If you use the SELPHY app it is easy peasy to set up using you mobile phone. Nothing I dislike about it. It does what it says it does. 5/5.

Works as expected although next one I get will have a feeder to load multiple docs for scanning

The printer is neat and does a good job with the printing or copying. I’m pleased with my purchase.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersOkay, I should say from the jump: we don’t use the wifi printing because it’s slow, but it can do it, so if you have the time to wait, it’s great.

But, we do *heavy duty* printing, lots of which is on glossy photo paper, and it’s brilliant! If you set it to best quality print, and choose the appropriate paper type from the options in Properties, the black is true black, and colours are rich and deep.

It prints fairly quickly – it’s slower on the higher quality print, which makes sense – but it can print a plain A4 page full of text in about 20 seconds.

Its scanning function is great, too – quick, reliable and scans copies perfectly.

We needed to buy a new printer recently and wouldn’t think of ordering anything else. It’s such a workhorse; it’s reliable, and we’ve never had a problem with it.

Just a quick tip, though: the ink isn’t cheap, so we’ve sampled off-brand alternatives (we’ve tried several through the Vine programme, too) and not one has been any good. This printer really does need official Canon ink to do what it can do. So while, aye, the ink is a little spendier, if you need a halfway decent print, it’s worth the extra pennies.

I ordered the Canon PIXMA MG3650 to replace the same model which had done me good service for about 5 years before I inadvertently damaged it beyond repair. I was sent the upgraded ‘S’ version (at no additional cost) which is proving as good as the original and as a result was very easy to install because it uses the same configuration and programmes etc as the original. Colour prints on normal paper are of good quality, as are b&w text prints. I print a lot of Word documents with implanted photographs and text and am very satisfied with the results. The machine is good value for money, with the only drawback being the cost of the inks (two of the XL packs including both colour and black cartridges cost more than the printer).

unfortunately, i still had spare inks, 540/541, so had to find a canon printer that still used this ink. same software, so good replacement for the one i damaged ,clearing a paper jam!

I researched a new printer after the last Epson printer, which wasn’t very old, needed the heads cleaning after twenty or thirty copies and was eating ink cartridges. I went with the Which grading for this printer. I agree it is not the easiest printer to set up but after trying several times I managed t set up all the features I needed to use with a wi-fi printer. So far so good and I am pleased with the quality and flexibility and i haven’t started to eat print cartridges yet.

The installation guide is ok but the extra advice from an Amazon reviewer made it so much easier.
Print quality – text and photo is good considering the small number of inks. It seems if you want top quality prints you end up with a bigger machine, probably 6 inks and waste an awful lot of expensive ink – in which case why not just have them printed professionally.

Arrived promptly. Bit of a fiddle to set up. Connected to main PC, but had hoped that I could use wi-fi with a laptop as well, but apparently not. One or the other. So first disappointment.
Next it will not scan to my PC, it copies fine, but gives error message that scanner does not work. Have tried to sort, but the instructions say to uninstall and disconnect etc but it was such a fiddle to set up that I don’t want to risk losing the printer and copier functions. So at a bit of a loss what to do. Shame as previous Canon PIXMA lasted 8 years.
Update: discovered fax wouldnt work as I had not registered Canon Image Garden, Opened windows fax and scan and hey presto, printer now scans beautifully. Problem was mine not the printer.

I admit upfront making the mistake of thinking this was an ‘all in one’ printer/scanner/copier etc but as a basic wifi printer it seems hard to beat. Instructions are easy to follow, installation and wifi connection simple and it works first time every time with great quality A4 black printing. For the price it’s excellent vfm and all the more so when you think that 4 genuine replacement ink cartridges will cost more than this printer – really happy with it!

I run my own company Care to Learn Midlands Ltd and needed a printer that we could take out and about with us to print on site. This printer was simple to set up and the print quality is great for the price we paid. I bought extra ink refills at the same time and was impressed that they were not to high in price. I would recommend tis printer if you want to print at a low cost.

I was fully satisfied with this printer until I got a paper jam. In trying to release the paper, I touched the clear film near the the paper jam. The next time I printed a page the image was blurred and a strip across the typeface was missing. On checking online I realised this damages the machine. What a pity as it is a lovely printer at a reasonable price.

