I have always loved the Call of Duty games, but this one I felt was just brilliant. The game play was great, the graphics are spectacular and the campaign story good too. What I loved most though was the time period of World War II, It really suits this type of game and the story within the game was really well researched and executed brilliantly.
This game is great, with lots of online players. It doesnt have the same open and vast maps as WaW, which generally means it’s better for players who prefer machine guns than bolt action rifles which is a shame, but it is still really entertaining to play.
Call of Duty WWII takes the franchise back to it’s origins, putting you in the boots of a private in a unit that lands on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, and with a campaign that takes you battling through France and into the heartland of the Reich.
The campaign is a fun one as you and your best friend try to survive action after action whilst battling the German war machine, watching each others backs not just for the danger of bullets and bombs, but because your squad has a Sergeant for whom nothing ever seems good enough.
Whilst most missions involve you playing the primary character battling on foot through the ruins of France, Holland, and Germany, there are various sections that either put you in vehicles of the era or are told from the perspective of other characters, such as sections where you get to drive a Jeep as you race to relieve a besieged unit, a German Mobelwagon in an attack on an armoured train, an M4 Sherman tank going up against the might of German Panzers, A P47 Thunderbolt on bomber escort duty, and a mission where you play a French resistance fighter infiltrating a German headquarters.
All of the weaponry of the era – bother American and German – is represented, including the M1 Garand, Thompson sub-machine gun, Colt 1911 pistol, Browning Automatic Rifle, Panzerschreck, and MG42. You can carry any two infantry weapons at any given time.
Graphically and in terms of sound and musical score the game is terrific. The cut scenes are movie level quality, and the plot gripping, although the campaign is relatively short (about eight to ten hours split over 11 missions), and the game requires a massive download of more than 50 MB with an additional 35MB update that took a frustrating three hours to complete before it will allow you to play any part of it.
I’m not sure I would have considered it worth the money if I had purchased it at the original time of release, but obtaining it at this late date as I did for a very modest amount I’ve found it to be a game that has stood the test of time and which was well worth the purchase.
Great game. They really took it back to there roots this time, and saying that I can’t wait for the new MW either, they know they have been on a tangent and it was an alrightish tangent for some and I don’t mind too much either had no issue with there games but the ww / mw series is where it’s a
I can’t even put into words the happiness I felt with cod going “back to basics”. Boots on the ground, pure all out war fun. For years I’ve stuck with cod4 on PS4, and by no means was I going to be jetpack 360 no scope pile drive gravity spiking the enemy team. Good old warfare! So when this was released, I had zero faith in the call of duty franchise, but this gives me a glimmer of hope for their future. It’s not perfect, it has more flaws than Hollywood’s casting couch, but damnit it’s unquantifiably better than the black ops series!
PS, WE WANT MW2 REMASTERED!!!!!!?
I love the Zombies game in Call of Duty and this one does not disappoint. Find three other random strangers online and suit up to survive as many rounds as you can. Learn the secrets and perhaps survive long enough to destroy the monster and blow up the zeppelin. Upgrade your weapons, build up perks for future games by completing “orders” in game, and enjoy.
I enjoyed playing this edition of COD. People have slatted it for being boring and short, I never found that. I don’t know what people expect from a COD shooting game, there is only so many changes they can make to a shooting game to make it more interesting. The visuals on PS4 are excellent. I did need to download a 26GB update before the game would play, it does not appear to let you run the game out of date, even if you’re not playing online. I hated the mission when the goal was to fly planes.
A good game, the campaign was pretty good if say a 8.5/10 in most parts, really enjoyed the ending, and certain missions, the zombies mode is unforgiving but still very good as sledgehammer own spin, but the campaign can be nothing as the skill gap between players, as you’ve had people that are master prestige that pay to win with repackages and buy all the new dlc for the best weapons, it can be hard to compete
Fantastic game which takes you back to the last year’s of world war 2. Great graphics and gameplay. Only one thing that is disappointing is that the game is very short. It only took me a few days to complete it (a few hours a day after work).
Loved the game and environment! The only reason I did not gave 5 stars is that I have to spend another 35 to have full access to the game via the Season Pass. Do not like pay for the game and in few months have only half the content available, just doesn’t seem right.
Okay so I’ve never been a regular CoD player, mostly because dying and respawning almost repeatedly does kinda get boring but after playing a mates copy for a few games and remembering how fun the older pre wall running silliness days games and as it had dropped to a reasonable price I took the plunge. I still hate the camping quick-scoping cheap players but I guess CoD…CoD never changes. But over all it’s a fun game and most of the changes seem positive altthough “borrowed” from more imaginative games studios.
