This game is so much fun, and so simple to play. We have played with all adults, and also with families with children…everyone gets it eventually. Very fun, involving strategic play and bluffing…you really learn everyone’s personalities in this game. But you have to play it a couple of times for it to make sense…don’t give up. It is worth every second spent learning how to play.

Played this game with my extended family. Loved it so much I ordered one for my family. It easy to play which was great because I have younger kids. They caught on and we love playing this game.

We now have three sets of this game in our family because everybody wants to have one at their own home. Super fun and easy game for families and especially competitive ones. Every time we play the volume in the room goes up 90% because of all the laughs that this game brings. Would recommend!

Skull is a great bluffing game. Sturdy game pieces, very simple rules, easy to learn, fun to play. We played 2 hands, I won both, winning the game. We had another new game to try so we moved on. Ordinarily, a game should last much longer. I thought it was a lot of fun.

This game is so much fun with friends or family. I was introduced to this game at a summer camp where we played the game for HOURS. I had to buy it for my game loving brother for Christmas. We played it as a family and love out bluffing each other. Don’t even get me started on the GORGEOUS art work. The colors are so vibrant and the designs are stunning. Would recommend!

Skull is a bluffing game that can be taught in less than five minutes and third graders (and maybe younger – I have not tested) can quickly catch on to the mechanics of the game. Players place cards face down in front of themselves and opponents are attempting to determine which of two types of cards are placed in front of them. Everyone who I have introduced to the game has enjoyed it, so I try to have an extra copy on hand to present as a gift to players who are having fun. … My only concern is that the cards can be worn down unevenly and a sharp eyed player may be able to identify the cards in front of an oppone

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis game has been with us to summer camp with kiddos and to some of the best parties I have seen. its small, versatile, easy to pick up and has more depth in a tiny package than most games. Its a bluffing game, its a strategy game, its good with 2 players and best for 4 or more. We have found ourselves wanting to pick up a second copy because once people play it once, they get hooked. Friends and Family have borrowed or wanted to buy their own copy.

I played this at Mox in Portland with a group of coworkers and had so much fun that I bought one for myself. The game is VERY EASY to learn but a lot of fun to play; it’s a combination of strategy, bluffing, psychology, and luck. It is recommended for 3-6 players, and we like to play with with 4 or more just because we think that the more, the merrier.

This is hands down one of the best games I’ve ever played. My friend actually went and bought a second deck just so we could play with more people! The artwork is great, the materials are sturdy, and it’s just a fun game. Definitely recommend for family or friends game nights.

Not verry high production quality. One disk got damaged when pushing it out the …. Cardboard thing….
Now. If a player notices that, the player with the damaged disk is at a disadvantage….

The game is too light to really matter but still….

I’m always on the hunt for small games that travel well and are easy to learn. My family and siblings loved this game because it’s relatively easy to learn, and it’s good for game night!

If you like Cockroach Poker you might also enjoy this one.

The rules are simple, but the strategy/bluffing makes it pretty complex. You have to think ahead, but the psychological component means it’s not just about skill or luck. This game is so fun! Easy to learn, and hilarious to trick your friends into losing.

This is a game that is easy to learn and fun to play. My family plays lots of different kinds of games – from easy to complicated, but most of our extended family are not into complicated games. This was very easy to teach them a lot of fun. We highly recommend playing with 6, but 4 is also fun. The artwork on the cards is beautiful and the cards are thick.

My husband and I already have this game – we brought it to my aunt’s house one night and played it with the family and they loved it, so I picked them up a copy for Xmas. It’s great for parties and is great for seasoned and newbie gamers alike. It’s fun, quick, easy to explain, the rounds are short and full of bluffing, sneaky smiles, laughter, and more bluffing! 😉 If you enjoy poker type bluffing games and beautiful art then you’ll enjoy this! It’s also a small game and easily thrown into a purse or bag to bring to parties. A little pricy but it’s a game with a lot of replayability and will become a staple in your game collection – so very worth it I think 🙂

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersSo the game is really fun. Fast paced. Easy to learn. Love that six people can play. Cool look to pieces.

    BUT….

