that on my Windows 11 machine it need to use APO equaliser to boost the volue as it can be quite low at times.
I am adding a boom arm to it to move it closer to my mouth and also to stop it picking up all the typing sounds when it is sat on its quad-pod.
It is good build qulaity and I thing reasonable for the price point.
I liked how easy it was to setup and this is the best value for money, audio from the mic when speaking is so clear that people can hear you clearly and crisp best product that I brought in awhile.
Had to buy this mic after my cats chewed through my headset wire! It came so quickly, was really easy to set up & the sound quality is great for the price. Would definitely recommend 🙂
What an excellent microphone for the money this is, not only does it look smart but it’s even clearer than my current mic which cost quite a bit a few years back!
It arrived safely, and it comes nicely packaged inside a well-illustrated and smart looking retail box, nice enough to be given as a gift.
Along with the mic you get a generous 1.75m USB cable which features both a Type-A and Type-C connector on the one end so you can plug it into phones and tablets as well as a computer. As soon as I had plugged it into my Windows 11 PC it was ready to use straight away.
The overall build quality isn’t too bad and it definitely looks more expensive than it is. The mic itself feels well made, the button and dials are nice to use, and it’s got a modern Type-C input. The stand feels a bit cheap but the plastic looks fine, it sits nice and flat, its got four rubber pads which grip well to my desk, and it holds the microphone nice and sturdy after you position the mic and tighten the collar.
Ive used this mic in my Discord group for several weeks now and anyone I have asked agrees that my voice comes through super clear with the filter doing a fantastic job of keeping background noise levels down and it doesn’t transmit ambient noise when I’m not speaking. The one touch mute button on top works perfectly every time and the ability to turn the mic omnidirectional is really useful if I ever have friends join me.
The RGB lights are a great addition and look really good, especially if you have your mic visible on stream. By pressing the RGB button you can choose from a variety of solid colours, a few lighting effects and an equaliser type mode where your voice controls how bright the lights are (11 modes in total). Of course, if you don’t like them, you can just turn the RGB lights off.
Honestly, for the money you really can’t go wrong with this mic, and it has exceeded all of my expectations. It’s easy to setup, simple to use, and the audio quality is crystal clear, mics have come a long way indeed! It’s a product I’m more than happy to recommend and I feel its easily worth the full five stars, buy with complete confidence!
Considering the price, it has the kind of features you would expect in a mid to high-priced USB mic and even some mid to high tier mics don’t have the features. With a touch-based mute at the top, headphone monitor, Cardioid and omni selector, and the included tripod, it’s a great desk mic for people using zoom, or even folks starting out on YouTube.
The annoying (well for me it’s annoying) LED RGB idiocy built into the mic can also be switched off so it’s not blinging out your desk.
If there is a downside, it might be the audio quality (for some at least) the included video recording straight from Streamlabs (with no processing) is the kind of audio you will get when broadcasting. You will hear that the mic is leaning towards the “brighter” sound with slightly less bass response, however, considering the price, I think the sound quality from the mic is decent enough.
This is a very impressive budget microphone which is great for podcasts. The sound upon replay is clear and sharp. The LED RGB function makes it look very exciting on the desk.
It comes with a split USB Type A- to two USB Type C which also you to utilize the same port you have the mic plugged into with another device.
The mic has a 360 rotation making it easy to tilt in whatever direction your want. It is very easy to use and when I plugged it into my PC, the mic was plug and play with no drivers needed.
I think this is a great budget mic.
I dabble in a bit of gaming and also enjoy recording audio to my PC as well as creating web content. This Aokeo Condenser mic with RGB and headphone socket is a really good, functional addition to my kit. The build quality seems nicely done as is its appearance. The stand has rubber feet and a ball joint to facilitate setting the mic to the desired angle.
In respect of the mic’s audio capabilities the audio output is of good quality and can be tailored to suit the user’s requirements by adjusting between Cardioid or omnidirectional pickup patterns. On the rear of the mic is a 3.5mm headphone socket to enable monitoring of the audio being picked up by the mic. There is a touch pad on top of the mic which mutes the microphone, also having the pickup pattern control in the central position will mute the mic.
The RGB functions are visually appealing and have sufficient options to be able to integrate the lighting to match other RGB lit equipment in the vicinity. Included in the package is a USB-C connecting cable and instruction booklet.
I have used this microphone to record acoustic guitar, harmonica and vocals and for video meetings and found it to perform very well in terms of the tonal quality of its output. It has sufficient sensitivity without making the ambient background noise of a room become prominent. In summary a very useful and stylish USB Condenser Microphone with RGB lighting which I consider to be really good value based upon its price and performance. Recommended.
Before we begin, I got this item at zero cost through the Vine programme, that doesn’t mean it gets a positive review though. User reviews are important, they’re genuinely useful to buyers and we should use them, so here comes an honest and hopefully helpful one.
