Great little device which is easy to fit onto my bikes fairing. Very clean and easy to use. Not proved the 9 hours recording yet however !
Battery is a lot better on the xl so far ive had no issies with its performance
Firstly the camera kept freezing setting the modes and setting the ghosts XL up so I had to reset via the reset pin hole many times.
Secondly the camera has an additional lock function that is not mentioned anywhere and sometimes activates when pressing the wifi button.
I do not trust 3M sticker mounts and drilled some with cable ties but resorted to an old broken bike camera bolt mount, cable ties and thread lock. Only time will tell how that stands up to time and holds out.
The camera would freeze saying SD card full!
It would seem in order to record over you have to set to one mode at a time hence video loop 5 minutes or what ever it is called.
The drift application is great for linking to phone for footage and accessing settings and stuff.
If you can get past these issues I would generally recommend this camera over the cheaper generic ones that always end up breaking. I hope to get many years out of this camera.
Amazon were also very helpful starting a return but I think I will keep the camera despite these issues as it seems to work for the most part and what I intend to use it for.
I hope you find the product review and images useful
Very good quality and the footage is really clear. Not had to recharge yet so battery life is more than good
A fantastic camera that I have mounted on my motorcycle helmet. The quality of videos is excellent along with the internal microphone that is screwed into the camera. The battery life is far better than the Ghost X plus it’s waterproof which the Ghost X isn’t.
he screen is too small to see clearly but if it could be clearer then the only problem is sorted
This is the second one I’ve bought, the other one got lost. It’s got pretty terrible video quality even at the highest setting but for the money it’s worth it. Also when I opened the box this time it looked like someone sprayed some stuff in it or something and it reeked of cancer chems.
This helmet cam came with two mounts, which i stuck one on my motorcycle helmet and the other on my bike/scooter helmet, so i can clip the cam on either helmet. Pretty happy with img and vid quality but got no goPro or others to compare with. Seems to pickup wind noise more than i like but i’m still tweaking the cam angle.. very user-friendly operation and looks awesome mounted on helmets!
I already own an XL and admit the battery life is awesome..so I’ve gone a treat myself to another….one for each bike.great clear footage. And never had an issue.so I’m one happy customer.thank you.
Motorcycle and cycle crash helmets – ok but video quality not what I would expect from 1080p. I know there is a 4k version, but that’s too short on battery life
The camera works great. Only the application is completely unusable. The speed of the transfer is about 5 minutes for a 2-minute movie. Middle Ages
The phone app is simple to use, though it could use some tweaking, being able to lock in the which camera variant instead of having to choose each time the app is opened and blue tooth instead of wifi – which doesn’t stay connected. That’s the biggest drawback and maybe there is some trick I haven’t figured out yet. But being able to access all the menus for the camera and settings using the phone is much more convenient that trying to use the 1/4 of a postage stamp size screen.
The camera itself is solid and well built. The adhesive holding the base to the helmet is very strong (I still rigged up a tether because I’d rather not lose the camera should the adhesive fail). I shot about 90 minutes of video and the battery indicator only went down one bar. I am hopeful that the 8 hour battery life is true. I set the video to the highest capture settings and even then I only used just over 9 GB of a 32GB card. I imagine a 128GB card would capture an entire days worth of riding without using the overwrite/loop recording feature.
The video itself turned out very well, clear and sharp, the color is good and the field of view (which is adjustable in the settings) is excellent for capturing the rider’s POV.
Some of the reviewers complained of low video quality or blurred images – perhaps they didn’t remove the clear plastic film that covers the lens prior to use. So far I am very happy with the Ghost XL and I look forward to testing it further during some longer rides.
What’s not so good is the audio it is surprisingly horrible. Recording volume is extremely low even at level 5. And there is an enormous amount of noise. It gets better with the use of an external mic provided you get a good one to match. Plugging in certain mics won’t work. The jack isn’t long enough sometimes you will need to use the adapter. It is a little limiting but if you pick this up for motovlogging you’ll be fine.
Battery life is great. Not quite 9hrs tho. The most I got was almost 8hrs with the sound and LED off. I have gotten 7 1/2hrs consistently. The recording light and the display light are together. So if you want to turn off the recording light you lose the backlight for the display and it becomes hard to see. Its already small and with no light becomes impossible to see unless you have a light on it.
This camera is a couple years old now but I couldn’t pass it up as the white one was on sale. $119. I see the price went back up. The snow edition the white looks great.
There is zero image stabilization. At least it’s waterproof. Love the rotatable lens its the one unique thing that most other cameras do not have. The size isn’t too bad. It’s no bigger than a Sony X3000. It’s too bad the audio is virtually non existent with a lot of noise.
UPDATE: This gets a bump up now that the audio works. So what happened? The audio was really low with a lot of noise as you increased the sensitivity. I was bummed but decided to play around with it.
I put this on instant record and I also plugged in a 3.5mm audio jack with a slim head. W/O a slim head it won’t go in all the way. Don’t know which did it or maybe both but now the audio works
Only two bad points… I use tag mode a lot, and the camera can only be mounted on the right side of your helmet, you need to press a button to tag the video (save 30seconds (can be changed) either side of the button press). Being on the right side of my helmet means I have to take my hand off the throttle. No good in traffic. To fix this, you’d need a mount on the other side of the camera too. As it stands. I use it upside down then just flip the video during editing.
A mic should be supplied for the price. I got a 1.20 mic and it’s pretty pants.
