Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI wasn’t expecting the fine optics and quality I would expect in a scope of the $1,000-$3,000 range. For less than $100 I was just hoping for adequate. The Celestron 12-36X60 exceeded that expectation.

We live pretty much out in the country and my wife has developed an interest in wildlife, especially birds. Since we’re on a river, we see many of the animals across the river. We have resident deer, foxes, blue herons, waterfowl, ospreys and eagles just to name a few.Binoculars work pretty well but when you need more than 8 power, this scope comes in very handy.

    Landscout pros:

    *Very lightweight
    *Bright optics
    *Clearer than expected
    *Above average quality
*Focusing and zooming very smooth and reliable
*Nice carry case and lens covers

    Landscout cons:

*Cheesy included tripod, not really worth having (not the one in the picture, that’s mine)
*60mm front lens barely adequate for low light conditions
*Eye relief could be better, kind of tricky

All in all, a happy purchase. Great beginner’s scope and we expect to enjoy it for many years.

Very satisfied, with a few qualifications.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI wanted a low cost monocular with at least 20x mag to supliment my 10x Vortex (expensive) birding binoculars. Be very careful of all the positive reviews for non name brands. The Celestron is exactly what it claims to be. I tried two other cheaper models with better specs (and included $20 off coupons for a 5 star review). All crap and returned. Stick with name brands in this case. It is light weight and I do wish it had a hand strap. The included stand works well to hold folded so not a deal breaker. Picture quality is really good for the $. Just what I was looking for.

I purchased this scooe for wildlife viewing. I find it easy to zoom in and very easy to pack. Clarity is excellent given the cost. I dropped one star due in part because of lack of waterproofing and or rubber armour on the scope. Otherwise service and product are excelle

I have a great big spotting scope that could be used to read a license plate on the moon but it’s way too big and way too heavy to carry around. Useful if you don’t have to lug it around. Not so great in a hunting pack.
This one is small, very light weight, and easy to carry.

Scope functions well as a spotting scope for archery targets at 50, 60, and 70 meters. Scope is fragile, though, and the mirror in the bend of the scope came loose after two weeks of use.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this for the sole purpose of using it on my shooting range. Because of this, I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on other spotting scopes. I came across this one and it had decent reviews so I went ahead and bought it. The scope and tripode are built pretty well and the optics are alright. It’s good enough to see your .22 bullet strikes at 100 yards on a reactive target. At 50 yards you can see .22 on both reactive and traditional targets. If you’re just the average shooter who wants to skip walking down to the targets all the time then this should help you out. The attached picture is looking at the targets from 100 yards away

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI’m someone who is just starting to get into star gazing and sky viewing. Wasn’t sure if I want to go for a good pair of binoculars or telescope. Then came across spotting scopes. Happy I decided to try it out because I was able to get some nice pictures of the moon and able to even get Jupiter and it’s moons on video. The video might be blurrier then I recorded because of being compressed. But I used a phone adapter to hold it steady to the scope. (I used and iPhone 11 to take the photos) Once I found the object in the sky I would zoom in as much as I could with the scope and then let the iPhone zoom the rest of the way. It’s nice when smart phones automatically adjust the exposure and brightness to get the best shot. Had it for couple weeks now. Pretty sturdy design and the tripod suits me as I have a small table to put it on. Just don’t expect amazing zooms like with telescopes, but with the help of a phone that has a good camera you get pretty great shots. Again I’m just someone just getting into this, but would totally recommend it for anyone who wants a starting scope. Hope this helps those looking for specific answers that I was looking for when testing those scope out.

