My boys are so excited with this microscope. Good quality and clear image with reasonable price. A star is deducted cos it would be perfect if a wrist strap can be included.
My daughter loves this. Great size just to put in your pocket when we go out for a walk. This is not the strongest magnification but as you can take it anywhere it doesn’t really matter.
Bought this for my curious son, it’s amazing. Great visibility, and the portability aspect is amazing – keeps him off the screens! I’ve went and bought two more for his science keen friends birthday, and the parents have told me how it keeps them occupied for a long time, outside and indoors! Highly recommend getting this for any age!
My 13 year old grandson said it was ‘totally neat’ and it opened a world of magnification and fascination for him. Who knew what a piece of cloth looks like up that close!
It’s tiny uv light is use to funnfor 7vyear old it’s bit fidgeting to hold and watch the slide in place is bit awkward but it’s kool gadget my sone loves i
Nice little microscope. Was enough to see whether my 7 year old would really enjoy using one before getting a better one (he didn’t really).
To be honest the adults liked it more – just looking at paper, wood, fabric, leaves – incredible to see them close up and in a way we never normally view them in life. Such amazing detail.
Focus is a little tricky, mainly because you’re not squashing the item flat like on a lab microscope. But that works ok. Main issue is the LED light. It’s very bright so when looking at whitish or reflective objects it just burns out the detail. Even just one lower dimming option would be really useful.
Great value for money, my little one is 5 years old and still needs our help to adjust it but she thinks of her as great explorer and is certain she is the first one to discover things This mini microscope definitely satisfies her curiosity and she learn loads about nature while using it!
I recently acquired a Lighted Pocket Microscope, and I can’t help but sing its praises. This compact marvel of technology has exceeded my expectations in every way, and I’m thrilled to share my overwhelmingly positive review.
First and foremost, the convenience and portability of this pocket microscope are unmatched. It’s incredibly lightweight and compact, making it easy to carry in my pocket or bag wherever I go. This means that I can explore the microscopic world around me at a moment’s notice, whether I’m in the field, at home, or on the go.
The built-in LED lighting is a game-changer. It illuminates the subject with just the right amount of light, revealing stunning details that are often invisible to the naked eye. Whether I’m examining tiny organisms, minerals, or even the intricate structure of everyday objects, the illumination makes the experience truly captivating.
The ease of use is another standout feature. The controls are straightforward, and I was able to focus and zoom in on the subject quickly and efficiently. The image quality is impressive, with sharp and clear visuals that provide a high level of detail.
The Lighted Pocket Microscope has rekindled my curiosity and sense of wonder about the world. It’s perfect for both adults and children, providing an engaging educational tool that brings science and exploration to life. It’s like having a miniature laboratory in your pocket.
In conclusion, the Lighted Pocket Microscope is a remarkable piece of technology that offers endless possibilities for exploration and learning. Its portability, LED lighting, ease of use, and exceptional image quality make it an outstanding product. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a budding scientist, or simply curious about the world around you, this pocket microscope is a must-have. It has brought the magic of microscopy to my fingertips, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
These are one of the better pocket microscopes. With 60-120x magnification they’re great for examining leaves or roots of plants to enable you to see what might be causing you problems. That and a myriad of other things you can look, bogies are good. You’ll never pick your nose again. Sturdy enough to carry on your pocket but cases are available for them. A built in light illuminates whatever you’re looking at. They’re cheap enough to justify buying just even if for a one off use and hey, they’re cordless.
I bought this microscope a few years ago and initially had a lot of fun exploring various objects with it. However, it soon ended up collecting dust. One day, I noticed my aloe vera plant was ailing due to mysterious green dots. After researching aloe vera diseases online, I feared it might be plant cancer. Then I remembered I had this microscope. Upon closer inspection with the microscope, I discovered that the green dots had legs!!! Mites!!! I don’t know how I missed that initially but little did I know that this microscope could be a plant-saver. This product has proven to be incredibly useful and durable. Five stars.