Be VERY careful separating the pieces from the cardboard edge. One piece tore and of course the whole point of the game is now knowing what each card is. So we had to “fix” the card and fix each card to look exactly alike. So bummed

    Awesome game but one warning...

Simple game. Realistically can be played with a standard deck of cards if you know the rules. You buy this for its beauty. It is a beautifully made game, the artwork makes it worth the money.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery nice art. Good, hefty playing pieces. Fun game as long as everyone is into it, but if your friends don’t like bluffing and talking and trying to read each other, it’ll wear out its welcome quick enough that it just stays on the shelf.

This bluffing game has a broad range of use. Small to large play groups, and young to experienced play groups can all play the game with ease. The artwork is greatly appreciated, and the game is so simple that you could realistically play this game with a deck of cards. (This is what I did while waiting for the game to be delivered)

Skull is such an easy game to teach and play, the rounds are fast, and it’s a perfect way to start a games night or just pass the time when you’ve got a few minutes to kill. The cards in this box are beautiful: big, sturdy, and covered in gorgeous candy-skull-esque artwork incorporating several different cultural motifs. Even if you don’t play it, you could even use them as coasters (a spin on the classic of using beer mats to play Skull in a pub, perhaps?). But you’d probably have much more fun using them as playing tokens!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI personally love the art and colors on these tiles. I think it just looks amazing. With the game being very easy to learn and imo a lot of fun. I think the price is perfectly acceptable for this game at $20. Product came in fine packaging, I love the box it comes in and it is a great size to just store away with ease. My biggest issue for say monopoly is storing it in a place I am not too lazy to fetch while also not taking up space in a place I’d rather not. This game is a deceptively small box compared to the image, fits with ease in my ottoman and even couch pockets.

I see other reviews complain about the product being like peeled and another about too expensive for quality. I can say my unit came with 0 damage and it actually looks like it would be hard to damage after the break away, it is the initial break away that is the risk. I would not consider this cheap for price. It is very nice color with a good ink and strong cardboard underneath. Sure looking at material cost I could see the argument for much cheaper but look at other board games. Almost all are expensive, to me this is cheap for a fun game with friends.

Buy it… The creators deserve the kudos for their creativity!

However, once you have it and have learnt it the world is your oyster. Any bar or pub beer mats can be converted into a game of skulls with one pen and an ‘X’ on the dreaded skull beer mat.

Simple, fun, brilliant. My only wish it that they did a wood or plastic version that would be a bit harder wearing

Great fun little game that’s very simple to get started but hard to master. It’s a game of bluff, double bluff, and brinkmanship. You’re essentially trying to guess what your opponents are doing while also misdirecting them about what you’re doing. Great fun, and beautifully made.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis game was introduced by a friend and at first I thought it was a bit too basic as the rules were explained but the simplicity of Skull is part of the charm. Once you’ve played only a couple of rounds you quickly realise the tactics required are complex and the bluffing and fooling starts. It’s great for younger ones too and my 10 year old thinks a game where he’s encouraged to be as deceitful as possible is fab. Not many games for 6 people too.

Give it a go. It’s great for adults and kids to keep entertained and easy to take with you.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersIf you thought you liked poker for the deception, think again. Poker is numbers and probability and can be worked out by great players. This game just shows you how much you can’t trust your friends and family!

The legend has it that Hells Angels use this game to choose their new leader one the old one dies. If that is true, it is the perfect game for it.

This game is aimed at young adults up (The box has 14+ in the UK or 10+ if you are in France, I think there is some discrimination going on right there!) and can be played by anyone.

It’s quick and simple to learn to play and once you get the hang of it you can start to twist the knife into the backs of your loved ones!

The premise is that you have a point mat, if you turn it twice you win. You have 5 cards, 4 roses and 1 skull. You put the cards down in turn and then when at least one round of everyone laying a card has happened you can vote to call how many roses you can turn over. You start with all your cards then can choose who else to turn over. It’s quick and simple, addictive and brutal. The people you think you knew are better liars than you realised!

The cards a beautifully printed and solid. It’s small and portable and played with a minimum of 3 people. It’s better if you can do the full 6 as it adds more to the lying element, but however many you can get to join in, you will have so much fun doing it.