I needed a new printer and we have this model at work, so I know it’s good. Wi-fi, double sided printing, one-touch scanning and copying, decent ink life.
BUT. There is no option on the online installation to choose this model. Thousands of others but not this one. Had to use the CD provided – but not every laptop etc these days has a CD drive!! Also, REAMS of paper instructions etc in about 50 languages …what a complete waste of paper!!! I also can’t register this printer as mine because it doesn’t exist on their drop-down list so I have emailed them. POOR, get a grip!

Such a shame this broke after a week, up till then was easy to set up and use and worked over the Wifi, so could use with iphone etc.
Unfortunately ours broke and had to order another one but we have another of these the same and it’s lasted two years of heavy hard handed daily office use

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe mainly need to print text and graphics so weren’t looking for anything fancy. Print quality is very reasonable and printing is quite quiet (though start-up cleaning is a bit noisier).

If you don’t have WPS on your wifi router then setup is difficult — I wasn’t able to set up that way, but fortunately I discovered the WPS button on the router and then setup was easy.

Too soon yet to comment on product durability.

Contrary to others’ experience, the ink cartridges that came with the printer (bought from Amazon) seem to be full cartridges, not just low-volume test cartridges.

Build quality / Print quality are both good. Initial wifi setup was a little awkward and no matter what I tried it refused to connect to my BT Homehub.
In the end I connected via a USB cable and followed the instructions for wifi setup using a USB cable and it was fine. Once it had joined my network I had no issues adding it to other Windows and Android devices.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOnly just got this printer so these are initial thoughts only!
The printer came well packaged and was easy to get out of the box… a diagram on the box showed to do it on its side.
There was a plethora of different language set up instructions… I found the English version. The instructions are very simple to follow with visual info in diagram form and usually a simple sentence. Unpacking took minutes.
A British 3 pin plug is provided ( also a 2 pin) so once all the Orange stickers and plastic transit holders are taken off; turn it on.
Now to wifi set up: again simple straight forward instructions. Download the Canon Selphy app and follow the step by step instructions ( there is a tutorial video as well). You will need your wifi password and know which wifi is yours. Register the printer and should everything have gone to plan a test print option will be offered. So my Kindle Fire tablet can now print.
On to the mobile. Download the app and connect it to the wifi… this time a message came up about NFC, which I ignored. It found my Wi-Fi and I clicked on the printer name (with proxy address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx type). This time an error message came up. I noticed my Wi-Fi signal was weak so I attempted to ‘require’ which didn’t work. So I remembered Richard Ayaoede’s advice on the IT Crowd and turned my printer off and then back on. This time the printer connected and I registered it on my mobile.
I have only printer one thing and this looks fine.
4 stars for build quality…but only paid 30, so what can you expect! Ink is expensive, look around for deals!

The printer does what it says on the box.

    1. Took 10-15mins tops in total to setup the printer, setup printer Wi-fi and pair it to iPhone, PC and MacBook. Printed via all 3 on two sided functionality and it all works.

    2. Though the printing speed is slow, for the price it’s pretty reliable.

    3. Printing quality for black text not exactly crisp but you’ll have to stare and compare to figure that out.

Great Printer – We just anted a black and white to print out needed items.
Colour is great – came with some downloadable designs for cards etc, worth the price.
Set up took a bit of patience – but stick with it and its well worth it – wirelessly able to print from laptop and phones.
Set up also allows controls to power up and turn off – can be set to turn off after use – quiet settings can be used
to keep noise level of process to a minimum.
Peased we purchased this – much needed for a long while.

Golden Review Award: 67 From Our UsersCanon PIXMA MG3650 Printer. WiFi PROBLEM SOLVED (at least, for me).
Like many other posters here, I went through hours of trying to get this printer to connect through WiFi to my Android devices.

Then, after taking a rest, I re-read the instructions and, in “GettingStarted 2” I came across the lines that led to my solution. At the top of the second fold of this booklet and under the heading “Smartphone/Tablet (iOS/Android)” it tells Android users to Search for “Canon Print” in Google Play! This is the line that led me astray!!!!

I had searched and found “Canon Print”, downloaded and installed it and ended up with the same problems lots of others have experienced!

When I again struggled through The EXTREMELY POOR INSTRUCTIONS I followed what the HEADING said and downloaded and installed the “Canon Print inkjet/SELPHY” app to my phone and tablet.