Good build quality. Pretty good zoom. Found it pretty easy to use but kids had trouble holding it steady and focusing without loosing the subject. Shame it doesn’t have any clips or non slip on the base.
Really pleased we went with this one after lots of research. Fantastic fun for the kids (and adults!). 8 year old manages it fine, 4 year old struggling a bit. Lovely clear images once you’ve got things lined up. Slightly tricky to get the hang of it, as left is right, and up is down, but once you’ve figured out how to find your specimen it’s super fun! This is a sugar grain – photo taken using a very poor mobile phone camera held over the eye piece, so shows how good it is! Using camera helps the little kids who can’t figure out the eye piece, so the whole family are happy. Would recommend!
As an amateur microscopist who has professional scopes costing 100’s, I was very sceptical of this device mainly due to its cost and “plastic” appearance. For the money at the time of this review I thought I’d give it a go as I wanted a really small self contained portable scope for general magnification whilst out and about and on my walks. When it arrived and unpackaged it my first impression was how small it appeared in size, yet it has a very solid feel to it. In holding it and operating the controls nothing creaks or cracks and the controls are very precise and positive. There are three main controls, a simple push click on/off button which controls the LED illumination which is very good, even and doesn’t appear to have any image hot spots. There is a sliding protruding arm at the top part of the scope which controls the zoom (always set at the minimum smallest x magnification to start viewing) and lower down a very deep long focus control which is again positive in action with good resistance and works very smoothly without notching. The scope doesn’t come with any accessories and my only criticism would be that a rubber eyepiece cap would be a nice touch to stop dirt, dust and scratching of the eyepiece lens at the top of the scope when in your pocked. I will fabricate something or find a small cotton reading glasses bag or something suitable. It runs on one AA battery to supply the LED light which is close to daylight balanced. The scope can sit on anything flat and a nice touch is that the plastic supporting fins on the base are wide enough to fit around a standard aluminium “well slide” for aquatic samples. I also experimented with producing a white screen on max brightness with my iPad Air 2 and placing a pre prepared microscope slide with a botanical specimen on the screen and then turning off the LED and mounting the scope onto the slide, this produces good direct through sample lighting and again I was amazed by the results. I also tried placing my phone (Motorola G22) over the eyepiece and taking a photo which wasn’t all that successful as it’s difficult to hold the scope still, get the right angle on the phone lens and press the phone shutter button without moving but with some patience it could produce some nice results. Those with 3d printers may well be able to design and print some kind of mount to get better results. I have no idea how many hours illumination the single AA battery provides but a good high power make should last many hours. The scope can be used without the LED light in good sunlight as the base support stand is clear and allows an amount of direct incident lighting through to the specimen. Overall an amazing very capable device and perfect for getting children interested in the micro world or indeed like me amateur microscopists who just want something light and portable to observe our natural world whilst out of the lab.
The photo is copyright of NBS prepared slides (cotton stem xsection) taken with the scope set to 60x (its lowest magnification) using an iPad white screen on full illumination 100% as the under specimen lighting with the Carson MM300 scope mounted directly onto the glass slide. Camera was provided by Motorola G22 hand held over the MM300’s eyepiece.
Purchased this to inspect some tiny electronics and I also use it to inspect jewelry.
it works great and has amazing magnification. and the built-in light works great as well.
it has a very small frame of focus, so is a little hard to focus objects sometimes.
Overall would highly recommend.
Got the small (20x) and large (60 – 120x) set. Although the Q&A states that like all optical microscopes the image is inverted, this is not the case on the smaller model and this makes it much easier to use. Why they didn’t apply this to the larger model I have no idea. The focus on both models is smooth and steady and the image is bright and clear in both also. On the smaller model the light controls are a bit fiddly. There’s a slider to go between lighting up the scene, off and a small torch but it feels really tacky and I expect it to fail very quickly. Confusingly, the larger model has a press button for scene LED but on the smaller one, in a similar position, it’s for a rather feabile UV light. For the money I am nonetheless impressed.