For the price, not half bad. Image quality for the 12×36 isnt bad one the one I was shipped. Its not the best ive used for sure but it does the job without costing 1000 bucks too. Ive been using at distances up to a mile for sheep hunting. Its clear enough to easily judge size at 1000 yards. Focus is easy, eye relief sucks. I like it that way though so I can rest my eye one eye piece and never get the distance wrong. Not very good looking into valleys with sun glare. Best used like all spotting scopes with the sun at your back. Low light performance or on shadowed hillsides is a fair at best but so is the performance of 500 dollar optics too. For the price buy a celestron over any barska, simmons etc. You Won’t regret i

You get what you pay for, but this is not bad for the price and function. I wanted this for target practice and it should do the job.
I have several Binoculars to compare with, and MFG’s can claim whatever specs they want like 12-36X… but in my tests this is more like a true 12-20X. Not a deal breaker for me… so I reviewed this as a 12-20X.

    The Pros:
    1. Good scope overall for the price.
    2. Very portable.
    3. Small and easy to carry.
    4. If your looking for a spotting scope in the 12-20X range this is not bad for the price.
    5. Good portable Spotting scope.

    The Cons:
    1. Not as sharp as my other Binoculars. (Even my cheap Borska 20X80 was sharper, clearer, and better colors).
    2. Colors are weaker than my other Binoculars.
    3. Contrast is weaker than my other Binoculars.
    4. As pointed out in another review, 12x is close to 12x, but the 36x is closer to 20x.
    5. Bag is ok for scope… but a very tight challenge for scope & Tripod. Another 1/2″ would have been nice.

I bought this through Amazon Warehouse. As far as I could tell, the item was condition match the description. There were some scuffs to the body but no issues that would affect the optics.

I bought this mainly for archery. I shoot up to 60 meters at the moment. For that range, this scope is perfect. The optics are clear enough for that distance and very bright. I’m able to see arrows easily.

The design worked great for my purposes. Its easy to change the angle of the eyepiece and focusing. It mounted easily to my photography tripod and is lightweight. Easy to take to the range and back. I can store the scope in its bag and in my backpack. It adds a little weight but barely noticeable.

As a first time scope user, I’m glad I went this route because it met all my needs without being a significant purchase. If there are versions on Amazon Warehouse., its definitely worth the purchase.

I knew this would be small but when it arrived it was tiny. Image quality isn’t going to match a Swarovski of course, but it’s clear and bright, and it’s perfect for travel to places you don’t want to take your expensive, heavy scope.

I don’t trust optics in checked baggage, even inexpensive ones, the thieves don’t know that until it’s too late. This scope is so small it fits in a lens pouch and into my hand luggage, no problem.

The included desktop tripod is no good for the field so I bought a 10, 127cm Amazon Basics tripod which weighs in at 550g. Scope and tripod under 1kg for 75, seems too good to be true! It blows over if you sneeze but it’s a great match and for travel it’s perfect.

I was torn between this and a similarly priced compact telescope that presented itself as a way to do astronomy. I went with this due to being reviewed as good for star gazing, but also (from how it presented itself) being for daylight viewing of wildlife, etc. I’ve been very happy with it. Fun to have it along and it’s easy to take along. Tripod is good, sturdy, etc.