In the box …
… you get the microphone on a tripod and a USB-A to USB-C cable. There’s some instructions and a customer satisfaction card. All securely boxed. Well presented too if bought for a gift.
Build quality …
… is good. Microphones are sometimes quite fragile, not so much with this one. The tripod and mic are fairly robust. The microphone has adequate supports around the mic pickups. The dials are smooth and the button has a reassuring click to it. The connections on the rear are well seated.
In use …
… it’s easy to set up. Driverless install on Windows 7,10 and 11. Plug and play basically.
The sound pickup on it is ok. The dial on the front can help determine if it’s omnidirectional or cardioid (directional, biased toward the front). Both work ok, both still pick up sound from all angles, the cardioid just biases the forward direction.
The touch sensitive button atop can quickly mute the mic (short tap, red LED), unmute (short tap again, blue LED) or switch on the background noise filter (longer press, green LED). Background noise cancelling just filters out persistent low level sounds. It does a reasonable job at this but can truncate normal speech for the first second or so. Most sound cancellation devices do this, some better, some worse, this microphone is fairly good at it.
The LEDs have a load of different colours and patterns. Video attached. The colours are deeper than in the video.
The 3.5mm monitor socket on the rear is for your own headphones so you can hear your own microphone. I understand it helps if you’re singing along to a backing track, something which I should never, ever be allowed to do even in private.
Overall impressions …
… are that it’s not bad. It picks up sound well enough. It’s not professional grade audio quality, but it’s nowhere near professional grade price. It’s presented really well too. Solid build and easy to use.
Easy to set up and use.
Looks a bit swish.
Performs well given the price.
Background noise suppression works, but is a tad aggressive.
And the big question, would I buy it? …
… I would. The LEDs might not appeal to professionals but home users would get a kick out of it, especially streamers and gamers. It’s all about those RGBs you know.
I love to stream online while playing video games and so I decided to try this gaming microphone and it is definitely a high quality product. I love that it has 11 lighting modes that makes for a great gaming experience.
It has a very clear and warm sound, but also brings depth to my voice to where it picks up the low as well as high tones. It also has various functions like mute by touching the top of the device. It also is easy to set up using a USB-A cable that also can be connected to a computer, mobile phone, or even a gaming system like a PS4. It also has a protective layer to keep moisture from getting in, filtering sound, and increase durability to last against multiple uses. It really is a quality microphone as well as fun to use and I love showing it off while live streaming.
Very happy with it. Relatively inexpensive but my recorded voice on playback is very clear and the LED light effects look great in a gaming room already fully of LED lights. Easy to use and I recommend it.
I have had it for about a year and it still works great you can put it on a microphone arm you can turn on noise reduction as well witch helps a lot if you have a noisy pc and you should just buy i
It is an amazing mic for a beginner. I’ve recently started streaming and gaming and was searching for a good quality mic with a reasonable budget and hence bought this USB mic. The voices are very clear and smooth. It is very easy to use, just by plugging in and playing. This mic is provided with a protection layer which prevents the saliva from falling on the mic thereby extending the life of the mic. It is provided with 11 lighting modes which can be chosen according to our wish to have a better experience while playing. It is also provided with a mute option which can be muted by just one tap on the microphone, also the microphone will be red in colour when it is in mute.
Every evening I play a few hours of games with my friends. That’s why I have player equipment. The microphone I’ve been using for two years doesn’t work well anymore. I’ve been using headphone mic for a long time but this is not professional. I don’t have a budget of hundreds of pounds. I broadcast sometimes and so I needed the microphone that looked great. This microphone looked so cool and so handsome. I looked at the photos and read the description. I only had to pay 37.5. It was worth trying and I bought it.
Frankly, I was nervous as it was 37.5. Because you have to pay an average of 50-80 for good microphones. Of course there are exceptions. This microphone is one of the exceptions.
I immediately connected this microphone to my gaming computer. I opened the OBS (Broadcaster Program) program and tested it. Everything was great. Now I had to test it through the application we were chatting with. I asked my friends and everyone gave full marks. Of course, when giving full points, they asked me the price. Remember, this is a price performance product. If you compare it to a 400 microphone I’ll be honest, that’s wrong. But I can say that it is better than the microphone that I will pay 80 and buy right now.
The bottom sound sensitivity is great without using filters and additional programs. It doesn’t detect the sound of the air conditioner running in the back or the noise of my wife poking around the drawers next to me. Sure it picks up some sounds, but even the best microphones are useless unless you set them up. What you need to do is to adjust the microphone settings in the speech program you are using. Also, plug-ins discount for microphone settings can make it much more professional.
I was very satisfied with the sound quality, although I did not interfere with this microphone. He’s very good at bottom sounds. The lighting and design are gorgeous. It is good enough to compete with popular brands. The microphone does not hear this sound when I kick the table.
