Its a film that packs punch after punch and none of those punches are ever pulled. It shows an era of Hollywood and airs its dirty laundry brilliantly. Robbie, Pitt and Diego Calva give stellar performances. It will shock, disgust and surprise you but the narrative and direction is stunning.

This film is brilliant. It’s so different and about Hollywood in the 1920s and how they made the move to sound. Totally mental time to be alive and you get a good sense of what the 1920s was like.

    Watched this as a download.
It’s very long, but very entertaining with a vein of dark humour running through.

I loved this movie. The party scenes at the beginning were awesome, but you need to take a deep breath to take it all in!!!

Margo Robbie shines as usual as does Brad Pitt, both underated actors in my view. With great smaller performances from Jean Smart and especially Toby Macguire…Horrible character but fantastic acting!

The whole story takes you from glory to despair to tradgedy as you see former heros at the top of their game fall from grace in a newer world they can’t navigate and its done to perfection.

Something different, Crude and Rude but entertaining , with a story line and good cast.
No dull bits, don’t be put off by the length.

Far better than the initial impression I got of the movie when it was released. A little long, but it has the delightful Margot Robbie. She was wonderful portraying Nellie LaRoy, Brad Pitt as Jack Conrad equally so. Left with a tinge of sadness by the end seeing how their transitions from silent to talking impacted their lives and how Hollywood would go on to treat people in the same way as today.

Interesting film about the end of the silent movie era. Great performances from the lead actors. It was just an hour and a half too long – added nothing to the story.

Cannot dismiss the actoring pedigree available for this movie. It was very uncomfortable to watch at times, but this just added to the experience. I know this movie split opinions, mine is ‘it’s a must see’.

Very engaging film. Didn’t seem as long as 3hrs +. Brilliant performances from Brad Pitt & Margot Robbie. Would recommend.

Set time aside to watch this debauched, epic, tragic celebration of the end of an era and the twinkling light of the new. Fabulous.

I surprised myself by actually liking this film. Yes, it is brash, loud and over the top but, the 2nd half especially, showed in graphic detail the consequences of the players excesses and how quickly they were forgotten as life moves on. The film also contained some very funny moments.

I like this movie, it’s not the best and has few boring scenes, but overall the story is interestingly combined with history

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA tour-de-force film and stunning performances from Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt….However, it gets very dark towards the end and I don’t understand why they did that, so be prepared.

I love movies about making movies, so Babylon is made for me. It’s baffling that this movie seems to have come and gone with so little notice or fanfare. It’s definitely long, and, some can argue, too much in love with itself, but, if you’ve always been a movie lover, and enjoy period pieces about Hollywood, this is the movie for you. It’s mostly funny, though it has its dramatic moments, and the usual use of Jazz in the Soundtrack, like Chazelle does in all of his movies, goes well with the subject matter. Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt are in top form here, and their charm and charisma carries you through the 190 minutes of this movie. Image and sound are top notch in the 4K, pity that the extras packages is nothing to write home about, a couple of featurettes and a nice collection of deleted scenes. If you love Whiplash and La La Land, this is a nice follow up to those movies.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSet during the transition period during the 1920’s-30[‘s silent to talking
    times
Though the film does indeed harbour much adult content, it follows in the
main three key characters, successful silent movie icon Jack Conrad (Brad
Pitt) party-girl /ambitious actress Nellie LeRoy (Margot Robbie) and accidental
movie director Diego Calva as Manuel “Manny” Torres who from the outset
    becomes obsessed with Nellie.
The story as was the case in reality during those times portrays how successful
silent-movie stars fail to cross over to talking movies
The film does contain scenes of an adult nature, and also strong language and
somer strong violence, along with a measure of humour.
Quite a sad tale as it unfolds.
    Worth a watch
Good picture quality on tbe 4k forma

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersJust about four stars as I did keep watching for the three hours. Not convinced it went anywhere we have not been before when it comes to revelations on the history of the moving image. Its nemesis Singing In The Rain is far far more engaging and not because its lighter; its overflowing with original talent. Babylon is slick and polished but has no real narrative flair.

It could be a companion piece to Empire of Light a movie I enjoyed much more than Babylon. My personal favourite movie of its ilk is Billy Wilder’s masterpiece Sunset Boulevard. Dark indeed. Drama on screen. I actually prefer Brad Pitt’s own recent appearance about the Industry in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood replete with Quentin Tarantino flourishes. Even the Coen brothers Hail Caesar is above Babylon especially for repeated viewing. So, four stars if not seen these films.

Comparisons inevitable unless you are very original and Babylon is merely 2023 in its overview. 2022 if you want to get all pedantic on me. If it had stayed where it started in the Silent 1920s that could have been an interesting insight into how they had to show rather than tell their stories. I admit I never knew the titles were hand written. Energy and innocence drove the movie industry. Casualties were many.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersA look at the rise and fall of a group of people in 1920’s/30’s Hollywood including an aspiring filmmaker, a young actress, a fading movie star and a critic at the end of the silent movie era. Director Damian Chazelle’s latest is perhaps a bit too long but still technically brilliant and enjoyable black comedy drama looking at the end of the silent movie era and start of the talkies in Hollywood with outrageous over the top parties, orgies and Hollywood excess and excellent performances from Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Diego Calva and Jean Smart.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSome excellent performances in a confusing and at times, a baffling storyline. The depiction of the hedonistic lifestyles of the players may have been accurate, but they left you depressed and disappointed. Not a masterpiece, but entertaining, in places.