FYI: I’m looking at small, portable camp tables to go with it, as it has to rest on something (the tripod’s legs are about 10-12″ or so). I’ll use the table for a lot of other things, so I don’t mind buying that additional item to make this more useful. That’s something to keep in mind though as far as what it takes to make this useful.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI wasn’t sure if I should spend more money on a better scope, but seeing as I already own two better telescopes, I was only looking for something quick and portable to bring with me when travelling or camping. I’m actually very impressed with this scope. At 12x it’s sharp and bright, at 24x it’s still quite usable, and even at 36x the image looks fine in daylight albeit considerably darker (maybe not suitable for use at dusk and dawn). The eye relief is decent, so you can use it with glasses on or off. Unfortunately, the longer eye relieve makes it harder (not impossible) to put a digital camera or cellphone up to the eye piece. To get the full field of view, the camera needs to be 8 – 12 mm from the eye piece. The scope is pretty lightweight and portable, looks great, and actually has a number of nice features including a rotating body and recessed lens (built in lens shade). I wasn’t expecting much from the included tripod, but it’s really not bad (although a better camera tripod is recommended). The legs are metal, the mechanism is just smooth enough where it’s not a chore to use, and everything feels pretty stable. Now for the negatives. It’s an entry level scope using regular coated optics, a BK7 prism, and has a pretty narrow field of view. There’s some chromatic aberrations visible and 36x is asking a lot from the small optics. Bottom line, better scopes cost much more money. For that, you’d get fully multi coated optics, BAK4 prism, more durable body construction (aluminium, carbon fiber, nitrogen purged, etc…), larger front lens for more light gathering, wider field of view, higher magnification, less chromatic aberrations. Truth be told, for the occasional use I wanted this for, I couldn’t justify paying more and I’m actually very impressed by how good and usable it is. If you’re going to use a spotting scope a lot and have some extra money, by all means, invest in something better. If you’re looking for a good small scope that won’t break the bank, this is a truly great value option.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI compared this Celestron 12-36 X 60 spotting scope to a 20-60 X 80 Lando and a 20-60 X 80 Gosky . The much lower priced, more portable Celestron delivered reasonably good sharp images which only degraded slightly at higher powers as did the Lando. However, the apparent image size of the Lando 20-60 X 80 and the Gosky at its lowest magnification at 20X actually seemed larger than the Celestron at 36X Mag and of course much clearer and brighter at its starting magnification of 20X. Also, the Tripod with the Celestron was terrible, almost worthless. You would have to aim way above what you are looking at and set the control knowing the scope would fall dramatically more before hopefully coming close to the image you want to view. This Celestron scope absolutely needs a better tripod as the table top tripod that comes with it is barely usable – especially when trying to adjust at a higher powers. Also, the 20-60 X 80 Lando allows you to focus about 10 feet or so closer at near objects at 20 Ft and its tripod works well and locks in place well and does not keep vibrating at the slightest touch up and down like the fidgety tripod with the Gosky. The Celestron is about 11″ long compared to the Lando and Gosky 20-60 X 80 at 17″.
The Lando seemed to also offer noticeably clearer optics than the Gosky 20-60 X 80 and has the best tripod of the three.

For the difference in price of about $50 more (remember the others need a new tripod), if the larger size is not a problem, I think the Lando 20-60 X 80 is a clear winner. So, for budget scopes, I strongly recommend that you spend the little bit of extra money and buy and Lando. Its hard to imagine a more expensive scope doing all that much better than the Lando. In all fairness to the Gosky, I may have gotten a defective scope which is being send back as the magnification collar spun all around as if not connected properly. The Gosky did not focus near as clear as the chisel sharp Lando.

Wow. This scope is good enough to see Jupiter and 4 moons (barely can see the rings, but hey!) and easily could see about a mile or 2 away from my home to a nearby mountain peak, clear as day on max magnification (36x) I always wondered what made up part of the silhouette of the mountain, thought it was rock formations but turned out to be some dead lookin trees! for around 50 bucks I think i made the best purchase possible. i’ll be taking this scope to the range soon to see how well it works as a spotting scope for sighting in my rifle at 100 yards. i will update this review after that.

The price is right. Good little scope. I use it for terrestrial use (birds, squirrels, etc) and the views are mostly good. The focus does get a bit soft after 25x zoom, but that’s to be expected at this price. The tripod is actually quite sturdy (and metal)…not a cheap plastic thing.

If I want to mention any negatives, it would be: the screw to hold the rotation seems likes it wants to break into the scope. And the focus “knob” is on the body…not the eye piece (maybe I’m too used to telescopes, where the focus is near the eyepiece).