I was a bit skeptical about this, I wanted something cheap to identify which type of spider mites I had on my plants. It takes a bit of getting used to (it took me a long time to be able to find the spider mite in the eye piece) but it’s good for what I needed. The biggest problem I have with it is the brightness, it would be nice to have some way to dim the light a little bit when looking at stuff. Apart from that I would say it’s worth the money and it’s fun to look at stuff with i
A very nice piece of equipment which is really just a mini microscope. I’d say it would be ideal for examining things under almost laboratory conditions, but that’s not what I wanted it for. I thought it would be perfect for examining plants, insects etc on my rambles, but as it says in the description, the item to be examined must be placed directly under it, and should not be moving. I’ve had a lot of difficulty actually being able to use effectively outdoors. I thought it would be a bit easier to use than it is, and that’s why I’ve only given it four stars. When I do manage to get it to focus correctly, the image is amazing. Problem is, that doesn’t happen every time. I thought about returning it, but decided to hang onto it in the end. It wasn’t too pricey, and maybe I just need to get better at using it.
Arrived well packaged and in a timely fashion, Product exactly as described.
Package contained Microscope and basic instructions.
The Microscope has a nice premium look and feel and the focus and magnification “wheels” have a nice smooth action with just enough turning resistance (this is subject to what material the scope is placed on, smoother surface materials can cause things to move about more) and the power button and battery cover were both well constructed and nicely fitted. Overall first impressions were very positive, it is rare to receive such a well built product at such a price point.
In use the illumination led is easily bright enough and makes viewing clear and well defined. After spending half a day hunting I finally managed to capture some flies and midges for my kids to look at. At lowest Magnification details were very sharp and the structure of the midges eye, body hairs and black shiny leg claws could all be easily made out. On higher magnifications things got a little blurry due to viewing a 3D object ( not all parts of the midge was in focus at one time) but the parts that were in focus were all clear and sharp and the level of magnification was quite impressive. Flat objects were much easier to view at higher magnifications. Viewing angles are good at lower magnifications but as expected get narrower at higher magnifications. By now we have used this Microscope to view many types of insect, sugar, salt and sand grains, flakes of skin many types of leaves, various fabrics and materials, and hairs and always got really good results.
As some other reviewers have stated it can be a little difficult to focus and change magnification at times but this gets easier with use and as you get a better idea what makes a good viewing surface.
The quality of construction on this item together with its good optics mean this is a very good microscope for both young and older users and combined with its price point, provides amazing value for money.
I would highly recommend this product to other potential costumers.
It cost less than a tenner!!…so I really wasn’t expecting too much, so imagine my surprise when this little beauty came…I was really pleased with the quality for such a low cost scope, obviously it can’t compete with my desktop or digital binocular microscopes I have but then they cost a few hundred pounds…this one was for carrying in my backpack and for that it is perfect….some folks have said they have difficulty focusing…what I do is put it on a flat surface and focus it in on a piece of paper (the text) and usually leave it set, then when I come to look at something I find it easier to just raise and lower the scope little amounts to get the subject in focus instead of turning the wheel and that seems to work for me 99% of the time, and I also like the fact it uses a normal battery and not one of the button batteries that some LED’s use, speaking of which…it is a well powered LED not one of the little crappy dim ones that barely light the subject up, this one has more than enough power and on more than one occasion I have used it as a little torch to find stuff in the dark, that should tell you something of the power…So basically if your looking for a top performance scope this one is not for you, go and spend a few hundred quid and get a proper one…but…if you just want something to take on the trail with you in case you come across anything interesting and you need to just (have a nosey) then this is right up your street…it may take a short time to get used to it but once you do you will love it…I did…all the best and happy er…er…scoping.???…