For those that don’t like board games, it’s perfect as there are limited parts, limited rules it lasts 15-20 mins at most (maybe 30 mins with 6) and can be picked up and put down as you fancy.

It is inexpensive and there are multiple print runs of this game with lovely imagery. It is also known as Skulls and Roses in some print runs. So I say just go for it. It doesn’t take up much space but is first class in replayability.

I love this game so much I recently bought it as a gift for a friend also. It’s easy to play with enough skill needed to keep it interesting. The game looks beautiful and is of very high quality. The cards are so beautiful I’m tempted to buy another copy just to display some of them in frames around my home. This game is great for all ability of player and is small so doesn’t take up loads of storage space. The game doesn’t take too long to play so can easily be taught to friends when having a couple of drinks or an evening. Great fun, well designed and a beautifully high quality game for those on a budget. I’d definitely recommend.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersA fun bidding and bluffing game. You use coaster sized boards and discs, large square shape one to act as your score card and 4 discs to do your bids.
Basically you take turns placing the round discs, eventually you or another player will challenge by saying how many discs they’ll flip, of all that have been played. Players take turns increasing the amount they’ll flip, until they choose not to (this is a pass) or can’t bid higher. The challenge is completed by flipping the discs one by one till all are flipped or you find a skull. If you don’t reveal a skull you get a point otherwise you lose the challenge.
Very simple concept but is fun to psych-out your friends in thier challenge bids, this can be a very tactical game.
You can increase the number of players with a 2nd box but that’s up to you, there’s also variant rules/ options in the rule book too.
Other than the rulebook it’s not language dependent so is easy to teach and learn.
Due to the artwork it may not be appropriate for younger people but it’s by no means bad just the skull may disturb them a little bit, the concept of bidding and challenging maybe a little advanced for them too but if they’ve played similar games it shouldn’t be a problem.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI agree with everyone else that this is a colourful visual feast of a game, and the skull/roses theme is very cool. No point explaining the rules, you’ll get a rulebook if you buy it.

Not played it with a bigger group yet but i can see that a showdown with 6 experienced players would really be something for all involved, the levels of taunting and potential for elaborate psychological misdirection make it hugely entertaining. If you like the kind of games where the majority of the game takes place away from the board/cards/dice then you’ll love it, if not and monopoly is more your thing then you should probably give it a miss.

Possibly a little overpriced if you look purely at what you get, but this is worth far more than the sum of its parts and you could get years out of it especially if you establish different groups of players..

One tiny issue I had with the components themselves was that you have to press them out of the card yourself, and unfortunately one of the cards tore the top layer of the artwork slightly as i twisted it out. Not a huge deal you might think, but it would ruin the essence of the game to have cards in play that could be identified in any way so be very gentle getting them out.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGAMEPLAY
Skull is a bluffing game where each player starts off with four circular tokens (similar to coasters in size), three of which are roses and one of which is a skull. Players take it in turn to place one of these cards face down in front of them until (providing everyone has placed one card down) someone bets how many cards they can turn over without revealing a skull. The catch is however, they must start by flipping their own skull first. Subsequent players can then either pass, or raise the bet, until no one else can match it, at which point the highest bidder flips the cards they wish. If they lose however, the person who’s skull they turned over picks a random card from their hand and discards it (face down) from play, which of course limits your options, especially if your skull gets discarded! If you lose all your skulls you’re out of the game. The winner is the first person to win two rounds.

The fact that you have to flip all of your own cards first is the key component of this game and essentially allows for people to essentially trick each other into thinking they are a safe option: A player (knowing they have placed a skull down in front of them) can open with a fairly high bet, luring people into believing they have roses down. This can however backfire, as people may cotton on to their ruse, and refuse to bet, thus causing them to turn over their own skull! Other bluffing techniques, such as pausing when considering whether to bet higher (even if you know full well you have a skull placed in front of you) or taking ages to decide a card (even if you have all roses remaining) can also throw people and add to this simple but clever game.

