As a ‘sporadic’ woodworker this Bosch has been perfect for drilling the odd hole, and for putting countless screws into some flower boxes that I made.
Very good value for money.
We bought a fixer upper, and the 10 year old basic argos drill my fiance had in her possession was not cutting (drilling?) it with our needs.
I decided to go with a brand I’d grown up with and bought this beauty from B&Q.
The good: build quality, cordless flexibility and the led light were excellent. I’d only ever borrowed my grandads plug in hammer drill so the versitily and small form factor were brilliant. Tightening the chuck was simple and I managed to get through joists to run cables fairly easily (though not at great pace).
The bad: very limited in its power. Though it will spin the driver/drill bits/ paddles bits you stick in the end, it’s low end driving ability will impact larger jobs. Also the supplied 1.5ah battery will run dry very fast, so either find a deal with 2 and keep one juiced up or spring for the larger 2.5/4 ah.
I’ve since gone on to make multiple purchases in the bosch home and garden ecosystem (torch, fan, impact driver) and really enjoy the flexibility of this system. However…
If you have major work that needs doing and will be drilling into anything harder like metal or concrete, you really should go for the model with the hammer setting. It’s difficult to miss but this is a combi drill this is good for drilling holes and driving screws. It will not bore into brick or concrete.
For picture hanging and general house diy it should be fine but if you buy 1 drill (I’ve ended up with previously mentioned impact driver as well as a bosch plug in SDS hammer drill) MAKE SURE YOU LOOK FOR THE HAMMER FUNCTION!
Overall: reliable tool, versitile battery system, compact design for variable use cases and small spaces, with limited power and lacklustre packed in battery.
Why say it has a 2ah battery when it’s only a 1.5ah battery.