    Great for its price range

Golden Review Award: 28 From Our UsersI bought this spotting scope because it is small and lightweight and fits in my day-pack for hiking and birding trips. I have a 20-60x 80 Opticron scope that cost 10 times as much, but with the added weight of a tripod I rarely use it. Overall, I was very impressed with the Celestron 12-36x x 60 scope. In the field it definitely helps to see detail that I cannot make out with my binoculars. I carried out a side-by-side comparison against the Opticron for reading newspaper print 50 feet away. The Opticron has better image quality as one would hope for the price tag, but the Celestron was quite impressive. A number of limitations have been pointed out by other reviewers. The focus ring is a little stiff to turn – the main problem is that, even on a fairly sturdy tripod, there is slight movement of the scope while turning focus. At the highest magnification, one has to turn the ring incrementally and check the focus a each point. This adds a few seconds to the focusing procedure which may or may not be critical for wildlife watching. The eye-relief is fine for me but may be a problem for spectacle users. The close focusing distance is a bit longer than other scopes, but in practice one would likely switch to binoculars at this point. The supplied tripod is not much use for the telescope since it requires a table of the right height. However , when mounted with a camera, the tripod is useful for table-top photography.
In another comparison with the Opticron, I tried taking pictures of the moon with a hand-held digital camera resting against the eyepiece. I noted that while the Opticron gave a 3x larger image on going from 20x to 60x setting, the Celestron gave only a about a 2.1 fold magnification on going from the 12x to 36x setting. Comparison with the Opticron image size, suggested the 12x setting was accurate but the 36x as closer to 26x magnification (photos attached: do not judge image quality since exposure was difficult to control on my camera and it is hand held, but the relative diameters are meaningful). I checked with the Celestron Technical Department about this apparent discrepancy and they assured me the zoom settings were accurate, but they said they do not reveal their calibration procedure as a matter of policy. So I will leave it to the reader to interpret my findings. For my purposes the magnification range is fine as anything over 30x is often limited by atmospheric conditions. A 26x scope in my daypack is infinitely more useful than a 60x scope left at home.

A excellent spotting scope if you are looking for portability

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersSo I recently was strong armed back into the world of shooting by my friend, to start competing in .22 bullseye pistol competitions. The first thing I noticed was my field glasses were useless at 50 yards to see .22 holes in the target. I started to compare everything under $600. I then realized at this point of my life 50 yards is my limit in shooting, so a full sized spotting scope was silly. I made a new friend at a match who had this scope and he let me try it out. I ordered it 2 minutes later. Is this a Leopold Mark Series spotter, nope, but for the money I can see very clear. It is now a constant companion to every range session. The zoom and focus are very smooth, and I am glad I bought the angled version.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThere are a great number of expensive, crappy telescopes out there; lots of them emblazoned with the well known names of organizations that should know better. Best advice I ever got was to skip flimsy and low end telescopes for a kid starter in favor of a good entry level spotting scope. Well, this product fits the bill perfectly.

The little stand is remarkably stable. The scope reflects expected Celestron quality. Magnification and field of view are just fine for a newbie.

If you have a youngster who has expressed interest in the sky, the moon, or the deer in the field over there, (or if you need a lightweight and handy go-to scope for the car), this is a solid, functional, well priced choice.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersCelestron Landscout 12-36x60mm is a great entry-level spotting scope. The reason I bought this product is mainly as a back-up scope for lunar/stargazing. I’m not expecting a lot on this product based on the reviews since most of them indicate a fair/okay performance. And yes, it not fail me.

Object brightness is great at low power, but decreases as you go high, however if there’s one great thing I like about this product is the optical clarity. I tested it on a cloudy night on the moon, and was pretty impressed by the detail of the moon at 24-36x magnification.

For more usability, procure a separate tripod and don’t bother with the tabletop tripod(even though it’s mediocre at best) included on the package.

Price of the product is practically a giveaway, so that’s a plus. The body of the scope is well-made, though the rubber covering is just enough, as well as the lens caps. The handy bag was a plus too, I was surprised that it was well-made, though not “protective” enough for accidental drops.

Overall, a good starter spotting scope.

Overall great value for what you get and the quality of the scope. It comes with a carrying case, tripod, and protective rubber caps for each end of the scope. The scope is fully coated to increase light transmission for bright, sharp images. It has decent clarity, nothing amazing but keep in mind this was less than $60.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis four star rating I gave is rather ambiguous. I have some high powered spotting scopes and they are great. I bought this one for a special purpose, which is, taking to the pistol range where the competition is at 25 and 50 yards. It does an excellent job for that purpose. I certainly would not rate it for use at 200 or further bullet hole spotting. It would probably be adequate for 100 yard use in bright sunlight. The power collar was very stiff when first using the scope but it is loosening up. The focus ring works very well. It is small and lightweight and fits in with my other equipment well. Overall I am very happy with the selection of this scope for use at the pistol range.