Then, (after waking the printer up from its long sleep) it was a simple matter for the Android devices to “see” the printer and set it up. It took about four minutes total to get printing from both my phone and my tablet.
Not only was I really chuffed to get them working but the test (photo) prints were excellent. I have yet to check out all the options that are/should be available but my main problem of WiFi connection is solved. At least for the moment.

So, there are two Canon Print apps you can download. Be careful which one you choose! Actually if you install both I think your device will select the appropriate one, although don’t blame me if things go awry!

I thoroughly recommended all who have this same problem to try out what for me has got my MG3650 Printer working off my Android tablet and phone and has made my day!

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersI’m quite impressed with this little printer.
    – Excellent quality prints
    – Lots of reasonably priced refills available
    – Quite fast at printing
    – Can use with Google print (although I’ve not set this up yet)
    – Very quick at photocopying, and very good quality scans.
    – Good value fro money

The only negatives I can add are :
    1. Took me quite a while to setup and was a bit finicky with the WIFI
    2. The WIFI can be difficult a times. I’ve had to reset it twice initially but it seems to be stable for the past few weeks.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersThis a a super printer, and terrific value for money. I bought it in some trepidation, never having had a wifi printer previously, and though at first sight the instructions look daunting, that’s because there are leaflets in half-a-hundred languages, so you really only use two of the leaflets. Once you find the correct ones, setting the printer up is really very easy, and getting it to print a dawdle. The quality of printing is great, and it is very simple to use

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI bought this to replace a poorly 12 year-old Canon IP5000 photo printer. I was rarely using it for photos and thought a budget Canon inkjet for general home-office printing would suffice for what I need, although I was keen to get WiFi connectivity.

    The good:
    – Print quality is excellent for documents and graphics. Very sharp and strong even on the standard setting
    – It’s a compact and tidy looking unit. The paper loading and output can all be done from the front which means it tucks nicely under a desk. For me, this means I no longer have to pull the whole thing out each time I want to print. The scanner/copying bed is on the top, so you’ll need a bit of clearance for that if you’re likely to copy or scan a lot (these functions were a welcome bonus for me but I’m not expecting to do either that much)
    – I managed to get the WiFi connection sorted quite quickly. The software download from Canon is a step-by-step wizard so I set it up easily without needing the printed instructions. Initially I used the USB connection to set-up the WiFi connection but it seemed to forget this quickly so I tried the WPS function with my router and it connected straight away and has held so far. Took 20 mins in total including the initial faffing.

    A few niggles:
    – It doesn’t have an enclosed paper storage tray so unless you are happy for the loader tray to stick out all the time, you’ll have to add paper when you need to use it
    – It’s a bit plastick and flimsy in places (but 30 I wasn’t expecting too much). Thankfully there’s no glossy finish on top to attract dust but the rest of the outer case is a magnet
    – The starter ink won’t last long. Just doing a few printhead alignment tests depleted the black tank slightly. I’ll replace with XL tanks when needed. If my IP5000 inks were anything to go by though you can run them on the “low” warning for quite a while before they finally give up. It is a little annoying that the two XL ink cartridges will cost more than the printer
    – It’s quite noisy but I have enabled the quiet mode all the time as I’m not too bothered about print speed. This has helped a lot.

Overall I think it’s a great value unit with lots of functions for the price, I’m really pleased. I’ll update this review if I get any reliability or build problems as reported elsewhere.

Update 1/2/19: printer still going strong after a year of use. I can’t say I use it loads but it seems to be coping well. The starter ink has only just run out despite warning me it was low after only a few months. Still pleased with this bargain. And no jamming issues as reported elsewhere.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is the second printer of this model MG3650 that I have bought. The first one had a mechanical failure when it was 370 days old! I bought the same printer again so that I could use all the cartridges that I had in stock.
The only trouble with the first machine was a sprung loaded white plastic finger which stopped the paper feeding through.

Replacement for the previous model. Decent for the price, especially for Google Cloud Print, which is curiously less available these days on the cheaper devices out there, but the ink should be cheaper. I always go for the XL packs, and they do last, still, HP ink is a bargain by comparison, alas, no Google Cloud Print, only snotty Apple Print.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a good and user friendly printer. The hardest thing about setting it up was wading through the mounds of needless paperwork that came in the packaging.

Literally reams of pointless bits of paper when only 3 are really needed; the QuickStart guide, the more comprehensive manual, and the warranty.