    REVIEW
The strong point of skull is its simple concept which still allows for quite tactical gameplay. It is very easy to teach and satisfying for newcomers to play as they quickly come to grips with and learn the common tactics this game involves. The artwork on the pieces is very pretty (see photos attached) with each set of cards boasting a different intricate design and colour scheme. However don’t let this put you off as the game is really fun to play, containing a good mix of tension, excitement and of course satisfaction involved with betting increasingly higher and somehow managing to pull it off, or telling a convincing lie and managing to trick one of your components…

    Pros:
    # Lovely artwork with each set of roses and skulls having their own design.
    # Simple concept which is very easy to teach, yet still allows for intricate tactics.
    # Small and portable.

    Cons:
    # The print is not very durable, and wears away after a few uses.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAlways keen to add new games to our ever expanding collection, Skill caught our eye and appealed to us based on the beautiful design, short play time, and excellent reviews. We were not disappointed!

The game itself is very simple, and very much centres around bluffing and taking risks. It’s feels like poker when you’re playing, despite not being anything like poker at all! I won’t bore you with how the game plays, because there are plenty of YouTube videos that will explain that for you. What I will say is that with a short play time and a lot of excitement, this game has become a staple filler game and one we bring out regularly. Everyone in our various gaming groups enjoys it, and it’s an easy game to introduce new members to your table top group.

I really love this game. It is simple to teach but has some depth to it. If it were just me I would give it 5 stars but I have to take into account my wife’s view and she didn’t enjoy it very much. She found it hard to develop a strategy as opposed to Perudo which is a similar idea albeit different execution. For my money I would go to this before Perudo as it is simpler to teach and plays out quicker.

Each player gets four coasters one with a skull on and three with roses. Players will all lay one coaster face down, and after this choose to lay a coaster or make a bet. The bet is how many coasters they can turn without hitting a skull. Other players can raise the bet or pass. This plays well with four or more players.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a great game to bring out at gatherings or even down the pub, that is simple enough for everyone to get the hang of relatively quickly, but leaves potential for some devious tactics for seasoned players. It’s really entertaining as tension builds around a challenger that has worked their way through 5 of 6 cards desperately hoping the last one isn’t a skull, not certain if anyone can be trusted (are any of them safe? Are ALL of the remaining cards skulls?).

This edition is beautifully presented with some awesome artwork. BUT as others have noted after just one evening of use, the print is battered and warn. It doesn’t detract from game play but given the asking price and the fact the artwork is so lovely it’s a real shame. So its worth being prepared for this if you are buying it, especially as a gift.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a wonderful game, and the artwork is beautiful. I had only really heard about it as an interesting game or seen Matt Lees’ review on Shut Up and Sit Down, but it well and truly outperforms my expectations. I had hopes for it being a nice and easy game to start the night, and briefly explained the concept to my friends, but I hadn’t considered how much it would bring out our inner bluff, or our collective distrust of Mike. Mike, as we discovered, has a tricksy face, and an even tricksier habit of putting his skulls down when you don’t expect it.

Within twenty minutes we had fully grasped the mechanics to include such deviousness as throwing down outlandish bets just to see what cards everybody else had, irrespective of the outcome, and pulling deceptively innocent faces to lure in a false flower-picker to gather up our deathly skulls. In fact, in the assortment of about 10 games we played that night, I only ever actually won 1 of them, and you know what – Skulls and Roses is so wonderfully fun, and so innocently devious that I didn’t even notice. At the end of every round we would congratulate the winner, laugh at our misfortune and subconsciously deal them out again. It was quick, it was easy, and it was gloriously fun. Well worth buying.

The downside to this however, as with the other people who experienced the same thing – the print faded exceptionally quickly. After the hour and a half of gameplay, I had noticed several small patches of white fading on the corners of the cards as they had been shuffled around. It’s not wildly problematic, and this is the kind of game that I expect to play a lot so I fully expect it to get battered. My copy of One Night Ultimate Werewolf set has the same problem, and is printed on similar card stock so I would say it’s probably just a thin layer of ink on some of the cards more than anything, but I would definitely recommend getting a clear matte spray to help finish them.

Playable up to 6 with a single set, it says lower-limit of 3 but we successfully played it with 2 with a bit of logic and collective rule agreement. Probably best played with 4-5 though, as it allows for the most amount of careful thought and evil sniggering without falling into a pattern. It’s a brilliant game, and I’m very glad it’s in my collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Roses are red, Skulls are White, This game that I've bought - it's quite the delight.