Great budget spotting scope with limitations

I’m mainly using this scope for target practice with a large-caliber rifle (.577) at ranges of 50 and 100 yards.

    Pros:
Small size, light weight, well-made, handy carrying case, great optics for the low price. Also does not fog in a variety of weather conditions, which is a nice feature, especially at this price point. The eye relief is more than adequate, even with safety glasses on.

    Cons:
At maximum zoom, this scope cannot seem to focus. This is quickly remedied by dialing back the zoom a bit, but it is still annoying. At ranges of 100 yards or more, the low zoom on this model makes spotting even larger holes from a rifle difficult at times.

    Overall:
Very satisfied with my purchase. As long as you don’t go into it expecting the performance of a top-of-the-line spotting scope then you will not be disappointed.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI had been looking for a reasonably priced spotting scope for some time and this certainly fits the bill. I comes complete with lens caps and tripod stand in a nice zip case with carrying strap. The 12 to 36 magnification is adequate for the ranges at which we shoot and the large focusing ring is easy to use yet firm enough that it does not move accidentally. The tripod mount thread is similar to camera tripods so you could always add a lower or higher tripod to suit your needs. For indoor 25 metre shooting the unit sits neatly on the firing bench. The scope is held in the tripod mount by a ring mount which is adjustable so you can have the eye piece facing in any direction you favour. An excellent product at the price.

Nice little scope for the money. It’s good for my old eyes out to 100 yards, but I don’t think it would be powerful enough to be very useful at greater distances. That’s okay for me because that’s about as far as I shoot. The tripod is okay and packs into the case with the scope, which is its best feature, but it doesn’t adjust for height.

Pros: Very light and compact; clarity and brightness are good; easy to set up
Cons: The light weight makes the scope susceptible to wind and other vibrations — a heavier, sturdier tripod would help with this; eye relief could be better, though I don’t feel it’s a deal breaker.

For me, the greatest value of this scope is its portability. If you’re lugging a lot of gear it might save you an additional trip between the car and your shooting station. I’m happy with the purchase.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAn excellent scope, but not for viewers with glasses for astigmatism. This is a nice scope, easy to use and the provided tripod is quite sufficient for the magnification. At full magnification, looking 300 yards into my back yard, the image had uniform flat focus and no discernible chromatic aberration (what all the cheap scopes have). However, if you wear glasses for astigmatism, and you must use your glasses with telescopes and binoculars (I do), this is NOT for you. There is very little eye relief, so if you wear glasses, your field of view is about 1/3 that of without glasses. This makes it useless to me. I was very sad to return it. If you are just near or farsighted (spherical correction only), then you can still use this without your glasses. Highly recommend at the $50 price I paid.

Golden Review Award: 35 From Our UsersWould be a 5 star review considering the optics quality. On that note, the quality of optics for the price are absolutely fantastic. Sure you could spend hundreds or even thousands more on a spotting scope if you really needed top notch clarity in the field for spotting animals at long distances, photo imaging at long distances and so on. “Not why I purchased this scope and shouldn’t be why you would purchase this scope”! Purely a range scope for spotting target holes out to 300 yards so why spend hundreds if not thousands on an “extreme” quality scope? Very clear optics and does the job just fine. The scope is light and small enough that if you wanted to carry it in the field it would be easy enough and I would not hesitate. The build quality is and seems to be very good. The small table top tripod is very sturdy and well built although I use a standard tripod most of the time. I would not hesitate to take this on a trip to Yellowstone or any other national park as a spotter out to under 500 yards and I will surely consider taking it on my next scouting trip. For the price it’s truly a great value, does it’s job well and it gives you the peace of mind that if you break it or lose it, it’s not the end of the world. That said I see no reason for this scope to break as the quality of the build is solid and baring any strange accident I see it lasting a life time given proper care. Clear enough to see 5.56 holes out to 300 yards. The perfect little range scope that easily packs in a range bag.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersYou’re reading a review of a fifty dollar spotting scope… This thing isn’t going to let you see a flea on a hawks back at a 1000 yards, but it is totally usable for spotting your hits on target at 100-150 yards. Honestly I am really happy with this thing. I don’t value spending mega bucks on something I rarely use, and primarily use this just to zero my rifles and punch paper at 100ish yards. The tripod is junk, but it WORKS. The case is also junk, but guess what, it also works! It’s very small and compact, so it doesn’t take up extra room in my bag or among my shooting supplies. I read a ton of el-cheapo spotting scope reviews and this seemed to be the most reasonable bang for my buck (really only willing to spend 50 or 60 of them).