Everything else can be immediately consigned to the bin.

  30. Monisha Ravisetti says:

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGood quality print and pictures, photocopying is also good, but there is no sheet feeder, and scanning requires hunting for the software but works OK. We have one PC using cable connect and the other using Wi-Fi without any trouble.

Irritations: paper capacity is very small – about 50 sheets; the pull out support for the printed output is no where near long enough so the printed sheets drop to the floor; it is meant to go into “sleep” mode when not used and wake again (auto power on) when you next use it, but it stays resolutely dead to the world (just like a teenager) until you poke it i.e touch the ON switch; the dual language “Quick set up guide” is minimalist and there is no more complete manual to download

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAbsolutely delighted with this printer. I bought it because it came so highly recommended in reviews and it has lived up to expectations. First of all delivery was excellent. Bang on time and well packaged. Downloading the apps was simple and straight forward and it works from my phone, tablet or laptop. The pictures are of good quality for every day use, although I haven’t tried prinitng high quality photos yet. It is probably not the quickest printer around, so if you are planning on prinint large quantities you might want something different but I think you’d be hard pushed to find a better printer in this price range.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this when my HP 8100e colour output was poor, and no amount of head cleaning would fix it. All I can say is this is a good printer at a fair price. OK, it’s not fast, duplex printing is slow, and it has a limited number of paper formats it can print. However, the other side of this is it is cheap, the ink doesn’t cost a fortune, and the output is good. On first use, it virtually set itself up, but like another reviewer I found setting up wireless printing a bit of a pain. However, for under 40.00 for the printer and two standard ink cartridges who am I to complain.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersFirstly – the printer arrived promptly and well-packaged.

As for the set-up, I inserted the CD (you can do this online if you prefer). The printer automatically found and connected itself to my wifi. My laptop found the printer and they connected immediately.

I downloaded the free app to my android phone – it found the printer immediately and I was printing from my phone literally within minutes of getting it the printer out of the box. Likewise for my wife’s ipad.

Anyone (like me) worried about getting a wifi printer – don’t be. Absolute doddle to set up and use. Print quality looks great. I haven’t scanned with it yet, but I’m sure that will be fine – based on experience with previous Canon products.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI read about the perceived difficulties of wi-fi set-up and – sure enough – fell foul of them myself. Once an eyhernet cable was attached however, the wi-fi started working straight away. Perhaps something for the manufacturers to look at.
Despite this minor set-up issue, the printer works well, is better than some other ink-jets I’ve had in this price range and what particularly impressed me was the amount of printing that was possible with the ink cartridges. Now these aren’t cheap, I’ve yet to find a manufacturer’s who are, but my last printer was a Kodak (sold to me as ‘great value’ when it comes to supplies) which was a nightmare. I should say I don’t do a lot of printing, so maybe if the number of sheets printed per day was a lot higher, Kodak may have been better value, and the Canon worse. But for low throughput this model seems very good.
Print quality is good, it is easy to use (but keep a download of the manual handy, as some functions are tricky to first master, with the printer lacking a screen and therefore menus etc.
Overall, I’m pleased with the printer (considering its low price), but there are improvements which could be made.

As for the printer it’s excellent for home use does everything you need and is simple to operate. Ink is also supplied so all in all is very good value. A couple of other things it doesn’t come with a USB cable but it is compatible with Windows 10.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI’ve been using this range since the 3150 was released, and have many of them installed offsite with members of the public and small business.

They can be a bit fiddly to setup the WiFi for the uninitiated, but once configured I find most customers get a lot of satisfaction from their simplicity and reliability.

The choice of Standard or XL inks gives flexibility and better value for money and much of the lower Pixma range have always used the same Cartridges which makes keeping people topped up with ink really easy.

Packed with features and great value for money in my book.

Golden Review Award: 58 From Our UsersI bought this as a replacement when an older PIXMA multifunction printer came to the end of its life. This one has integrated WiFi also, so it’s a great liberation to be able to put the printer where we want it, rather than attached to a particular PC. To enroll the printer on our WiFi network required WPS (WiFi protected setup), i.e. when you press a button on the router/access point and set the printer into a special attach mode. There’s quite a byzantine sequence of buttons you need to press on the MG3650 to get it into this mode, and it’s not in the quick-start guide, so you have to go and seek it online. Once you actually get the printer on your network everything seems to work fine.
