Tamped 15m x 1m of tarmac down with this, it certainly does the job (though I found a lump hammer more effective for the edges). Hard on elbows and hands though!
I chose mostly on price as most of these things seemed to be almost identical, I particularly like Draper so I let that stand above other brands. It was a good choice as it has done the jhob nicely, a good weitght nicely balanced and thus easy to use. Definitely the best value choice.
I bought this to tamp down earth and stones when building footings for a large summer house. I have found it to be very useful and it does as advertised.
Good quality product, used it lots for packing down clay, 20mm shingle and sharp sand etc, does what I need it to and have lent it to others with no issues, gives your shoulders and biceps a workout too!
It’s a little shorter than expected at approximately 3.5 feet, but I’m only short so not too much of an issue. If you are over 5′ 10″ tall this product will probably be too short to use.
It is very well built, sturdy with plenty of weight in the head. I have not used it yet but can’t envisage any problems with it as the handle is very securely attached to the head.
The handle is provided with a comfortable rubber grip which could do with being a little longer to get a good grip with both hands.
All in all very pleased.
Not yet used in anger. It arrived in time, packaging OK. It is a solid design with metal handle welded to head. All as described. It is a medium weight compacter which suits me just fine.
perfect for some minor road repairs, light enough to use, but heavy enough for the job. I used some cold lay macadam, layered and on the top layer I added some quick setting cement mix, which dried fast and hard, very pleased with the results!!
Proved to be an excellent tool for tamping down the tarmac used in repairs to my drive. The weight of a vehicle wheel left no impression in the repair showing that the tamper is an effective tool. The price was very reasonable for the amount of metal involved in it’s construction.
Purchased this to do some repairs to my driveway and this simple tool has made it so easy! Actually saw a council worker using exactly the self-same item doing repairs round a drain in the street locally!