I’m not an expert when it come to optics. I can say that the reviews in this seem to be correct . I’ve only used it at 25 yards so far. It is a nice clear picture and magnified the little 22 caliber holes like I was holding the Target up to my face. Like other reviewers wrote , I’m sure this scope will do well with farther distances . This was a nice affordable way of getting rid of the cheapy binoculars I was using. I couldn’t believe the prices on some of the high end models. Really now? If your looking to see little holes in paper this will do it clearly for you. In my opinion ,It will also do well as a nature watching scope. It may not do well if your trying to see the American flag on the moon. The only minor issue I found was that twist handle that locks the scope into position, has to be snugged down good or the scope will move out of position. The scope itself seems to be good quality. The tri pod does its job but doesn’t seem to match the quality if the scope that it holds. Bottom line is that it appears to be a good scope at a great price. It also came with a handy carry bag that has a little devider to keep the tri pod and scope from rubbing together. This was the un expected icing on the cake for me. Yup! Ya can’t beat that with a stick. The surprise bag kept me from taking off a star for the minor tri pod issue. I say buy it !

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI tried a few other low cost scopes and this was my favorite. I made some photographs of birds holding the phone’s lens up to the eyepiece and it seemed fairly sharp with some lens aberrations. Maybe I’ll try the adapter.
It’s almost needless to mention but as light drops off, so does image, but not until the high end 20s. As light drops, so does information. But the aperture is fine.
I don’t think the tripod collar around the tube and tripod screw mount comes off, but it’s useful, so I guess it doesn’t make that much difference. I just thought it would be nice to remove it.
I recommend a tripod but it can be hand held at lower power.
I took a star off because they are new, but the scope seems good enough so that it may earn the extra star.
A side note. I have an older pair of 7×50 Celestron Ultima binoculars and they are very nice optically (very good light catchers), but whatever the sticky foam finish, around the barrel is, it broke down over time and is annoying.
Amazon ratings and reviews, were helpful. Big thanks!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI’ve got to spend a few days now with my new spotting scope. This is a
really nice entry level scope that I purchased for mainly for nature
viewing. The scope if easy to use and I prefer the 45deg angles eyepiece to the
straight ones. The tripod is good if you are on a sitting or have it on a
table… but having a full tripod helps in some situations. The image is clear
and it has a good field of view, even at full zoom. I opted for the 50mm size
choosing lower size/weight over aperture. Images are still bright enough but
haven’t stressed it in lower light conditions, but again, portability was more
    important to me.

Golden Review Award: 29 From Our UsersI have been looking for a quality affordable spotting scope and came across this one recently. This is a great scope for the price. It’s small, lightweight and durable and comes with a nice bag that fits both the scope and tripod. I set it up on the tripod on my kitchen table and watched a gator (up close and personal) in our backyard pond at ranges up to 300 yards . I also took it to the wetlands and used it to watch the birds and alligators from a viewing platform, so I was comfortable hauling this into the field. Also, the tripod is fine if you are sitting or lying down, but it’s not very tall, so I’m considering getting a better tripod. This is a great scope for the price. My friend wants to try it out at the shooting range.