A return to form for the COD series! The campaign was really quite enjoyable though not the longest. Multiplayer is great with a good variety of maps and weapons and none of the stupid gimmicky weapons or features which ruined recent editions. Still resent having to purchase the extra DLC packs but that seems to be the way the market has gone. Overall a return to what COD is good at. Smaller scale than battlefield, high paced shooting fests – if this is what you are after then this is the game for you
I’ve love that cod is back to its roots no more hex and futuristic stuff great to have the challenge of the ww2 era weapons, the multiplayer usual games with zombies, the story game I found short but is very good also no more auto rehealing, you need to get med packs, like the old medal of honour from ps2 , you will not be disappointed if you are a first shooter fa
This is one of the first Call Of Duty games I have bought in a few years. Activision have finally gone back to basics, removed all of the mindlessly boring and repetitive unrealistic future warfare such as super jump, wall running and lasers and have gone back to a good ol’ war game. The campaign is very good and the graphics are brilliant, online is also very good once you learn the maps and the weapons. Zombies is back to more of a survival game and less of a story mode like in WaW and is also very enjoyable. I would encourage anybody who enjoyed call of duty from around the Modern Warfare 1 (Cod 4) – Black Ops 2 era to purchase this game.
COD WW2 is a welcome return to what made the series great. Gone is the irritating and supposedly futuristic wall-jumping and jet-thrusting around in favour of back to basics boots on the ground. The improvements in technology since the last WW2 shooter really shows and the imagery is fantastic, which together with convincing thuds when bombs go off around you, creates an atmosphere that you can believe in.
Although I play all game modes, I tend to enjoy single player and couch co-op multiplayer the most. In WW2 single players are not ignored like in previous titles. There is a full and engaging single player campaign in which your character progresses through Normandy on D-day to the push in to Germany itself. From memory, there are about 12 chapters for the campaign and each is a decent length with enough challenges with varying difficulty levels to keep any player happy for a good while. Unless you are the type who will simply run through levels without taking in everything there is to see, you should get a good 10-14 hours out of single player which is an improvement over other recent COD offerings.
A new ‘War’ mode in multiplayer almost bridges the gap between COD and Battlefield in that it offers a number of connected objectives that teams must fight to achieve. One example sees your team in a typical Normandy beach landing, fighting against the bunkers on shore to achieve certain objectives before reaching gun emplacements inshore. The other team is there to stop your advance and at ‘half-time’ the teams swap round. It’s an excellent mode and can make for some intense fire-fights.
Zombies is also back with a more familiar art style to it, although again players have to work towards certain objectives as the hordes of zombies attack in waves.
Graphically the entire game is excellent and in my opinion the return to WW2 is a welcome step in the right direction for the franchise. COW WW2 is far superior to the nonsense that’s been offered in recent years and I love it.
I haven’t bothered with the in-game purchases which are simply designed to attract the brainless twits who are only interested in rushing to acquire the best equipment before anyone else. In multiplayer against bots, you can choose any weapon and any load-out you like from the start, and when online, all you need to do is ignore the cash cows and level up through your own experience. If you’re an offline player, none of the cash cow stuff will affect your game anyway.
The campaign of this game blew me away, for the first time in many years it feels as if Call of Duty have gone back to their roots – no jet packs or exo-suits or special superhuman abilities or any nonsense, gritty “boots on the ground” game-play. This game further adds health packs as a key component of the campaign, which I think is fantastic as it adds to the realism of the war, (even if it only takes 2 seconds to deploy a bandage). The sound design is fantastic and the character development allows you to get to know each of your squad-mates. The multiplayer is much like every other Call of Duty game, with an unlock system in place – however this game adds a “hangout” like area, which is a little bit of a game changer and allows you to play around before you’re in a match, I like this addition because it makes you feel more like a soldier and less like a player in a menu.
Zombies mode is back, and grittier than ever, if you liked it in previous games, you’ll love it in this one.
When you put this into your PS4, however, you will be met with a large download. Players with slow internet be warned! This is nothing new, and I’m sure it’s expected at this point, but it’s a shame that the days of putting a disk in and playing are those of the past. If I were to fault this game, it would be that the load times can be slow and the grind to unlock weapons can feel long. I have only encountered one bug, which was solved by restarting the game, this was upon launch and selection of platoon in the multiplayer menu.
4/5 – Gritty, yet arcade like and fun.
BOOTS ON THE GROUND!!
This game has gone back to its roots and i love the whole new layout that they have added. Sledgehammer have done a great job with the zombies this time round. The campaign is a little short compared to other call of duty games but its fantastic. Finally the multiplayer is so much fun, i find myself playing hours on end, i love the gun selection and i love how they have added contracts and orders to collect points to open supply drops.
